Studies examining the experience of children returned from foster care can reveal its causes and the severity of the psychological consequences, as well as the positive effect of psychological support on family functioning. Our research was aimed at the features of children and characteristics of foster families who refuse to continue parenting foster children. The study participants were comprised of families raising a foster child (Group One—182 families), and families who refused to continue parenting and returned the child (Group Two—19 families). The study was conducted using the “standardized interview for parents” and the “list of traumatic experiences of the child.” The results show that the strongest contributor to foster family breakdown was the degree of the child’s traumatic experience before placement (for Group One, 3.9 (1.15); Group Two, 6.1 (1.31), U = 395.0, p < 0.001) and the minimal participation of the family in an intervention program (the total number of program activities the family did not participate in; for Group One, 48.5 (28.27)%, Group Two, 95.5 (2.58)%, U = 67.5, p < 0.001). Our data expand ideas about the functioning of foster families who have taken children with significant traumatic experience and indicate the need to improve the quality of psychological and social support to foster families as an important factor in preventing secondary returns.

The suicide of a loved one can be a traumatic experience. The objective of this study was to investigate trauma-related experiences of suicide survivors. This is a qualitative study with people who had recently lost a family member or a close one to suicide, conducted at least two months after the event. Forty-one participants agreed to take part in the study and were interviewed. The interviewees' perception was that suicide brought harm, symptoms, and suffering. Traumatic experiences can begin immediately after the event, with many reporting symptoms lasting many months and persistent impact, both personal and to the family. Postvention models after suicide should incorporate such findings, and investigate trauma consistently.

The Internet and advanced technology are increasingly dominating our lives. The number of researches regarding the aggressive behaviour of teenagers on the Internet is rapidly increasing. This study aims at revealing the features of cyberbullying in popular social networks and its negative psychological consequences. This article summarises the results of using Google Trends in the context of ‘bullying’ and ‘cyberbullying’ during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kazakhstan during the transition to distance learning. A total number of 32 adolescents participated in an online survey about cyberbullying. According to our results, all participants said that this is a terrifying fact to believe that they cannot rely on adults when it comes to cyberbullying unlike traditional bullying, where the aggressor is known to the face and can be avoided, but the pursuer is anonymous in cyberspace. Cyberbullying can be particularly dangerous for children and adolescents who have had traumatic experiences or who have experienced rejection within the family.   Keywords: Internet space, cyberbullying, victimisation, COVID-19, technology.

The article reveals the specifics of professional activities of specialists that support foster families taking care of adolescents.The outcomes of our study allow us to compare the emotional environment in foster families and families of origin (birth families).For the first time we have identified the criteria of the family emotional environment that affect adopted adolescents.The emotional attitude of adopted and biological adolescents towards the mother and father and other members of the family differs in a number of ways.Late adolescents usually lack the feeling of psychological comfort in the family as they are often overwhelmed by sadness.In foster families as well as in birth families the attitude to mothers is more positive as compared to the attitude to fathers and other family members.It is argued that a positive image of the foster mother in adopted adolescents forms the basis for their positive emotional well-being and feeling of being safe, which enables them to socialize.Spending quality time together plays an important role in creating the emotional environment, and that is true both for foster families and for families of origin.

The article presents the legal basis for the independence of foster care charges and the analysis of statistical information on independence in Warsaw in 2012–2019, in the period after the introduction of the Act on supporting the family and foster care. Part of the research carried out in a group of 52 young adults leaving foster families and care and educational facilities in Warsaw, describing their opinions on the reasons for which they were placed in foster care, their contacts with their parents and relations with their relatives, was also discussed.

This study examined the family functioning of a cross-sectional sample of all approved and insured child-foster-care families in a mid-Atlantic state. The families studied functioned from well to excellent according to the Family Assessment Device. White and African American foster families showed relatively little difference in family functioning and both consistently scored better than did normative samples. Foster care's perceived Impact on the families was minimal and tended to be more positive than negative. The authors compare these results with other studies and suggest implications of their findings for practice.

The article explains the Russian model of social orphanhood eradicating based on the analysis of the dynamics of the adoption and foster care and social orphanhood prevention, the legislation development and a compari- son with the international experience. The effectiveness of the state policy is depends on focus of the top federal and regional officials, the dynamic legis- lative development, federal financial support and creative accomplishing the tasks of social orphanhood eradicating throughout the country. Author proposes methodology for evaluating the regions performance based on math- ematical models of the continuity equation. The article identifies a number of factors determine the features of the state policy implementation throughout Russia, including ethnic and religious factors, geographical proximity to the international experience, migration flows, climatic conditions, and the health level. It is pointed out that the implementation of the National Strategy for Action on Children plays a key role in forming the Russian model. The main modern challengers are defining the strategy and tactics of the family and foster care of children difficult to place in family, services on interdepartmental basis, and economic crisis, which may lead to an increasing return of children from foster families.

This article recognizes the high incidence and prevalence of falls in the elderly. Psychological factors can play a definite role as part of the etiology. The fall can be a depressive signal or a cry for help from a demoralized elderly patient. The authors stress the importance of recognizing the depressive syndrome of the elderly. Psychological consequences of the falls are reviewed at three different levels. For the elderly, the consequences are frequently a fear that can lead to a sharp decrease in functional capacity. For the family, the fall can lead to the institutionalization of the elderly or a very restrictive surveillance. For the family physician, the fall is frequently perceived as an emergency that leads to immediate unwarranted admission. A rational approach, with education and guidelines, is proposed and can render this traumatic experience less dramatic at these three different levels.

Children, brought up in foster families, experience various problems (diffi culties in interpersonal relationships with parents, diffi culties in communicating with peers, emotional instability), which lead to confl icts, quarrels, running away from home, destructive phenomena, etc. One of the eff ective forms of working with children brought up in foster families is individual counselling. Individual counselling is used by various specialists (psychologists, educators, psychotherapists), where a special place is taken by a social educator. His or her activity involves the implementation of social-protective, preventive, educational, informational, advisory functions. In the process of organizing individual counseling, the social educator takes into account the social situation of the family and the child, personal characteristics, social conditions, social and cultural characteristics and the nature of the relationship with the social environment. To organize individual counseling, a social educator needs to master various and eff ective techniques, and take into account a number of recommendations. An analysis of the literature and practical socio-pedagogical experience led to an understanding of the insuffi cient degree of elaboration of this issue. The purpose of this article was the solution to this problem.

private letters of the early 1920s from the personal correspondence of the interpreter K. A. Morozova are published. The content of the messages is connected with the family tragedy (the death of Morozova's brother, officer A. A. Borislavsky during the" disinfection "of the Crimea from the "white guards" at the end of 1920) shared by Morozova with the author of the letters, her brother's wife. How the letter’s writer, who lived in Feodosia during the red terror, describes her traumatic experience, is considered. It is recorded how she comprehends what happened and how she tries to "arrange" a new life in Soviet Russia.
