Covid-19, which affects the whole world and is accepted as a pandemic by the world health organization, caused millions of people to die. The elderly are in the group with the highest risk of losing their lives due to the Covid-19 virus. Stricter restrictive / protective measures have been taken for the elderly in Turkey, as in the whole world. With this research, it is aimed to evaluate the sociological and psychological effects of the "elderly", who are one of the health risk groups of the society, in terms of landscape architecture, during the pandemic days when they had to experience various problems after the outbreak. In the study, face-to-face and online questionnaires were applied to individuals aged 50 and over on a voluntary basis. As a result of the study, it was determined that the implementation of curfews and restrictions for the elderly and the formation of an isolated lifestyle from other age groups caused an increase in loneliness and anxiety levels and negative psychological effects. It has been revealed that the activities that individuals will carry out in the green area, their conversations and socializing with their peers, and walks in the open area have a positive psychological and sociological effect for the elderly. It has been determined that the elderly who become lonely and depressed at home with the restrictions imposed under pandemic conditions want to be in green areas. The sociological and psychological positive effects of being in green areas and spending time, and the changes in the behaviour and emotions of the elderly who have pandemic restrictions paralleled the response of the participants to the questionnaire.

Liberalization poses significant challenges for the continued provision of collective goods within coordinated market economies (CME). Extant scholarship suggests two dominant sets of responses. Either CMEs continue to rely on employer coordination, but only for a privileged core, leading to dualization. Or, in cases where the state enjoys high capacity, the state instead compensates for liberalization but ends up crowding out employer coordination. In both cases, the result is decreasing employer coordination. We argue that in CMEs, the state may also play the role of “orchestrator” by supporting the revitalization of employer coordination. It does so through the deployment of ideational and institutional resources that mobilize employers’ associations on a voluntary basis. Applying our framework to a core area of coordinated capitalism, vocational education and training, we show that in both Germany and Switzerland, this indirect and soft form of state intervention was instrumental for turning around their crisis-stricken vocational training systems.

The European Union has a clear strategy on how sustainable development should be financed. However, there is still no regulation that defines which activities can be considered sustainable and which cannot. Private initiative has taken the lead in recent years with the publication of different taxonomies and principles applicable on a voluntary basis to green financial products and social projects. The EU taxonomy, issued in 2020, establishes criteria to determine whether an economic activity is environmentally sustainable, and the green bond standard is in the consultation period in 2021. The EU taxonomy will increase investor confidence in green financial products, prevent greenwashing, and reduce information costs. This chapter reviews the evolution and future application of the EU taxonomy, the EU green bond standard, and the need to adopt a taxonomy for socially sustainable activities.

Abstract The study examines the impact of the agricultural associations of two Swabian settlements – Mezőfény (Foieni) and Mezőpetri (Petrești) – on the local economy and society. Agricultural associations played an important role at the beginning of the process of agrarian transformation after the regime change in Romania. The successor organisations of the socialist agricultural associations, now established on a voluntary basis, were able to counteract the impoverishment caused by the reparcelling or forced reparcelling of land during the long transitional period, while at the same time exploiting their monopoly position to prevent the emergence of individual and family farmers. The risk-averse, self-reliant economic model of the associations is reminiscent of the peasant, self-sufficient farm organisation. The associations can thus be seen as a very specific form of post-socialist post-peasant production systems.

Thromboembolic diseases are important causes of morbidity and mortality. Oral anticoagulants for preventing or treating thromboembolic diseases reduce blood clotting and prevent fibrin deposition, thrombus development, and growth. This study aimed to investigate the educational needs and the rate of reaching the target INR level of individuals using warfarin for heart diseases. The population of this cross-sectional study was attempted to reach the entire population by not choosing a sample due to heart diseases between August –September 2019 in the cardiology outpatient clinic of a public hospital operating in Istanbul. However, due to the voluntary basis and incorrect registration of the questionnaires, 157 participants formed the sample. Data were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program. 75.1% of the individuals stated that they were informed about the use of warfarin, and 66.8% of those who received the information stated that they received the information from their physician. In addition, 75.7% stated that they took warfarin regularly, 81.7% had regular INR control, 52.1% knew the target INR value, 68.9% knew the complications. It was found to be 47.6. A statistically significant difference was found between individuals who reached the target INR level and those who did not, according to their information acquisition status (p <0.05). The low rate of individuals reaching the target INR level draws attention. For this reason, it is thought that the knowledge level of patients who are starting treatment with warfarin should be increased, and new generation oral anticoagulant drugs can be used as an anticoagulant treatment instead of warfarin in patients whose target INR cannot be achieved despite sufficient training.

Currently, mobile phones are widely used worldwide. Thus, phubbing rapidly became a common phenomenon in our social life. Phubbing is considered by the literature as a new form of technology-related addiction that may undermine interpersonal relationships and mental health. Our study contributed to exploring phubbers’ emotional activation as no other work has investigated it so far. Indeed, researchers have only explored phubbees’ but not phubbers’ emotional correlates. A sample of 419 Italian individuals (143 males) participated in our data collection on a voluntary basis. The results showed that phubbing is related to negative affects, but not to positive affects. Moreover, phubbing in both its components (i.e., communication disturbance, phone obsession) appeared to elicit an emotional activation similar to that of social media addiction. These findings may help in strengthening the discussion around the emotional consequences of virtual environment design, as well as the awareness about what happens at a relational level during phubbing.

Objectives: To effectively control the spread of COVID-19, the public’s adherence to relevant disease preventive measures (DPM) is critical. This study examined individuals’ adherence to various DPM and identified facilitators and barriers to adherence in a community sample in Hong Kong. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, telephone surveys were conducted over December 2020 and January 2021. Participants provided responses on their adherence to DPM as well as other psychosocial and cognitive factors via the phone. Results: Of the sample of 1255 Chinese adults (aged >18 years, 53% women), 94.4% wore face masks in public areas; 88.4% avoided touching their eyes, nose, and mouth; 82.1% performed hand hygiene practices; 81.5% used alcohol-based hand rubs; 74.6% abided by social distancing; and 39.7% tested for COVID-19 on a voluntary basis. Perceived benefits, perceived barriers, self-efficacy, cues to action, perceived acceptability, and disruptions to daily life related to COVID-19 were associated with individuals’ adherence to DPM. Conclusions: Adherence to DPM was strong in Hong Kong, and the adherence level could be predicted by various factors. It is vital to consider these factors in order to improve the public’s adherence.

Abstract Aim Between 01/2011 and 12/2020 5,068 AWR-patients at our department (tertiary referral center) – 884 (17.4%) incisionals. Over this 10-years period considerable changes (patients characteristics, surgical techniques, results) were analyzed. Material and Methods Herniamed® offers an internet-based registry-platform to document all kinds of abdominal wall repairs on a voluntary basis since 2009. Demographic data, interventional details and outcomes are documented using the EHS-classification-system. Follow-up is standardized and sheduled for 10 years. Results Up to 54.7% of patients (in 2020) show at least one risk factor (diabetes, smoking ….), in contrast to the age pyramid patients >70 years are decreasing (47.2% in 2011 down to 29.3% in 2020), share of ASA III/IV is initially increasing (up to 42.9% in 2017) with a constant decrease after 2017 to 25.3% in 2020. Emergent cases are increasing (6.9% in 2011 up to 10.8% in 2019). Recurrent hernia repairs stays almost constant at median 21.7%. After 2015 we decided – for various reasons - not to routinely apply the laparoscopic IPOM-technique (with an interim ratio of up to 46.2%) – with a post-OP complication rate of median 23.3% anymore. From 2016 onwards we performed an increasing number of „other techniques“ (E-MILOS, E-TEP, ….) up to 36% in 2020 instead. Conclusions By analysing trends we recognized that patients show increasing numbers of risk factors and ASA-scores which led us to implement a prehabilitational strategy in clinical routine. However rate of post-OP complication is still high representing AWR as demanding in many aspects. A temporary cessation of MIS did not led to an extensive increase in post-OP wound complications.
