The phenomenon of university dropout is met in all universities in the world and its effects are felt both at the economic level, at the level of society and at the personal level of students who abandon the university. Factors leading to university dropout may be of a social nature (student background, income level, so on.), psycho-pedagogical (inadequate academic training, inconsistency between prior training and university studies, lack of counseling services, so on)and personal (poor adaptability to the university, low levels of socio-emotional intelligence, so on). Universities need to cope with this phenomenon and adapt and develop prevention and intervention services so that students' retention rate rises. The paper analyzes this phenomenon in The Bucharest University of Economic Studies and identifies possible solutions for diminishing the phenomenon.

Background: This research was birthed in 2017 during a trip to Lusaka, Zambia, with the purpose of offering fourth-year, medical students attending the University of Zambia, School of Medicine, lectures on psychology topics as part of their clinical studies.  Students were also offered brief therapy sessions where they could process thoughts and feelings causing them internal struggles.  The subject of offering counseling on a regular basis was randomly discussed with the students.  From these discussions the need for this research became evident, with the intent of becoming the launching pad to brainstorm the most effective ways of developing a plan to offer counseling services for all medical students attending the University of Zambia School of Medicine. Methods: An-experimental research design, consisting of completion of a 12-item questionnaire administered by paper and pen. The inclusion criteria were the fourth year, medical students attending the University of Zambia, School of Medicine. Results:  The student responses revealed that most of them had little to no experience with counseling services, but a strong desire for them. Discussion: The goal of this study was to simply establish a need for an on-campus counseling service, the need of which has been established by the very students who would benefit.  With the acceptance of this need, the future plan is to explore the different ways in which this need can be fulfilled with minimal costs to the Medical School Program. Conclusion:  This study is the first step towards identifying the needs of the medical students and sets the ground-work for further research into the specific areas of need and mental health challenges.  More specificity in the area of demographics of students will produce a more comprehensive picture of the areas of concentration for the therapists offering services.

The general objective of the article is to determine the degree of satisfaction of the students of the Autonomous University of Chiapas, Mexico, through a cross-sectional study to assess the institutional services offered and their impact on their academic training. The specific objectives are: 1) Analyze the opinion of students regarding their curriculum and teachers, 2) Analyze the opinion of students regarding the knowledge of university regulations and 3) Describe the conditions of University infrastructure: physical and technological. The methodology used was the explanatory method of qualitative-quantitative and transverse cutting, for this it was necessary to design and apply a Likert-type survey, which was applied to 3,842 enrolled students of the 5th. to the 8th. semester of 22 Bachelor's degrees from the various UNACH headquarters. The contribution that this research has is: a) Provide academic elements to university authorities for decision making in their accreditation processes, b) Training of human resources through the participation of students in the development of research and c) Sensitize the university community through the publication of research results.

The university extension activities are a form of interaction between the university and the community, and based on it, different health promotion activities can be developed, as the sustainable development of vulnerable communities for example. Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection that can present asymptomatic or symptomatic forms and has affected countless people around the world. In Brazil, the number of infected people has increased over the years, even with the SUS providing treatment, which is quite worrying due to congenital syphilis. With the growth of infected people in the country, especially in the state of Pernambuco, it is essential to fight syphilis through preventive actions. Teaching and learning strategies such as health education demonstrate the transforming role of university extension for undergraduates and society, aiming to contribute to the academic training of undergraduates through the exchange of knowledge. The activities to raise awareness about syphilis were held in a conversation circle during the Science and Technology Week, CECINE-UFPE/2019, and in the Parasitology course at UFPE. At the end of each exhibition, information leaflets and condoms were also distributed. At first, the students were shy when they saw illustrated panels with syphilitic lesions and condoms on the benches. However, as the interaction progressed, they were amazed by the epidemiology, exposing their doubts and prior knowledge on the subject. With each new action, the extension workers understood more about the social commitment and demonstrated more security. Thus, the project contributes to the academic training of undergraduates, providing the development of educational practices with students, who become agents for disseminating knowledge in the fight and prevention of syphilis in their social spaces.

When we live in the yes, public life in America will be rescued from despair. We know from the Hispanic community’s example that religious knowledge of our place in the universe is healthy. The yes functions similarly. At the personal level, the reader who answers Lonergan’s question with a yes will encounter celebration, gratitude, and, because we have not lived up to the direction of the universe, confession. The universe now offers correction that must be taken seriously, though not coercively or institutionally. The yes spreads through the cultural entity of cosmopolis, which will confront our nihilism. The disciplines and the university will be renewed by a new understanding of the unity of all subject matters. Each course of study, though different, is always of a universe that is on our side. Policy debates will consider the common good. Politics will be filled with meaning and be more generous.

Abstract Academic careers in Germany have been under debate for a while. We conduct a survey among postdocs in Germany to analyze the perceptions and attitudes of postdocs regarding their research incentives, their working conditions, and their career prospects. We conceptualize the career prospects of a postdoc in a life-cycle perspective of transitions from academic training to academic or non-academic jobs. Only about half of the postdocs sees strong incentives for academic research, but there is quite a strong confidence to succeed in an academic career. Furthermore, postdocs who attended a PhD program show better career prospects and higher research incentives compared to others. Academic career prospects and motivation are strongest for assistant professors. Apart from this small group, however, postdocs report only a small impact of the university reforms of the last decade. Female postdocs show significantly higher research incentives but otherwise we find little gender differences. Finally, good prospects in nonacademic jobs are not associated with a reduction in the motivation for research.

'Dropout' is a phenomenon in practice and a defined concept in the literature, one of the most actual issues in education. It is a complex and multifaceted process. The Ratio research group, established at J. Selye University in Slovakia, also launched its research to study this phenomenon based on various objective and subjective aspects. The present study introduces a particular part of this research process. Music education is a crucial part of (pre-school and elementary) teacher training, which includes a unity of theoretical and practical knowledge. It is one of the most demanding subjects, which has been proven to cause difficulties in passing exams, in the successful fulfilment of the study conditions of teacher trainees and university studies. According to this facts, the study aims to assess the opinions of first-year (pre-school and elementary) teacher trainees and the objective and subjective circumstances (defined by them) that have helped or hindered them in meeting the study requirements for the subject of music education. Further, the paper aims to map out students' experiences during the study and exam period, which finally provided reinforcement in their university studies' relationship.

The present study illustrates an experience report on the “social support” axis, with a view to social assistance and information, developed through the “UMAnizando in times of Coronavirus” project, created by the University of Maturity (UMA) - Extension Program of the Federal University of Tocantins (UFT). The primary objective is to ensure the well-being of academics in this phase of isolation, due to Covid-19, considering that old people are the main risk group in the global pandemic scenario. The project brings together professionals from different areas, such as gerontologists, social workers, pedagogues, physical educators, master's students and academics from the Medicine, Nutrition and Nursing courses, who assist and inform with the social nature, the old people of “UMA”, in vulnerable situation.

The development ofthis work is based on the tripod: local and regional context; emphasis on academic and curricular mobility, which enables the integration of theory-practice, teaching-research-extension, achieving the necessary integration and synergy between the university and the community; and in the institutional commitmentand identity, promoting the construction of a strong institutional identity, with the clarity of its mission and the involvement of all institutional agents for the establishment of an organizational structure that acts in an organic and effective way. The mainobjective of this study and investigation will be to discuss the contribution of the social project of university extension “Universidade Bairro” (Neighborhood University) developed by ISECENSA in TamarindoCommunity, located in Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ, for the academic and professional trainingof students. The locusof the research will be the Tamarindo Community, located in the urban area of Campos dos Goytacazes, RJ. The population will be students enrolled in higher education courses at ISECENSA(2021/2022) who work in the development of extension actions and community residents.As for the approach to the problem, the study and investigation will have a qualitative approach. For data collection, multiple data sources will be used: bibliographic research, participatory observation, interviews and questionnaires.What is expected from this project is a reflection on the importance of socio-academic work for academic training, developing them, encouraging them, leading them to systematize and socialize reflections on practice in the various fields of activity.As well as contributing to the establishment of an Extension Policy for ISECENSA and to subsidizing the academic and institutional actions developed with the Tamarindo Community.
