Due to the continuous development of the building-and-construction industry, it is necessary to design new or modify outmoded industrial equipment. Using jaw crushers with the impact action of crushing plates on material is a perspective line of developing crushing equipment. Purpose. Developing a mathematical model of a vibratory jaw crusher and studying the operational process which is based on the mathematical model in order to design new crushers. Methodology. Definition of the crusher working process is based on the main statements of the theory of mechanical oscillations and the theory of continuous environment. In the motion equations of the crusher the material is taken into account on the basis of a discrete model by a continual parameter. Findings. A physical model is developed on the basis of which motion equations are derived, which include three main conditions of the efficient operation: 1) the elasticity of the second vibrating element must exceed or be equal to crushing force; 2) vibrations of the first and the third vibrating elements must be in phase, and vibrations of the second vibrating element must be in antiphase; 3) the summarized displacement of the second and the third crushing plates must ensure crushing of material. Graphs of the effect of the vibrating elements and elasticity coefficients of elastic systems on the amplitudes of vibrations are plotted and analyzed. On the basis of the motion equations, with consideration for the optimal parameters of the crusher vibrating elements and for the elasticity coefficients of the elastic systems, the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the crusher for different frequency ranges are determined. Set up is an equation describing the displacement of material in the crushing chamber for a time interval required for the crushing plates to be separated. Presented are graphs of dependency of the amplitude of vertical vibrations of the crusher casing on the elasticity of the isolating elastic system, and provided are recommendations for selecting and calculating vibration isolation. Originality. A mathematical model of an experimental vibratory jaw crusher and the characteristics of the experimental crusher are presented, on the basis of which recommendations are given for the selection of energy-efficient operating modes of the crusher. Practical value. Knowledge on the rational values of the frequency ranges for operation of the studied vibratory jaw crusher makes it possible to determine the optimal level of power consumed by the crusher and efficiency in processing materials of different hardness.

Purpose. The article describes methodology for conducting research on parameters of compression foam cooling during its delivery through hose-pump systems depending on the operating modes of the foam generating installation. The impact of mass consumption of compression foam on its cooling at low temperatures has been examined. The application of a mathematical model of air-foam mixture movement in hose-pump systems at different temperature modes has been substantiated. Methods. Empirical method-experiment has been used for research. Findings. A number of experiments have been carried out to confirm the developed model of compression foam moving in hose-pump systems at different temperature modes. A mobile installation for generating and delivering compression foam has been used as the object of the research. Inaccuracy in calculations obtained with the help of a mathematical model in comparison with the experimental data is 10% which makes a possible to claim that the model of compression foam moving in hose-pump systems at different temperature modes has been chosen properly. Research application field. According to the obtained data, it is possible to plan means and forces of fire units for extinguishing fires using compression foam at low temperatures. Conclusions. The developed mathematical model of compression foam movement during its delivery through hose-pump systems is confirmed by experimental data. The dependence of mass consumption impact on compression foam cooling when it is delivered through fire hoses at low temperatures has been obtained experimentally.

It is shown that the problem of improving the effectiveness of prevention of emergencies related to the underwater location of explosive objects is relevant. An important and unresolved part of the problem is the lack of a mathematical model of the emergency response process associated with the underwater location of an explosive device in general. Based on this, the object of the study was the elimination of an emergency situation related to the underwater location of explosive objects, and the subject of the study – the process of operational activities of personnel of the underwater demining department of a group of special diving rescue team. The aim of the work is to develop a mathematical model of the emergency response process related to the underwater location of an explosive object as a process of functioning of the system "emergency – special means of underwater demining – diver-sapper", which should be the basis for substantiation of operational and technical recommendations. increasing the efficiency of underwater demining by diver sappers without reducing their level of safety. It is shown that the mathematical model of underwater demining by a diver-sapper is a system of three analytical dependences. The first is a functional that describes the process of underwater demining in the form of a three-factor polynomial model. The second allows us to present this functionality as a set of one-factor models. The third provides the definition of weights in solving a multifactor problem. It is noted that such a model allows to proceed to the substantiation of operational and technical recommendations to the management of the group of special diving works. The advantage of the new scientific result is the ability to obtain both quantitative estimates of the impact of the direct components of the system "diver-sapper – special means of underwater demining – underwater location of an explosive object" and their relationship. The disadvantage is the large number of experimental results that must be obtained to implement the selected plan.

A model of a vibrating jaw crusher (VJC) with self-synchronizing unbalanced vibration exciters is considered with account of the impacts between the jaws and the material being processed. Numerical modeling is used to establish the influence of the initial gap between the jaws and the material and of the velocity recovery factor upon impact on the synchronization of vibration exciters rotation and jaw vibrations, on the excitation frequency ranges of stable periodic vibroimpact regimes, and on the impact velocities between the jaws. The analysis results indicate that a change in the conditions of contact between the jaws and the material being processed leads to a change in the frequency ranges of the stable antiphase synchronization of vibration exciters rotation, as well as in the excitation frequency ranges of steady single-period vibroimpact regimes for the motion of the system, considered as the main operating modes of the VJC. The impact-like nature of the interaction between the jaws and the material being processed suggests the possible multimodality of the system, which explains some of the effects observed in practice and manifested in changes in the periodicity of the vibroimpact regime and in the vibration mode of the jaws at a constant excitation frequency. Therefore, the vibroimpact-based model proposed for the VJC and its dynamics analysis results may be used to design and improve vibrating jaw crushers with the selection of reasonable design parameters and the most effective vibration excitation conditions. The work was carried out with the financial support of the RFBR, project No. 18-08-01491_a.

Opening ParagraphLike most southern Ghanian populations, the Abutia Ewe – one of the numerous ‘village leagues’ which compose the northern part of Eweland (Volta region)– have experienced far-reaching transformations in the last century, and nowhere more radically than in their matrimonial practices. In this article, I wish to concentrate on two aspects of these practices, namely the definition of marriage and the incidence of divorce.Indeed, an adequate analysis of divorce requires some heuristic tools which enable us to decide whether particular couples are ‘married’ or not, a procedure made extremely difficult in the case of Abutia because of the changes in their definition of marriage. In the first part of the article, I shall briefly survey these changes and discuss the definitional problems they raise and, in the second, present the main findings of a quantitative survey which helps to measure the impact of the changes discussed. It also reveals that divorce was in fact common before 1890, when German colonial rule was imposed. In the third and last part I seek to explain this marital instability in ‘pre-colonial’ Abutia.

Ecological modeling has been used as a tool to estimate potential impacts caused by aquaculture to the surrounding environment. In this work, a mathematical model was applied to estimate the maximum amount of pink shrimp (Farfantepenaeus paulensis) culture units (3,100m2 pen enclosures) that could be installed at two shallow estuarine bays of Patos Lagoon (known as Coreia and Porto do Rei) with no significant effects on either water quality or viability of the culture system. To calibrate the model, information about the culture of Litopenaeus vannamei and F. paulensis as well as field data (influence of netting material, water current speed and nitrogen concentrations) were used. Under a bad scenario (water current velocity of 0.01m s–1 and a mesh clogging effect of 40%), it would be possible to install up to 29 pens at the Coreia bay, and 39 pens at the Porto do Rei bay. Results indicate that the model was useful in determining the maximum number of culture units that could be installed at these bays, and thus have the potential to become an important tool in the definition of environmental management strategies in relation to aquaculture development.

On the basis of theoretical and practical studies of the electromechanical system, the scientific and technical problem of improving the control system of the electromechanical system during the impact on it of multi-vector perturbations is solved. The result of the study is the integration of differential equations with coefficients dependent on the oscillations of the control object. In the theoretical part, the mathematical model of the electromechanical system was synthesized, which made it possible to investigate ways of minimizing the deviation angles and time intervals required to stabilize the motion of the electromechanical system, which allowed indirectly to realize the associated signal with the stochastic nature of the moment of oscillation of the control object on the coordinate plane. The method of parametric optimization of the mathematical model of the electromechanical system in the function of the angle of inclination is also improved and investigated. Based on the definition of the structure and algorithms of work, the efficiency of the control system of the electromechanical system increases in terms of reducing the stabilization time of the control object.

The questions addressed are : what do we know, in the current state of knowledge, happiness, and its importance for human development, global and individual ? Can you outline a general approach ? How this approach is essential to determine our goals, social and individual ? To answer these questions the methodology of this article consists, firstly, to present the main empirical results on the subject. Many databases have emerged : the NBB, the World Database of Happiness, IBM, HDI and many others. Investigations have provided the opportunity to work on large amounts of data on the level of happiness felt by the population, and its causes. They complement, but lead ultimately to results often close. The second part analyzes the relevance and limitations of these investigations, in order to more precisely the emergence of a definition of happiness and its components. The purpose of the third part is to define the economic significance of these results. Indeed, many economic theories are based on a vision of happiness underlying, whatsoever for example in the calculation of individual productivity (efficiency wage theory), or in determining the choice (bounded rationality)… We conclude this work by a simple model of the impact of happiness in our choices.
