The first problem is constant quotations of distorted Islamic image portrayals, and a one and a half page dialogue without evaluation. If the dialoguedoes anything, it increases hostility between Muslim and non-Muslim withoutproviding a critical Islamic evaluation. Options are: examination of sources,Orientalist roots, Tyler’s erroneous characterization, all with enhancementof Islamic values, correcting the thought process. One option the paper missesis captivity due to piracy- a Western coinage invented to cover up the West’sillegitimate attack of Muslim shores. Historically, the Muslims were on thedefensive from the previous century, when Spain and Portugal raided theirshores and persecuted Moriscos, Moroccans, and Islamic North Africa.America joined later, assuming the Muslims’ guilt. That captivity brings outan awareness of the despotic American slavery system is not the sole valueof Underhill’s experience. That he continues forming erroneous judgementsbased on racial biases is more important. The entire experience provides astroke of Islamic irony. While a Christian fails to judge Islam, Islam’s systemof equality in the eyes of God renders Underhill’s awareness stale, captivitya legend, and blindness of war purpose ignorance. Of course the issue couldbe discussed in more profundity and length. If the Islamic perspective is notbrought out, then, the casual non-Muslim reader may read the paper as anadventure of a romantic nationalist when war was a romantic enterprise. Inthis way, the Islamic thesis is lost. There has to be a definite awareness ofthe historical context of such Orientalist writings. This issue is extremely crucialfor Muslim scholars and sheds light on the purpose of Orientalist works witha political goal. We will not go so far as researching who has created racism,or who has created slavery in the American system, which are equally validpoints for this paper, but we should see the historical milieu of this work.Placement in context helps Muslims understand academic endeavors atmisrepresenting Islam at this point in history. The author’s paper entitled “In Search of the Orient: The Muslim Easton the Contemporary American Literary Scene,’’ published by the InternationalInstitute of Islamic and Arabic Studies is of much hgher quality becauseof covering new ground, although it does not mention an important work bya Muslim scholar, Dr. Layla al-Farsy; “Washington Irving’s Mahomet: A Studyof the Sources.” ...

Kata kunci:Sandur Bojonegoro, kekerasan budaya, arkeologi, genealogi pengetahuan  AbstractThere are many researches on sandur, folk art in the form of dance dramas in Ledok Kulon Village, Bojonegoro District, Bojonegoro Regency, but those that talk about cultural violence and tembang sandurin the archaeological framework and genealogy of knowledge have not been found. This is because cultural violence befell the art because of the impact of unilateral stigmatization after 1965-1966 which considered it a folk art affiliated to the PKI, and during the period of strong Islamic puritanism in the 1990s, which considered sandur not in accordance with Islamic values, even though the contents tembang sandurcontradict this stigma. Therefore, this study uncovers aspects of cultural violence by tracing tembang sandurfrom the perspective of genealogy and knowledge archeology within the framework of cultural studies. The theory used is triangulation of folklore theory, archeology-genealogy of knowledge, and history. As a result, (1) the sandursongs have a Javanese poetic metre that leads to children's singing, with local Javanese language media, and keeps traces of local wisdom, ethics, and spirituality, (2) Javanese-Islamic values become the spirit of the tembang sandur. In it there is a syncretism of Javanese and Islamic values, (3) the unilateral stigmatization of SandurBojonegoro, both by anti-communists and Islamic puritans, only looks at the historical context of Indonesia in the Orde Lamawhen politics was the commander and only sees the surface without explore its constituent elements, ideology, noble teachings, and traditions that gave birth to the art of sandur. Keywords:SandurBojonegoro, cultural violence, archeology, genealogy of knowledge

The Lawh-i-Tibb is a well-known, oft-referenced tablet by Bahá’u’lláh and one of the few explicitly related to medicine and healing. While the health maxims contained in it are often the focus of popular interest, relatively little attention has been paid to other aspects of the tablet. Complicating the study of this important work is the lack of an authorized English translation. This paper, drawing on provisional translations, focuses on the tablet’s historical context, its paradigms for the study and practice of medicine, its description of the ideal characteristics of a physician, and its foreshadowing of the evolution of medical science.

This paper attempts to discover the characteristics of the human being through William Blake's Poems as an alternative definition. Among Blake's poems, The Divine Image and The Human Abstract are the most representative of discovering human characteristics. Moreover, this study strives to establish the correlation between Islamic values and European literature. The study uses new criticism in discovering the characteristics in the poems by two steps of analysis; paraphrasing and explication. After conducting the analysis, it is found that there are four positive characteristics in The Divine Image and four negative characteristics in The Human Abstract. The positive characteristics consist of mercy, pity, peace, and love, while the negative ones are exploitation, cruelty, conflict, and hypocritical humility. An Islamic expert, Murtadha Muthahhari, perceives the result of the analysis of the poem. Muthahhari explains fourteen positive and eight negative points of humans following the Holy Qur'an. It is found that the poems' human positive and negative characteristics include in MurtadhaMuthahhari's points of thought. Thus, the ideas of human being’s characteristics in the poems are related to Murtadha Muthahhari’s thoughts.

There is, alas, no secret code or mystical number lurking in the text of Propertius' first book of elegies which, if discovered, could reveal essential truths about the book. Or at least there is none that I can claim to have found. The search for some key to unlock secrets of meaning and authorial design is a well-known phenomenon of the interpretation of Roman poetry books, and Propertius' ‘single book’ has featured prominently in such investigations. The present paper does not put forth a new structural scheme for understanding theMonobiblosor another description of numerical patternings in it, nor does it insist that a true appreciation of the book's ‘architecture’ is essential for understanding its meaning. Instead, it has the goal of considering how the book format affects the experience of reading and the interpretation of this one important work of Roman poetry in light of its generic identity and the literary-historical context in which it was produced. In particular, I am interested in describing how the book format makes available to readers of the Monobiblos a sense that even in the absence of a single narrative spanning all of the poems of the book it is nevertheless possible to supplement them so that something like a plot or story emerges. I first consider how this sense of a possible plot or plots arises in the reading process, looking also at how some previous influential studies of the Monobiblos have relied upon various ways of construing a story or plot for the book.

Teenage career maturity is a major problem that occurs in the world of Indonesian education today. Various theories and disciplines have been studied to prepare teenagers to have career maturity. Understanding career maturity is not only reviewed in General Science disciplines such as Psychology, because since a long time Islam has discussed a lot about the personality and maturity of adolescents that can be used as a basis in understanding career maturity in an Islamic perspective. . As much as the amount of human knowledge gained through reason cannot be separated from the heart so that there tends to be a potential for indifference in seeing psychological theories about humans that can cause fatal errors in implementing it. In the context of career maturity, individuals who choose jobs are based on satisfaction, often unresolved problem. All kinds of careers cannot be separated from Islamic values because all jobs, careers, positions are intended to serve and seek God's pleasure.

Transnational ideology springs the faded attitude of state defends. On another side, state defend is always connected with the military. The concept of jihad (struggle) in the Qur’an can be understood as an obligation to defend the state at all levels. The obligation could be in the form of guarding unity and integrity, culturalizing of deliberation, struggling justice, and maintaining freedom. The obligation of state defends in the form of physical form could not be conducted whether individually or collectively. This obligation is performed only if a ruler commands to battle against, and when an enemy has besieged a region. If defending Indonesia's state is one of the requirements for the existence and glory of Muslims in materializing Islamic values and universal of humanity, so struggling for state defend is a condition sine qua non.

Jihad as a popular term in Islam has the meaning of struggle with the intention and sincerity for good, but the meaning of jihad, which has the value of struggle, in practice has different understandings and practices between groups in Islam. This research is qualitative in nature which aims to determine the meaning of the word jihad and to find out its implementation in the life of the state in Indonesia. Library research was chosen as a data mining method, the approach used is a phenomenological approach with image theory as the blade of analysis. There are various meanings of the word jihad, some groups with a textual Islamic perspective interpret jihad as a physical struggle that can lead to bloody conflict. Contrary to that, contextual Islamic groups understand jihad as a struggle that is not only physical, but various dimensions of struggle by seeing the condition of society as a broad and more valuable jihad field. Today, jihad is interpreted more practically by applying Islamic values in everyday life, such as fashion, language, social relationships and so on. This phenomenon was then popularly called "hijrah" and became a trend in middle-class Islamic societies in Indonesia.
