Writing the results of the study was conducted to assess the effectiveness comparison of the ethanol extract of basil leaves with garlic with a concentration of 5%, 10%, 15% of each extract against the growing power of the Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus bacteria are gram-positive, cocci-shaped bacteria that live in colonies. These bacteria are normal flora in the human body that can harm humans. This study uses an experimental method with a post-test only design and the sample collection uses purposive sampling. The effectiveness test was carried out using the disk diffusion method, where the paper disc would be moistened with basil leaves ethanol extract of each concentration, is 5%, 10%, 15% and so was the ethanol extract of garlic. The results of the data obtained from this study continued with the Oneway-Anova test which will be continued with the Post-Hoc test, wherein the test there were significant differences from each treatment given. In bacteria treated with ethanol extract 15% basil leaves against Staphylococcus bacteria aureus, the effectiveness of the inhibition zone was found to be 9.2 mm in diameter where the inhibition zone was below the ethanol extract of 15% garlic which was 22.8 mm. Ethanol extract of 15% garlic has a good antimicrobial effect compared with ethanol extract of basil leaves 15% against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

ABSTRAK Kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) merupakan salah satu jenis tanaman obat yang termasuk dalam keluarga Zingiberaceae. Senyawa aktif yang terkandung dalam rimpang kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) mampu bekerja sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri dari ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit (Curcuma longa L.) terhadap Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Ekstraksi dilakukan dengan cara refluks menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Pengujian aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan menggunakan metode difusi paper disk dengan masing-masing konsentrasi ekstrak 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% b/v. Kontrol positif yang digunakan adalah Ciprofloxacin sedangkan kontrol negatif yang digunakan adalah DMSO. Hasil skrining fitokimia ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit mengandung alkaloid, flavonoid, fenol, tanin dan terpenoid. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, ekstrak etanol rimpang kunyit dapat menghambat bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Pseudomonas aeruginosa pada konsentrasi 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% dan konsentrasi 40% merupakan konsentrasi yang memberikan diameter zona hambat terbesar terhadap kedua bakteri uji yaitu 8,63 mm dan 7,8 mm. Kata Kunci : aktivitas antibakteri, Curcuma longa L., Staphylococcus aureus,    ABSTRACT Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is one type of medicinal plant that belongs to the Zingiberaceae family. The active compounds contained in the Curcuma longa L. rhizome can work as antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. Antibacterial activity testing was carried out using the paper disk diffusion method with each extract concentration of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%. The positive control used was Ciprofloxacin while the negative control used was DMSO. The results of phytochemical screening of the ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. rhizome contain alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, tannins and terpenoids. Based on the results of the study, the ethanol extract of turmeric rhizome can inhibit Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria at concentrations of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40% and 40% concentrations which give the largest inhibition zone diameter of the two test bacteria which is 8.63 mm and 7.8 mm. DAYA HAMBAT EKSTRAK ETANOL Schismatoglottis sp. TERHADAP BAKTERI Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coliABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun Schismatoglottis sp. terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dan Escherichia coli. Daya hambat ekstrak etanol Schismatoglottis sp. terhadap bakteri menggunakan metode Kirby-Bauer, yaitu metode difusi dengan cakram kertas. Ekstrak etanol Schismatoglottis sp. menghambat pertumbuhan S. aureus pada konsentrasi 60% dan 90% dengan diameter zona hambat 16,10 mm dan 31,33 mm serta  terhadap E. coli pada konsentrasi 30%, 60%, dan 90% dengan diameter zona hambat berturut-turut 11,72 mm, 16,38 mm, dan  29,27 mm. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol Schismatoglottis sp. terhadap S. aureus pada konsentrasi 60% dan 90% masing-masing memiliki kekautan antibakteri termasuk kategori kuat dan sangat kuat, sedangkan terhadap E. coli pada konsentrasi 30% dan 60%, memiliki kekuatan antibakteri kategoti kuat sedangkan pada konsentrasi 90% memiliki kekuatan antibakteri kategori sangat kuat. AGAINST BACTERIA Staphylococcus aureus AND Escherichia coli. ABSTRACT This study aimed to determine the inhibition of ethanol extract of leaves Schismatoglottis sp. against S. aureus and E. coli. Inhibition of the ethanol extract of Schismatoglottis sp. against to bacterial using the Kirby-Bauer method, is the paper disk diffusion method. Schismatoglottis sp. ethanol extract inhibit the growth of S. aureus at a concentration of 60% and 90% inhibition zone with a diameter of 16.10 mm and 31.33 mm and against E. coli at a concentration of 30%, 60%, and 90% with inhibition zone diameter respectively 11, 72 mm, 16.38 mm and 29.27 mm. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract Schismatoglottis sp. against S. aureus at concentrations of 60% and 90% respectively have antibacterial kekautan categorized as strong and very strong, while against E. coli at a concentration of 30% and 60%, have a strong kategoti antibacterial strength while at a concentration of 90% has antibacterial strength very strong category. ABSTRACTBackground Staphylococcus aureus is a pathogenic bacteria that can cause infection. Biduri leaf has antibacterial compound such as tannin, flavonoid, saponin, and polyphenol.Objective This study aimed to know the difference of growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at the various concentration of ethanol extract of biduri leaf and to determine an effective concentration.Methods This study was the true experiment with posttest only control design, used Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method with five concentrations (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%,100%), positive control (chloramphenicol 30 µg) and negative control (ethanol 96%).Result The result of this study showed the average of inhibition zone diameter of each concentration consecutively 26,2 mm, 28,3 mm, 29,7 mm, 31 mm and 31,5 mm. One Way Anova statistic analysis showed that the value of p is 0.000 so there is the difference of growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of ethanol extract of a biduri leaf.Conclusion The conclusion of this study is there are differences in growth inhibition zone of Staphylococcus aureus at various concentrations of ethanol extract of biduri leaf and an effective concentration that can inhibit of Staphylococcus aureus is concentration 20% with mean inhibition zone is 26,2 mm. Keywords: ethanol extract of biduri leaf; Staphylococcus aureus; inhibition zone

Introduction: Individuals with poor oral health have a greater risk factor for systemic diseases. Caries, periodontal disease, and root canal infections are a common dental and oral diseases caused by dominance of Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Enterococcus faecalis bacteria (S. mutans, P. gingivalis, and E. faecalis). An alternative way to prevent dental and oral diseases is to use herbal medicine as one of the active ingredients for mouthwash or toothpaste. One of the herbs that can be used is Beluntas leaves (Pluchea indica (L.) Less leaves). The objective of study was to analyze the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Pluchea indica (L.) Less leaves on the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Enterococcus faecalis. Methods: This research was experimental laboratory with post test only control design, using disk diffusion method. There were five concentrations (2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5%, positive controls, and negative controls. Data analysis was performed using One Way Anova and post Hoc test. Results: The ethanol extract of Pluchea indica (L.) Less leaves has moderate-strong antibacterial activity against Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Enterococcus faecalis. The largest diameter of inhibitory zone in Enterococcus faecalis at a concentration of 6.5% followed by Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis at the same concentration and the smallest diameter of inhibition zone in Porphyromonas gingivalis, followed by Enterococcus faecalis and Streptococcus mutans at 2.5% concentration. Conclusion: The ethanol extract of Pluchea indica (L.) Less leaves with a concentration of 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5% has antibacterial activity in inhibiting the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Enterococcus faecalis.

Jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lamk.) have health benefits as an antimicrobial. The leaves contain flavonoids, tannins, saponins which act as antimicrobials. The purpose of this study was to study the potential antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus Lamk.) On the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Salmonella typhi. This research conducted with an experimental method that included the collection and processing of samples, the examination of the simplicia characterization and phytochemical screening. The concentration of jackfruit leaf ethanol extract. Used was at a concentration of 500 mg mL, 400 mg/mL, 300 mg/mL, 200 mg/mL, 100 mg/mL, 100 mg/mL, 50 mg/mL , 25 mg/mL, 10 mg/mL 30 mg/ml chloramphenicol and blanks. Using the disk diffusion method to measure the clear zone against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Salmonella typhi. Antimicrobial inhibition of ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria at a concentration of 500 mg/mL has a strong antibacterial inhibition with a diameter of 10.8 mm. The bacteria Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus epidermidis, and Salmonella typhi at a concentration of 500 mg/mL have inhibitory power, 9.2 mm, 9.6 mm, and 8.8 mm in the medium category. Positive control chloramphenicol has powerful antibacterial inhibition with an inhibition zone diameter of 28.6 mm.

Staphylococcus aureus merupakan salah satu bakteri penyebab bakteremia. Bakteremia dapat diatasi dengan menggunakan pengobatan tradisional yang lebih aman, salah satu alternatifnya dengan menggunakan daun Annona squamosa L. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk mengetahui daya hambat ekstrak etanol daun A. squamosa L. dan mengetahui konsentrasi optimal dari ekstrak etanol daun A. squamosa L. dalam menghambat pertumbuhan S. aureus. Penelitian menggunakan desain analitik eksperimental dengan pendekatan Post Test with Control. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Bakteriologi STIKES Nasional Surakarta pada bulan Februari hingga Mei 2018. Sampel penelitian adalah ekstrak etanol daun A. squamosa L. dengan konsentrasi 12,5%, 25% dan 50%. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah quota sampling. Hipotesis dilakukan dengan One-way Anova, dilanjutkan uji Post Hoc dengan metode Duncan’s Multiple Range Test. Dari penelitian dijumpai diameter zona radikal 8,17 mm pada konsentrasi 12,5%; 9,57 mm pada konsentrasi 25%, dan 10,58 mm pada konsentrasi 50%. Uji Anova diperoleh hasil signiÞ kan yang artinya terdapat beda nyata diantara semua perlakuan. Ekstrak etanol daun A. squamosa L. mampu menghambat pertumbuhan S. aureus, namun belum seoptimal ciprofloxacin. Bacterimia can be prevented with traditional medicine which is safer, one of which is using the leaves of Annona squamosa L. The purpose of this research is to discover the inhibition test of ethanol extract of A. squamosa L. leaves and knowing the optimal concentration of ethanol extracts with A. squamosa L. leaves in inhibiting the growth of S. aureus. This study is an analytic experimental design and post test with control. The research was done during February to May 2018 at Bacteriological Laboratory of STIKES Nasional. The sample of this research is ethanol extract of A. squamosa L. leaves in 12,5%, 25%, and 50% concentration. Hypothesis test is done with One-way Anova, post hoc test followed by Duncan’s Multiple Range Test method. The result of this study has been found radical zone diameter in 12,5%, 25%, 50% concentration are 8,77 mm, 9,57 mm, 10,58 mm. The result Anova test is found to be signiÞ cant, which means there is real difference between all variance treatment. Ethanol extract of A. squamosa L. leaves has inhibition power against the growth of S. aureus with well diffusion method. Startfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) is one the kind of plant that is widely used as a traditional herbal medicineto overcome various diseases i.e. diabetes mellitus, cough, rheumatism, thrush, diabetes, toothache, acne, etc. The secondary metabolites of the starfruit leaves contain flavonoids and tannins, whereby these activecompounds can be used as an antibacterial. This study aimed to determine the inhibiting power of starfruit leaf ethanol extract against Staphylococcus epidermidis at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The research was conducted at the  AKAFARMA Laboratory and the Chemistry Laboratory , Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Syiah Kuala University from June to July 2020. The research method was laboratory experimental using the disk diffusion method. The population of starfruit leaves was obtained from Lhokseumawe  using a purposive sampling technique. Ethanol extract of starfruit leaves with concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. The diameter of the inhibition zone of the ethanol extract  from the starfruit leaves at  concentrations of 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25% were 15 mm, 12 mm, 11 mm and 10 mm, respectively. It can be concluded that  ethanol extract of starfruit leaves can inhibit the growth  of  Staphylococcus  epidermidis  with  a  maximum inhibitory concentration  of  100%,  which is classified  as a strong category.

Saluang Belum (Luvunga sarmentosa Kurz) adalah tumbuhan yang dikenal sebagai obat tradisional di Kalimantan Tengah. Batang L. sarmentosa Kurz dipercayai memiliki manfaat secara empiris sebagai antioksidan yang dimanfaatkan sebagai anti-aging (anti penuaan dini). Batang L. sarmentosa Kurz mengandung metabolit sekunder yaitu tanin, saponin, steroid dan flavonoid yang diduga memiliki aktivitas sebagai antibakteri. Berdasarkan khasiat empiris dan kandungan metabolit sekunder yang ada dalam tumbuhan L. sarmentosa Kurz, maka dilakukan penelitian tentang aktivitas daya hambat ekstrak etanol tumbuhan ini terhadap bakteri P. acnes yang merupakan salah satu bakteri penyebab jerawat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas daya hambat ekstrak etanol batang L. sarmentosa Kurz terhadap bakteri P.acnes. Metode penelitian yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini dimulai dari pengambilan simplisia, pembuatan ekstrak etanol dengan metode perkolasi dan uji daya hambat dengan menggunakan metode Disk Difusion yang menggunakan kontrol positif antibiotik klindamicin. Analisis data dilakukan dengan membandingkan lebar zona hambat dari ekstrak etanol batang L. sarmentosa Kurz  dengan kategori penghambatan antimikroba klindamisin berdasarkan diameter zona hambat dari Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute.  Hasil uji daya hambat didapatkan zona hambat ekstrak etanol batang Saluang Belum pada semua konsentrasi 0,5%, 1%, 5%, 10% dan 15% secara berturut-turut yaitu  Intermediate, Resistant, Intermediate, Susceptible dan Susceptible dan hasil dari zona hambat klindamicin pada semua konsentrasi 0,5%,1%,5%,10%,dan 15% adalah susceptible. Simpulan dari penelitian ini adalah ekstrak etanol batang L. sarmentosa Kurz mempunyai kemampuan dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri P.acnes.           Kata Kunci: Obat Tradisional, Jerawat, Uji Daya Hambat, Propionibacterium acnes, Batang Saluang Belum Saluang belum (Luvunga sarmentosa Kurz) is one of traditional medicine in Central Kalimantan. The stem of L. sarmentosa Kurz is believed to have empirical benefits as an antioxidant which is used as anti-ageing (anti-ageing). The stem of L. sarmentosa Kurz contains secondary metabolites, namely tannins, saponins, steroids and flavonoids which are thought to have antibacterial activity. Based on the empirical properties and the content of secondary metabolites in L. sarmentosa Kurz, a study was conducted on the inhibitory activity of this plant's ethanol extract against P. acnes, which is one of the bacteria that causes acne. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory activity of the ethanol extract of L. sarmentosa Kurz stem against P.acnes bacteria. The research method carried out in this study started from taking simplicia, making ethanol extract using the percolation method and the inhibition test using the disk diffusion method which used a positive control of the clindamycin antibiotic. Data analysis was performed by comparing the inhibition zone width of the ethanol extract of L. sarmentosa Kurz stem with the clindamycin antimicrobial inhibition category based on the inhibition zone diameter of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. The results of the inhibition test obtained the inhibition zone of Saluang Belum stem ethanol extract at all concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, 5%, 10% and 15% respectively, Intermediate, Resistant, Intermediate, Susceptible and Susceptible and the results of the inhibition zone. Clindamycin at all concentrations of 0.5%, 1%, 5%, 10%, and 15% are susceptible. This research concludes that the ethanol extract of L. sarmentosa Kurz stem can inhibit the growth of P.acnes bacteria.

This study aims to examine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract and essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves (Citrofortunella microcarpa) against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli bacteria. The raw material of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained from the Village of Pondok Kubang, Bengkulu Tengah (3.70060S, 102.35780E). Ethanol extract from Kalamansi citrus leaves was obtained by maceration using ethanol 96%, then ethanol extract was made dilution concentration 40 ; 20; , 10; and 5%. The essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is obtained by water-vapor distillation, then made variations of concentration 20;, 15;, 10;  and 5%. The method used to test the antibacterial activity is the paper disc diffusion method , the antibacterial activity is shown by the diameter of the inhibiting  zone formed. The data of antibacterial test result were analyzed by using One Way Anova test which showed the effect of treatment on the growth of test bacteria seen from the value (P <0,01) and continued by Duncan test to know the effect of the treatment. The results showed that ethanol extract of Kalamansi citrus leaves had antibacterial activity against S. aureus and E. coli bacteria with moderate inhibitory diameter is  7.20 and 5.73 mm at concentration 40%, while antibacterial activity on essential oil of Kalamansi citrus leaves is categorized as strong with inhibition zone diameter is 14.83 and 13.00 mm at concentration 20%.

ABSTRAK Tanaman kemangi banyak dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat untuk pengobatan infeksi khususnya bagian daun. Hal ini dikarenakan daun kemangi memiliki senyawa aktif seperti minyak atsiri, alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, triterpenoid, steroid, tannin dan fenol yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri. Tujuan penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui ada tidaknya aktivitas, mengetahui diameter zona hambat dan mengetahui klasifikasi kekuatan aktivitas daya hambat antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun kemangi. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian eksperimental dengan metode difusi lubang sumuran dengan teknik pengambilan sampel adalah purposive sampling.  Konsentrasi ekstrak yang digunakan yaitu konsentrasi 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, sedangkan untuk kontrol positif digunakan klindamisin 30µg, dan kontrol negatif yang digunakan etanol 96%. Hasil diameter zona hambat yang terbentuk diukur dengan jangka sorong. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun kemangi memiliki aktivitas dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Staphylococcus aureus dengan diameter rata-rata yang didapat dari setiap perlakuan yaitu 100% (10,08 mm), 80% (8,10 mm), 60% (6,49 mm), 40% (4,29 mm), 20% (2,26 mm), dan sebagai klasifikasi kekuatan aktivitas daya hambat antibakteri yaitu pada konsentrasi 100% kuat, 80%-60% sedang dan 40%-20% lemah. Kata Kunci : Daun kemangi, Ekstrak, Difusi, Staphylooccus aureus  ABSTRACT Part of the basil plant (Ocimum sanctum L.) that widely used by people for treatment of infections is basil leaves. This is because basil leaves have active compounds such as essential oils, alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, triterpenoids, steroids, tannins and phenols which can inhibit bacterial growth. This research aimed to find out the presence or absence of activity, to determine the diameter of the inhibitory zone and the classification of antibacterial mention against what the name of bacterial is activity of ethanol extract of basil leaves. The type of this research is experimental research with a well diffusion method with sampling technique is purposive sampling. The concentration of extracts used were concentrations of 100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, 20%, while as positive control is  clindamycin 30µg, and the negative control used 96% ethanol. The resulting diameter of the inhibition zone is measured by the calipers.  The results showed that the ethanol extract of basil leaves had an activity in inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria with an average diameter obtained from each treatment that was 100% (10,08mm); 80% (8,10mm); 60% (6,49mm); 40% (4,29mm); 20% (2,26mm), and as the antibacterial activity classification, that were strong in 100% of extract concentration, medium in 60-80% of extract concentration, and weak in 20-40% of extract concentration. Keywords : Basil leaf, Extract, Diffusion, Staphylooccus aureus
