ABSTRACTBackground Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria that can cause infection. Biduri leaf has antibacterial compound such as tannin, flavonoid, saponin, and polyphenol.Objective This study aimed to know the difference of growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at the various concentration of ethanol extract of biduri leaf and to determine an effective concentration.Methods This study was the true experiment with posttest only control design, used Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method with five concentrations (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%,100%), positive control (chloramphenicol 30 µg) and negative control (ethanol 96%).Result The result of this study showed the average of inhibition zone diameter of each concentration consecutively 26,2 mm, 28,3 mm, 29,7 mm, 31 mm and 31,5 mm. One Way Anova statistic analysis showed that the value of p is 0.000 so there is the difference of growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of ethanol extract of a biduri leaf.Conclusion The conclusion of this study is there are differences in growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of ethanol extract of biduri leaf and an effective concentration that can inhibit of Staphylococcus aureus is concentration 20% with mean inhibition zone is 26,2 mm. Keywords: ethanol extract of biduri leaf; Staphylococcus aureus; inhibition zone

AbstractBackground Staphylococcus aureus is one of causes infection and this bacteria have been resistence for many antibiotic. Bay leaf have antibacterials substance, which stew leaves can be treat infection caused Staphylococcus aureus. The purpose of this study was to determine differences in growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of water stew of bay leaf.Method The method of this study is true experiment with posstest only control design, and used Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method with various concentrations of water stewed of bay leaf (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%,100%), positive control (chloramfenicol 30 μg) and negative control (sterile distilled water). Result The result showed that the average diameter of inhibition zone in concentration 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100% is 7 mm, 8,4 mm, 9,6 mm, 10,5 mm and 11,5 mm. Based on statistical analysis using oneway ANOVA available the value of p (0,000) α (0,05), so the inhibition zone is significant difference of growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of stewed water bay leaf. Conclusion Water stew of bay leaf can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus, and there are differences in growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of water stew of bay leaf. Keywords: stew of bay leaf; Staphylococcus aureus; inhibition zone

<p><em>Streptococcus mutans</em> is a positive gram bacteria which cause dental caries. From the several previous studies, Gamal leaf has been predicted as the antibacterial agent because of their active substance such as tannins, alkaloids, saponins, and flavonoids. The objective of the study was to know the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Gamal leaf (<em>Gliricidia sepium</em>) for <em>Streptococcus mutans</em> in various concentrations. This study was a true experimental with post-test only control design. The determination of antibacterial activity in this study was conducted by using Kirby Bauer disk diffusion method with the various concentrations, there were 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80%. The positive and negative controls in this study were 30 µg disk diffusion of chloramphenicol and the 96% of ethanol. The average inhibition of zone diameter in the concentrations of 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80% were 11.3, 12.3, 13.4, 15.3 and 19.2 mm, respectively. One Way ANOVA statistical analysis showed that the value of p was 0.000, so there was a difference of growth inhibition zone of <em>Streptococcus mutans</em> in various concentrations of ethanol extract of Gamal leaf (<em>Gliricidia sepium</em>). Based on the result, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of Gamal leaf (<em>Gliricidia sepium</em>) have strong antibacterial activity, especially to <em>Streptococcus mutans</em> bacteria.</p>

ABSTRAK Kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman obat yang termasuk dalam keluarga Zingiberaceae. Senyawa aktif yang terkandung dalam rimpang kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) mampu bekerja sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan cara refluks menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi paper disk dengan masing-masing konsentrasi ekstrak 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% b/v. Kontrol positif yang digunakan adalah Ciprofloxacin sedangkan kontrol negatif yang digunakan adalah DMSO. Hasil skrining fitokimia ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, fenol, tanin dan terpenoid. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit dapat menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa pada konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% dan konsentrasi 40% merupakan konsentrasi yang memberikan diameter zona hambat terbesar terhadap kedua bakteri uji yaitu 8,63 mm dan 7,8 mm. Kata Kunci : aktivitas antibakteri, Curcuma longa L., Staphylococcus aureus,    ABSTRACT Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is one type of medicinal plant that belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. The active compounds contained in the Curcuma longa L. rhizome can work as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. Antibacterial activity testing was carried out using the paper disk diffusion method with each extract concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. The positive control used was Ciprofloxacin while the negative control used was DMSO. The results of phytochemical screening of the ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. rhizome contain alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins and terpenoids. Based on the results of the study, the ethanol extract of turmeric rhizome can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 40% concentrations which give the largest inhibition zone diameter of the two test bacteria which is 8.63 mm and 7.8 mm. DAYA HAMBAT EKSTRAK ETANOL Schismatoglottis sp. TERHADAP BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coliABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun Schismatoglottis sp. terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Daya hambat ekstrak etanol Schismatoglottis sp. terhadap bakteri menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer, yaitu metode difusi dengan cakram kertas. Ekstrak etanol Schismatoglottis sp. menghambat pertumbuhan S. aureus pada konsentrasi 60% dan 90% dengan diameter zona hambat 16,10 mm dan 31,33 mm serta  terhadap E. coli pada konsentrasi 30%, 60%, dan 90% dengan diameter zona hambat berturut-turut 11,72 mm, 16,38 mm, dan  29,27 mm. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol Schismatoglottis sp. terhadap S. aureus pada konsentrasi 60% dan 90% masing-masing memiliki kekautan antibakteri termasuk kategori kuat dan sangat kuat, sedangkan terhadap E. coli pada konsentrasi 30% dan 60%, memiliki kekuatan antibakteri kategoti kuat sedangkan pada konsentrasi 90% memiliki kekuatan antibakteri kategori sangat kuat. AGAINST BACTERIA Staphylococcus aureus AND Escherichia coli. ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the inhibition of ethanol extract of leaves Schismatoglottis sp. against S. aureus and E. coli. Inhibition of the ethanol extract of Schismatoglottis sp. against to bacterial using the Kirby-Bauer method, is the paper disk diffusion method. Schismatoglottis sp. ethanol extract inhibit the growth of S. aureus at a concentration of 60% and 90% inhibition zone with a diameter of 16.10 mm and 31.33 mm and against E. coli at a concentration of 30%, 60%, and 90% with inhibition zone diameter respectively 11, 72 mm, 16.38 mm and 29.27 mm. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract Schismatoglottis sp. against S. aureus at concentrations of 60% and 90% respectively have antibacterial kekautan categorized as strong and very strong, while against E. coli at a concentration of 30% and 60%, have a strong kategoti antibacterial strength while at a concentration of 90% has antibacterial strength very strong category. Introduction: Today, disinfection of surfaces by using antimicrobial agents is critical for the prevention and control of pathogens and reduction of infection in hospital. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effects of two disinfectants against Staphylococcus aureus isolated from the NICU of Shahid Sadoughi Hospital of Yazd in 2017. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross sectional study, bacterial culture of samples collected from different surfaces of the NICU and S. aureus isolates were identified using conventional biochemical tests. Peracetic acid and chlorine dioxide various concentrations were used as disinfectants. Their effects against Staphylococcus aureus were determined by Standard disc diffusion method. Data were analyzed by linear mixed models in SPSS version 23. Results: 39.39% of samples were found to be S. aureus infected. The mean diameter of growth inhibition zone for peracetic acid 0.1% was significantly lower than that for peracetic acid 0.2%, and peracetic acid 0.1% was significantly higher than that for chlorine dioxide (P < 0.001). The comparison of growth inhibition zone diameters for peracetic acid 0.1% and chlorine dioxide disinfectants showed that the average diameter of the inhibition zone created by peracetic acid 0.1% was significantly higher than that created by chlorine dioxide. The most effective disinfectant on S. aureus strains isolated was peracetic acid 0.2% and the least effective disinfectant was chlorine dioxide. Conclusion: In health care facilities with S. aureus infection, peracetic acid 0.2% can be used effectively to reduce nosocomial infection rate.

Jatropha multifida L. contains alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, saponins and phenolic acids that differ from each part of the plant and the content of these substances is what makes L. multifida Jatropha has a function as an antibacterial so that the leaf extract and the gap of chinese distance ( Jatropha multifida L.) allegedly capable of inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. The aim of this research was to know the effectivity of leaf extract and gum of Jatropha multifida L. to the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in vitro.Penelitian used true experimental post test design. Using disc diffusion method with concentration 25; 50; 75; and 100% v / v leaf and gum china distance. Positive control was used Clindamycin 5μg drip antibiotic paper disc. The data were analyzed descriptively. The result of the research showed the difference of different inhibition zone between treatments. In chinese leaf extracts showed different mean diameters, at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% with inhibit zone formed respectively 0 mm, 9.32 mm, and 17.48 mm and the highest inhibition zone at concentration of 100% with an average diameter of 22.24 mm. In the gap of chinese distance showed a different mean diameter, at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75% with the inhibit zone formed respectively 16.08 mm, 18.15 mm, and 18.63 mm and the highest inhibition zone at a concentration of 100% with an average diameter of 21.91 mm. Clindamycin positive controls show an average inhibit zone of 23.31 mm. It was concluded that there was an effect of leaf extract and resin of chinese distance plant (Jatropha multifida L.) on growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, and the best concentration was 100% concentration and almost closer to the inhibitory zone of Clindamycin antibiotics as positive control.

Writing the results of the study was conducted to assess the effectiveness comparison of the ethanol extract of basil leaves with garlic with a concentration of 5%, 10%, 15% of each extract against the growing power of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are gram-positive, cocci-shaped bacteria that live in colonies. These bacteria are normal flora in the human body that can harm humans. This study uses an experimental method with a post-test only design and the sample collection uses purposive sampling. The effectiveness test was carried out using the disk diffusion method, where the paper disc would be moistened with basil leaves ethanol extract of each concentration, is 5%, 10%, 15% and so was the ethanol extract of garlic. The results of the data obtained from this study continued with the Oneway-Anova test which will be continued with the Post-Hoc test, wherein the test there were significant differences from each treatment given. In bacteria treated with ethanol extract 15% basil leaves against Staphylococcus bacteria aureus, the effectiveness of the inhibition zone was found to be 9.2 mm in diameter where the inhibition zone was below the ethanol extract of 15% garlic which was 22.8 mm. Ethanol extract of 15% garlic has a good antimicrobial effect compared with ethanol extract of basil leaves 15% against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Backgraund. Officinal basis for the antibiotic ointments according to the 4th Yugoslav Pharmacopoeia is a hydrophobic base containing only aliphatic hydrocarbons. The fact that antibiotics are predominantly not lipophylic raises the question about the suitability of that particular type of the base for the manufacturing of antibiotic ointments. Recent studies of the lipid analysis of the skin corneal layer indicated that lipids had shown the bilamellar organization in the skin intercorneal space. Such structural organization could be seen in the ambiphylic bases whose structure was based on carefully selected emulsifier couple, consisting of the lyotropic and thermotropic liquid crystals. The aim of this study was to test the velocity of antibiotics (klindamycin hydrochloride, erythromycin base and chloramphenicol) release from the hydrophobic ointment-type bases, and from ambiphylic bases of anionic and non-ionic types. Methods. Membrane-free agar diffusion test as the basic method for testing the release velocity in vitro and Staphylococcus aureus as the strain highly susceptible to the chosen antibiotics were used. All the analyzed samples were manufactured as the suspension-type ointments. Results. The highest growth inhibition zone of the Staphylococcus aureus strain for all three analyzed antibiotics was achieved from the non-ionogenic ambiphylic base; the clear growth inhibition zone area for Staphylococcus aureus strain in the preparations containing anionic ambiphylic base was smaller by 10-31.28%, and in the preparations containing aliphatic hydrocarbon-type base, the decrease was 11.46-31.28%, compared to the results achieved with the non-ionogenic ambiphylic base. Conclusion. The optimal release velocity for the analyzed antibiotics was achieved from the non-ionic ambiphylic base.

Abstract Background: Infectious diseases caused by bacteria have a large impact on public health. Increasing in resistant microbial infections intensified the search for new, safer, and more efficacious agents to combat serious microbial infections. Plants have played a central part in combating many diseases in human and domestic animal in many local communities, including Africa. Rhamnus prinoides is Ethiopian medicinal plants that have been used traditionally for the treatment of diverse infectious diseases. Therefore, this research was carried out to evaluate antibacterial activity Rhamnus prinoides extracts against pathogenic bacteria. Methods: The antimicrobial activity tests were carried out by the agar well diffusion method. Broth dilution and streak plate methods were used to determine MIC and MBC of extracts respectively. Results: The results revealed that ethanol extracts of fruits showed the highest antibacterial activity against standard strains of S.aureus with mean inhibition zone of 26±0.58, 28.33±1.2 and 33.33±0.9mm at 25, 50 and 100mg/ml respectively. The lowest mean MIC value (1.04 mg/ml) was recorded with ethanol extract of fruits against standard strains of S. aureus and the lowest mean MBC value (2.08 mg/ml) was recorded with ethanol extract of fruits against standard strains and clinical isolates of S. aureu. Conclusion: On the basis of the current findings, Rhamnus prinoides could be a good candidate in the search for new antibacterial agents from natural products against bacterial pathogens. Therefore, further studies are needed to study their toxicology and isolate the bio- active components from this plant. Has conducted research on the effectiveness of various concentrations of noni leaf extract (Morinda citrifolia L.) And red betel leaf (Piper crocatum Ruiz & Pav) the growth inhibition zone of staphylococcus aureus. Inhibition test using paper disc diffusion method. Paper discs soaked in noni leaf extract and red betel leaf for 30 minutes and placed on media that has been spread bacteria staphylococcus aureus and then incubated for 24 hours. The results showed that noni leaf extract and red betel leaves with a concentration of 40%, 60% and 80% affecting large growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus.
