The ear recognition task is known as predicting whether two ear images belong to the same person or not. More recently, most ear recognition methods have started based on deep learning features that can achieve a good accuracy, but it requires more resources in the training phase and suffer from time-consuming computational complexity. On the other hand, descriptor features and metric learning play a vital role and also provide excellent performance in many computer vision applications, such as face recognition and image classification. Therefore, in this paper, we adopt the descriptor features and present a novel metric learning method that is efficient in matching real-time for ear recognition system. This method is formulated as a pairwise constrained optimization problem. In each training cycle, this method selects the nearest similar and dissimilar neighbors of each sample to construct the pairwise constraints and then solves the optimization problem by the iterated Bregman projections. Experiments are conducted on Annotated Web Ears (AWE) database, West Pommeranian University of Technology (WPUT), the University of Science and Technology Beijing II (USTB II), and Mathematical Analysis of Images (AMI) databases.. The results show that the proposed approach can achieve promising recognition rates in ear recognition, and its training process is much more efficient than the other competing metric learning methods.

This paper presents the application of Gaussian blur filters and Support Vector Machine (SVM) techniques for greeting recognition among the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria. Existing efforts have considered different recognition gestures. However, tribal greeting postures or gestures recognition for the Nigerian geographical space has not been studied before. Some cultural gestures are not correctly identified by people of the same tribe, not to mention other people from different tribes, thereby posing a challenge of misinterpretation of meaning. Also, some cultural gestures are unknown to most people outside a tribe, which could also hinder human interaction; hence there is a need to automate the recognition of Nigerian tribal greeting gestures. This work hence develops a Gaussian Blur – SVM based system capable of recognizing the Yoruba tribe greeting postures for men and women. Videos of individuals performing various greeting gestures were collected and processed into image frames. The images were resized and a Gaussian blur filter was used to remove noise from them. This research used a moment-based feature extraction algorithm to extract shape features that were passed as input to SVM. SVM is exploited and trained to perform the greeting gesture recognition task to recognize two Nigerian tribe greeting postures. To confirm the robustness of the system, 20%, 25% and 30% of the dataset acquired from the preprocessed images were used to test the system. A recognition rate of 94% could be achieved when SVM is used, as shown by the result which invariably proves that the proposed method is efficient.

On the other hand, there are endless people who spread endless rumours overs social media and are adversely affecting life of people but we always count on media because they provide us with valuable answers to our questions, facts and everything in need. Media always remains on top of the line when it comes to stop the out spread of rumours which are surely dangerous kind of information for society. So on our side we should react fairly and maturely to handle the situation to keep it in the favour of humanity and help government not only to ϑight this pandemic but also the info emic.

The quantitative evaluation of producer and injector well interference based on well operation data (profiles of flow rates/injectivities and bottomhole/reservoir pressures) with the help of CRM (Capacitance-Resistive Models) is an optimization problem with large set of variables and constraints. The analytical solution cannot be found because of the complex form of the objective function for this problem. Attempts to find the solution with stochastic algorithms take unacceptable time and the result may be far from the optimal solution. Besides, the use of universal (commercial) optimizers hides the details of step by step solution from the user, for example&nbsp;— the ambiguity of the solution as the result of data inaccuracy.<br> The present article concerns two variants of CRM problem. The authors present a new algorithm of solving the problems with the help of “General Quadratic Programming Algorithm”. The main advantage of the new algorithm is the greater performance in comparison with the other known algorithms. Its other advantage is the possibility of an ambiguity analysis. This article studies the conditions which guarantee that the first variant of problem has a unique solution, which can be found with the presented algorithm. Another algorithm for finding the approximate solution for the second variant of the problem is also considered. The method of visualization of approximate solutions set is presented. The results of experiments comparing the new algorithm with some previously known are given.

AbstractIn this paper, we attempt to answer the questions whether iris recognition task under the influence of diabetes would be more difficult and whether the effects of diabetes and individuals’ age are uncorrelated. We hypothesized that the health condition of volunteers plays an important role in the performance of the iris recognition system. To confirm the obtained results, we reported the distribution of usable area in each subgroup to have a more comprehensive analysis of diabetes effects. There is no conducted study to investigate for which age group (young or old) the diabetes effect is more acute on the biometric results. For this purpose, we created a new database containing 1,906 samples from 509 eyes. We applied the weighted adaptive Hough ellipsopolar transform technique and contrast-adjusted Hough transform for segmentation of iris texture, along with three different encoding algorithms. To test the hypothesis related to physiological aging effect, Welches’s t-test and Kolmogorov–Smirnov test have been used to study the age-dependency of diabetes mellitus influence on the reliability of our chosen iris recognition system. Our results give some general hints related to age effect on performance of biometric systems for people with diabetes.

In machining, speeds play vital role. The operator should know exactly the speed at which machining should be performed to get the required surface finish. In this paper, an attempt is made to determine the optimal cutting speed for machining of alloy steels. Three work piece materials having different hardness are taken and machined using a round nose tool with a coated tip. The tool dynamometer is attached to the tool post for force measurement. Turning operation on the work piece is performed on lathe at four different speeds, keeping the feed and depth of cut constant. Cutting forces acting on the tool, temperature at the tool and material interface are recorded. Power consumed being determined by a wattmeter and surface roughness values are measured. The same procedure is repeated for the other two work-pieces materials and optimal speeds for machining are determined for the three specimens. The results obtained are compared with the theoretical values and found to be very close.

A dramatic rise in intracellular calcium plays a vital role at the moment of fertilization, eliciting the resumption of meiosis and the initiation of embryo development. In mammals, the rise takes the form of oscillations in calcium concentration within the egg, driven by an elevation in inositol trisphosphate. The causative agent of these oscillations is proposed to be a recently described phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C, PLCζ, a soluble sperm protein that is delivered into the egg following membrane fusion. In the present review, we examine some of the distinctive structural and functional characteristics of this crucial enzyme that sets it apart from the other known forms of mammalian PLC.

The shape, length, and size of the vocal tract and vocal folds vary with the age of the human being. The variation may be of different age or sickness or some other conditions. Arguably, the features extracted from the utterances for the recognition task may differ for different age group. It complicates further for different emotions. The recognition system demands suitable feature extraction and clustering techniques that can separate their emotional utterances. Psychologists, criminal investigators, professional counselors, law enforcement agencies and a host of other such entities may find such analysis useful. In this article, the emotion study has been evaluated for three different age groups of people using the basic age- dependent features like pitch, speech rate, and log energy. The feature sets have been clustered for different age groups by utilizing K-means and Fuzzy c-means (FCM) algorithm for the boredom, sadness, and anger states. K-means algorithm has outperformed the FCM algorithm in terms of better clustering and lower computation time as the authors' results suggest.

Although the visual modality often dominates the auditory one, one exception occurs in the presence of tempo discrepancies between the two perceptual systems: variations in auditory rate typically have a greater influence on perceived visual rate than vice versa. This phenomenon, termed “auditory driving,” is investigated here through certain techniques used in cinematic art. Experiments 1 and 2 relied on montages (slideshows) of still photos accompanied by musical selections in which the perceived rate of one modality was assessed through a recognition task while the rate of the other modality was systematically varied. A similar methodological strategy was used in Experiments 3 and 4 in which film excerpts of various moving objects were accompanied by the sounds they typically produce. In both cases, auditory dominance was observed, which has implications at both a theoretical and applied level.

Islam is unique in its relationship with politics. It plays a vital role in politics and governance, initially under the Rashidun and subsequently in many Muslim empires. The collapse of the Ottoman caliphate in 1924 and the process of decolonisation which started in the mid-twentieth-century led to the start of many Islamic political movements in newly independent Muslim countries. These movements now sit at a critical juncture, with Muslims around the world being polarised around two political extremes. On the one hand, we have Islamic radical groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda, while on the other hand we have secular parties which do not see any role for Islam in politics and governance in Muslim countries. In response, many traditional Islamist parties are now evolving into Muslim democratic parties. Unlike Islamists, Muslim democrats take a more inclusive approach, preferring to integrate Islamic religious values into political platforms designed to win regular democratic elections. The Ennahda Party of Tunisia is one Muslim party that reflects this evolution. R. Ghannouchi, who outlined Ennahdas transition, has argued that Tunisians today are less concerned about Islamisation or secularisationthan with building a democratic government that is inclusive and meets their aspirations for a better life. This paper is an attempt to investigate this shift and its consequences for Islamism across the Muslim world.
