In the smart mariculture, batch testing of breeding traits is a key issue in the breeding of improved fish varieties. The body length (BL), body width (BW) and body area (BA) features of fish are important indicators. They are of great significance in breeding, feeding and classification. To accurately and intelligently obtain the morphological characteristic sizes of fish in actual scenes, data augmentation is first used to greatly expand the published fish dataset, thereby ensuring the robustness of the training model. Then, an improved U-net segmentation and measurement algorithm is proposed, which uses a dilated convolution with a dilation rate 2 and a convolution to partially replace the convolution in the original U-net. This operation can enlarge the partial convolution receptive field and achieve more accurate segmentation for large targets in the scene. Finally, a line fitting method based on the least squares method is proposed, which is combined with the body shape features of fish and can accurately measure the BL and BW of inclined fish. Experimental results show that the Mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) is 97.6% and the average relative error of the area is 0.69%. Compared with the unimproved U-net, the average relative error of the area is reduced to about half. Moreover, with the improved U-net and the line fitting method, the average relative error of BL and the average relative error of BW of inclined fish decrease to 0.37% and 0.61%, respectively.

Abstract Bivariate morphological scaling relationships describe how the sizes of two traits co-vary among adults in a population. In as much as body shape is reflected by the relative size of various traits within the body, morphological scaling relationships capture how body shape varies with size, and therefore have been used widely as descriptors of morphological variation within and among species. Despite their extensive use, there is continuing discussion over which line-fitting method should be used to describe linear morphological scaling relationships. Here I argue that the “best” line-fitting method is the one that most accurately captures the proximate developmental mechanisms that generate scaling relationships. Using mathematical modeling, I show that the “best” line-fitting method depends on the pattern of variation among individuals in the developmental mechanisms that regulate trait size. For Drosophila traits, this pattern of variation indicates that major axis regression is the best line-fitting method. For morphological traits in other animals, however, other line-fitting methods may be more accurate. I provide a simple web-based application for researchers to explore how different line-fitting methods perform on their own morphological data.

Постоянно растущий интерес к разработке новых неинвазивных и безманжетных методов измерения параметров сердечной деятельности, использование которых давало бы возможность непрерывного и удаленного контроля сердечно-сосудистой системы, обуславливает актуальность данной работы. В многочисленных публикациях продолжаются обсуждения преимуществ и недостатков различных методов ранней диагностики сердечно-сосудистых заболеваний. Однако артефакты движения являются сильной помехой, мешающей точной оценке показателей функционирования сердечно-сосудистой системы. Одним из перспективных методов контроля является метод оценки физиологических параметров с использованием фотоплетизмографии. Данная статья посвящена разработке устройства для фотоплетизмографических исследований и алгоритмических методов обработки регистрируемых сигналов для обеспечения мониторинга сердечного ритма с заданной точностью. В работе используются технологии цифровой адаптивной фильтрации полученных сигналов для мониторинга сердечного ритма в условиях внешних механических и электрических помеховых воздействий, ухудшающих точностные характеристики системы, а также разработана архитектура системы и изготовлен макет устройства, который позволил провести измерения для определения оптимального алгоритма цифровой обработки сигналов. При использовании устройства применялись методы адаптивной фильтрации на основе фильтров Винера, фильтров на основе метода наименьших квадратов и Калмановской фильтрации. Разработанное устройство для фотоплетизмографических исследований обеспечило возможность мониторинга сердечного ритма с заданной точностью, контроля текущего состояния организма и может быть использовано в качестве средства диагностики заболеваний сердца The constantly growing interest in the development of new non-invasive and cuff-free methods for measuring the parameters of cardiac activity, the use of which would give the possibility of continuous and remote monitoring of the cardiovascular system, determines the relevance of this work. Numerous publications continue to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of various methods of early diagnosis of cardiovascular disease. However, motion artifacts are a strong hindrance to the accurate assessment of the performance of the cardiovascular system. One of the promising control methods is the method for assessing physiological parameters using photoplethysmography. This article is devoted to the development of a device for photoplethysmographic studies and algorithmic methods for processing recorded signals to ensure monitoring of the heart rate with a given accuracy. The work uses technologies of digital adaptive filtering of the received signals to monitor the heart rate in conditions of external mechanical and electrical interference, which worsen the accuracy characteristics of the system, as well as the architecture of the system and a prototype of the device, which made it possible to carry out measurements to determine the optimal algorithm for digital signal processing. When using the device, the methods of adaptive filtering based on Wiener filters, filters based on the least squares method and Kalman filtering were used. The developed device for photoplethysmographic studies provided the ability to monitor the heart rate with a given accuracy, control the current state of the body and can be used as a means of diagnosing heart diseases

Black-winged myna (Acridotheres melanopterus) is an endemic bird of Java and Bali, currently critically endangered based on International Union of Conservation for Nature (IUCN) since 2010. The study about black-winged myna morphological characteristic is important because it has two relatives with almost identical features of morphology. The information can be used as a basis in breeding management to avoid hybridization. The study aims to determine the morphological characteristics of black-winged myna. The sample selection was done using purposive sampling method. Data was taken from 36 black-winged mynas with >=2 years old. Data collection was done by measuring and documenting every morphological feature of the observed body parts. Documentation of the wings, back, chest, head and sides of the body are taken from each bird using a digital camera. The results showed that almost the entire body of black-winged myna covered by white feather, black feather only present on the cover of the wings and tail. Black eyes surrounded by yellow skin without feather. The beak is orange with blackish parts around the nostrils. The bird has yellow legs with three fingers at the front and one finger at the back. The average body length of this bird is 22.5 cm, weight 89.02 g, width 5.98 cm, body circumference 14.36 cm and wingspan 38.49 cm.

An analytical approach for treating problems involving oscillatory heat source is presented. The transient temperature profile involving circular, rectangular, and parabolic heat sources undergoing oscillatory motion on a semi-infinite body is determined by integrating the instantaneous solution for a point heat source throughout the area where the heat source acts with an assumption that the body takes all the heat. An efficient algorithm for solving the governing equations is developed. The results of a series simulations are presented, covering a wide range of operating parameters including a new dimensionless frequency ω¯=ωl2∕4α and the dimensionless oscillation amplitude A¯=A∕l, whose product can be interpreted as the Peclet number involving oscillatory heat source, Pe=ω¯A¯. Application of the present method to fretting contact is presented. The predicted temperature is in good agreement with published literature. Furthermore, analytical expressions for predicting the maximum surface temperature for different heat sources are provided by a surface-fitting method based on an extensive number of simulations.

The limit state function is important for the assessment of the longitudinal strength of damaged ships under combined bending moments in severe waves. As the limit state function cannot be obtained directly, the common approach is to calculate the results for the residual strength and approximate the limit state function by fitting, for which various methods have been proposed. In this study, four commonly used fitting methods are investigated: namely, the least-squares method, the moving least-squares method, the radial basis function neural network method, and the weighted piecewise fitting method. These fitting methods are adopted to fit the limit state functions of four typically sample distribution models as well as a damaged tanker and damaged bulk carrier. The residual strength of a damaged ship is obtained by an improved Smith method that accounts for the rotation of the neutral axis. Analysis of the results shows the accuracy of the linear least-squares method and nonlinear least-squares method, which are most commonly used by researchers, is relatively poor, while the weighted piecewise fitting method is the better choice for all investigated combined-bending conditions.

In practical building control, quickly obtaining detailed indoor temperature distribution is necessary for providing satisfying personal comfort and improving building energy efficiency. The aim of this study is to propose a fast prediction method for indoor temperature distribution without knowing the thermal boundary conditions in practical applications. In this method, the index of contribution ratio of indoor climate (CRI), which represents the independent contribution of each heat source to the temperature distribution, has been combined with the air temperature collected by one mobile sensor at the height of the working area. Based on a typical office model, the effectiveness of using mobile sensors was discussed, and the influence of its acquisition height and acquisition distance on the prediction accuracy was analyzed as well. The results showed that the proposed prediction method was effective. When the sensors fixed on the wall were used to predict the indoor temperature distribution, the maximum average relative error was 27.7%, whereas when the mobile sensor was used to replace the fixed sensors, the maximum average relative error was 4.8%. This indicates that using mobile sensors with flexible acquisition location can help promote both reliability and accuracy of temperature prediction. In the human activity area, data from a set of mobile sensors were used to predict the temperature distribution at four heights. The prediction accuracy was 2.1%, 2.1%, 2.3%, and 2.7%, respectively. However, the influence of acquisition distance of mobile sensors on prediction accuracy cannot be ignored. The distance should be large enough to disperse the distribution of the acquisition points. Due to the influence of airflow, some distance between the acquisition points and the room boundaries should be given.

The aim of this work was to study the structure of lung and hepatopancreas of Roman snail (Helix of pomatia of L., 1758). The study found that the lung occupies the lower turn of shell and presented by a saccate cavity, in the wall of that there are a kidney and heart with a pericardium, and also a rectum and ureter pass. An external surface of lungs covered by a shell and covered by an epidermis. An internal surface is covered by a flat ciliated epithelium and forms numerous folds in which pulmonary vessels and lacunae are accommodated. The branches of pulmonary vein have a thick muscular wall, that consists of circular and longitudinal muscular layers. An internal surface of lungs covered by the layer of mucus. Inhalation and exhalation are carried out due to reduction and relaxation of muscles of dorsal wall of the body that is named a “diaphragm”. Gas exchange occurs through the hemolymphatic capillaries of the lung wall. Respiratory motions take place not rhythmically, but through the different intervals of time depending on a requirement in oxygen. The frequency of pneumostome closing and opening is typically one time in a minute. At subzero humidity of atmospheric air of pneumostome closed by a mantle, and also one (or a few) epiphragms. The hepatopancreas (“liver” or liver gland) is in the upper rotation of the sink and formed by two parts: right and left, from which two liver ducts enter into the stomach respectively. The digestive cells of the hepatopencreas are more elongated, often clavicular. Сytoplasm of digestive cells is loose and vacuolated and contain inclusions of yellow-green color. Enzyme cells on histopreparations are difficult to distinguish from digestive ones. They contain transparent vacuoles with a large round inclusion of yellow-green color, which consists of a cluster of several grains of different sizes. Hepatopancreas performs the following functions: secretory (enzyme cells), absorption and intracellular digestion (digestive cells), preservation of nutrients and calcium (calcium cells), and also excretory function.

The overall orientation of the research problem is focused on the physical activity level of the participants from the aspect of different intensities of motor engagement and their impact on morphological characteristics and motor skills with an intention of determining whether there are statistically significant differences between groups. In a sample of 103 students, aged between 18 and 20 years (18.9 ± 0.4), the female students were divided into three subsamples according to the level of physical activity: highly active, active and inactive. The study which was conducted had a transversal character. The data obtained in the survey were analysed using the univariate (ANOVA) and multivariate (MANOVA) statistical methods. The motor skills mere monitored by the use of the Eurofit Test Battery (wide-angle seated forward bend, standing long jump, pull-up endurance, 10 x 5m shuttle run and endurance shuttle run- beep test). The following morphological characteristics were considered: height, weight, body mass index, percentage of muscular mass and fat mass, as well as waist circumference. The obtained results indicate the existence of statistically significant differences between the % body muscle mass´ groups (p < 0.05) and motor skills parameters (sit and reach, p<0.01; standing broad jump, bent arm hang, 10x5m shuttlerun, beep test, p<0.001) of participants according to physical activity level. In conclusion, participants with a high level of physical activities have higher average values than the participants with light level of physical activities when considering the variables for assessing pliability, strength and agility.Resumen. La orientación general del problema de investigación se centra en el nivel de actividad física de las participantes desde el aspecto de diferentes intensidades de compromiso motor y su impacto en las características morfológicas y habilidades motrices con la intención de determinar si existen diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre los grupos. En una muestra de 103 alumnas, con edades comprendidas entre los 18 y 20 años (18,9 ± 0,4), las estudiantes fueron divididas en tres grupos de acuerdo con el nivel de actividad física de cada uno: muy activas, activas e inactivas. El estudio llevado a cabo tuvo un carácter transversal. Los datos obtenidos mediante cuestionarios fueron analizados utilizando un análisis de la varianza (ANOVA) y un análisis multivariante de la varianza (MANOVA). Las habilidades fueron controladas mediante la batería Eurofit y para las características morfológicas, se midió la altura, peso, índice de masa corporal, porcentaje de masa muscular, masa grasa y la circunferencia de la cintura. Los resultados obtenidos indican la existencia de diferencias entre los grupos estudiados respecto al % de masa muscular (p <0.05) y las habilidades motrices (flexibilidad-inclinación hacia adelante, p<0.01; salto de longitud a pie, fuerza resistencia mediante flexión de brazos, 10 x 5 m carrera de ida y vuelta y Beep Test, p<0.001) de los participantes según el nivel de actividad física. En conclusión, las participantes con alto nivel de actividad física tienen mayores valores de habilidad motriz que las participantes que el resto en función de las variables flexibilidad, capacidad aeróbica, fuerza y agilidad.

ABSTRACT Investigations of four roe deer corpses were carried out from May until October 2014, in the Veterinary Forensic Laboratory and in the Parasitic Diseases Clinic, in the Iasi Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The roe deer were harvested by shooting during the trophy hunting season. The clinical examination of the shot specimens revealed the presence of a highly consistent number of extremely mobile apterous insects, spread on the face, head, neck, lateral body parts, abdominal regions, inguinal, perianal and, finally, all over the body. The corpses presented weakening, anemia and cutaneous modification conditions. Several dozen insects were prelevated in a glass recipient and preserved in 70º alcoholic solution in order to identify the ectoparasite species. The morphological characteristics included insects in the Diptera order, Hippoboscidae family, Lipoptena cervi species. These are highly hematophagous insects that by severe weakening are affecting the game health and trophy quality. Histological investigations of the skin revealed some inflammatory reactions caused by ectoparasite Lipoptena cervi. Lipoptena cervi was identified for the first time in Iasi County, Romania.
