With the increasing awareness of environmental protection, Green Velvet Material (PLON), a renewable and environmentally friendly material, has been widely applied to mattresses. In order to improve the compressive properties of PLON, a series of experiments were carried out with special attention given to the compression deformation characteristics, support performance of the PLON blocks and its effective application in mattress products. The results are: (1) Average slopes of the load-deformation curves’ two phases are represented by K1 and K2, respectively. K1 is more sensitive to density changes that range from 30 kg/m3 to 50 kg/m3, while K2 is sensitive to density changes that range from 20 kg/m3 to 50 kg/m3. Their values increase with the rise of density; (2) 25% IFD, 40% IFD, 65% IFD, SF and IHF values are sensitive to density changes and they significantly increase with the rise of density. PLON blocks have excellent supporting properties and are considered to be comfortable according to American FPF Test Standard (ASTM-D3574-B1) when used in mattress bedding; (3) a PLON block density of 30 kg/m3 is preferentially selected for the softer type of mattress, while a PLON block density of 40 kg/m3 is preferentially selected for the harder type of mattress. The compression deformation characteristics and support performance of the PLON blocks were analyzed and the effective application of PLON in mattress products was explored through the above research.

Environmentally friendly mosquitoes trap using common daily materials used by community may give hopes in reducing mosquitoes density. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of environmentally friendly mosquitoes trap made from bottle contained sugar yeast solution for reducing the number of trapped mosquitoes. This study consist of two phases and quasi experimental design was used. Mann Whitney test was used to determine the differences the number of trapped mosquitoes indoor and outdoor. The result showed p value 0,000 which was lower than ? value (0,05), so there was significant difference between the number of indoor and outdoor trapped mosquitoes. The average Rank score of outdoor mosquitoes trap (42,75) was more than indoor mosquitoes trap (18,25). We concluded that the mosquitoes trapped which contained of sugar-yeast solution was effective for trapping the mosquitoes especially outdoor .

Energy consumption has been identified as one of the key research challenges during recent time in Cloud computing. Proper placement of Virtual Machines (VMs) on servers may address the issue. The process of placing VMs on servers can be divided into two phases viz. (a) Mapping of VMs on servers during the phase and (b) subsequent VM selection, migration and placement during consolidation phase. If the initial mapping is not efficient, subsequent operations may lead to unnecessary VM migrations, which in turn, may result into increase in migration cost and increase in SLA violations. In this research, the authors aim to improve the resource utilization to address these issues by keeping (i) the number of live server as minimal as possible for achieving energy efficiency, and (ii) the live server, as busy as possible by efficiently utilizing them. The authors conducted series of experiments with existing default technique and various other approaches. The results of our experiments make us conclude that there is a scope of improvement in the default mapping technique currently being used in CloudSim.

The menisci are anisotropic hydrated connective tissues, situated in the tibiofemoral joint. The menisci transmit approximately 50% of the load across this joint [1, 2]. In this tissue, compression would only be experienced in the axial (vertical) direction, and as such, many studies have tested samples in the axial direction to determine the compressive properties [3–5]. The material behaviour of the menisci has been described as biphasic, meaning the response of the tissue to applied load is time dependent and determined by both the solid constituents and their interaction with the fluid component [3]. Due to the low permeability of the tissue, deformation results in relative movement of the solid matrix and the fluid it contains, resulting in the creation of drag forces between the two phases. Fluid exudation from the matrix governs the viscoelastic behaviour of the tissue, including stress relaxation and creep [6]. The swelling behaviour of meniscal samples in varying osmotic environments was evaluated in our lab (unpublished data), where they swelled significantly, approximately 30% volumetrically in iso-osmotic phosphate buffered saline (PBS). It was hypothesized that the material properties of the tissue would be affected by this significant swelling. To date, no study has evaluated the effect of sample swelling, due to sample preparation and storage, on the behaviour of the menisci in compression. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate this relationship. We hypothesized that meniscal samples would be less stiff and more permeable in a swollen state than when they are compressed to the ‘fresh’, non-swollen, thickness prior to initiation of the protocol.

Coarse-grained soil is widely used in railway construction, and it is of great significance to take research on how compression deformation characteristics affect deformation of coarse-grained soil in high filled subgrade. To analyze compression deformation characteristics of coarse-grained soil under different moisture content and different grain compositions conditions, influence pattern of moisture content and grain compositions was researched through uniaxial compression test. The result indicates that compressive deformation is in logarithm relation with time; moisture content and grain compositions are important factors that affect the characteristics of compressive deformation of sandy slate coarse-grained soil and it is better to control subgrade settlement with dry or saturated coarse-grained soil which contains 70% coarse particles.

This case study explores the unique challenges confronting a small-sized Hong Kong enterprise in the wake of the "Green Revolution". The founder Mr. Peter Chan, possessed of a zest to protect the natural environment, sought to combine profit for the company with environmental protection. The science and technology behind the development of PestControl®, an organic and environmentally friendly pesticide, was clearly superior to that of its closest competition. However, despite an impressive growth rate in the 1990s, Chan was concerned about his firm's ability to sustain growth. The case is a classic example of entrepreneurship fighting for survival in a rapidly changing society.
