Addressing this issue, therefore, this study was aimed at examining the role of video-recorded speaking task in improving students’ oral productive skill measured through a speaking test and understand students’ response on the use of the task through a questionnaire. It was a quasi-experimental study, the sample of which was 87 tenth grade students of one senior high selected through a purposive sampling technique and randomly assigned into experimental and controlled classes. The test served as a pretest administered at the beginning and as a posttest distributed at the end of the treatment, which data were analyzed using t-test. The effectiveness of the treatment was analyzed from the posttest and gained scores, which findings revealed higher achievements of the experimental group. In addition, students were happy to do this task. These findings mean that video-recorded speaking task play roles in enhancing students’ oral productive skill and support previous studies on the effectiveness of video-recorded speaking tasks. How to Cite: Azkiyah, S. Based on the previous explanation, the researcher formulates the objective of the research is to find out whether or not the speaking ability of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Parepare can enhance through the Use of PPP Model In this research, the researcher applied quasi-experimental design, with two group namely experimental class and control class. The samples was chosen using cluster random sampling technique. The total numbers of sample were consisted of 55 students from two classes taken from the population of the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Parepare. The instrument used in this research was speaking test by record the students’ utterance. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of the data analyzed shows that the students’ speaking ability improved significantly. It was showed by the mean score of pre-test was 45.33 and the post-test was 72. 83. Besides, the mean score of the students in post-test (72.83) was higher than the Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (71) in SMP Negeri 9 Parepare and include good classification base on Dirjen Pendidikan Dasar dan Menegah (2005). In the same line, the result of t-test value was 2.102 and t-table value was 2.004 in post-test. It means that the t-test value (2.102) was higher than t-table value (2.004). Those indicate that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected. It also shows there is a significant difference between the speaking ability of the students who were taught through the Use of PPP Model and the speaking ability of the students who were thought by Discovery Learning Model (Conventional Ways).

The result of the data showed that there was a significant difference between pre-test and post-test. The value of t-test (6.35) was greater than the t-table (1.729) at the level of significant (p) = 0.05 and degree of freedom (df) = 19. It can be said that the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Which means that there was a significant difference between the students’ speaking ability before and after using debate or it can be said that the use of debate was effective in improving the students’ speaking skill at the Eleventh Grade of SMA Perguruan Tinggi Islam Makassar? Keywords: Debate Technique, Speaking Ability
