As a result of generalization and critical consideration of the methodological apparatus of research on translanguaging and multilanguaging as communicative practices, published over the past 10 years, the advantages and disadvantages of these methodologies are highlighted, and the problematic issues caused by them that require attention when conducting similar studies are formulated. On this theoretical foundation, possible solutions to these problematic issues, on which the effectiveness and objectivity of empirical studies of translanguaging and multilanguaging may depend, including those conducted on the material of oral and written speech generated during the educational process in higher education, are proposed, and the development of a methodology for collecting speech samples for the needs of a research project aimed at the study of translanguaging and multilanguaging communicative practices of foreign students at a Russian university is performed, based on the authors' desire to maximize the positive aspects of the earlier proposed methodological approaches and mitigate the influence of factors that could potentially have a negative impact on the results and their interpretation.

Introduction. The modern development of information and communication technologiesand the current epidemiological situation have led to the widespread use of distance educational technologies. The article presents the results of a statistical analysis of the data obtained during the hygienic assessment of the characteristics of the lifestyle and activity of students in the period of active introduction of forms and methods of distance education.Material and methods. An online survey of 498 students in 2019 during the period of traditional education and 1587 students in April 2020 during the implementation of the educational process in the distance format was conducted. The coordinator of the work was the Department of Hygiene of the Pediatric Faculty of the N.I. Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Moscow.Results. The obtained data allows talking about the negative impact of electronic devices on the lifestyle of students. A significant increase in the time of the use of gadgets (almost twice) and their number (2-4) when transferring the educational process to a remote format is proved. In general, the use of stationary and mobile electronic devices in more than 50% of respondents amounted to five hours or more. A decrease in the quality characteristics of the lifestyle of students in higher education during the transition to distant education has been established, while more than a third of them do not realize this. As risk factors, a decrease in motor activity, visual impairment, neuropsychic stress, poor nutrition, etc. In the absence of direct contact with university teachers, the opportunities for creating healthy lifestyle skills within the university are reduced and the importance of teachers as an authoritarian influence and a personal example for students is reduced.Conclusion. Informatization and the introduction of distance learning technologies in the higher education system require comprehensive studies of the advantages and disadvantages of such a learning format. The forced mass introduction of distance learning technologies in the educational process has exposed many problems that have not yet been given sufficient attention and, in the future, they can become the basis for promising research in the field of educational hygiene. The results obtained suggest that modern students do not pay enough attention to their lifestyle in the period of the distant education.

The article analyzes the problems associated with teaching foreign students in mixed groups. A mixed group is a formally isolated part of the educational institution cohort that possesses such characteristics as: 1) a fixed heterogeneous ethno-cultural composition, 2) a different level of preparation of students for mastering the disciplines of the general educational program, 3) common cognitive interests and a single educational content in the current period of time; 4) joint educational activities under the guidance of the same teachers, 5) a single period of study. This article aims to highlight the range of language problems that hinder the development of general education programs by foreign students when studying as part of a mixed group. Since the structure of language difficulties varies for different categories of foreign citizens (foreigners with an initial level of proficiency in Russian, foreign speakers, bilinguals), it is important to have a differentiated approach to regulating the educational process and specially organized training taking into account the ethnic and linguistic needs of all members of the group. A differentiated approach to learning, building an individual way of each group member development allows mobilizing cognitive interests and motivating participants in the educational process. The development of specific recommendations to overcome the possible negative impact of a mixed group on the process of obtaining subject knowledge by foreign students is an important methodological task that requires further study.

The article describes the difficulties of transition to distance learning (DL) at a medical university when students pass clinical disciplines, using the example of the subject of "psychiatry". The negative impact of the pandemic on international cooperation in the field of education and science was also noted, in particular, attracting foreign students to further education. Based on the above, the following tasks were set: to study the features of the transition to distance learning the subject of "psychiatry" at the Odessa National Medical University, to identify the features of distance work with English-speaking foreign students during their learning of this discipline and to present proposals for optimizing this process. During the transition to DL, a significant decrease in the quality of education was noticed during the absence of an existing learning management system, since this transition was a certain stress for all participants in the educational process, both students and teachers. Significant problems have arisen in the DL of clinical disciplines for English-speaking students. The greatest difficulty is the teaching of psychiatry, since it is difficult to explain to students in English not only the description of psychopathological symptoms and syndromes, but also the mental characteristics of people with other nationalities. It is proposed to use movies, with the main heroes suffering from mental disorders, as a thematic guide for mastering practical skills. Although some of the positive aspects of DL have been noted by medical students, they agree to DL only as a forced short-term measure.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the organization of the educational process in Russian universities. The object of the research is the experience of implementing e-education and the transition to distance technologies for continuing education of Chinese undergraduates in the Russian metropolitan university. Russian universities had the technical capabilities and used various electronic educational platforms. In the same time, the results of the survey showed a decrease in the satisfaction of Chinese full-time students when switching to distance learning. The study shows the significant factors that had a negative impact on the educational process using distance technology to teach Chinese undergraduates during the COVID-19 pandemic. The authors have grouped these factors into five groups (technical, language, emotional, and financial, content of lecture). Identification of these factors made it possible to develop a program to improve the educational process and enhance the satisfaction of foreign students studying at Russian universities.

The introduction of distance learning in higher educational medical estalishments underconditions of pandemia has led to a reorganization of the educational process usingnew teaching methods, information and communication technologies (online platforms, video communication programs). In the system of training a qualified physician, clinicalanatomy and operative surgery occupy a leading place, as it develops clinical thinking, stimulates teamwork and is the basis for further study of surgery. The aim of the article - to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of teachingclinical anatomy and operative surgery to foreign students in terms of distance learningand ways to improve them.Conclusions. The study of clinical anatomy and operative surgery by foreign studentsin the context of distance learning has a number of advantages and disadvantagescompared to the traditional form. The use of the online platform Moodle (with studymaterials) and the Microsoft Teams service made it possible to conduct video lecturesand seminars online using interactive teaching methods that promote the motivationincrease and independence of foreign students. "Virtual" operational interventions usingan interactive method is a business game which allows not only to study the stages ofoperations but also to consolidate the algorithm of actions in different circumstances. Theuse of virtual and augmented reality technologies in the educational process becomes theclinical anatomy mastering better, makes it possible to improve its surgical component, which is especially important in the absence of the possibility of training operations.

The purpose of this paper was to examine to what extent social researchers who study children, either quantitatively or qualitatively, can be observant of the philosophical assumptions that underpin the methodological approaches they undertake. Primarily, the philosophical underpinnings of quantitative and qualitative social research, especially as they pertain to the social study of children, were delineated. Then, two systematic literature reviews of peer-reviewed articles that report on empirical studies published in the past year were conducted. One review focused on qualitative studies and the other on quantitative studies. The findings of these reviews suggest that strict adherences to the philosophical underpinnings of quantitative and qualitative social research are nearly impossible. In view of the findings, and in consideration of the unique limitations associated with the social study of children, pragmatism is suggested as an appropriate social research paradigm.

COVID-19 pandemic has led to changes in all areas of human activity, and they have not escaped the education system. One of the new and most highly effective and, especially relevant, areas of improvement in the educational process of higher education is the use of distance learning. The aim of the research: to analyze the opportunities, advantages and disadvantages of using distance learning at a medical university. Distance learning is a form of learning with the use of computer and telecommunication technologies, which provide interaction of teachers and students at different stages of learning and independent work with materials from the information network. There are a number of platforms and applications as tools for effective, interesting and interactive learning: Moodle, Google Classroom, Zoom, Skype, Google Hangouts, WebEx, MyOwnConference, Microsoft Teams. Distance learning includes a set of the following components: providing educational material to the student; means of monitoring student performance; student consultations by the program-teacher; means of interactive cooperation between teacher and student; the ability to quickly add new information to the course, error correction. Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University uses Microsoft Teams as a tool for distance learning. Microsoft Teams is a state-of-the-art real-time video conferencing tool that integrates all Office 365 tools, gathers up to 300 participants, and holds meetings lasting up to 24 hours. Also, this service includes communication in general chat and personal messages, shared access to educational materials in various formats, access to the cloud environment, control of the level of knowledge can be carried out in the form of an oral interview and with the use of test tasks, sending files, it is possible to record video conferences, screen demonstrations, presentations, web pages, use the board. Distance learning has a number of advantages such as: flexibility, relevance, convenience, modularity, cost-effectiveness and the ability to simultaneously use a large amount of educational information for any number of students, interactivity, removing psychological barriers to communication, blurring borders, no direct contact between people, which allows to actively learn even during illness or self-isolation. However, despite these advantages, we should not forget about the disadvantages. Distance education requires a certain level of hardware and software. No matter how accessible computer distance education may seem, it requires the learner to have a computer and Internet access, which not everyone has. These also include: the need for a certain level of hardware and software, depersonalization of communication, negative impact on students' health, problems with mastering practical skills, lack of direct communication with patients, inability to participate in professors wardrounds, supervise patients. As for carrying out diagnostic procedures using special devices and tools, it is an indisputable fact: you can watch videos about a certain manipulation many times, you may perfect know the algorithm of its performance, but without ever trying to do it yourself, it is impossible to master this manipulation. Studying at a medical university has its own specifics, so distance learning cannot completely replace the traditional educational process and prepare future doctors for further practice.

In modern conditions of competition in the market of educational services and their export, the system of strategic education management requires the design of a management model for all departments of the educational institution. Preparatory departments for foreign students are an important structural component of the educational process at leading universities in Ukraine. The public’s request for an increase in the number of foreigners studying in Ukraine, competitive positions in their training, in particular at preparatory departments, actualizes the issue of finding a systemic, activity-based, effective approach to improve the quality of their training. Taking into account modern methodological approaches to the management system (target, system and process), the problem of finding effective ways to optimize the educational process based on the use of elements of management theory is outlined. A structuralmeaningful model of managing the cognitive activity of foreign students in the subject-meaningful and linguistic aspects of the study of general education disciplines has been developed. The stages of the management cycle are considered, taking into account the peculiarities of the training system for foreign citizens at the preparatory departments. On the example of the organization of the training system at the preparatory department of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kiev, the peculiarities of the management of the cognitive activity of students are revealed, taking into account the theoretical and methodological approaches to the general problem of the management of the educational process. To implement this approach, it is necessary to complete the main stages of the management cycle: determination of the management object; formulation of goals and objectives; fixing the initial level of the control object; the formulation of a program of action; definition of feedback channels by which the results of management will be determined; analysis of the received information according to certain parameters; correction of the initial concept and subsequent actions. The preparation of foreign students for studying at universities should take place through interdisciplinary integration of basic disciplines with professionally oriented language learning and using the latest information technologies for the individualization of training. An important aspect of the management of cognitive activity is the creation of a qualitatively new organizational and educational-methodological foundation of education based on the correction of curricula, work programs, manuals, the development of mono-technologies for a different contingent of foreign citizens.
