Objective: to investigate the meanings of adolescents about pregnancy. Method: qualitative study of ethnographic aspect, performed with eight pregnant teenagers. The data collection technique was the narrative interview, which was subjected to thematic analysis, and drawing as a complementary technique. The study was initiated after approval by the Ethics Committee with CAAE number 00554512.0.0000.5346. Results: the use of the drawing produced meanings of the bodily changes, which were of reflection about their silhouette, timidity in representing themselves in a drawing and satisfaction with the corporal alterations caused by the pregnancy. In the representations, they were alone, only one included the partner. Conclusion: the drawing allows a more communicative and participatory position during the interviews. Thereby, it recognizes the relevance of using this technique in data collection work with anthropological approach.

The aim of this article is to analyze the fears about menstruation and health that have been passed down to us by oral transmission from a gender perspective. A qualitative study, whose design was the Grounded Theory, performed in Seville, Spain, with 24 rural and urban women from different generations, young (18-25, 26-35 years), middle aged (36-45, 46-55, 56-65 years) and elderly (> 65 years). The semi-structured interview was used as a data collection technique. The discourses were subjected to content analysis, following the steps of Grounded Theory. The results highlight the abundant fears related to use of water during menstruation, with very harmful effects to health. As a conclusion to highlight the lack of women's knowledge about reproductive health and that despite Health Education campaigns there are still ancient misconceptions present about menstruation.

In this article, we report on the innovative research design and results of a course-based qualitative inquiry into child and youth care (CYC) students' experiences of maintaining a relational-centered practice stance while in a power-over position of authority. Qualitative data from two semi-structured focus groups as well as an arts-based data collection technique were analyzed using the thematic analysis method. The following four major themes were identified from the analyses: (a) “self-awareness is key,” (b) “the mediating power of a positive trusting relationship,” (c) “the vital importance of emotional safety,” and (d) “it’s a two-way street.” The results of this course-based study revealed that, although CYC students are committed to practicing relationally, the dynamics of being in a position of power-over authority are complex and challenging to navigate.

Abstract Background: Opiate use disorders are a worldwide disease. In the last 30 years, opiate maintenance treatment prescription changed patients’ and also changed physicians’ practice. General practitioners (GPs) have to deal with patients on OMT who are in acute pain. Both clinically and pharmacologically, the treatment of acute pain in patients with an opiate use disorder and an OMT(opiate maintenance treatment) differs from that given to patients with other conditions. As this situation is complex, it was important to explore whether GPs recognised this problem and whether they managed it effectively. Objective: To investigate how GPs identify and manage situations of acute pain in patients with opiate use disorders and OMT. Methods: semi-structured interviews were used as a data collection technique with a purposive sample of practising GPs. Data collection continued until saturation was reached. Analysis was undertaken using a thematic analysis method. Two independent researchers, working blind and pooling data, carried out the analysis. Results: The maximal variation of the sample and saturation of data were reached with 11 GPs. The thematic analysis resulted in 4 main themes: (1) the importance and difficulties of professional links , (2) the specific clinical reasoning , (3) the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and (4) the particular characteristics of OMT patients. Conclusion: The complexity of pain and opioid dependence represents significant challenges for GPs. It is hard to achieve a balance between pain relief and opiate use disorder treatment. These questions are particularly important in general practice, where the practitioner may feel insufficiently trained, and isolated. Existing protocols do not seem to be in line with general practice. The number of patients on OMT has increased since it was first marketed; GPs will increasingly have to deal with these situations and will have to issue their own recommendations.

Mining communities throughout the Southern African Development Community are faced with numerous challenges impacting on their wellbeing. As part of an integrative multidisciplinary research project, this study sought to explore aspects that affect community wellbeing in the informal Bekkersdal mining community in South Africa from the perspective of local community caregivers. An explorative-descriptive qualitative study including 22 mainly female (91%) participants who were purposively sampled was conducted. As part of data collection, participants answered a series of open-ended questions in a questionnaire and kept journals. Thematic analysis was used to analyze that data. The results indicate aspects that either promote (contribute to) or hinder community wellbeing.

The use of fake dental braces provided by bogus dentists is potentially dangerous to users' oral health. However, many people, especially youths, still fancy the use of these fake braces. This study aimed to explore the experience of youths from Klang Valley on the use of fake braces. This qualitative study used the phenomenological approach by interviewing ten youths aged between 16 - 27 years old who were from Klang Valley and wore fake braces. The tenth respondent formed the point of saturation of information in data collection. Semi-structured interviews were conducted to explore their experience in using fake braces. The interviews were conducted on the phone. Each interview lasted for a period of 10-15 minutes, and the conversations were recorded. The recordings were then transcribed verbatim, and thematic analysis of the content was used to develop the conceptual framework. Five major themes were discerned related to the respondents' views on the use of fake braces: a) physical appearance of teeth, b) influencing factors, c) seeking services of bogus dentists, d) procedures performed, and e) outcome of fake braces services. For youths with physical misalignment of teeth, fake braces are enticing due to the accessibility, availability, and affordability of bogus dentists. However, not all outcomes were perceived as favourable. Some perceived no change in the outcome, whilst most felt that fake braces led to worse consequences. This study's findings can provide the content for developing oral health promotion modules to check this unsafe practice.

ABSTRACT Objective: To understand the nurses’ moral deliberation in the face of an ethical problem involving breastfeeding. Method: Qualitative study based on the methodological theoretical framework of deliberative bioethics. Data collection was through a vignette-based interview and results were organized by thematic analysis. Results: Nurses tend to take over intermediate courses of action, although extreme courses of action are found as well. Final considerations: When they tend to take extreme courses of action, nurses approach decisions focused on the child welfare to the detriment of the mother’s need as a working woman.

Abstract Authentic leadership has been prominent in research of organizational behavior since the beginning of this century. This study aimed to investigate the congruence between the theory of authentic leadership, in the form as condensed by some scholars of the area, and the discourse of the contemporary Brazilian leader. Ten professionals with experience in leadership positions participated. This is a qualitative study that used a structured interview for data collection and theoretical thematic analysis for the treatment of the data. The testimonies allowed to discriminate typical discourses of authentic and non-authentic leaders in a congruent way to the theory, regarding the definitions of the components of authentic leadership. We concluded that the findings contribute to the evolution of the construct and provide insights for the continuity of research in the area, suggesting a focus on longitudinal studies.
