The Cserénfa experiment. On the attempt to install computers and Internet in a tiny village in Hungary Authors: György Lengyel, professor of sociology, Corvinus University of Budapest, Department of Sociology and Social Policy, [email protected] Eliza Eranusz, Ph.D. student, Corvinus University of Budapest Department of Sociology and Social Policy Dániel Füleki, junior research fellow, Corvinus University of Budapest Department of eBusiness László Lőrincz, Ph.D. student, Corvinus University of Budapest Department of Sociology and Social Policy Viktória Siklós, Ph.D. student, Corvinus University of Budapest Department of Sociology and Social Policy Abstract The research aimed at studying social impacts of network-based and organized IT-learning in a local community. At the beginning of the project courses were organized, then computers and Internet accesses were made available for families, and we asked them to provide help for others on a voluntary basis. The turnout of the village Telehouse (the public eAccess point) was monitored at the same time. Focus groups, interviews, computer generated documents and diaries of the participants were the major sources of the research. As for the primary impacts, by the end of the experiment IT knowledge and related aspirations increased although side effects, like envy and frustration also did occur. The Internet activity of the participants was predominated by recreation and not by information gathering or resource extension. As far as wider social aspects are concerned, at the beginning of the project villagers thought that people were reserved, mistrustful and unprepared to help, and this mood did not change much to the end. While children learn basic IT skills in the elementary school adults are worse off in this respect. Therefore organizing courses for them was popular and proved to be useful. Another policy result is that outplacing to networks and the Telehouse satisfy more or less the same potential demand thus it is not advisable to apply both of them in a small settlement. This qualitative research was conducted in Tambakromo Village and Mojomulyo Village. The result shows that the implementation of Village Fund has been in accordance with the substance of rules that underlies the village fund policy, such as how to transfer the fund, the planning, the implementation procedure, the liability, and the monitoring of the village fund. However, in their participation in the implementation of village fund policy, the actors who have big roles in allocating the village fund were the internal bureaucracy actors. Meanwhile, the participation of the local community was low. Ideally, the local community should greatly participate starting from the planning step up to the monitoring of Fund Policy.

In Vitruvius’ treatise, what makes good architecture is its ability to communicate to the public particular messages that reflects the program of the building with spaces and components arranged in an orderly way. According to Vitruvius these messages when acknowledges by the public the building posses strong character. This research discusses this idea by reflecting on the 1895 competition of the Egyptian Museum project. Marcel Dourgnon, the French architect of the winning scheme, showed profound understanding of character resulting in a building that had positive vibe with the local community.  Today Vitruvius’ idea is still living with us. Norman Foster succeeded in upgrading the British Museum in a way that addressed all cultures of the world through his grand atrium design.  Similarly, Emad Farid and Ramez Azmy revived the presence of the Egyptian Museum in public cognition.  Spatial experience that evokes similar perceptions to all its visitors is a timeless piece that transcends cultural boundaries.

This research explains the mysticism of mappadendang tradition in Allamungeng Patue Village, Bone Regency, which is believed by the local community as a form of shielding from danger and can resist reinforcemen such as Covid-19 outbreak. This research is a descriptive study using qualitative method and an ethnographic approach. This research was carried out with the aim of identifying the mystical space in mappadendang tradition which was held in Allamungeng Patue Village. After conducting the tracing process, the researcher found that mappadendang tradition which was held in Allamungeng Patue Village, Bone Regency in July 2020 was not a tradition of harvest celebration as generally in several villages in Bone Regency, especially Bugis tribe, but mappadendang was held as a form of shielding from all distress including Covid-19 outbreak. This trust was obtained after one of the immigrants who now resides in the village dreamed of meeting an invisible figure (tau panrita) who ordered a party to be held that would bring all the village people because remembering that in the village during Covid-19 happened to almost all the existing areas in Indonesia, the people of Allamungeng Patue Village were spared from the outbreak. Spontaneously, the people of Allamungeng Patue Village worked together to immediately carry out the mappadendang tradition as a form of interpretation of the message carried by the figure.
