The subject matter discussed in this paper is how hotel front desk receptionists handle requests and refusals in their interactions with customers when they use English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The method of this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach, examining the interactions of front desk employees who work at Hotel Surya Duri, Indonesia. The sample is seven people who are given a discourse completion test which questions them on how they deal five different scenarios dealing with requests and refusals. Results showed that employees perform independent research largely on how to deal with customer requests, but overall do not adequately master how to engage with foreign customer requests and refusals in EFL. This study suggests that concerned parties may benefit training current employees in foreign language communication training.

The purpose of this research was to describe and analyze the planning, implementation, and evaluation of responsible character education based on school culture. A qualitative approach is taken in this investigation. An SMP Muhammadiyah Plus Salatiga sample was used in the analysis. In order to gather accurate information about the subject matter, the authors employ qualitative research methods, such as interviews and documentation. There are two ways to implement educational character education in the classroom: first, incorporate it into the school's curricula and rules, then spread the word to the students and staff. Character education for responsibility is carried out by incorporating the character of responsibility into self-development programs, subjects, and school culture. 2. This includes classroom and school-wide activities in which character values are taught and practiced. Students' attitudes are assessed as a means of evaluating responsibility character education.

Colour studies have generated much confusion in art and design education, particularly among students of the discipline in Nigeria. This is due to the complexity of the subject matter itself, wide-range of available materials and a variety of concepts developed in its multi-disciplinarity that is not kept distinct. Therefore, this paper utilizes a qualitative approach that employs the critical, historical, and analytic examination to provide clarification on the constructive and expressive aspects of colour studies. The paper introduces the reader to the pivotal role of colour and its multi-disciplinary interest. Also, it adequately clarifies paradigms and theories in the physical, psychophysical and psychological domains with particular emphasis on areas of practical value to art and design. Moreover, it considers the numeric adaptation of the colour wheel to a set of numbers for harmonic relationship. And it ends with the need for artists and designers to comprehensively grasp the contextual behaviour of colour and develop colour originality through creative construction and effective use in order to successfully express themselves in colour.

Every one who has used Dr. Meusel's excellent edition of Caesar's Bellum Ciuile will welcome the first volume, comprising Commentaries I.–IV., of his final edition of the Bellum Gallicum. Nominally, each of the two books is a revision of the work of other men,–in the former case of Kraner and Hofmann, in the latter of Kraner and Dittenberger; really each, especially the latter, contains the fruit of so much independent research that the personalities of the older editors are obscured. That part of the joint work of Kraner and Dittenberger which corresponds with the revision consisted of 199 pages ; the revision extends to 464. As Meusel remarks in the Preface, it is no longer intended for the use of schools, but of teachers and classical scholars. The historical introduction and the section on the Roman army, which retain much of Kraner's work, have been carefully retouched; many of the footnotes have been corrected or rewritten; many, both on linguistic points and on the subject-matter, have been added.

<p>"Coloured Views" is a comparative and multidisciplinary examination of the motives and methods of New Zealand's urban boosters between 1880 and 1930. It looks at the positive image of the country's cities and towns rendered in the literature and art of the period, and compares it with other British Dominions as well as with America. Such optimistic images were considered vital to urban growth by promoters who were intent on inducing increased immigration, tourism and investment to their cities and towns. In addition to economic motivation, it will also be argued that the boosters in New Zealand were imbued to an unusual degree by dreams of creating an urban utopia in their New World, one that was free from the influences of vices typically associated with the Old World. In examining perceptions of urban New Zealand, this thesis also attempts to revert the imbalance in New Zealand historiography which has generally ignored cities and towns or which has assumed that all debate about them was negative. It undertakes a study of a wide array of promotional sources, including material which has never before been examined, such as motion pictures and foreign language texts. "Coloured Views" attempts to show that cities and towns had their ardent defenders in New Zealand as well as their critics. The study concludes with an examination of modern booster techniques in order to emphasise the topicality of the subject matter.</p>

The author, emphasizing the necessity of updating the content of the language education of non-philological foreign students of Ukrainian universities, performs a linguo-didactic analysis of the subject side of the content of the system of teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language to non-philological students. Within the modern linguistic paradigm, the subject content of teaching a foreign language, in particular UFL, is considered a system of linguistic means (phonetic, lexical, grammatical, stylistic, socio-cultural, speech etiquette, rhetorical). In the conditions when the modern linguodidactic paradigm is dominated by communicative-activity and intercultural approaches and the consciously-practical method of teaching, aimed at ensuring that foreign students would master the content component of their language education, the following units of learning are recognized: sentences, expressions, texts, and dialogues. The need for updating the content component of the teaching system of UFL arises in connection with the requirements of the modern information society and new requirements for the tasks and results of teaching foreign languages. It has been found that the achievements of a relatively new theory of language communication will allow refining the components of the content of foreign language teaching, which will have an impact on improving the quality of language education of foreign non-philological students of Ukrainian universities. The submitted scientific research substantiates the choice of such a unit of study as a communicative act, which in the future allows reforming the educational process to attract foreign students to Ukrainian discourses. The author describes the structural-semantic components of the personal, verbal-cognitive, verbal and extraverbal levels of the communicative act as a fragment of the communication process within a certain communicative situation. The conclusion is made about the potentialities of the described parameters of the communicative act as a basis for updating the steady methodical principles of language material selection.
