In 1968, Sugimura and Yanagawa described a small 25 nm virus like particle in association with the Matsuda strain of infectious canine hepatitis virus (ICHV). Domoto and Yanagawa showed that this particle was dependent on ICHV for its replication in primary dog kidney cell cultures (PDK) and was resistant to heating at 70°C for 10 min, and concluded that it was a canine adeno-associated virus (CAAV). Later studies by Onuma and Yanagawa compared CAAV with the known human serotypes (AAV 1, 2, 3) and AAV-4, known to be associated with African Green Monkeys. Using the complement fixation (CF) test, they found that CAAV was serologically related to AAV-3 and had wide distribution in the dog population of Japan.

Colocasia esculenta is commonly known as Taro, it is referred to as cocoyam in Nigeria. They are cherished for their rich taste, nutritional and medicinal properties. Every 100 g of taro corms possess 112 Kcal, 26.46 g carbohydrate, 1.50 g protein, 0.20 g total fat and 4.1g fiber (USDA National Nutrient Data Base). Besides its nutritional value, taro is used as a medical plant and provides bioactive compounds used as an anti-cancer drugs. Traditionally, cocoyams are vegetative propagated from tuber fragments, a practice that encourages pathogen distribution. Colocasia esculenta is a widely distributed food crop in the humid tropics and subtropics. Despite of its wide distribution, Taro plants are commonly infected with DsMV and other pathogens. This virus induces conspicuous mosaic, malformation, dwarfing or feathering on leaves in taro. As the results of infection, it reduces the quality and yield of taro production greatly. This virus is thus considered as a major limiting factor in the production of taro. Here plays the importance of  tissue culture plays a major role in producing the disease resistant plants round the year with high quality. For rapid multiplication and production of quality planting materials, tissue culture technology offers promising alternative compared to the traditional production methods. The rediscovery of the original, unedited Latin manuscript of Georg Wilhelm Steller's “De bestiis marinis” (“On marine mammals”), first published in 1751, calls for a new translation into English. The main part of the treatise contains detailed descriptions of four marine mammals, but the introduction is devoted to more general issues, including innovative speculation on morphology, ecology and biogeography, anticipating arguments and concepts of modern biology. Steller noted early that climate and food have a direct influence on body size, pelage and functional traits of mammals, potentially affecting reversible changes (phenotypic plasticity). Feeding and other behavioural habits have an impact on the geographical distribution of mammals. Species with a broad diet tend to have a wide distribution, whereas animals with a narrow diet more likely have only a restricted range. According to Steller, both sea and land then still concealed countless animals unknown to science.

Abstract Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a neglected tropical disease with a wide distribution in the Americas. Brazil is an endemic country and present cases in all states. This study aimed to describe the occurrence, the underlying clinical and epidemiological factors, and the correlation of climatic variables with the frequency of reported CL cases in the municipality of Caxias, state of Maranhão, Brazil. This is a retrospective and descriptive epidemiological study based on data extracted from the Brazilian Information System of Diseases Notification, from 2007 to 2017. Maximum and minimum temperature, precipitation, and relative air humidity data were provided by the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology. A total of 201 reported autochthonous CL cases were analyzed. The predominance of cases was observed in males (70.1%). The age range between 31 and 60 years old was the most affected, with 96 cases (47.9%). Of the total number of registered cases, 38.8% of the affected individuals were engaged in agriculture-related activities. The georeferenced distribution revealed the heterogeneity of disease occurrence, with cases concentrated in the Western and Southern regions of the municipality. An association was detected between relative air humidity (monthly mean) and the number of CL cases per month (p = 0.04). CL continues to be a concerning public health issue in Caxias. In this context, there is a pressing need to strengthen measures of prevention and control of the disease through the network of health services of the municipality, considering local and regional particularities.

Fungi have a great diversity and wide distribution at the world. It can be used as the alternative technology for controlling of subterranean termite attack, particularly genus Coptotermes knowned as the wooden destructive organism, by using entomophatogenic fungi. For the purpose of the study, several isolate sources were taken from some locations. The results show that eight numbers of pathogenic fungi was founded by screening and identification of fungi taken from 19 numbers of isolate sources. The pathogenic fungi were Beauveria sp., Penicillium brevicompactum, P. rubrum, Paecilomyces fulvus, Fusarium verticolloides, Pythium sp., and Aspergillus sp. A large number of biologically active substances, organic acids, tannins, and pectin substances were detected during the study of fruits, leaves, and pulp of the fruits of mountain Ash. The content of these substances in leaves and pulp will significantly expand the arsenal of medicinal plant raw materials used. Given the wide distribution of mountain Ash in the territory of the Russian Federation, harvesting leaves from the same plants after harvesting the fruit and using pulp will make it possible to obtain new phytopreparations.

Bolshevik Isl. is the one of the largest islands within the Severnaya Zemlya archipelago. It is situated in the southern part of the polar desert zone. In the course of three field work trips in 1997, 1998 and 2000 years 252 relevees were made in its southern part on three geomorphologic surfaces: coastal plain, inner upland close to glacier and ancient high river terraces. As the result 27 syntaxonomical units of different rank (15 associations, 2 subassociations, 2 variants, and 8 community types) were described using Braun-Blanquet approach. All syntaxa, except one, are new and mostly similar to communities described on Franz Josef Land. The problems were to put new syntaxa into the higher level units (including class) within the syntaxonomical hierarchy. The main bulk of syntaxa, both zonal and intrazonal ones, has to be preliminary placed into Salicetea herbaceae class although there is a lot of reasons to consider zonal syntaxa as a new class that is specific for the polar desert zone. In any case, there are no one syntaxon that can be referred to Loiseleurio-Vaccinietea class that combines zonal vegetation in the tundra zone. The wide ecological range of great majority of species as well as the changes of their intralandscape distribution compare to the tundra zone made additional difficulties in finding character and differential species. 340 species (vascular plants — 52, mosses — 97, liverworts — 41, lichens — 150), that compiles 73 % of the whole island flora and 84 % of its southern part, were recorded within the all relevees. Almost half of these (182) are very rare on the island and 127 species were met 1—2 times. There are 70 species with wide ecological range throughout all landscape types with such commonly distributed herbs as Saxifraga cernua, S. hyperborea and Stellaria ed­ward­sii, mosses Polytrichastrum alpinum and Sanionia uncinata and lichen Stereocaulon rivulorum among these. Phippsia algida, the character species for snow bed communities, occurs in about 70 % of syntaxa. Useful for differentiation of syntaxa have been appeared 87 species. Few species with wide distribution within a landscape demonstrate their preference to a certain syntaxon by higher abundance (preferential character species). These are mostly bryophytes: mosses Bryum cryophilum and Grimmia torquata, and liver­worts Gymnomitrion corallioides, Marsupella arctica and Scapania crassiretis. Cryptogam species predo­minate in the whole flora as well as in each syntaxon. The number of species varies from 12 to 70 per sample plots 5÷5 m and from 20 to 195 in different syntaxa. The richest in species (70 per community and about 190 for association) are zonal plant communities on the accumulative coastal plain in the region of Sol­nechnaya Bay, the poorest one, with 10 and 20 species consequently, is ass. Hygrohypno polari—Saxifragetosum hyperboreae that was described on the upland, close to glacier in the inner part of island.

Two computer data bases were formed: reference base «Prodromus» including the nomenclature forest syntaxa and experienced geobotanic releves «Forests of European Russia». Ecological, coenotic and floristic analysis of broadleaved-coniferous forests mostly corresponding to association Rhodobryo rosei – Piceetum abietis Korotkov 1986 was conducted with these bases. Releves (305) from South taiga and broadleaved-coniferous subzone were used. The analysis revealed complex syntaxonomy, bo­real-nemoral character and wide distribution ass. Rhodobryo-Piceetum from central European Russia. Ecolo­gical comparison of this association with some no­men­clature types of broadleaved-coniferous communities in East Europe was carried out. Preliminary prodromus for Euro­pean Russian mixed forests is suggested. Role of ecologi­cal, succession and regional factors was shown for dif­ferentiation of syntaxa.
