Reduction of energy consumption, which creates hygienic root crops, is achieved with the use of expanded boxes of new technologies and improved pick-up modules, which is an urgent scientific task. Tests of the energy-saving method of growing plants are given and what is more, the scheme of experimental installations (put into operation of the plant harvesting module) and the methods of experimental field factors used in roots have been provided. Analytical and empirical dependencies are obtained, which characterize the change of the second feed and the specific mass of the cut and chopped knife of the rotary saw cutter, depending on the velocity of the module, the yield capacity and the density of chicory root crops plantation. The specific mass of the plant harvested from 3 rows of root crops are, respectively, in the range from 17 to 36 (kg/s) and from 19 to 27 (kg/m2). The results of the experimental studies were processed using Statistics 10, the confidence level P = 0.95, the Fisher F-criterion F = 100.8> Frit and the t-alpha criterion t = 2.05. Based on the graphical constructions it was established that the discrepancy between theoretical and experimental values of the second feed and the specific gravity of the ridge ranges from 10 to 15 (%).

In a grain pile there is material other than grain including poisonous ergot sclerotia. Grain and sclerotia of ergot by linear dimensions and speed of soaring have similar characteristics. Complete separation of grain from ergot by these properties in a single process is impossible. Cleaning seeds from ergot sclerotia with the specific mass less than the specific mass of grain is possible in a salt solution. To mechanize the separation of ergot sclerotia from rye seeds by the wet method, there is an urgent need in the development of an appropriate device. Under study was an immersion in water (ρzh = 1.0∙103 kg/m3 ) and aqueous solutions of sodium chloride (NaCl) with a specific mass ρzh = 1.09∙103 and 1.15∙103 kg/m3 of individual rye grains with their specific mass ρz = 1.2...1.5∙103 kg/m3 , length lz = 5.0...10.0 10-3 m, width в = 1.4...3.6∙10-3 m and thickness δ = 1.2...3.5∙10-3 m. Theoretical studies were carried out on the basis of mathematical modeling methods using the laws of hydrodynamics, which were confirmed by experimental studies with winter rye grains of the Falenskaya 4 variety with a specific mass ρz = 1.1...1.3 103 kg/m3 , length lz = 5.0...8.0∙10-3 m, width в = 1.4...3.6∙10-3 m and thickness δ = 1.2...3.5∙10-3 m. It has been established that the calculated values of the immersion velocity of cylindrical kernels and spheroidal kernels in comparison with the experimental values in water (ρzh = 1.0∙103 kg/m3 ) is not more than 2%, and in aqueous solutions of sodium chloride (NaCl) the specific mass ρzh = 1.09∙103 and 1.15∙103 kg/m3 – 7 and 10%, respectively. This approach to determining the speed of immersion of grain in liquid can be used in the development of the machine for cleaning grain according to specific mass using wet method to substantiate its structural and technological parameters.

The work of multilayer glass structures for central and eccentric compression and bending are considered. The substantiation of the chosen research topic is made. The description and features of laminated glass for the structures investigated, their characteristics are presented. The analysis of the results obtained when testing for compression, compression with bending, simple bending of models of columns, beams, samples of laminated glass was made. Overview of the types and nature of destruction of the models are presented, diagrams of material operation are constructed, average values of the resistance of the cross-sections of samples are obtained, the table of destructive loads is generated. The need for development of a set of rules and guidelines for the design of glass structures, including laminated glass, for bearing elements, as well as standards for testing, rules for assessing the strength, stiffness, crack resistance and methods for determining the strength of control samples is emphasized. It is established that the strength properties of glass depend on the type of applied load and vary widely, and significantly lower than the corresponding normative values of the strength of heat-strengthened glass. The effect of the connecting polymeric material and manufacturing technology of laminated glass on the strength of the structure is also shown. The experimental values of the elastic modulus are different in different directions of the cross section and in the direction perpendicular to the glass layers are two times less than along the glass layers.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between individual and societal determinants of online privacy concern (OPC) and behavioral intention of internet users. The study also aims to assess the degree of reciprocity between consumers’ perceived benefits of using the internet and their OPC in the context of their decision-making process in the online environment. Design/methodology/approach The study proposes comprehensive model for analysis of antecedents and consequences of OPC. Empirical analysis is performed using the PLS–SEM approach on a representative sample of 2,060 internet users. Findings The findings show that computer anxiety and perceived quality of regulatory framework are significant antecedents of OPC, while traditional values and inclinations toward security, family and social order; and social trust are not. Furthermore, the study reveals that perceived benefits of using the internet are the predominant factor explaining the intention to share personal information and adopt new technologies, while OPC dominates in explanation of protective behavior. Research limitations/implications Although the authors tested an extended model, there might be other individual characteristics driving the level of OPC. This research covers just one country and further replications should be conducted to confirm findings in diverse socio-economic contexts. It is impossible to capture the real behavior with survey data, and experimental studies may be needed to verify the research model. Practical implications Managers should work toward maximizing perceived benefits of consumers’ online interaction with the company, while at the same time being transparent about the gathered data and their intended purpose. Considering the latter, companies should clearly communicate their compliance with the emerging new data protection regulation. Originality/value New extended model is developed and empirically tested, consolidating current different streams of research into one conceptual model.

In this research, first-principles calculations were carried out within the density functional theory (DFT) framework, using LDA and GGA, in order to study the structural, elastic, electronic and thermal properties of InAs in the zinc-blende structure. The results of the structural properties (a, B0, ) agree with the theoretical and experimental results reported by other authors. Additionally, the elastic properties, the elastic constants (C11, C12 and C44), the anisotropy coefficient (A) and the predicted speeds of the sound ( , , and ) are in agreement with the results reported by other authors. In contrast, the shear modulus (G), the Young's modulus (Y) and the Poisson's ratio (v) show some discrepancy with respect to the experimental values, although, the values obtained are reasonable. On the other hand, it is evident the tendency of the LDA and GGA approaches to underestimate the value of the band-gap energy in semiconductors. The thermal properties (V, , θD yCV) of InAs, calculated using the quasi-harmonic Debye model, are slightly sensitive as the temperature increases. According to the stability criteria and the negative value of the enthalpy of formation, InAs is mechanically and thermodynamically stable. Therefore, this work can be used as a future reference for theoretical and experimental studies based on InAs.

The development of new offshore oil and gas fields is continuously expanding to ultra-deep waters. This tendency and the necessity of reducing project costs have been stimulating the development of new technologies as well as the enhancement of floating production systems. In this regard, pipelines and flexible riser systems have been getting more attention due to its low cost of installation and operation. In order to project a pipeline system, it is important to understand the pipe-soil interaction mechanisms and quantify the influence of soil behaviour on pipe response caused by lateral movement such as thermal buckling. The loads that a pipeline is subjected have been a topic of many experimental studies that aim to reproduce those loads in a realistic manner. This present study concerns the analysis of lateral clay-pipe interaction associated with large deformations and berm formation process at the leading edge of the pipe during movement at given burial depths. A series of centrifuge tests was conducted to assess the relationship between horizontal force and lateral pipe displacement. The breakout force experimental results were compared with different literature proposals, showing a good agreement. A procedure was also proposed to evaluate the normalized lateral force through the combination of two different approaches. The results showed a good comparison with the centrifuge experimental data.

Experimental studies of plasma surface treatment processes of various materials are difficult since temperatures of the surface are more than 1500-3000 K, the speed of their change is high (104 K/s), the front of melting is moving. Theoretical researches of the thermal modes are necessary for conducting plasma processes in the best possible way. The use of analytical decisions at impulse thermal influence on the surface allows to calculate temperatures on the surfaces and in the mass of the material under almost any boundary conditions. The paper presents the results of calculation of various plasma processing at dielectric and steel materials (hardening, welding), as well as comparison of the obtained design parameters with experimental values.

Parasites have, over the centuries, been responsible for high mortalities among humans and domestic and wild animals. The presence of parasitic infections has made vast areas of the world uninhabitable for both humans and animals. Major strengths of Canadian parasitology include wildlife parasitology, systematics, and taxonomy. Experimental studies in parasitology are limited; in particular the subdisciplines of parasite molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, immunology, and neurobiology are very limited. There is concern that we will not be able to maintain the quality of Canadian research in parasitology, particularly in the emerging new technologies. It is greatly to the credit of those early Canadian parasitologists, who laid the foundations for today's advances in parasitology, that a relatively small group of approximately 100 professional parasitologists has today reached a very high standard of parasitological research. The next 25 years will be an exciting period as new insights allow us to further understand the complexity of host–parasite relationships. The development of new vaccines, drugs, and vector control point to significant reductions in parasitic infections.

Abstract The present paper deals with the experimental studies carried out on free vibration of isotropic and laminated composite skew plates. The natural frequencies were also determined using QUAD8 finite element of MSC/NASTRAN and a comparison was made between the experimental values and the finite element solution. The effects of the skew angle and aspect ratio on the natural frequencies of isotropic skew plates were studied. The effects of the skew angle, aspect ratio, fiber orientation angle and laminate sequence (keeping the number of layers constant) on the natural frequencies of antisymmetric composite laminates were also studied. The experimental values of natural frequencies are in good agreement with the FE solutions. The natural frequencies are found to increase with an increase in the skew angle. The variation of natural frequencies with the aspect ratio is small and negligible both for isotropic and laminated composite skew plates.

Viscosity is a major obstacle in the recovery of low API gravity oil resources from heavy oil and bitumen reservoirs. While thermal recovery is usually considered the most effective method for lowering viscosity, for some reservoirs introducing heat with commonly implemented thermal methods is not recommended. For these types of reservoirs, electromagnetic heating is the recommended solution. Electromagnetic heating targets part of the reservoir instead of heating the bulk of the reservoir, which means that the targeted area can be heated up more effectively and with lower heat losses than with other thermal methods. Electromagnetic heating is still relatively new and is not widely used as an alternate or addition to traditional thermal recovery methods. However, studies are being conducted and new technologies proposed that could help increase its use. Therefore, the objective of this study is to investigate the recovery of heavy oil and bitumen reservoirs by electromagnetic heating through the review of existing laboratory studies and field trials.

Reducing the energy consumption of the technological process of harvesting the main mass of chicory root buds is provided by developing, justifying the parameters and the use of advanced hooking modules. According to the results of field planned factor experiments, a regression equation is obtained, which characterizes the change in the cutting length of root heads from the initial speed of the knife, which is mounted rigidly on the pendulum of the copra at an angle to the direction of knife movement. The results of the study are the prerequisites for the development and improvement of methodology and methods of calculation and justification of rational structural and kinematic parameters of the working bodies of hook-harvesting modules of root-harvesting machines.Kеу wоrds: pendulum copier, hard knife, cutting length, knife speed, knife mounting angle, regression equation.
