In the beginning was metamorphosis. This paradoxical thought, which the ancient Roman poet Ovidius and modern author Franz Kafka represented in their literary works, is visualized in Koji Yamamura’s short animation Franz Kafka’s A Country Doctor. Diverse metamorphoses that do and do not appear in the Kafka original are so elaborately and dynamically depicted in this animation that no live-action film could possibly represent them. In addition, the film itself can be seen as a metamorphosis, as it is an animation converted from a short story. Such a dominance of metamorphosis is also true for the transculturality and transnationalism of Yamamura’s animation. In a sense, the film results from a cultural integration of foreign language and image. However, this integration is also part of the swirl of metamorphosis. The traditional performance art Kyogen, which the director uses to voice the main characters in the animation, could not integrate foreign culture without its own diversification. Yamamura’s animation demonstrates that transculturality is another name for fundamental metamorphosis in which diversification and integration occur simultaneously.

The article considers integrative activities as a guarantee of the development of cognitivecommunicative foreign-language activities of preschoolers. The integration of the content of preschool education, as you know, is one of the pedagogical conditions for “improving the development of the emotional and intellectual sphere of the child’s personality. The child’s educational activity in mastering a foreign language requires new achievements in the development of cognitive functions: speech, attention,imagination and thinking; creates new conditions for the personal formation of the child, through co-study of a foreign language and a foreign culture, and by reconceptualization of a different picture of the world of secondary formation cognitive and linguistic consciousness. Of particular importance in solving the problem of the humanization of preschool education are the tasks and functions of a preschool institution, based on the attitude to preschool age as a unique period of a person’s life, since it is during this period that ideas about the world are formed, and the child’s personality develops intensively.

This case study explores cultural and contextual affordances in language massive open online courses (LMOOCs), especially the extent to which an LMOOC effectively promotes optimal language learning. Participants included 15 language student teachers of English as a second or foreign language in a spring technology elective course at a private university on the East Coast. Student teachers enrolled in language MOOCs and tracked and evaluated their learning process and progress through weekly logs and surveys. Data was collected from weekly reflection logs and pre- and post-surveys. Results indicate that the cultural affordances were more salient in the advanced Spanish MOOC and the Hindi MOOC, while in the beginning-level LMOOCs, contextual factors were lacking overall.

The article discusses the creation of a qualitatively new educational system in intercultural business communication, capable of providing real interaction between specialists in the global cultural space. Under the current conditions of expanding international cooperation, the humanities specialist must speak a foreign language at a fundamentally new level as an instrument of professional intercultural communicative competence. The aforesaid determines the existence of contradictions between the provisions developed in linguistics and linguistic didactics concerning the theory of intercultural communication and methods of teaching foreign students the Business Russian Language and the lack of their integration and extrapolation in the training of foreign students for interaction in the business sphere of communication. The question of interest is what happens to a linguistic personality when it enters a "foreign" environment undergoing the processes of cognitive consciousness transformation. Based on the studies of the cultural synergy model in the formation of intercultural communicative competence of foreign citizens in business communication, it is concluded that the possession of a foreign-language code that allows a successful intercultural professional interaction requires knowledge of a “foreign” culture and determines the specifics of the social and business behavior of the speakers of this culture. In the “native" culture, a linguistic personality assimilates language through reality, and in a "foreign” culture, the reality is assimilated through language. In this case, the interaction process of communication participants is considered as a complex synergetic system, in which the traditions accepted in the native culture are neutralized and the traditions accepted in the culture of business partners are updated.

The integration of technology in education is generally assumed to aid learning. The primary purpose of this study was to capture the complexity of the process of incorporating the use of new technologies in an advanced foreign language (FL) course. The study provides a detailed description of the activity in which the participants engaged to acquire cultural knowledge through the use of the Internet. It also examines how the instructional context advanced learning. Findings of this study seem to suggest that learning can indeed be assisted by computers when the use of these tools is supported by appropriate theories of learning and careful orchestration of the curriculum.

The aim of this article is to examine the first two books in Jason Goodwin’s detective Yashim series and their Turkish translations in terms of “back translation”. Research subjects are The Janissary Tree (2006) and its Turkish translations by Çiğdem Öztekin dated 2006 and by Fethi Aytuna dated 2016 as well as The Snake Stone (2007) and its Turkish translations by Ali Cevat Akkoyunlu dated 2007 and by Fethi Aytuna dated 2017. The theoretical framework is based on the concepts of “foreign language creation”, a text describing a specific culture in a foreign language, and “textless back translation”, translation of a “foreign language creation” back into the language of that specific culture. Describing the Ottoman culture in English, Goodwin’s books can be considered as “foreign language creation” while their Turkish translations, which bring the culture back into its own land, can be considered as “textless back translation”. Depicting a foreign culture in his own language, thereby acting as a translator, the writer’s decisions are discussed within the choice of translation method in “foreign language creation”. Translating a “foreign language creation” back into Turkish, the translators’ decisions are discussed within the choice of translation method in “textless back translation”. In this respect, Ting Guo’s (2017) article entitled “On Foreign Language Creation and Rootless Back Translation–A Case Study of Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” is taken as the reference point and the categories of translation methods are expanded with regard to textual findings. It is concluded that individual translation decisions of the Turkish translators support the idea that translators from the domestic culture might take the initiative to rearrange the source text information in their target text.

The objective of the research carried out was to determine the effect of the Bloomfield program on the competences of English as a foreign language in the students of a language center-2020. The research had an applied study, experimental design and a quasi-experimental class. The sample was non-probabilistic, in which a pre-test and post-test of level A1 were applied within the Common European Framework of References. The total population was 317, and the selected sample of 174 students. The results were tabulated from the collection of test results. Then the results in the post test showed that 100% were at the beginning level, 0% achieved, and 0% outstanding. On the other hand, the post test showed that 0% in the beginning, 1% in the process level, and 99% in the outstanding level in the competence of English as a foreign language. Concluding in this way that the applied program significantly improves the competences of English as a foreign language in Peruvian students in Bloomfield Idiomas, 2020.

AbstrakGembyung sebagai kesenian buhun yang menjadi sebuah seni pertunjukan di Panjalu, hingga kini tetap bertahan dengan ciri ketradisionalannya. Bersama dengan pelaksanaan Upacara Nyangku maupun peringatan Maulid Nabi Saw. atau pada acara hiburan pada saat khitanan anak, Gembyung tampil bersahaja. Namun demikian, penampilannya tetap menyampaikan makna baik melaui gerak, lagu, gending musik, maupun sesajennya bahwa hidup akan terus bergerak seiring berlangsungnya sang waktu. Bagi masyarakat Panjalu, Seni Gembyung tidak hanya sebuah ungkapan ekspresi keindahan, namun lebih dari itu, Gembyung memiliki makna kecintaan serta penghormatan kepada asal-usul leluhur mereka. Tulisan ini berupaya mengupas fungsi Seni Gembyung pada masyarakat Panjalu. Ada dua bagian yang dibahas, pertama gambaran sosial budaya masyarakat Panjalu tempat kesenian ini tumbuh. Kedua, menjelaskan Seni Gembyung, mulai dari perkembangannya, lagu dan teknik pementasan, fungsi dan peranan kesenian ini pada masyarakat pendukungnya. Serta, upaya masyarakat Panjalu memelihara Seni Gembyung agar tidak tergerus oleh seni modern yang semakin deras berupaya menggeser seni lokal. Tulisan ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. AbstractGembyung is a kind of traditional performance art in Panjalu that has a long history. Along with Nyangku ceremony or commemoration of Maulid Nabi Saw. (the birth of prophet Muhammad Saw.), or celebration after a child has circumsized, gembyung is played in a very plain way. The mystical music and the fragrance of the offerings accompanied the dancers in expressing their respect to the ancestors. This paper tries to reveal the function of gembyung art in the society of Panjalu. There are two parts to be discussed: firstly, the description of sociocultural setting of Panjalu society where the art has been developed. Secondly, explanation of gembyung art, beginning with the development, the songs, and the performance techniques. A descriptive method and qualitative approach were conducted in this paper.

The existence of Balinese performance art can be observed through a long journey based on such of clues like artifact and ancient inscription which are found and described the categories of our inheritance performance art at the present are existed since the age of Ancient Balinese. Through the awareness of history, the age of Ancient Balinese is made of by the relationships between Balinese and East Javanese kings. In another ways can be comprised that the Balinese performance art is included in ancient Balinese performance art which is known as the product of Javanese culture and Balinese tradition’s acculturation. The East Javanese culture’s inheritance has cultivated by the fallen of Balinese’s Kingdom under Majapahit since the governance of King Asta Sura, Ratna Bumi Banten which caused the dominant influence of Majapahit’s culture to the development of Balinese culture until now. Seen that the Balinese performance art has a meaning to regenerate and socialize the Balinese culture and can also assumed that traditional performance art is become the identity of Balinese culture. The changes of age and the existence of culture system will influence the form and structure of performance art so that in reconstructing of traditional performance art as a history moment is always limited by space, proceed with time and reconstruct to the artist’s style. The changes of form and art structure can be possessed as a history process while its meaning and characteristics are always powered and prevented the genuine of Balinese culture art.

This paper reports on an online guided reading program designed and developed by the authors, and implemented in class conditions. The program allows students to read a short story from a computer screen and obtain immediate support, in the form of suggested problem-solving strategies designed to help them overcome the lexical and grammatical difficulties commonly encountered by intermediate language students, at local text level, during the reading process. Based on the analysis of case studies of readers, the chief objective of this study is to gauge the pedagogical relevance of the guided reading program and suggest that it facilitates intermediate language students’ first encounters with literary texts.

In English as Foreign Language (EFL) classroom context, it is compulsory for the students to make reflections of literary works. The current study is aimed at examining how the students implement Gibbs� reflective cycle in making reflections of literary analysis. The qualitative study employed a document analysis upon the students� reflection artefacts. The students� reflections are their responses to a short story written by Amy Tan. The findings of the study revealed that Gibbs� reflective cycle is a good framework to be used by the students in writing reflections upon literary works they are working on. The well-structured framework of writing reflection helped the students explore the literary work deeply, since the reflective cycle accommodates important aspects that can be explored from the literary work by the students. It can be concluded from this study that among the models of reflective writing developed by Kolb, Johnson, and Gibbs, the latest model is considered the most suitable to be used in literary classroom since its well-structured model enables the students to write better reflections of literary works.Keywords: reflective writing; Gibbs� reflective cycle framework; literary works; literary analysis.
