The design is considered and theoretical research of operability of the active radial gas-static bearing with restrictors of output flow rate in the form of mobile rings with an elastic supports and the dampers working by Helmholtz acoustic resonator principle is done. The mathematical model of the bearing dynamics and method of calculating its degree of stability are developed. The device is steady against vibrations; it has smaller power consumption compared to the known devices with input regulators, a zero and negative compliance of a gas-lubricated film.

The paper is devoted to the computational and theoretical study of the injector block operation. A steam-water jet apparatus is considered, which is used as a means of circulating the primary circle coolant. The additional flow is supplied on the cylindrical section with a sudden expansion of the cross-section through the bridge. To achieve this goal, a computer program was developed that modeled the pressure dependence on the load in the circuit, and also a theoretical study of the influence of hydraulic resistance on the flow of the jumper was conducted. In this paper, only operating modes are considered, i.e. all the injectors function as pumps. In the process of the research, it was found that at a load of 30%, the injection coefficients of the steam-water jet apparatus increase, but the nature of the work of the jumpers does not change. It was also found out that the flow rate through the jumper does not change in proportion to the coefficient of hydraulic resistance of the jumper.

Due to their vanishingly low air friction, high wear resistance, and environmental friendliness, aerostatic bearings are used in machines, machine tools, and devices that require high accuracy of micro-movement and positioning. The characteristic disadvantages of aerostatic bearings are low load capacity, high compliance and an increased tendency for instability. In radial bearings, it is possible to use longitudinal microgrooves, which practically exclude circumferential air leakage, and contributes to a significant increase in load-bearing capacity. To reduce compliance to zero and negative values, inlet diaphragm and elastic airflow regulators are used. Active flow compensation is inextricably linked to the problem of ensuring the stability of bearings due to the presence of relatively large volumes of gas in the regulator, which have a destabilizing effect. This problem was solved by using an external combined throttling system. Bearings with input flow regulators have a number of disadvantages-they are very energy-intensive and have an insufficiently stable load capacity. A more promising way to reduce compliance is the use of displacement compensators for the movable element. Such bearings also allow for a decrease in compliance to zero and negative values, which makes it possible to use them not only as supports, but also as active deformation compensators of the technological system of machine tools in order to reduce the time and increase the accuracy of metalworking. The new idea of using active flow compensators is to regulate the flow rate not at the inlet, but at the outlet of the air flow. This design has the energy efficiency that is inherent to a conventional bearing, but the regulation of the lubricant output flow allows the compliance to be reduced to zero and negative values. This article discusses the results of a theoretical study of the static and dynamic characteristics of a two-row radial aerostatic bearing with longitudinal microgrooves and an output flow regulator. Mathematical modeling and theoretical study of stationary modes have been carried out. Formulas for determining static compliance and load capacity are obtained. Iterative finite-difference methods for determining the dynamic characteristics of a structure are proposed. The calculation of dynamic quality criteria was carried out on the basis of the method of rational interpolation of the bearing transfer function, as a system with distributed parameters, developed by the authors. It was found that the volumes of the microgrooves do not have a noticeable effect on the bearing dynamics. It is shown that, in this design, the external combined throttling system is an effective means of maintaining stability and high dynamic quality of the design operating in the modes of low, zero and negative compliance.

Constructing a micro-sized microfluidic motor always involves the problem of how to transfer the mechanical energy out of the motor. The paper presents several experiments with pot-like microfluidic rotational motor structures driven by two perpendicular sine and cosine vibrations with amplitudes around 10 μm in the frequency region from 200 Hz to 500 Hz. The extensive theoretical research based on the mathematical model of the liquid streaming in a pot-like structure was the base for the successful real-life laboratory application of a microfluidic rotational motor. The final microfluidic motor structure allowed transferring the rotational mechanical energy out of the motor with a central axis. The main practical challenge of the research was to find the proper balance between the torque, due to friction in the bearings and the motor’s maximal torque. The presented motor, with sizes 1 mm by 0.6 mm, reached the maximal rotational speed in both directions between −15 rad/s to +14 rad/s, with the estimated maximal torque of 0.1 pNm. The measured frequency characteristics of vibration amplitudes and phase angle between the directions of both vibrational amplitudes and rotational speed of the motor rotor against frequency of vibrations, allowed us to understand how to build the pot-like microfluidic rotational motor.

Abstract In this paper, a theoretical study is presented on enhancement of the solar still performance by using the exhaust gases passing inside a chimney under the still basin. The impact of the exhaust gases temperature on the solar still temperature, productivity, and efficiency are considered. The performance of solar still with chimney is compared with that of conventional solar still. The study is carried out under the hot and climate conditions of Upper Egypt. A complete transient mathematical model of the physical model including the solar still regions temperatures, productivity, and heat transfer between the solar still and the exhaust gases are constructed. The mathematical model is solved numerically by using fourth-order Runge-Kutta method and is programmed by using MATLAB. The mathematical model is validated using an experimental work. The results show that the solar still saline water temperature increases and productivity with using and rising the exhaust gases. Furthermore, the impact of using exhaust gases on the still performance in winter is greater than in summer. using chimney exhaust gases at 75 °C and 125 °C enhances the daily freshwater yield of the conventional still by more than three times and about six times in winter, respectively, and about two and half times and more than three times in summer, respectively.

For decades, journal bearings have been designed based on the half-Sommerfeld equations. The semi-analytical solution of the conservation equations for mass and momentum leads to the pressure distribution along the journal. However, this approach admits negative values for the pressure, phenomenon without experimental evidence. To overcome this, negative values of the pressure are artificially substituted with the vaporization pressure. This hypothesis leads to reasonable results, even if for a deeper understanding of the physics behind the lubrication and the supporting effects, cavitation should be considered and included in the mathematical model. In a previous paper, the author has already shown the capability of computational fluid dynamics to accurately reproduce the experimental evidences including the Kunz cavitation model in the calculations. The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results were compared in terms of pressure distribution with experimental data coming from different configurations. The CFD model was coupled with an analytical approach in order to calculate the equilibrium position and the trajectory of the journal. Specifically, the approach was used to study a bearing that was designed to operate within tight tolerances and speeds up to almost 30,000 rpm for operation in a gearbox.

This study experimentally analyses the binding characteristics of analytes mixed in liquid samples flowing along a micro-channel to the receptor fixed on the wall of the micro-channel to provide design tools and data for a microfluidic-based biosensor. The binding or detection characteristics are analyzed experimentally by counting the number of analytes bound to the receptor, with sample analyte concentration, sample flow rate, and the position of the receptor along the micro-channel length as the main variables. A mathematical model is also proposed to predict the number of analytes transported and bound to the receptor based on a probability density function for Brownian motion. The coefficient in the mathematical model is obtained by using a dimensionless mathematical model and the experimental results. The coefficient remains valid for all different conditions of the sample analyte concentration, flow rate, and the position of the receptor, which implies the possibility of deriving a generalized model. Based on the mathematical model derived from mathematical and experimental analysis on the detection characteristics of the microfluidic-based biosensor depending on previously mentioned variables and the height of the micro-channel, this study suggests a design for a microfluidic-based biosensor by predicting the binding efficiency according to the channel height. The results show the binding efficiency increases as the flow rate decreases and as the receptor is placed closer to the sample-injecting inlet, but is unaffected by sample concentration.

An analysis was made of the oil flows occurring in a full journal bearing with a continuous oil film. The flow rate into the bearing was determined at the section of greatest clearance and the rate of outflow was determined at the section of least clearance. The rate of side flow or leakage rate was determined by considering the flow across the boundary of the positive pressure area only and is the flow resulting from the hydrodynamic pressure gradients. It does not include the effects of any specific oil feed mechanism.

This paper first studied the feasibility in application and advantages of the the full metal single screw pump by the method of theoretical research . Then the paper deducted the motion characteristics of the rotor around the stator and flow rate of the metal single screw pump .It is pointed that the center of the rotor profile is always located in the long shaft of the section of stator in any section .As the rotor rotates, the center of the rotor profile on this section takes straight reciprocating motion along the long axis of stator section .The results indicate that it exists feasibility in the designing and processing of full metal single screw pump. Thereby it provides theoretical basis for the application of full metal screw pump.
