Introduction. The discourse that has unfolded recently about the future of the school, about the difficult relationship between the school and the parents of students, about the difficulties of introducing state-public administration has led to the need for a scientific understanding of the position of modern parents regarding the education of their own child and in the broader context of their participation in educational policy. The main goal of this theoretical article is to analyze the current features of the interaction between school and family and to build a comprehensive model for the participation of parents in the education of their children and in the educational policy of the school. Methodology and methods. The study refers to the comparative analysis and generalization of the results of the specialized and comprehensive scientific data, dedicated to the problems of parental positions in mutual relations with the school. Methodology of research composed of complex approach, detailed and subjective approaches, semantic analysis of central points, synthesis of positions and partial models, proposed different researchers. Results and scientific novelty. In the course of the work, studies were analyzed on the problems of interaction between parents and schools, the concepts of “parental involvement/participation”, “educational policy and its subjects”. The created model reveals the personal and institutional aspects of parental participation, taking into account the different levels of subjectivity of the participants in the interaction. The novelty of the proposed model lies in the fact that it compares two types of participation: participation in the construction of the child's educational space and participation in the educational policy of the school. At the same time, three groups of factors are identified that determine the nature of participation: “subjects” of participation or interest of parents, based on their idea of the quality of education; communication channels, ways of interaction between educational subjects; socio-psychological “motivators” for participation. Practical significance. The resulting model allows the school to purposefully adjust the processes of interaction with parents. The model also serves as the basis for empirical research to identify the conditions for effective family-school cooperation and its impact on the child's school well-being and educational achievement.

Prior studies have shown that physical activity (PA) is strongly associated with lifelong health and well-being. Thus, analyses of relationships among individual differences, PA, education, and health may provide important insights into the sustainability of PA-related personal development efforts. In this longitudinal study, we tested a proposed model in a data set of 12,686 participants from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY 79). We used hierarchical regressions and bootstrapping to test hypotheses concerning the main effect of personal control on lifetime health, the mediating effect of PA, and the moderating effect of educational achievement. We found that individuals’ self-reported PA was positively related to their health status. Additionally, there was a positive mediating effect of self-reported PA on the relationship between personal control and health when the individual’s educational level was high, and there was a negative mediating effect of self-reported PA when an individual’s educational level was low. Based on these results, we provide relevant government policy suggestions for increasing fitness participation, constructing sports facilities, and encouraging educational institutions to include health education in their efforts.

Dimensional variation analysis in multistation manufacturing processes (MMPs) is a challenging research topic with great practical significance. Researchers have been focused on constructing various mathematical models to identify the correlations among the huge amounts of collected production data. However, current models have achieved insufficient insights into the variation correlation laws due to the complexity of the data’s mutual relations. In this study, a data-driven modeling method is developed for deep data-mining and dimensional variation analysis. The proposed initial mathematical expression originates from practical engineering knowledge. Through a mathematical treatment, the mathematical expression is transformed into a first-order AR(1) model format, which contains multiple dimensional variations’ interstation and temporal correlating information. To obtain this information, the estimation of the proposed model is discussed in detail. A simulation case involving two key product characteristics of a grinding process is used to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method for dimensional variation analysis in MMPs.

The paper highlights the topicality and need for elaboration and implementation of up-to-date comprehensive programs of psychological correction for preschool children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Failure to provide effective aid for children with ADHD without regard to their special educational needs has been underlined. Theoretical foundations of the subject-oriented model of psychocorrection of preschool children’s hyperactivity by means of synthesis of pathogenic and psychological-pedagogical approaches on the basis of Z. S. Karpenko’s principle of integral subjectivity have been validated. The proposed model of psychocorrection of hyperactivity explains developmental impairment and deformation of psychosocial development of preschoolers by a delay of their subjectivity in terms of sensomotor, attentional, mnemic, affective-conative, speech and communicative aspects. The need for actualization of a complex approach towards psychological correction, upbringing and education of hyperactive preschoolers and implementation of special programs of psychological education for parents has been reasoned.

AbstractThe distinction between genetic influences on the covariance (or bivariate heritability) and genetic correlations in bivariate twin models is often not well-understood or only one is reported while the results show distinctive information about the relation between traits. We applied bivariate twin models in a large sample of adolescent twins, to disentangle the association between well-being (WB) and four complex traits (optimism, anxious-depressed symptoms (AD), aggressive behaviour (AGG), and educational achievement (EA)). Optimism and AD showed respectively a strong positive and negative phenotypic correlation with WB, the negative correlation of WB and AGG is lower and the correlation with EA is nearly zero. All four traits showed a large genetic contribution to the covariance with well-being. The genetic correlations of well-being with optimism and AD are strong and smaller for AGG and EA. We used the results of the models to explain what information is retrieved based on the bivariate heritability versus the genetic correlations and the (clinical) implications.

Understanding transformative services, where the consumer is not the primary well-being beneficiary, is fundamental to furthering the transformative service research (TSR) paradigm. Furthermore, it is imperative to understand the co-creation behaviors consumers can partake in during prosocial transformative services to improve their service experience and, ultimately, their repeat usage of the service. This study is one of the first to develop a model drawing together three key service frameworks (co-creation behavior, service quality, and consumer value), which is empirically validated using real consumers of a prosocial transformative service, namely blood donation. In addition, a key strength of the study is the objective measurement of behavioral loyalty using organizational records, which is an important extension to prior TSR studies that often measure attitudinal loyalty (behavioral intentions) as a proxy. The findings have important implications for furthering transformative scholars’ and practitioners’ understanding of how services can improve individual and societal well-being.

Globally, mindfulness is an emerging and innovative trend in education. Specifically, in school-based education, there has been growing excitement surrounding the implementation of mindfulness. Although policy, political and economic shifts and powers may seem quite far removed from the realities of children and mindfulness, the political economy does indeed saturate and shape children’s lives in multiple ways. The purpose of this review is to chart some of the economic and political contexts and highlight some of the shifts that may speak to the emerging trend of mindfulness in education. This critical review addresses the themes and shifts in economies and educational policy, highlights links between neuroscience-based discourses, mindfulness, social-emotional learning and emotional well-being in education.

IntroductionEach individual experience cancer in a different way. While some perceive cancer as a complex and traumatic experience by developing some psychosocial and additional physical problems, others overcome cancer-related difficulties by gaining benefits such as post-traumatic growth (PTG) owing to their resilience. Resilience and PTG that are very valuable concepts in human life to adapt positively to cancer process have relations which need to be better understood.ObjectivesWe aimed to provide a better understanding of relations between resilience and PTG and relations of these two concepts with cancer experience.MethodsLiterature review.ResultsSuccessful adjustment to life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, require resilience. On the other hand, resilience provides a barrier toward stressors by helping improvement of PTG and so, is an antecedent factor of PTG. PTG ensures a deeper perspective and strength to people after traumatic events. Hence, individuals having higher levels of PTG feel powerful enough to handle the problems in their life and can easily adapt to cancer process by focusing on the positive outcomes of trauma, having improved coping mechanisms and an improved psychological well-being.ConclusionsResilience and PTG have strong mutual relations and this phenomenon should be considered for a qualified cancer care.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Purpose Past research identifies many positive outcomes associated with workplace exercise initiatives. Realizing these outcomes is, however, dependent on securing sustained employee participation in the initiative. This study examines how organizational factors influence employee participation in workplace exercise initiatives. Design/methodology/approach The study utilizes data from 98 employees who were provided with the opportunity to participate in a workplace exercise initiative. Data were collected via an online survey as well as semi-structured interviews. Findings The paper shows that organizational, rather than individual-level, factors had the greatest impact on employee participation in workplace exercise initiatives. Leadership support for well-being was particularly important and had a significant effect on participation frequency. This relationship was moderated by employee perceptions of employer intentions, such that the more genuine and caring an employer’s intentions were perceived to be, the more likely employees were to participate. Our findings also show that perceived employer intentions have a significant direct effect on employee participation. Research implications We extend research on employee participation in well-being initiatives by considering the influence of organizational, rather than individual-level, factors. Practical implications This research is of practical significance as it highlights the importance of positive leadership in fostering physical well-being in the workplace. It reinforces that sustained participation in workplace exercise initiatives requires deliberate planning, promotion and support from organizational leaders. Originality/value Most studies of workplace exercise and well-being initiatives focus on individual barriers to participation. Our study highlights the important role of leadership support and perceived intentions as organizational influences on employee participation.

The article discusses the concept “happiness” as represented and interpreted in lexicography. The aim of the study is to compare existing theories about the origin of the word Glück, to trace the development of its semantics from one generalized meaning to a set of meanings that reflects a gradual evolution of people’s ideas about happiness, and to identify ways of representing these ideas by lexicographic means. Using methods of historical-linguistic, compara-tive, etymological, definitional, and semantic analysis, the authors examine German dictionaries and lexicons published in the period from 1513 to 1888 and establish that in those four centuries the concept “happiness,” represented in the German vocabulary by the lexeme Glück, underwent significant transformation, as material and spiritual needs of people kept changing against the background of gradual humanization of their social life, which, in its turn, led to added complexity in the semantic structure of the lexeme Glück that embodies this concept. Descriptions of the lexeme Glück in dictionaries dating from the beginning of the 16th to mid-18th century are very concise due to the type of these dictionaries (nomenclators, translated dictionaries) and do not involve detailed comments on the full range of meanings that the lexeme had. The main elements of the semantic structure of the lexeme are ‘(temporary) well-being,’ ‘bliss,’ ‘luc ,’ and ‘fortune (fate)’ (glu c fall, glu c elig eit, wol tand, zeit-liche Wolfart). Analyzing interpretations of the lexeme Glück in the mid-18th — late 19th century dictionaries, the authors conclude that the semantic structure of the lexeme became more complicated due to philosophical rethinking of the concept and its integrated dissemination through dictionaries. The etymology of the word Glüc is still unclear. It is assumed that the word appeared in the 13th century and retained a neutral meaning until the end of the Middle High German period when a positive connotation began to prevail in the semantics of the word.
