Obesity is currently the most common metabolic disease, causing numerous health problems and, if untreated, leading to premature mortality. Obesity is a significant issue among people of working age since their ability to work depends directly on their health condition and psychomotor fitness. Demographic and socioeconomic factors have a significant impact on the body weight of people of working age. The aim of this study is to identify relationships between the body mass index and selected demographic and socioeconomic variables in working-age residents of the city of Wrocław, Poland. The study involved 4315 respondents (2206 women and 2109 men) aged 18–64 years from Wrocław. The sample selection was random and purposive, using multilevel stratification. The applied research tool was the authors’ own cross-sectional diagnostic questionnaire of socioeconomic status. Based on the collected data, the respondents’ body weight was categorized according to WHO criteria. The majority of respondents (60%) had a normal body weight, while 40% were categorized as overweight or obese. The difference was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Sex, age, occupational status, marital status, number of people in the household, having a steady source of income, disposable (net) income, and savings were significantly correlated (p < 0.001) with respondents’ body mass index. Public health programs aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle behaviors should be addressed primarily to groups at the highest risk of overweight and obesity.

Introduction: When both parents are obesity, thus the children are 80% potentially become overweight or obesity. If one of the parent is overweight or obesity, thus the children are 40% potentially to become overweight or obesity. The purpose of the study is to analyze is there any significant relationship between parents’ body shape with overweight among students at Singkawang Adventist School.  Method: The method of the study is descriptive with quantitative method and the cross sectional design. Sampling technique is total sampling among the overweight students. Number of respondens are 35 persons which have been measure body height, body weight and determined Body Mass Index (BMI). Data processing using SPSS Program.  Result: The results of the study show that the status of overweight students is obesity and parents’ body shape are overweight (there is no significant relationship between obesity in adolescents with the body shape of the father with a significance of (0.086) with a ρ value> 0.05 as well as no significant relationship between obesity in adolescents with the body shape of their mothers, with a significance of  (0.411) with ρ value> 0.005). There is no significant relationship between overweight students with parents’ body shape. There is not enough evidence to refuse null hypothesis.  Disscussion: Recommendation are given to Singkawang Adventist School Students in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle and give effort to reduce body weight. Abstract Introduction. It’s known that the issue of polytrauma is one of the most urgent problems of surgery, and among injured patients a special approach is required for patients with overweight and obesity of varying degrees. Purpose of the study. To study prognostic features of traumatic disease course and to improve the results of diagnostics and surgical treatment of patients with polytrauma suffer obesity. Materials and methods. Clinical material was made up of 106 patients with combined body trauma, which were divided into three groups according to body mass index. Results. The results of the research showed a significant difference in the course of traumatic disease in patients with normal body weight and obesity. In particular, in the process of diagnostics of blunt chest and abdominal trauma the frequency of application of interventional methods of diagnostics was directly proportional to the increase of body mass index. The course of traumatic disease in the obese patients had a number of characteristic features that formed the basis for the development of diagnostics and differential program of treatment. Conclusions. The results of the research showed that the course of traumatic disease in combined injury obese patients is directly proportional to the body mass index and has certain features that differentiate them from patients with normal body weight. This is a descriptive, retrospective study with cross-sectional quantitative approach, which aimed to relate the body mass index with events in the postoperative period of the myocardial revascularization surgery with use of extracorporeal circulation. The data collection period was between April and June/2012. Patients were divided according to the body mass index and classified as without excess of weight, overweight or obese. The data analysis was based on the descriptive statistics. The patients without excess of weight had more complications, especially those related to the lungs. Among overweight and obese individuals, the cardiovascular complications stood out. The obese subjects had the worse prognostic. Obesity and overweight did not have statistically significant association with a higher frequency of postoperative complications, in spite of the occurrence of cardiovascular complications in this group. The patients without excess of weight had higher risks of developing neurological events.

Abstract: Correlation Between Stress Level And Body Mass Index On Medical Student Of Tanjungpura University. Stress is an unspecific body response disturbed body needs. The body mass index is an indicator for the categories of underweight, normal, overweight, and obesity. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between stress level and body mass index on the student at the medical faculty of Tanjungpura University. This study was an analitic the observasional with cross sectional design. A total of 79 students were studied. The study was conducted in medical faculty of Tanjungpura University. Data was analyzed by Spearman test . Result of this study showed that 28,6% students had mild stress level and 45,2% had normal body mass index. Spearman test showed significant correlation between stress level and body mass index (p= 0,000; r= -0,734). There was significant correlation between stress level with body mass index among medical students.Abstrak: Hubungan Tingkat Stres Dengan Indeks Massa Tubuh Mahasiswa PSPD FK Untan. Stres adalah respon tubuh tidak spesifik terhadap kebutuhan tubuh yang terganggu. Indeks massa tubuh adalah indikator untuk kategori underweight, normal, overweight, dan obesitas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan tingkat stres dengan indeks massa tubuh mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Tanjungpura angkatan 2013. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian analitik observasional dengan pendekatan Cross sectional. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 79 orang mahasiswa. Penelitian dilakukan di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Tanjungpura Pontianak. Hasil penelitian diuji dengan uji statistik Rank Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 24 orang (28,6%) mengalami stres ringan dan 38 orang (45,2%) dengan berat badan normal. Berdasarkan analisis statistik diperoleh nilai signifikansi (p) yang didapatkan adalah 0,000 dan nilai korelasi (r) adalah 0,734. Terdapat hubungan yang bermakna antara tingkat stres dengan indeks massa tubuh mahasiswa PSPD.

Background: Childhood obesity is a serious public health concern in both developed and developing countries. The children share food habits, physical activity habits etc. with their parents either in term of genetic or environmental influences, which affects the body mass index of the children. The objective of this study was to study the association of parental overweight/obesity with overweight/obesity in the children.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a government aided school in Nagpur during January 2016 to April 2016. Data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire which had information regarding the socio demographic characteristics like age, sex, socio economic status etc. Anthropometric measurements like height and weight of the children and their parents were measured. Necessary permissions were sought before the start of the study.Results: We found a significant association (p<0.01) between the obesity and overweight status of father and mother with the body mass index of their children with an odds ratio of 2.49 (1.69 to 3.66) and 2.90 (1.98 to 4.25) respectively. If both the parents are overweight/obese then the odds of their being overweight/obese is 3.00 (1.93-4.68). If either of parents is overweight/ obese, then the odds ratio is 3.10 (2.12-4.54).Conclusions: Stronger and significant associations were found between the overweight and obesity of the parents and their children. A significantly positive correlation was found between the body mass index of parents and body mass index of their children.

ABSTRACT Introduction Overweight and obesity are growing healthrelated problems worldwide, and it is currently the most prevalent nutritional disorder among children and adolescents. The objective of this study was to assess the association between overweight and dental caries among 12- to 15-year-old schoolchildren in Mangaluru district, Karnataka, India. Materials and methods Data were obtained from 2000 schoolgoing children aged 12 to 15 years. The children were categorized as overweight and normal-weight group by assessing the body mass index (BMI). Body mass index was categorized using the classification system given by the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF) and obtained in units of kg/m2. The dental caries was assessed by detection and was performed according to decayed, missing, and filled teeth (DMFT) index. Results Of the 2000 children examined, the mean BMI recorded was 26.87 ± 2.26 for the overweight children and 20.82 ± 1.48 for the normal-weight children. Even though the DMFT (3.90 ± 2.95) in the overweight children was slightly higher than the control group (3.36 ± 2.73), it was not statistically significant. Conclusion Within the confines of the present study, it can be concluded that there is no significant association between overweight and dental caries among the schoolchildren of Mangaluru district in Karnataka. Longitudinal studies are necessary to substantiate the possible relationships between dental caries and overweight in children. Knowledge of these relationships could lead to preventive health measures designed to reduce the prevalence of both obesity and dental caries. Background: Prevalence of obesity in youths has drastically increased in both industrialised and non-industrialised countries, and this transition resulted in an increased prevalence of chronic diseases.Aim: The study aimed to comparatively examine prevalence of overweight and obesity status based on tri-ponderal mass index and body mass index in estimating body fat levels in South African children.Setting: The study was conducted in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces of South Africa.Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 1361 (boys: n = 678; girls: n = 683) children aged 9–13 years was undertaken. The children’s age and sex-related measurements of body weight, waist-to-height ratio, waist-to-hip ratio, triceps skinfold, subscapular skinfolds and sum of skinfold were taken using the International Society for Advancement of Kinanthropometry protocol. TMI and BMI calculations classified children according to weight and age categories. Descriptive statistics, Spearman’s correlations and multiple linear regression analyses were set at ≤ 0.05.Results: Obesity classifications on TMI and BMI among children were as follows: Boys: 7.3%, 2.6%; 2.2%, 0.7%; Girls: 4.0%, 1.0%; 1.8%, 0.6%. Body weight, WHtR, WHpR, TSKF, SSKF and ΣSKF significantly correlated with TMI (r = 0.40, p 0.001; r = 0.73, p 0.001; r = −0.09, p 0.001; r = 0.50, p 0.001; r = 0.51, p 0.001 and r = 0.52, p 0.001) and BMI (r = 0.81, p 0.001; r = 0.59, p 0.001; r = −0.22, p 0.001; r = 0.63, p 0.001; r = 0.67, p 0.001 and r = 0.66, p 0.001). Regression analysis revealed that body weight, WHtR, WHpR, TSKF, SSKF and ΣSKF accounted for 65% and 85% of variance in children’s TMI (R2 = 0.647, F[6 1354] = 413.977, p 0.001) and BMI (R2 = 0.851, F[6 1354] = 1288.218, p 0.001).Conclusion: TMI revealed strikingly higher incidence of overweight and obesity in South African boys and girls than BMI. Future studies are needed to clarify sensitivity of TMI over BMI in quantifying obesity prevalence in children and adolescents.

Research in Semarang 9.1% and 10.6% of children aged 6-7 years, suffered from overweight and obesity, with the ratio of boys are higher than girls. Lifestyle changes is the first step to regulate body mass index back to normal. Healthy active lifestyle is now being campaigned, one of exercises that recently famous is biking. This research is to find out the relationship between time baseline with IMT and biking routine with IMT. This study is a one group survey without a control design. The method used in this study is a cross sectional survey. Respondents are biker who agreed to participated in this study. This study was conducted of 173 respondents. Non-parametric statistical analysis test using Kolmogorov smirnov (alternative test of chi square reasons the data does not meet the requirements). Data on the relationship between time baseline and BMI was p = 0.654 (p> 0.05), shows that time baseline is not related with body mass index (BMI) values. Furthermore, the relationship of biking routines with BMI was p = 0.376 (p> 0.05), which is not related between biking routines and body mass index (BMI) values. In conclusion, that time baseline and biking routines have no relationship to the body mass index value, as one of obesity indicator.

Background: Overweight and obesity as well as underweight in adolescence are risk factors of chronic diseases that occur in adulthood. The objective of this research was to assess the Body Mass Index of in-school adolescents and its relationship to socioeconomic status of their parents.Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of 454 adolescents aged 10-19 years selected from five secondary schools using multistage sampling technique. A semi-structured interviewer questionnaire was used to collect relevant information from the adolescents and their anthropometric measurement to determine their Body Mass Index. Their Body Mass Index was categorized into obese, overweight, normal and underweight using the International Obesity Task Force reference. Analysis was done using IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 20.1. Results: The prevalence of obesity, overweight, and underweight among the adolescents was 7.7%, 1.1% and 32.8% respectively. None of the students in the public schools was obese while 2.1% of the adolescents were obese in the private schools. Adolescents in public schools had a higher percentage of underweight (65.4%) compared to those in private schools (34.5%) and this was found statistically significant (p<0.001). There was an overall higher prevalence of overweight and obesity among the females than found among the males. This was also the case for adolescents from higher socio-economic parents. These differences were found to be statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: The Body Mass Index status of the in-school adolescents studied was found to increase with increased socioeconomic status of their parents. This underscores the need for sensitization of in-school adolescents to see the need of knowing their nutritional status and ways to avoid the consequences of abnormal Body Mass Index.
