These days, it is more and more often mentioned how strongly the person of the leader and the aptness and competence of the leadership influence the successfulness of the school in public education, and meanwhile we more and more often forget that the most important and most valuable segment of the school is in fact students. As a vocational school teacher, as well as a class-teacher, I have always focused on their interests, and have considered as a prime task to monitor and understand their behaviour and to follow their mental and intellectual development. In my examination, with the help of a so-called panel research, I asked 30 vocational secondary school students and 30 vocational technical school students about the following issues: self-evaluation of the examined student, the student’s experience on the educational attitudes of his/her own parents and the student’s experience on the teachers’ attitudes he/she meets the most often. After having the survey evaluated, I tried to find interconnections between the parents’ and the teachers’ attitudes and the student’s self-estimation, hoping that I would get a measurable proof of what attitudes have a positive influence on the students’ self-estimation and what have negative impacts. In case this is really measurable, we can apply more targeted educational methods to motivate the students and to develop a healthy self-image, and we can also gather information on the teachers’ attitudes exerting the most positive effects on the students’ self-estimation at the certain ages, which can help to organize the most effective teaching staff possible and the orientation of the teachers’ work.

The article deals with literary and artistic life at the Kremenets Ukrainian Gymnasium named after Ivan Steshenko. On the basis of archival materials the teaching staff of the educational institution, which functioned in the territory of the Second Rzeczpospolita, was studied. The author notes that the main component of state formation in the years of the Ukrainian People's Republic was the formation and development of Ukrainian national education and culture. The first step in implementing the national school reform was the creation of conditions for the introduction of the Ukrainian language in high school and the opening of new Ukrainian gymnasia. Numerous documents stored in the State Archives of the Ternopil region (351, «Private Ukrainian Gymnasium of Joint Training in Kremenets»), reveal the activity of the educational institution and confirm its prominent role in the educational life of the Ukrainian population of Kremenets. The researcher emphasizes the pedagogical skills of the teaching staff of the Kremenets Ukrainian Gymnasium, and the understanding of the important role of education in the process of preserving national dignity and spirituality contributed to the formation of students' professional and intellectual development. In its activity, the Ukrainian gymnasium has repeatedly faced difficulties: lack of funding, lack of premises adapted properly to educational needs, lack of appropriate material and technical base, but it became the center of high culture and education. The content of the first issue of the handwritten literary and artistic magazine "Youth" was analyzed, on the basis of the memoirs of the student of the gymnasium and the editor of the almanac U. Samchuk, the names of the members of the literary circle were established. The main aspects of the cultural-artistic collaboration of the teaching staff and the students' collectives of the gymnasium with Prosvita Society are revealed. The musical activity of high school students was traced and the programs of concert performances were explored. Based on the memories of former students of the gymnasium, the repertoire of the theater circle under the direction of G. Berezovsky was considered, and the study of high school students at the School of National Dances V. Avramenko was analyzed. The names of well-known writers and public figures who studied in the Ukrainian gymnasium were established.

The study was conducted as part of the monitoring of giftedness, organized by the City Resource Centre of Giftedness, Moscow State University of Psychology & Education, in 2012. One of the objectives of the study was the identification of gender-specific intelligence in high school students at different grade levels. The sample size was 2023 students of VI-X grades from 24 schools in Moscow, including 990 boys and 1033 girls. Intelligence was measured using Raven's "Standard Progressive Matrices Plus". It is shown that in VI-VIII grades, the percent of girls with "intelligence is clearly above average" is more, and with the "intelligence is clearly below average" is less than of boys, and the proportions of students of both sexes with average intelligence at this stage of training are almost identical. In IX and X grades, the differences in proportions were found. In general, girls also show significantly higher rates for subscales B, C and D and the total scale of the test than boys, and no differences were revealed in the subscales A and E. The tendency was shown of decreasing the differences with age: girls performed better on scales A and B in VI-IX grades (p < 0,01 and p < 0,05), on the scale of C and D in the VI-VII grades (p < 0,001 and p < 0,05). In grade X, no gender differences were shown. We statistically confirmed the trend of rising intelligence with age in both boys and girls. The consideration of these features is required in the school teacher working with the high school students.

The article is devoted to study the autobiographical heritage of archeology teachers at Kharkiv University during the second half of the XXth century. Different aspects of teaching this discipline on a historical faculty were characterized basically with the help of sources of a particular origin. The author notes that the second half of the XXth century was the new wave of teaching archeology at Kharkiv University. The teaching system of this science was formed and new teaching staff was gradually appeared. The evaluation of this work was marked by many people: from students to the relatives and was reflected in many memoirs. But the teachers’ self-evaluation of their work was rather important. Autobiographic articles, memories, diaries could be the sources for the investigation. It was mentioned that during the investigation the author faced with the selection of facts in memories and teachers’ ultra subjectivity of their self-evaluation. The article focuses special attention on the fact that teaching archeology in 50-60ss of the XXth century based on Marxist-Leninist ideology and the high ideological and theoretical level. It was done to support the image among university society which was inspired by those ideas. If the teacher hadn’t paid attention to “ youth education in the spirit of communism” and hadn’t taken part in cultural and public life of university, that would have been an obstacle for him to climb the “carrier ladder”. The author comes to the conclusion that teachers exaggerated their role in teaching for creating more positive self-image among university society. This fact gives an opportunity not to take their autobiographical materials as objective sources of information.

The research aims to analyze comprehensive assessment and its relationship with student learning in a particular educational unit in the city of Portoviejo. The applied methodology has a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative), an exploratory research was carried out to analyze the problem. The research techniques used were the survey of the teaching staff of the institution and the academic averages of the elementary school students. The results reflected that in the institution the comprehensive evaluation is partially applied, which is reflected in an acceptable academic performance. It was concluded that teachers apply evaluative instruments as they deem necessary, there is no homogeneity between hetero-evaluation, co-evaluation and self-evaluation.

Summary The German Pupils Academy (Deutsche Schüler-Akademie) is a summer-school program for highly gifted secondary-school students. Three types of program evaluation were conducted. Input evaluation confirmed the participants as intellectually highly gifted students who are intrinsically motivated and interested to attend the courses offered at the summer school. Process evaluation focused on the courses attended by the participants as the most important component of the program. Accordingly, the instructional approaches meet the needs of highly gifted students for self-regulated and discovery oriented learning. The product or impact evaluation was based on a multivariate social-cognitive framework. The findings indicate that the program contributes to promoting motivational and cognitive prerequisites for transforming giftedness into excellent performances. To some extent, the positive effects on students' self-efficacy and self-regulatory strategies are due to qualities of the learning environments established by the courses.

Abstract. This study investigated the effects of politicians’ nonparticipatory and participatory Facebook posts on young people’s political efficacy – a key determinant of political participation. We employed an experimental design, using a sample of N = 125 high school students (15–20 years). Participants either saw a Facebook profile with no posts (control condition), nonparticipatory posts, or participatory posts. While nonparticipatory posts did not affect participants’ political efficacy, participatory posts exerted distinct effects. For those high in trait evaluations of the politician presented in the stimulus material or low in political cynicism, we found significant positive effects on external and collective efficacy. By contrast, for those low in trait evaluations or high in cynicism, we found significant negative effects on external and collective efficacy. We did not find any effects on internal efficacy. The importance of content-specific factors and individual predispositions in assessing the influence of social media use on participation is discussed.

The objective of this study is to analyze the determinants of Brazilian exports by levels of technological intensity in the period 2000-2015. Gravity models were estimated for total of the exports and for each type of exports by levels of technological intensity, using the PPML-estimator. The study indicates that there is a process of concentration of Brazilian exports in low technology and medium-low technology products, at the same period in which China's share of total Brazilian shipments abroad grew. Estimates of empirical gravity models have shown that the income and size of the consumer market of Brazil’s trading partners seem to have the greatest positive influence on the Brazilian exports. Indications of this study are that the Brazil should continue to diversify its trading partners to minimize the impacts of a possible reduction of the economic growth of large trading partners (such as China and the US) on its exports and increase its exports of products with greater technological intensity. The results also highlight the need for Brazil to make greater efforts to increase its competitiveness in the international market to reduce the negative impacts of transport costs on the final prices of products exported by the country.

The problem of introducing distance learning in primary school is actualized by the development of social networks and Internet technologies, which open unlimited horizons for their application in educational activities. In addition, the introduction of quarantine in Ukraine requires primary school teachers to find ways to effectively master the program material. Among such ways is distance learning. The purpose of the study is to substantiate the specifics and possibilities of organizing the educational process in primary school with the use of distance learning. In the process of scientific research methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization and systematization were used. Distance learning in primary school is defined as a form of organization and implementation of the educational process, in which the subjects of learning (teachers and students) in the online mode carry out educational interaction in principle and mainly extraterritorially. In the context of reforming modern Ukrainian education, a number of e-platforms have been created for the organization of distance learning for primary school students. An effective commercial platform for distance learning is the service "My Class", which contains online courses from 1st to 11th grade, which contain lessons that integrate theoretical (test presentation of content) and practical (individual tasks that can be solved independently of each other, a block of tasks that need to be solved sequentially, guidelines) blocks. Result. Emphasis is placed on the requirements to be met by a primary school teacher when organizing distance learning in primary school during the quarantine period and it is suggested to advise parents who will work remotely with junior students in the initial stages of distance learning, gradually transferring activity to children.

It seems that educational system in Nigeria has undergone only quantitative improvement in terms of number of schools and students’ enrolment. However, there has been little effort in respect to the capacity to manage them through provisions of adequate financial, human, material and physical resources. Physical and material resources in secondary schools were discovered to be inadequate and poorly equipped. Some of the secondary school buildings were dilapidated, also the allocated financial resource, teaching and non-teaching staff are grossly inadequate compared with the students’ enrolment. The public, the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in education are expressing serious concern about the consistency of the poor performance of secondary school students especially in mathematics. Increase in population and the government’s free education programs make people want to take advantage of the education provided. Provision of both professionally qualified and non-qualified teachers by government and non-state providers of education also appear not to ameliorate the problem of declining performances in mathematics. The effect of all these on the public secondary school student academic performance in mathematics concern the researchers of this study. It is against this background that the study sought to empirically investigates effect of resource factors and quality of instruction on performance in mathematics of Nigeria secondary school students.
