Island ecosystems have very specific physical, economic and socio-cultural characteristics, which are shared by most of these ecosystems regardless of their geographical area. These characteristics include well defined geographical boundaries that lead to a greater degree of isolation, lack of economically exploitable resources, great external dependence for consumption, cultural and natural heritage with a high uniqueness level and a high concentration of endemic plant and animal species. All of them are responsible for the high development dependence level linked to the tourism activity of these ecosystems. Thus, island ecosystems are currently an important international tourism destination, where a great diversity of very attractive natural and cultural resources and of great heritage value are concentrated. This fact allows for the development of tourism activities of great heterogeneity among countries or regions of the world that host these island ecosystems. The aim of this research was to identify and analyze, through a bibliometric and bibliographic analysis, the scientific production indexed in the international Scopus database, which addresses the subject of use of cultural and natural resources by tourism in island ecosystems. This scientific mapping allows us to observe the evolution of scientific production in this field of study. The results show that this is a new subject (a large number of transient authors), predominantly affiliated with the United States and Spain. The most followed research lines to date are destination management followed very far by responsible environmental behavior and the impacts of sustainable development. However, the keywords with the highest co-occurrence show that the hot topics are tourism exploitation in the ecotourism field and sustainable tourism development. This research is considered the first bibliometric study carried out which is related to this thematic approach, providing a clear in-depth analysis for researchers and thereby facilitating the approach of future research work.

Collecting information from previous investigations and expressing it in a scientometrics study can be a priceless guide to getting a complete overview of a specific research area. The aim of this study is to explore the interrelated connection between alginate, gelatine, and hydroxyapatite within the scope of bone tissue and scaffold. A review of traditional literature with data mining procedures using bibliometric analyses was considered to identify the evolution of the selected research area between 2009 and 2019. Bibliometric methods and knowledge visualization technologies were implemented to investigate diverse publications based on the following indicators: year of publication, document type, language, country, institution, author, journal, keyword, and number of citations. An analysis using a bibliometric study found that 7446 papers were located with the keywords “bone tissue” and “scaffold”, and 1767 (alginate), 185 (gelatine), 5658 (hydroxyapatite) papers with those specific sub keywords. The number of publications that relate to “tissue engineering” and bone more than doubled between 2009 (1352) and 2019 (2839). China, the United States and India are the most productive countries, while Sichuan University and the Chinese Academy of Science from China are the most important institutions related to bone tissue scaffold. Materials Science and Engineering C is the most productive journal, followed by the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research Part A. This paper is a starting point, providing the first bibliometric analysis study of bone tissue and scaffold considering alginate, gelatine and hydroxyapatite. A bibliometric analysis would greatly assist in giving a scientific insight to support desired future research work, not only associated with bone tissue engineering applications. It is expected that the analysis of alginate, gelatine and hydroxyapatite in terms of 3D bioprinting, clinical outcomes, scaffold architecture, and the regenerative medicine approach will enhance the research into bone tissue engineering in the near future. Continued studies into these research fields are highly recommended.

Abstract Background Sanitation issues have aroused widespread concern around the world, and scholars began research in this area as early as the 1920s. After decades of development, there is a great amount of research on this topic, and the body of research continues to grow rapidly. Methods Based on the Web of Science Core Collection databases from 1990–2019, this paper applies the bibliometric method to analyze the research characteristics and developments of scientific publications about sanitation. Visualized knowledge mapping is employed to investigate development status, scientific collaboration, involved disciplines, research hotspots and emerging trends of this field. Results The breadth and depth of sanitation studies has improved significantly as the number of related publications increases rapidly in the 21st century. The strength of developed countries is greater than that of developing countries; the comprehensive strength of the United States ranks first in the field, followed by England and Switzerland. This field is a highly interdisciplinary field that covers a wide range of interests, and institutional collaboration is increasing in this field. Keyword clustering analysis shows that the main research topics in the domain of sanitation could be summarized as: (a) drinking water; (b) sustainability; (c) biofilm; (d) epidemiology; and (e) WaSH. Meanwhile, keyword bursts analysis showed that the new research hotspots and research frontiers mainly concentrated on: (a) Sustainable development of sanitation services adapting to climate change; (b) Main determinants affecting child malnutrition; (c) Multinational research and model innovation; and (d) Evaluations on various aspects of performance. Conclusions Through in-depth analysis of sanitation research, this paper provides a better understanding of trends that have emerged over the past 30 years, and can serve as a reference for future research.

O rápido crescimento populacional e o aumento do consumo têm causado desafios econômicos, ambientais e sociais para a sustentabilidade do planeta. Sustentabilidade. Competitividade.   Abstract: The rapid population growth and increasing consumption have been causing economic, environmental and social challenges to the sustainability of the planet. The effects of anthropic action have intensified since the Industrial Revolution with the attribution of a linear economic model, based on the extraction and exploitation of natural resources, production and disposal of waste in the environment. A contrasting approach with this reality that has been gaining popularity, especially in the last decade, is the so-called Circular Economy. The bibliometric study carried out in this research aims to identify the scientific production related to the theme of Circular Economy, specifically in articles published between 2016 and 2020, providing directions and strategies for future research. The study showed a growth in scientific production in this period, mainly in the last two years, with a predominance of international studies, which can contribute to the dissemination of the Circular Economy theme, with the purpose of favoring the regeneration of natural resources. However, there is still a very large gap between Brazilian publications in relation to international ones, which suggests the need to invest in studies on the subject, in order to generate knowledge that supports the acceleration in the transition of linear models, engaging the economy of Brazilian organizations to the pillars of sustainable development in a more similar way to developed countries. This study revealed that the Circular Economy theme has been applied as an administrative practice aimed at reducing costs, improving competitiveness and sustainability. Keywords: Circular Economy. Sustainability. Competitiveness.

A presente pesquisa apresentou um recorte temporal mostrando algumas tendências para a área de catalogação, destacando-se a produção científica sobre o RDA.AbstractThe Resource Description and Access (RDA) is the new cataloging code designed to replace the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Second Edition (AACR²) for the purpose of improving the recovery of recorded knowledge in libraries. Abstract The experiences of refugees migrating to the United States are complex and can be revealing and informative. During the 2016–17 academic year, a refugee speaker series was implemented thorough a collaborative effort between a faith-based university and a same faith-based refugee resettlement programme. In their shared geographical area, these organizations possess long-standing, faith-oriented commitments to rights and services for refugees, making the endeavour viable. Using connected learning (Belenky et al.1997) as theoretical underpinning, researchers collected quantitative and qualitative data to identify and describe the participants’ perceived impact from attendance at a refugee speaker event. This information can be useful when considering pedagogy for examining issues confronting refugees, as many Americans struggle with knowledge about refugee experiences and adaptation. The article concludes with recommendations for future research.

The absence of quantitative data on published researches in political science preconditioned writing this work. The objective of the research was to study publications in political sciences using bibliometric analysis. Articles in political science published within the period of time from 1970 to 2018 have been separated from the database of the Web of Science (as of March 15, 2018). The acquired records have been analyzed according to the citation characteristics, with publications divisioned depending on the language, country, journal and author. There have been found over 222,5 thousand articles in total, which have been published in various peer-viewed journals. From 2007 to 2017 there was observed a significant increase in the number of articles published on this topic. Most articles are written in English (87.7%), with the United States of America being the leading country in terms of the total number of articles published (over 80 thousand, 35.3%). There is no obvious leader among journals with regard to the number of publications, but four publishers (ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL WEEKLY; NEW REPUBLIC; NEW SOCIETY and NATION) publish the majority of articles on this topic (over 15%) in aggregate. The analysis of the most cited publications allows dividing topics for research into three clusters: election as a part of the political process; transformation of political regimes; global influences and interactions. This research provides a systematic review of efficiency and ostensiveness of research work in the field of political sciences. Conclusions can be used for organizing and determining priorities of future research in political science.

The recent increase in the aging population, specifically in the United States, has raised concerns regarding treatment for mental illness among older adults. Late-life depression (LLD) is a complex condition that has become widespread among the aging population. Despite the availability of behavioral interventions and psychotherapies, few depressed older adults actually receive treatment. In this paper we review the research on refining treatments for LLD. We first identify evidence-based treatments (EBTs) for LLD and the problems associated with efficacy and dissemination, then review approaches to conceptualizing mental illness, specifically concepts related to brain plasticity and the Research Domain Criteria (RDoc). Finally, we introduce ENGAGE as a streamlined treatment for LLD and discuss implications for future research.

Abstract. Background: Given challenges that exceed the normal developmental requirements of adolescence, deaf and hard-of-hearing (DHH) youth are believed to be at elevated risk for engaging in suicide-related behavior (SRB). Unfortunately, little is known about the mechanisms that put these youth potentially at risk. Aims: To determine whether peer relationship difficulties are related to increased risk of SRB in DHH youth. Method: Student records (n = 74) were retrieved from an accredited educational center for deaf and blind students in the United States. Results: Peer relationship difficulties were found to be significantly associated with engagement in SRB but not when accounting for depressive symptomatology. Limitations: The restricted sample limits generalizability. Conclusions regarding risk causation cannot be made due to the cross-sectional nature of the study. Conclusion: These results suggest the need for future research that examines the mechanisms of the relationship between peer relationship difficulties, depression, and suicide risk in DHH youth and potential preventive interventions to ameliorate the risks for these at-risk youth.

Between 1820 and 1827 approximately 1,800 U.S. citizens immigrated to northern Mexico as part of that country’s empresario program, in which the federal government granted foreigners land if they promised to develop and secure the region. Historians have long argued that these settlers, traditionally seen as the vanguard of Manifest Destiny, were attracted to Mexico for its cheap land and rich natural resources. Such interpretations have lent a tone of inevitability to events like the Texas Revolution. This article argues that the early members of these groups were attracted to Mexico for chiefly political reasons. At a time when the United States appeared to be turning away from its commitment to a weak federal government, Mexico was establishing itself on a constitution that insured local sovereignty and autonomy. Thus, the Texas Revolution was far from the result of two irreconcilable peoples and cultures. Moreover, the role that these settlers played in the United States’ acquisition of not just Texas, but ultimately half of Mexico’s national territory, was more paradoxical than inevitable.
