The objectives of this research were: (1) to find out whether or not the use of parallel-team teaching improves the students’ speaking skill and (2) to find out whether or not the students are interested in joining the speaking class through parallel-team teaching. This research employed a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 40 students of second-semester students of English Education Program of Makassar State University, in academic year 2016/2017. The research data were collected by using two kinds of instruments: the speaking test for the students’ speaking skill and questionnaire for students’ interest.  Data on the students’ speaking skill were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and data on the students’ interest were analyzed using the Likert scale. The results of the research were: (1) the use of parallel-team teaching in teaching speaking improved the students speaking skill, (2) the use of parallel-team teaching increased the students’ interest in joining the speaking class.  It can be concluded that the use of Parallel-Team Teaching is effective to be implemented in improving the students’ speaking skill in terms of accuracy, fluency, comprehensibility and content and the students have very high interest toward Parallel-Team Teaching in teaching speaking

The objectives of this research were: (1) to find out whether or not the use of Learn to Speak English software improves the students’ speaking skill and (2) to find out whether or not the students are interested in joining the speaking class through Learn to Speak English software. This research employed Quasi Experimental design. The sample consisted of 68 students of third semester of English and Literature Department Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, in academic year 2013/2014. The data were collected through two kinds of instruments: speaking test for the students’ speaking skill and questionnaire for students’ interest. Data on the students’ speaking skill were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics and data on the students’ interest were analyzed using Likert scale. The results of the research were: (1) the use of Learn to Speak English software in teaching speaking improved the students speaking skill; (2) the use of Learn to Speak English software increased the students’ interest in joining the speaking class. It can be concluded that the use of Learn to Speak English software is effective to be implemented in improving the students’ speaking skills in terms of fluency and lexical resource and the students have high interest and active toward teaching speaking through Learn to Speak English software.

The Application of Learning Community Strategy to Improve Speaking Skill for Fourth Semester of English Department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare,Supervised by Bahrun Amin and Ammang Latifa. This research is aimed at finding out: Whether The Application of Learning Community Strategy to Improve Speaking Skill for Fourth Semester of English Education at Universitas Muhammadiyah Parepare. This research used quasi experimental method. The populations were the fourth Semester in English Department in academic year of 2014-2015, consisted of 175 students with fours classes. The samples that were drawn by using random sampling technique consisted of 40 students, which are Class A as experimental group and Class B as Control group.The data were acquired by using speaking test. The speaking test will be applied in the pretest and posttest.The result of this research concluded that there was a significant difference the students who were taught speaking Learning Community Strategy. It is proved by statistic analysis of t-test (5.83)  was higher than the t-table (1.734)

This research aims at finding out whether Prezi is effective to teach speaking and the students having high creativity have better speaking skill than those having low creativity. This research was carried out at IAIN Salatiga in the academic year of 2015/2016. The population was the second semester students of English Education Department. In this research, the researcher used experimental research method. The researcher took one class for experimental class (TBI D). This class was divided into two groups (the students having high and low creativity). The research instruments consist of students’ creativity test and a speaking test. The creativity test and speaking test were readable after they were tried out in class TBI D of English Education Department of IAIN Salatiga. The data were the result of speaking test and it was analyzed by multifactor analysis of variance 2 x 2 (ANOVA). The findings of the research show that: (1) Prezi is effective for teaching speaking; (2) The students who have high creativity have better speaking skill than those having low creativity. Based on the research findings, it can be concluded that: Prezi is an effective teaching media to teach speaking and it is suggested to the English Teacher to apply Prezi in teaching speaking. Prezi is suitable for both students who have high and low creativity because it is designed in a variety of formats that helps students to process information and organize their ideas.Key words: Prezi, Teaching Speaking, Creative Students

This quasi-experimental research was aimed to find out the effect of STAD technique toward students’ speaking skill and class participation at grade XI of SMAN 5 Kota Bengkulu in academic year of 2011/2012. The population of this research was the students at grade XI of SMAN 5 Kota Bengkulu in academic year of 2010/2011 that consisted of 168 students. The sample of this research was IPA 4 which comprised 27 students and IPA 5 which comprised 27 students and the two classes were cluster randomly selected as a research sample. The data were collected through speaking test and observation sheet of class participation. The data were then analyzed by using t-test and analysis of variances.  The findings of this research showed that (1) the students who were taught by using STAD technique gave significant effect toward their speaking skill achievement. (2) The students who were taught by using STAD technique gave significant effect toward their class participation. (3) The students who were taught by using STAD technique gave significant effect toward students’ speaking skill and class participation. Thus, it can be concluded that STAD technique gave significant effect toward students’ speaking skill and class participation at grade XI of SMAN 5 Kota Bengkulu in academic year of 2011/2012.

<p>In English Education Program Speaking Class starts at Semester I until Semester V. It starts from imitative, intensive, responsive, interactive and extensive speaking. In semester IV the students are expected to be able to communicate in local, national, or even inter- national settings about economic, social, environmental and politic issues.</p><p>However, speaking skill is not easily obtained. There are some factors that make speaking class is not maximal. It might be caused by class setting, teaching method, teaching materials, students’ knowledge or even students’ interest. Further, getting speaking skills for all students in the classroom is not easy as they often face uneven participation, little talking time as certain students dominate the class. So, it is the lecturer’s role to set the speaking activity that can facilitate both the active speakers and silence speakers. The silence speakers need to practice speaking in low-pressure situation such as in small group before practicing in high-pressure situation like presentation in class.</p><p>This research aims to describe the way to apply CTL model to activate students’ participation in Speaking Class. Through CTL the lecturer relates the learning materials and students activities that are relevant to their needs in their real life. The reseacher choses issues on economy, social, and environment for the topic of the discussion and she used prolem-solving approach.</p><p>The population of the research is the fourth semester of English Education Program in the academic year 2013/2014. The total number of population is 210 students which consists of 6 classes. The researcher took 65 students (30%) from class A and B as the sample. The instrument used in the research were classroom observation and questionaire . The data were analyzed through descriptive analysis.</p><p>Based on the finding and the discussion, the conclusion can be drawn that CTL model is able to activate students’ participation in Speaking Class of the fourth Semester of English Education Program in academic year of 2013/2014.</p>

The obejectives of this research are to know the improvement  of the students’ achievement in poetry mastery and their perception regarding to the semiotic method in teaching and learning poetry in  English Education Department, Languages and Art Faculty of State University of Medan. The research method used is the Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of the research are the fifth semester of 37 students of 2013/2014 academic year. The data are collected by test in order to know the students’ achievment in poetry mastery. The students’ perception toward the implementation of the semiotic method for teaching and learning poetry is collected by questionaire. The data are analyzed by descriptive analysis. The result of research shows that (1) the average score of the students’ achievement of poetry mastery is (71.75) or it increases (11,59) point from pre-test (60.16) and (2) in general, the students’ perception toward the semiotic method for teaching and learning poetry are good and positive.

This study aims to determine the students’ speaking skill before and after applying Guessing Game and find out the effect of Guessing Game on the students’ speaking skill at the first semester of English education study program of STAIN Bengkalis. This research is experimental research that involved 18 students at the first semester of English Education Study Program of STAIN Bengkalis. Speaking test was implemented in order to collect the students’ speaking performance, and the collected data were quantitatively analyzed. Guessing Game has a less significant effect in improving the students’ speaking skill at the first semester of English education study program of STAIN Bengkalis. This is evidenced by the results of t-o (1,3) smaller than t-table.

The aim of this research is to figure out the correlation between chatting online and students’ speaking achievement. The method of this research was correlation method. The researchers used this research because they wanted to find out the degree of relationship students chatting online and their speaking skill achievement in English Education Department of IKIP Siliwangi in the academic year 2015. The data were gathered from the questionnaires and speaking tests, then were analyzed by Spearman Rank in SPSS V.23. The result showed that the score of Spearman Rank test is 0.299. It was defined that there is low correlation between two variables. In other words, there was no significance correlation between students chatting online and their speaking achievement.

This research is basically aimed to test the Student to the self-feedback method in improving their speaking ability. Furthermore, it is aimed to see the effectiveness of colleagues in helping other friends to learn. The method used in this research is the Quantitative method with the quasi-experimental setting in its test. The step of this research includes the field observation, pre-test, giving treatment by applying student to the self-feedback method, then post-test. One by one the student talks then another friend judge what the strengths and the weaknesses of his friend. The instruments used in this research are speaking test and questionnaire. The written assessment contained in the assessment aspect includes fluency, accuracy, and comprehensibility. The population in this research is all English education students of FKIP UIM. While the sample used is the second-semester students. The researchers divided the class into 2 groups. One group as the experimental class and the other as the control class.The results of the data analysis show that the probability is less than 0.05 or 0.000 <0.05. This means that H1 is acceptable and, of course, the statistical hypothesis H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Student to self-feedback method improves their speaking ability.

This study aimed at investigating the effect of strategies-based instruction on students’ speaking skill at Lakidende University and the students’ interest in learning English through strategies-based instruction. This research employed Quasi Experimental Method, with non-equivalent control group design. This research assigned experimental group and control group (30 students for each).Speaking test was used to see the effect of strategies-based instruction on students’ speaking skill and questionnaire was used to see students’ interest in learning English through strategies-based instruction. The data obtained through the speaking test were analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Meanwhile, the data from questionnaire were analyzed in percentage and descriptive statistics. The students’ speaking skill covered three components: accuracy, fluency, and comprehensibility. The findings showed that there was an improvement on the students’ speaking ability after the treatment. There was a significant difference between the results of post-test of experimental and control group, where the mean score of post-test of experimental group was 70.37, which was higher than the mean score of post-test of control group was 59.63.The value of P-value or sig. (2-tailed) shows that P-value or sig. (2-tailed) is smaller than α (0.00 < 0.05).Furthermore, the data that were collected from questionnaire showed that the students were very high interest toward strategies-based instruction. It is showed by the mean score in scale of 89.6, which was categorized as very high interest. Keywords: effect, strategy-based instruction, speaking skill
