Despite the consensus among industry leaders, policymakers, educational institutions, and students themselves that it is essential that U.S. college graduates be prepared for international careers, little attention is given to understanding the dynamics that encourage or dissuade students from such a pursuit. A survey administered to U.S. undergraduates reveals that key factors motivating students include love of travel, interest in other cultures, the possibility of earning a high salary, and the potential for opportunities in the major discipline. Key concerns include leaving family and friends and a lack of foreign language ability. It is argued that the internationalization of career advising is vital and urgent and that administrators, international educators, career centers, and academic departments must all take purposeful action

This article deals with the method of using regional studies in foreign language classes in a non-linguistic university. It speaks about the realization of interdisciplinary relations as one of the effective means of professsionalizing the educational process. The paper also considers some variants of activities at the English lessons. Combinations of such subjects as Geography and English, History and English are presented. The interests of students in the field of their specialty are revealed. The interdisciplinary relations as a means of increasing general education and cultural potential of higher educational institutions are also highlighted. The necessity for highly qualified specialists in various specialities is emphasized in this article. This article presents the results of a study on the possibilities of computer educational games for the development of various cognitive skills for learners. The advantages they offer in the learning process are highlighted. Special emphasis is placed on the relationship between game-based learning and mental development of learners. Examples of game-based learning from leading educational institutions at different stages of the educational process are given. A prototype of an educational game with several interactive puzzles is presented. They are designed to teach students in mathematics and philology (learning a foreign language). The developed prototypes can be used to acquire new knowledge or to assess the acquisition of knowledge and skills in various subject areas.

The student's academic development, retention, and attainment gap are considered as the common key factors that influence the institutional academic performance. In this regard, educational institutions are focusing to reduce the attainment gap between good, average, and poor performing students. Two different datasets are taken for this study. Students' data is collected through questionnaire, and Dataset 1 (D1) is created. The second dataset (D2) is taken from the repository. Both the datasets have been preprocessed followed by attribute selection and predictive modeling. In this study, predictive models have been built, and the learners are classified as high, average, and low performers based on their academic scores as well as on their demographic characters. The three classifier models are applied on the datasets. Based on the evaluation measures, the best classifier is identified. This early identification of low performance students will help the educators as well as the learners to put a special care to enhance the learning process as well as to improve the academic performance.

Increased global trade coupled with diversified employment opportunities have generated demand for college graduates to possess enhanced interpersonal and foreign communication skills and a well-developed understanding of foreign culture. Horticultural employment opportunities also require students to possess a mastery of horticultural theory with an established record of direct, hands-on experience. Despite these needs, financial limitations of students and academic departments coupled with a lack of available opportunities may restrict students from developing these critical skills. Through development of cooperative learning programs, students have an opportunity to master and refine their horticultural skills while simultaneously raising funds, which are allocated for professional development including an international learning program. This article provides a successful overview of a student-based cooperative learning program that enhances student learning opportunities.

Introduction. The paper focuses on the design of individual educational routes for students of higher educational institutions in a competency-based learning environment. Individual educational routes assume particular importance for teaching a foreign language in multilevel and multidirectional groups. The objective of the study is to design individual educational routes for students studying German at a technical university. The achievement of this objective involves specification of the concept, scope, and stages of the design of individual educational routes and corresponding pedagogical conditions. Materials and Methods. The object of the research is the process of designing individual educational routes for Bachelor and Specialist’s degree students learning the discipline “Foreign Language” at Irkutsk State Transport University. The development of individual educational routes based on design method is a joint activity of teacher and students at the stages of motivational support, goal-setting, content and resource support. Results. The outcome of the research is designed individual educational routes of the adaptive, developmental and creative type for the students learning German. Conclusion. The practical significance of the study lies in the individualization and variability of competency-based learning, and the rational organization of individual work based on the knowledge of the German language. Prospects for further study of the issue entails reflective analyses of the adoption of the designed individual educational routes and their optimal correction. The article describes the modern approaches to the informatization of educational process in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. The relevance of introducing of and its regulatory framework are investigated and the views of scientists to the definitions of "distance learning" and "information-educational environment" are summarizes. The system of work with students using distance learning courses "Business Foreign Language" and "Modern children's literature English-speaking countries" is shown on the example of BorysGrinchenko Kyiv University (Kyiv, Ukraine). The results of investigation based on a survey of students at the beginning and end of the distance courses work demonstrated that the use of distance learning coursespromotes to the self-organization of the student, improving computer skills, facilitates the process of self-learning.

The article is devoted to the consideration of the relevance and analysis of the formation of the professional competence of a foreign language teacher. This is due to the modern socio-cultural conditions, new educational standards, and the ever-increasing requirements for the process of teaching foreign languages. The term "professional competence" is considered using an integrated methodology, which includes theoretical and empirical research methods. The authors have concluded that the professional competence of a foreign language teacher is a complex of various skills and abilities facilitating effective cooperation between the teacher and students in certain professional situations. Furthermore, the authors see the solutions to these problems, the creation of a flexible and mobile system of advanced training and the search for more effective forms of interaction between educational institutions, methodological services, and professional associations of teachers for purposeful continuous pedagogical education of teachers of a foreign language.

Distance education at lightning-fast speed has become the only possible form of education. Distance learning of a foreign language for students of higher educational institutions has a number of advantages due to the fact that we are talking about pedagogical interaction with the age group of psychologically mature individuals with relatively formed mechanisms of motivation and outlined personal and professional orientation. The purpose of the present research is a comprehensive analysis of the process and results of distance learning of a foreign language (English) for students of economic specialties. The research methods are as follows: the analysis of modern opportunities for organizing distance learning; study of theoretical and methodological papers on the subject matter; method of experimental teaching of foreign languages with an emphasis on tactics of stimulating the personal and motivational sphere of students’ educational activities; development of author’s diagnostic models in order to reveal the dynamics of development of knowledge and practical skills in a foreign language of students of economic profile; qualitative and quantitative analysis of empirical data; statistical and mathematical interpretation of results, their functional analysis; method of generalization and abstraction. According to the data obtained, the hypothesis of the research has been confirmed.

The article touches upon the problems of teaching English as a third foreign language in higher educational institutions of the Republic of Armenia. The students’ mother tongue, in this case, is Armenian. Russian is the first foreign language and French is the second one. Considering the fact that the students’ 2nd (French) and 3rd (English) foreign languages have significant similarities that can cause both positive transfer and negative interference, the teaching/learning process of English should be organized by paying special attention to the similarities and taking into account certain peculiarities. Accordingly, the use of correctly selected exercises can help in organizing the teaching/learning process more quickly and effectively. The author also introduces some “dangerous” language phenomena that may bring about undesirable interference in learning English after French. In addition, a number of exercise samples are provided that might be used to develop the students’ lexical, grammatical and phonological competences in teaching/learning English as a third foreign language.

With a number of educational opportunities available to students of the modern generation, new trends that have completely changed the face of the traditional education system have emerged. Recent trends in the methodology reflect the vitally important role of the education sector as a whole, with its internalization of the educational process, emphasis on quality, and increased use of new technologies. Theory and methods are constantly being developed in the field of ELT. The article presents well-known trends in ELT that have been practically used all over the world recently. New trends in foreign language teaching are becoming known as GTM, a communicative method.
