Peoples’ understanding and appreciation of wildlife are crucial for its conservation. Nevertheless, environmental education in many tropical countries is seldom incorporated into public-school curricula and wildlife topics are often underrepresented. In this research we aimed to (1) assess the effects of an environmental education intervention focused on improving students’ awareness about wild vertebrates and their ecological functions and (2) to evaluate whether previous exposure to general environmental education could improve the effects of the intervention. We worked in four schools in a high-biodiversity shade-coffee-producing region in Mexico; two of the schools had received general environmental education as part of a Community Program, while the other two had not. In all schools we conducted a targeted intervention providing information about wild vertebrates and their ecological functions. Through questionnaires, we assessed students’ awareness before and after the intervention. We found that students’ awareness about wildlife was improved by our intervention, and that this effect was stronger in students that had attended the Community Program. Our results contribute to Sustainable Development Goals 11 and 15 by showing that targeted education interventions can help achieve specific conservation goals, and that previous community-based environmental education can condition peoples’ awareness, improving the assimilation and/or understanding of new concepts.

Abstract Background Antimicrobial stewardship initiatives and efforts have historically had a greater emphasis in the inpatient hospital setting. There is a need for outpatient stewardship, and additionally, accreditation standards are starting to require antimicrobial stewardship efforts in the ambulatory care setting. Fluoroquinolones are a target for antimicrobial stewardship based on their broad-spectrum activity, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, safety profile, downstream resistance, and risk of super infections. The objective of this study was to compare outpatient fluoroquinolone prescribing rates before and after pharmacist led initiative. Methods This was a prospective, quality improvement initiative between October 1, 2019 to June 1, 2020 at a community-based physician network across Indiana. The pharmacist initiative incorporated a live, educational presentation with intervention 1 and an informational letter to healthcare providers across the outpatient physician network with intervention 2. Data was collected from a computer-generated, prescription report. The primary outcome was fluoroquinolone prescribing rates at Central Indiana (CI) sites before and after pharmacist led interventions. Rate of fluoroquinolone prescribing was defined as total number of fluoroquinolone prescriptions per month. The secondary outcome included percentage of fluoroquinolone use at CI sites. Percentage of fluoroquinolone use was defined as monthly number of fluoroquinolones prescriptions compared to monthly number of all oral antibiotic prescriptions. Results There was a 29.8% decrease (382 vs 268 prescriptions) in outpatient fluoroquinolone prescriptions at CI sites after intervention 1 compared to same month of previous year. There was a 43.7% decrease (428 vs 241 prescriptions) in outpatient fluoroquinolone prescriptions at CI sites after intervention 2. There was an overall 2.4% decrease (4.9% vs 2.5%) in percentage of fluoroquinolone use compared to all oral antibiotics at CI sites after intervention 2 compared to same month of previous year. Conclusion These findings suggest the pharmacist led outpatient antimicrobial stewardship initiative successfully decreased fluoroquinolone prescribing rates across the network. AbstractEnvironmental education is concerned with developing both environmental knowledge and positive attitudes towards the environment. An experiential simulation activity about a native Australian bird was designed to develop both these aspects. The simulation was implemented with nine classes of 10-12 year old children. The children completed a survey before and after the simulation and their teachers reported on their responses. The results showed that the children developed additional knowledge of kookaburras and their survival and that their attitudes towards the environment became more positive. Moreover, the children themselves believed they had increased their knowledge and changed their feelings of responsibility towards the environment as a result of the simulation.

Stair climbing provides a feasible opportunity for increasing physical activity (PA) in daily living. The purpose of this study was to examine the daily walking and stair-climbing steps among healthy older adults (age: 74.0 ± 4.9 years; Body Mass Index (BMI): 22.3 ± 2.5 kg/m2). Participants (34 females and 15 males) attended a weekly 6-month community-based PA program. During the entire program period, daily walking and stair-climbing steps were recorded using a pedometer (Omron, HJA-403C, Kyoto, Japan). Before and after the 6-month program, height, body weight and leg muscle strength were assessed. After the 6-month program, the mean walking and stair-climbing steps in both women and men increased significantly (p ≤ 0.01). Daily stair-climbing steps increased about 36 steps in women and 47 steps in men. At the end of 6 months, only male participants had significant correlation between the number of stair steps and leg muscle strength (r = 0.428, p = 0.037). This study reported that healthy older adults attending the community-based PA program had regular stair-climbing steps during daily living. Promoting stair climbing as an exercise routine was feasible to increase their walking and stair-climbing steps.

Delivering community-based benefits is oftentimes cited to justify the high costs associated with hosting large-scale events. The current research is embedded in positive psychology to examine how an event impacts host community members’ PERMA domains, reflected through positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment. Adopting a longitudinal approach, the authors interviewed 15 host community members before and after a large-scale sport event to determine if and how the event impacted their well-being. The findings uncovered evidence that the event activated positive emotions, relationships, and meaning across both phases, and evidence of accomplishment within the postevent phase. The findings contribute to the knowledge by examining the links between large-scale sport events and well-being throughout the event lifecycle. This research forwards implications for event bidding committees, event organizers, and host community officials to maximize community well-being through hosting large-scale events and to help justify associated expenses from a social–psychological perspective.

ABSTRACT Objective: In the present paper we present an observational study of the implementation of a Neuropsychological Stimulation Program at an Elderly Day Care Center in low-educated participants with very similar backgrounds concerning social economic status. Methods: The implemented program tackled several dimensions, including daily orientation sessions, cognitive stimulation sessions twice a week, followed by movement sessions, and structured sessions conducted every two weeks. Cognitive Evaluation was performed before and after implementation of the program. Results: Results are discussed taking into consideration cognitive outputs as well as non-cognitive outputs and the specificities of community-based intervention. Conclusion: It was concluded that community-based intervention is set to become vital in promoting dementia prevention.

Over the past decade, research has consistently found that positive education interventions have a beneficial effect on mental health outcomes for students, such as improvements in life satisfaction and reduction of anxiety. While it is encouraging to see these changes in student mental health, the research has not yet adequately explored whether positive education interventions change a student’s understanding of wellbeing itself. Wellbeing literacy is a new construct within the field of positive education and is defined as the ability to understand the concept and language of wellbeing. This study examines whether student language and understanding of wellbeing changes following an intervention that trains teachers in the core principles of positive education. Students across grades five, six and seven (ages 11–13; n = 231) from three Australian schools provided brief written descriptions of their understanding of wellbeing before and after their teachers undertook an eight-month positive education intervention. Thematic analysis was used as the methodological tool to analyze student language and understanding of wellbeing. Inferential frequency-based statistical analyses were used to compare the pre-intervention and post-intervention responses. The results revealed that student understanding of wellbeing evolved in four key ways to become more: (1) detailed; (2) strength based; (3) expanded/multidimensional; and (4) relational. Post-intervention understanding of wellbeing was significantly more likely to include aspects of emotional management, strengths, coping, mindfulness and self-kindness. Implications, limitations and future directions are discussed.

<p><strong><em>Abstract.</em></strong><em> Organic village is the designation for the urban / rural are developing environmental management where whole communities to manage the environment by planting organic crops. Even they develop dengue mosquito eradication in a way that is natural to plant crops that are not favored by mosquitoes. Referring to the objectives to be achieved, the research program was designed with a "Research and Development", meaning that a program of research followed by development program for repair or improvements. To produce a prototype Organic Village Environmental Education As Model For Community-Based Early Childhood, taken systematic steps in the form of the process of action, reflection, evaluation and innovation by applying qualitative research methods, descriptive, development, experimentation and evaluation. This study aims to gain in-depth overview of the Organic Village Environmental Education As Model For Community-Based Early Childhood. Village of Krobokan becoming a pilot village for urban areas for environmental regulation. Every citizen of organic crops and other useful plants such as mosquito repellent plants, fruit trees, etc. In addition, it is promoting recycling bins, especially organic waste that leaves of trees that have fallen. The leaves are processed into compost, but before it becomes compost. These leaves, crushed in advance by using a grinding machine garbage. It is intended to order the leaves into small pieces, so that when inserted into the barrel composer of the leaf pieces faster into fertilizer. The finished compost directly used to fertilize plants that live in stalls in the village Krobokan. For environmental education in early childhood, conducted in three schools namely TK Pembina State Semarang, Semarang Lab School kindergarten and kindergarten An Nur Semarang. Bahkan mereka mengembangkan pemberantasan nyamuk dengue dengan cara alami untuk menanam tanaman yang tidak disukai oleh nyamuk. Mengacu pada tujuan yang ingin dicapai, program penelitian dirancang dengan "Penelitian dan Pengembangan", yang berarti bahwa program penelitian diikuti oleh program pengembangan untuk perbaikan atau perbaikan. Untuk menghasilkan prototipe Pendidikan Lingkungan Desa Organik Sebagai Model Untuk Anak Berbasis Anak Usia Dini, diambil langkah sistematis dalam bentuk proses tindakan, refleksi, evaluasi dan inovasi dengan menerapkan metode penelitian kualitatif, deskriptif, pengembangan, eksperimen dan evaluasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran mendalam tentang Pendidikan Lingkungan Desa Organik Sebagai Model Untuk Anak Usia Dini Berbasis Komunitas. Desa Krobokan menjadi desa percontohan untuk daerah perkotaan untuk pengaturan lingkungan. Setiap warga negara dari tanaman organik dan tanaman berguna lainnya seperti tanaman pengusir nyamuk, pohon buah-buahan, dll. Selain itu, mempromosikan sampah daur ulang, terutama sampah organik yang meninggalkan pohon yang telah jatuh. Daunnya diolah menjadi kompos, tetapi sebelum menjadi kompos. Daun-daun ini, dihancurkan terlebih dahulu dengan menggunakan mesin penggilingan sampah. Hal ini dimaksudkan untuk memesan daun menjadi potongan-potongan kecil, sehingga ketika dimasukkan ke dalam komposer barrel dari potongan daun lebih cepat menjadi pupuk. Kompos yang sudah jadi langsung digunakan untuk menyuburkan tanaman yang hidup di warung-warung di desa Krobokan. Untuk pendidikan lingkungan pada anak usia dini, dilakukan di tiga sekolah yaitu TK Pembina Negeri Semarang, TK Taman Kanak-Kanak Semarang dan TK An Nur Semarang. Approximately 15% of married or cohabiting women and as many as 60% of battered women are raped at least once by their partners. This study compared community-based counseling outcomes of battered women with outcomes of women who were both raped and battered by their partners. Over time, both groups improved in wellbeing and coping. Although those both battered and raped progressed more in counseling, they had lower scores before and after counseling compared to women who were battered only. Implications for research and intervention are discussed.
