Various environmental problems that have occurred lately are more or less caused by the problem of garbage and waste from various activities of living things, especially humans. Therefore, good waste management is one of the solutions to current environmental problems. One of the main problems faced by partners is plastic waste management. Based on a preliminary field study conducted by the team, it was found that until now there had been no waste management activities carried out by the residents of Baros Village, both plastic waste management related to waste banks and plastic waste sorting. In this regard, one of the innovative solutions for plastic waste management is to apply the circular economy principle by sorting plastic waste and then managing and developing it to create a circular economy, which is recycling plastic waste into a product of economic value, so that can help people's economic life. In this case, through a circular economy approach, karang taruna gets socialization of a circular economy as a foundation in managing plastic waste. The activity began with coordination with officials in Baros Village and the board of the Setia Youth Organization, pretest, counseling, and continued with a posttest. The implementation of outreach activities is carried out online and only involves the karang taruna administrators due to the COVID-19 pandemic condition. From the results of the activities carried out, members of the karang taruna understand the importance of managing plastic waste to make it a commodity with economic value.

Most of the people at Ciaruteun Ilir Village, Cibungbulang Subdistrict, Bogor District are trashing the river. Population growth and consumption pattern change causes the volume, type, and characteristics of existing waste is increasing, especially household waste. Beside from households, there are also a lot of garbage has coming from the agricultural sectors. The main factors causing the community dispose garbage into the river is the unavailability of landfills, awareness and knowledge of the community related to waste management and utilization is still quite low. Seeing these conditions, the team through the Student Creativity Program for Community Service educate how about the management and utilization of waste named enviro school. Enviro school aims to shape the caring behavior of environmental community through environmental education start from an early age, grouping garbage independently, forming the institution of trash bank, and creating creative products from waste through the creation of vermicompost institutions and handicrafts with functional and economic value with target adult people on Ciaruteun Ilir Village RT 05/03. Enviro school has methods through 7 classes, it is pre class, first class, class, green class, brown class, white class, and enviroducation fair. Based on pre test results conducted at the beginning of the program, only 30.90% of people understand the concept of waste management and utulization, then an increase after four months running through the post test of 92.69%. Successfully this program visible from the increased awareness and knowledge about management and utulization of waste, the establishment of enviro trash bank as a structural institution for waste management, increased youth skills in the utilization of organic waste become vermicompost, and increasing skills of mothers in the utilization of anorganic waste.

Plastic waste pollution in marine environments is considered a major environmental problem in coastal areas. Relative environmental problems are also recorded in protected wetlands. The National Park of Amvrakikos Wetlands, one of the largest wetlands of Greece, is studied in order to evaluate the influence of plastic waste in the protected area and its surroundings, according to the stakeholders’ views. The survey applied using the method of census addressing the key stakeholders in the area of interest and the use of a questionnaire; the data analyzed with the Statistical Package SSPS. The main findings reveal that waste management is not considered satisfactory in the broader area. Marine litter, pollution, overfishing, ecosystem degradation, agriculture and livestock activities, as well as the insufficiency of the municipal solid waste management and recycling system are listed as the most important environmental problems of the coastal area. The stakeholders’ participation is regarded as crucial for effective decision making. Therefore, special strategies should be designed involving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to widely address the local communities and increase their awareness on the problem in order to reduce plastic waste pollution. It should be noted that environmental conditions are closely affiliated with the citizens’ quality of life.

With an increasing use of plastic, considerable plastic waste is generated, threatening the environment and public health. In particular, changes in living patterns in urban areas have significantly impacted the rate at which plastic waste increases every year. Thus, governments in many developed countries have implemented numerous policies to reduce plastic waste generation. Among them is the concept of circular economy that aims to protect the environment from plastic pollution and promote growth and innovation in industry and human life through overall changes in designing, producing, using, and recycling plastic products. The Korean government has implemented the Resource Circulation Act (RCA), which includes the concept of circular economy and resource efficiency policy for overall waste management. Following the concept of RCA, the Plastic Waste Control Plan (PWCP) was established for the comprehensive management of plastic waste. Therefore, this study introduces the goals and strategies of PWCP, which has a circulation system of four stages of production, consumption, discharge, and recycling, as well as the major roadblocks in the stages impeding the achievement of the goals and strategies. This study also suggests countermeasures at the government level for solving the major problems in the four stages.

One of the growing industries in Indonesia is the woodworking industry. Wood waste is waste or parts of the wood that no longer has economic value but may still be used at different processes and times. The woodworking industry produces wood waste in 22% wood scraps, 8% wood chips, and 10% sawdust. The fundamental problem in the woodworking industry at Sindangmekar Village was the lack of understanding and practice in wood waste management. Through the socialization of wood waste management as planting media, community service aims to increase knowledge regarding wood waste management. In addition, it can improve practice to manage sawdust as a planting media. Furthermore, it has economic value and becomes one of the solutions to financial problems during the COVID-19 pandemic. The socialization presented materials related to wood waste management and practiced making planting media from sawdust. Thirty participants attended this activity. There was a significant increase in pre-and post-test scores after socialization. In conclusion, socialization regarding wood waste management increases knowledge levels in wood artisans and youth alliance at Sindangmekar Village. In addition, participants can manage wood sawdust as a planting medium. As a result, it can increase the selling value of wood waste, and the surrounding environment becomes clean and healthy.

Plastics are used worldwide due to the low price, lightweight, and long-lasting availability. It can be molded into different products. Therefore, the invention of plastics has been increased significantly over the last 50-60 years. Several environmental problems are generating due to plastics used across the world. This kind of observation indicates that plastics are not sustainable. It is accumulating in landfills and natural locales due to the stability of the polymers involved. This chapter discusses the structure and uses of plastics. Plastics recycling is a very challenging duty in waste management. This chapter explores the factors affecting the plastic recycling in detail. This chapter also explores the plastic recycling methods and challenges during plastic recycling and deliberates more briefly how the government sector is working to clean most of the plastic waste from landfills to recycling over the next periods. In the last, this chapter highlights the plastic effects on the environment and how we can use again through recycling.

The management of used goods needs to be improved in order to reduce pollution and contamination. The largest source of waste comes from settlements, which 75% consists of organic waste and only 25% inorganic waste. Inorganic waste management is still very minimal. Inorganic waste is very difficult to degrade and cannot even be degraded at all naturally, therefore a very large area is needed to compensate for the production of this type of waste. One of the most common inorganic waste found in the community is a plastic straw. Plastic straws are a drinking aid that is only used occasionally and in turn, increases the amount of waste available. Plastic straw waste in Singkawang City is one of the elements causing pollution that is not easily broken down because it is made of inorganic plastic. Plastic straw waste in Indonesia reaches more than 93.2 million per day, because of its large potential, it would be better if this plastic waste is used as a product and creativity in order to organize plastic waste properly, so that plastic really supports people's economic life community.

Waste management in Indonesia is still a problem that can not be handled properly. Waste reduction activities both in the community as waste producers and at the level of the area is still small, so the waste is disposed to the final processing place (TPA) while the landfill is very limited. Plastic waste is a waste that needs to be handled properly, because plastic waste is a waste that can not be broken down by microorganisms. Plastic waste can last for years causing environmental pollution. The design of a portable plastic waste counter machine aims to create a waste recycling tool, so that waste can be recycled into useful items and and create an environmental balance. To focus the manufacture of this crusher, the manufacture is limited to making non-organic waste composting machine design that is plastic waste. The design results are expected to be applied properly and can destroy the waste into granules so it can be reprocessed. The hope of this recycling process is to reduce the amount of plastic waste and make it an item that has economic value.
