Purpose – One of the commonly cited problems in the implementation of quality practices is related to cultural resistance to change. While the importance of organizational culture to quality management (QM) practices has been recognized in the recent literature, little is known about how quality culture influences quality performance. The purpose of this paper is to examine the mechanism of how the nurture of quality culture in a firm influences quality performance. Design/methodology/approach – This study empirically assesses the path from quality culture to infrastructure practices, core practices, and finally to quality performance using data collected from 397 Chinese manufacturing firms in a structural equitation model. Findings – The results indicate a chain effect that quality culture serves as an antecedent for infrastructure practices to take effect and infrastructure practices provide a supporting foundation for core practices to generate positive impact on quality performance. Anything that breaks on the chain will cause a problem in quality practices implementation. Originality/value – The results of this study contribute to understanding the cultural implications for successful QM implementation. The study emphasizes that quality implementation needs to be considered as a system work where culture is an indispensible part. This offers practical insights of how firms operating in China could build quality advantages other than cost.

Abstract Background: The concept of providing individuals with a ‘voice’ via stakeholder involvement has been advocated within English health care policy for several decades. Stakeholder involvement encourages people affected by an issue to contribute to planning and decision making regarding treatment and care, inclusive of providers and recipients of care. This paper explores stakeholder involvement within the commissioning of public health alcohol services and illustrates whether stakeholders perceived that meaningful involvement had taken place. Methods: We conducted a qualitative case study, inclusive of in-depth interviews with 10 Alcohol commissioners, 11 alcohol service providers and 6 general practitioners plus three facilitated focus groups with 31 alcohol service users. All interviews and focus groups were audio-recorded and data were transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis drawing on Arnstein’s theory was used to discuss key issues related to participants involvement which are illuminated using direct quotes. Results: Overall findings suggest that most participants were aware of and could name various methods of stakeholder involvement, methods varied from formal strategically imposed mechanisms to innovative opportunities. We found that strategic mechanisms of involvement focused on collating data to help construct a national picture regarding service delivery. Using Arnstein’s ladder to illustrate the extent of stakeholder involvement, the majority of the participants perceived involvement to occur at the level of informing or consultation implying a level of tokenism. In addition, the impact of stakeholder involvement is not systematically monitored making it hard to identify the impact that involvement methods have had. Conclusion: This paper has shown a lack of consistency regarding the opportunities within the commissioning process for stakeholder involvement to influence service design and delivery. It is essential within public health that a deeper understanding is generated of who stakeholders are within this complex and fluid environment and to develop a clearer understanding of the different roles that stakeholders can play within the entire commissioning process in order to maximise its utility. Future commissioning guidance also needs to reflect more dimensionality than ladders of involvement currently afford.

Twitter is one of the world's most popular social media websites, and company spending on social media is rapidly increasing. One area of investment for companies in social media is customer service, but many marketers struggle to understand how micro-blogging can be integrated into customer service efforts. The purpose of this chapter is to explore customer service interaction on micro-blogs by understanding company and customer expectations on Twitter. The authors examine (1) whether gaps in service expectations exist between consumers and companies in a customer service scenario and (2) the impact of specific customer service response configurations on these consumer-company expectation gaps. Results of a study of Twitter users and customer service providers suggest that differences exist between customers' expectations of customer service on Twitter and companies' understanding of these expectations. The authors discuss how managers can use their understanding of these differences to make better decisions about service delivery through Twitter and other social media websites.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the prevalence of the application of standards and their positive influence on the efficiency and competitiveness of Slovenian logistics service providers. Moreover, an analysis was also done on the relationship between the adoption of the environmental standard and greater concern for the environment. Design/methodology/approach – A small sample analysis was done using a combination of statistical methods and an abductive approach. A χ2 analysis was utilized to test the hypotheses. Findings – Many benefits were indicated. However, a positive relationship between quality standards and efficiency, as well as competitiveness, was not confirmed. In addition, the implementation of ISO 14001 quality standards was found to have no effect on the higher investment in environmental protection. Research limitations/implications – This study is limited by its local aspect (Slovenia), small sample size and its focus on just quality standards and their external factors. Future studies should be extended to the countries of eastern Europe and should further examine the relationship of internal factors as well as the relationship between the adoption of quality standards and the supply chain. Practical implications – A survey is essential not just for the Slovenian industry but also for the wider logistics industry as well as for government authorities and standards providers. Originality/value – This is one of the first papers written to analyse the effects of quality standards on international logistics service providers and the first paper that has explored the impact of standards on Slovenian logistics service providers.

The study was conducted to determine the application, fulfillment, and control of quality standards and their implementation in the world of education. Qualitative methods are used with Descriptive Research types. The results and discussion of efforts to maintain the quality of education are difficult to release in relation to quality management. In quality management all management functions carried out by education managers are directed so that all services provided to the maximum extent possible or exceed customer expectations. In connection with these efforts, efforts are needed to control quality or quality control. In the perspective of quality management, controlling the quality of a product after it is produced can face the risk of a number of products that do not meet the expected standards. This means that the production process is more expensive. In the field of education this logic also applies.  Keywords: Implementation, Quality Assurance, Education
