Abstract: Bisphenol A (BPA), commonly found in plastic packaging and cans, can induce oxidative stress. This study was aimed to prove that oral BPA could decrease superoxide dismutase (SOD) and increase F2-isoprostan levels in male Sprague Dawley rats. This was an experimental study using randomized pretest-posttest control group design. There were 14 rats (Rattus norvegicus), male, Sprague Dawley strain, 8-10 weeks old, as subjects. Rats were divided into two groups with 7 rats each. The control group (P0) was treated with placebo for 21 days and the treatment group (P1) was treated with oral BPA dose of 400mg/kg for 21 days. Before and after treatment for 21 days, blood was drained through the canthus medial sinus orbital and urine was collected as pretest and posttest data. SOD and F2-isoprostan levels were then examined by using ELISA. The results showed that before treatment (pretest), the mean SOD level in P0 group was 42.51±3.127 U/mL and in P1 group was 41.87±2.477 U/mL (P > 0.05). The mean F2-isoprostane level in P0 group was 3.18±0.599 ng/ml and in P1 group was 3.22±0.489 ng/ml (P > 0.05). However, after treatment for 21 days (posttest), the mean level of SOD in P0 group was 43.52±3.472 U/mL and in P1 group was 31.84±2.563 U/mL (P <0.01). The mean level of F2-isoprostane in P0 group was 2.94±0.500 ng/ml and in P1 group was 4.47±0.241 ng/ml (P < 0.01). The analysis of the treatment effect showed significant decreased level of SOD and increased level of F2-isoprostane in P1 group (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Oral bisphenol A could decrease superoxide dismutase (SOD) and increase F2-isoprostan levels in male Sprague dawley rats.Keywords: bisphenol A (BPA), SOD, F2-isoprostane, Sprague Dawley ratsAbstrak: Bisphenol A (BPA) banyak ditemukan dalam kemasan plastik dan kaleng dan dapat menyebabkan peningkatan radikal bebas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan pemberian BPA oral dapat menurunkan kadar superoksida dismutase (SOD) dan meningkatkan kadar F2-isoprostan pada tikus (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur Sprague Dawley. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum perlakuan (pretest), rerata kadar SOD kelompok P0 42,51±3,127 U/mL dan kelompok P1 41,87±2,477 U/mL (P > 0,05). Rerata kadar F2-isoprostan kelompok P0 3,18±0,599 ng/ml dan kelompok P1 3,22±0,489 ng/ml (P > 0,05). Setelah perlakuan selama 21 hari (posttest), rerata kadar SOD kelompok P0 43,52±3,472 U/mL dan kelompok P1 31,84±2,563 U/mL (P < 0,01). Rerata kadar F2-isoprostan kelompok P0 2,94±0,500 ng/ml dan kelompok P1 4,47±0,241 ng/ml (P < 0,01). Analisis efek perlakuan menunjukkan terjadi penurunan kadar SOD dan peningkatan kadar F2-isoprostan yang bermakna pada kelompok P1 (P < 0,01). Simpulan: Bisphenol A oral dapat menurunkan kadar superoksida dismutase dan meningkatkan kadar F2-isoprostan pada tikus galur Sprague Dawley jantan.Kata kunci: BPA, SOD, F2-Isoprostan, tikus Sprague Dawley

Abstract: Bisphenol A (BPA) has the structural and physiological activity of estrogen and acts as an endocrine disruptor. This study was aimed to prove that oral BPA could decrease testosterone levels in male Sprague Dawley rats. This was an experimental study with a randomized pretest-posttest control group design using 14 rats (Rattus norvegicus), male, Sprague Dawley strain, 2-3 months old, as subjects. Rats were divided into two groups with 7 rats each. The control group (P0) was treated with placebo for 14 days and the treatment group (P1) was treated with oral bisphenol A (BPA) single dose of 400mg/kg/day for 14 days (P1). At before and after 14-day treatment, blood was drawn through the canthus medial of orbital sinus to obtain the pretest and posttest data. Testosterone levels were examined by using ELISA. The results showed that before treatment (pretest), the mean testosterone level in P0 group was 8.29±4.68 nmol/L, while in P1 group was 7.39±1.45 nmol/L (P > 0.05). After treatment for 14 days, the mean testosterone level in P0 group was 7.40±1.37 nmol/L, while in P1 group was 3.36±1.26 nmol/L (P < 0.01). The statistical analysis showed that there was no difference in testosterone levels in P0 group (P > 0.05), meanwhile there was a very significant decrease of testosterone levels in P1 group (P < 0.01) after the treatment of BPA 400mg/kg/day for 14 days. Abstract: Aging is a physiological process that occurs in all living creatures. Swissoats A3® is an anti-aging supplement that contains phytoestrogens. This study was aimed to prove that Swiss oats A3® supplementation could increase estrogen levels in menopausal female Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was an experimental study with a completely randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Subjects were 20 menopausal female rats (Rattus norvegicus), Wistar strain, healthy, aged 15-16 months, weighing 200 g, divided into 2 groups: the control group (P0), treated with distilled water for 21 days and the treatment group (P1), treated with Swissoats A3® of 34.2 mg/rat/day for 21 days. Before and after 21 days of treatment, 1 ml venous blood was drawn through the medial canthus of orbital sinus using microcapillary tube and the estrogen levels were meassured by using indirect ELISA method. The results showed that before treatment, the mean estrogen level in P0 group was 14.96±2.0468 pg/ml and in P1 group was 14.21±2.3905 pg/ml (P > 0.05). Meanwhile, after 21-day treatment, the mean estrogen level in P0 group was 15.07±1.8851 pg/ml, whereas in P1 group was 28.33±3.2052 pg/ml (P < 0.01). The analysis showed that the Swissoats A3® could elevate the estrogen levels significantly (P < 0.01) in group P1 (2.3905±14.21 vs 28.33±3.205). Conclusion: Swissoats A3® supplementation could increase the estrogen levels in menopausal female Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus).Keywords: Swiss oats A3®, estrogen, female Wistar rats, menopauseAbstrak: Penuaan (aging) merupakan suatu proses fisiologik yang dialami oleh seluruh mahluk hidup. Swissoats A3® merupakan suplemen anti-aging yang mengandung fitoestrogen. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa pemberian suplemen Swissoats A3® dapat meningkatkan kadar estrogen pada tikus (Rattus norvegicus) betina menopause galur Wistar. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental dengan randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Subjek penelitian ialah 20 ekor tikus putih betina (Rattus norvegicus) galur Wistar, sehat, menopause, umur 15-16 bulan, berat badan 200 gr. Tikus dibagi menjadi 2 kelompok yaitu kelompok kontrol (P0) yang diberikan aquadest secara sonde selama 21 hari dan kelompok perlakuan yang diberikan suplemen Swissoats A3® dosis 34,2mg/ekor/hari secara sonde selama 21 hari. Sebelum dan sesudah 21 hari perlakuan, darah vena diambil melalui medial canthus sinus orbitalis sekitar 1 ml dengan menggunakan tabung mikrokapiler dan dilakukan pemeriksaan kadar estrogen menggunakan metode indirect ELISA. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebelum perlakuan, rerata kadar estrogen kelompok P0 14,96±2,0468 pg/ml dan kelompok P1 14,21±2,3905 pg/ml (P > 0,05). Setelah perlakuan selama 21 hari, rerata kadar estrogen kelompok P0 15,07±1,8851 pg/ml dan kelompok P1 28,33±3,2052 pg/ml (P < 0,01). Analisis efek perlakuan menunjukkan terjadinya peningkatan kadar hormon estrogen yang sangat bermakna (P < 0,01) pada kelompok P1 (14,21±2,3905 vs 28,33±3,205). Background. The ability to sustain attention over period of time is called concentration. Concentration is one of the important factor for studying, especially for school children. Swimming as an exercise expected to be improving concentration.Objective. The aim of this study was to know the relation between swimming and concentration in childrens.Method. This study was experimental study with pre-posttest without control group design. Subjects were 8 children within 6-12 years old (age 8,50 + 1,41) by total sampling method. Swimming had been done 2 times a week in mild intensity with 60 minutes duration for 8 weeks at Bina Taruna swimming club, Purwokerto. Concentration score before and after the intervention was measured with army-alpha test by pshycologist. Wilcoxon test was performed to determine the relation between swimming and concentration.Results. There was significant relation between swimming and concentration (p= 0,042). The mean concentration score had increased after the 8-weeks swimming intervention (76,25+ 13,30 to 83,13 + 9,98.)Conclusion. There was relation between swimming and concentration in children

Gentamisin adalah salah satu antibiotik golongan aminoglikosida yang efektif melawan bakteri gram negatif. Gentamisin memiliki efek samping terhadap testis. Gentamisin dapat meningkatkan jumlah Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) yaitu suatu radikal bebas yang dapat memicu stres oksidatif dalam testis. Hal ini berbahaya bagi kesuburan pria dan meningkatkan risiko infertilitas. Kadar ROS yang tinggi dapat dinetralkan menggunakan antioksidan. Salah satu antioksidan tersebut adalah likopen yang banyak terkandung didalam tomat. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh tomat terhadap diameter tubulus seminiferus tikus putih Rattus norvegicus yang diinduksi gentamisin. Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental dengan desain post test only control group design. Penelitian menggunakan 25 ekor tikus putih yang dibagi dalam 5 kelompok dengan lima kali pengulangan. Kelompok terdiri dari kelompok K(-) yang tidak diberikan apapun, kelompok K(+) yang diberikan gentamisin 20 mg/kgBB, dan kelompok P1, P2, P3 yang diberikan gentamisin 20 mg/kgBB dan jus tomat masing-masing persentasi 25%, 50%, dan 100%. Penelitian dilakukan selama 24 hari. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, terjadi peningkatan diameter tubulus seminiferus setelah diberikan jus tomat selama 24 hari.

Hiperlipidemia merupakan suatu keadaan patologis akibat kelainan metabolisme lipid yang ditandai dengan peningkatan fraksi lipid di dalam darah. Bunga pepaya mengandung senyawa yang mampu mempertahankan kadar kolesterol dalam batas normal karena mengandung senyawa flavanoid dan tanin yang berperan sebagai antioksidan. Pada penelitian ini digunakan tikus sebagai hewan coba untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ekstrak bunga pepaya (Carica papaya L) terhadap kadar HDL dan LDL darah tikus yang diberi diet tinggi lemak. Penelitian ini menggunakan 25 ekor tikus Sprague dawley jantan berusia 12-16 minggu dengan berat 200-250 g, dengan pre and post test with control group design. Tikus dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok yaitu; kelompok tikus yang hanya diberi pakan standar (K), kelompok tikus yang diberi diet tinggi lemak (KN), kelompok tikus yang diberi diet tinggi lemak dan ekstrak bunga pepaya 31 mg/kgBB (P1), kelompok tikus yang diberi diet tinggi lemak dan ekstrak bunga pepaya 62 mg/kgBB (P2), dan kelompok tikus yang diberi diet tinggi lemak dan ekstrak bunga pepaya 125 mg/kgBB (P3). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak bunga pepaya dengan dosis 31 mg/kgBB, 62 mg/kgBB dan 125 mg/kgBB mampu meningkatkan rerata kadar HDL dan menurunkan rerata kadar LDL darah tikus secara signifikan (p <0,05). Namun semakin besar dosis tidak berpengaruh terhadap kadar HDL dan LDL.

The efforts that can be done to improve brain cells in the prenatal period is the provision of nutrients and good stimulation. Exposure to classical music such as Beethoven can increase the wave of brain activity. During pregnancy, Beethoven music is proven to decrease the apoptosis of neuronal. Laboratory experimental research, posttest-only control group design. Subjects were female pregnant Rattus norvegicus, grouped into 3 random groups: 1 control group and 3 treatments groups; with 6 samples each. Subjects were super ovulated, and 65 dB intensity of music was played for an hour at 8-9 pm on the subjects on 10th day of pregnancy. On 20th day of pregnancy, the mothers were dissected using sectio caesarea. 2 heaviest offspring’ of Rattus norvegicus taken, and their brain tissues are taken as samples. The mean of apoptosis neuronal of rat offspring’ cerebrum were respectively from the low to high levels as follow Beethoven 1,57±0,3 and Chopin 1,77±0,81, control 1,97±0,34. The data were analysed using Kruskal-Wallis test which showed significant differences between four groups p=0,014 in cerebrum. In conclusion, exposure of Beethoven composition during pregnancy gave lower apoptosis of neuronal cerebrum in the offspring-rat compared with Chopin composition.

ABSTRACT Background: Among the various medicinal plants, black cumin (Nigella sativa) appears as an herb with a historical and religious background due to a lot of research. One of the most important effects on Nigella sativa is the hepatoprotective that has been shed in various studies. Thymoquinone which is the content of Nigella sativa has the ability to inhibit lipid peroxidation. Thymoquinone can reduce oxidative stress and increase antioxidants in the body. The objectives of this study were to overcome the effects hepatoprotector of black cumin extract (Nigella sativa) on the damage of hepatic of male white rat (Rattus norvegicus) sparague dawley strain induced by ethanol. Methodology: It is a kind of experimental laboratory research used that uses random controlled design method with the pattern of post test-only control group design. The subject of this research is 25 adult male white rats (Rattus norvegicus) Sparague Dawley strain aged 3-4 months, weight 150-300 grams, that are divided in to five groups. Group one (normal control) is given aquades dose 0,01 ml/grBB/day, group two (pathologic control) is given ethanol with dose o,o1 ml/grBB/day, group three is given 25% concentration of black cumin extract and 50% ethanol, group four is given 37,5% concentration of black cumin extract and 50% ethanol, and group five is given 50% concentration of black cumin extract and 50% ethanol. After 14th days, the treatment was stopped and the rats got dislocation cervical, and then laparotomy for made histopathology preparation. After getting observed, the data that is gotten is analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis test and then Mann-Whitney test. Result: The result of Kruskal-Wallis test showed that there was an effect of black cumin extract (Nigella sativa) on the damage of hepatic of male white rat (Rattus norvegicus) sparague dawley strain induced by ethanol with p = 0,001 (p <0,05) . Mann Whitney test show there is a means difference between group I (normal control) with group II (pathologic control), group III (dose I), group IV (dose II) and group V (dose III). Conclusion: There is a hepatoprotector effect of black cumin (Nigella sativa) extract to liver’s damage of white rats (Rattus norvegicus) sparague dawley strain induced by ethanol. Key words: Black cumin extract, ethanol, fatty degeneration of liver rats.   ABSTRAK Latar Belakang: Di antara berbagai tanaman obat, jintan hitam (Nigella sativa) muncul sebagai ramuan dengan latar belakang sejarah dan agama karena banyak penelitian mengungkapkan potensi farmakologis dari tanaman tesebut. Salah satu efek yang paling penting pada Nigella sativa adalah hepatoprotektif yang ditelah dijelaskan dalam berbagai penelitian. Thymoquinone yang merupakan kandungan jintan hitam memiliki kemampuan untuk menghambat peroksidasi lipid. Thymoquinone dapat mengurangi stress oksidatif dan meningkatkan pertahanan antioksidan dalam tubuh.  Tujuan penelitian ini untuk meneliti efek hepatoprotektor jintan hitam (Nigella sativa) terhadap kerusakan hepar tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur Sprague Dawley yang diinduksi etanol. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah eksperimental laboratorik menggunakan metode rancangan acak terkontrol dengan pola post test-only control group design. Subjek penelitian adalah 25 ekor tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur sparague dawley berumur 3-4 bulan, berat badan 150-300 gram, yang dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok. Kelompok I (kontrol normal) diberi aquades dosis 0,01 ml/grBB/hari, kelompok II (kontrol patologis) diberi etanol 50% dosis 0,01 ml/grBB/hari, kelompok III diberi ekstrak jintan hitam konsentrasi 25% dan etanol 50%, kelompok IV diberi ekstrak jintan hitam konsentrasi 37,5% dan etanol 50%, serta kelompok V diberi ekstrak jintan hitam konsentrasi 50% dan etanol 50%. Setelah hari ke-14, perlakuan dihentikan, dilakukan dislokasi pada leher tikus kemudian dilakukan laparotomi untuk pengambilan hepar tikus untuk dibuat preparat histopatologis. Setelah diamati, data dianalisis dengan uji Kruskal-Wallis dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Mann Whitney. Hasil: Hasil uji Kruskal-Wallis menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh ekstrak jintan hitam (Nigella sativa) terhadap kerusakan hepar tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur sparague dawley yang diinduksi etanol, dengan nilai p = 0,001 (p<0,05). Uji Mann Whitney menunjukkan perbandingan yang bermakna didapatkan pada kelompok I (kontrol normal) dengan kelompok II (kontrol patologis), kelompok III (dosis I), kelompok IV (dosis II) dan kelompok V (dosis III). Kesimpulan: Terdapat efek hepatoprotektor ekstrak jintan hitam (Nigella sativa) terhadap kerusakan hepar tikus putih (Rattus norvegicus) jantan galur Sprague Dawley yang diinduksi etanol.   Kata kunci: ekstrak jintan hitam, etanol, degenerasi lemak hepar tikus.

Abstract: This study was aimed to prove that oral administration of resveratrol could prevent urinary F2-isoprostane elevation in tartrazine-induced male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was an experimental study using the pretest-posttest control group design. Subjects were 24 rats (Rattus norvegicus), Wistar strain, healthy, 2-3 months old, weighing 200-220 g, divided into 2 groups with 12 rats each. The first group (P0), the control group, was given a placebo of 2 ml distilled water 2 hours prior to the administration of tartrazine 75 mg/kg body weight. The second group (P1), the treatment group, was given resveratrol of 20 mg/kg 2 hour prior to the administration of tartrazine 75 mg/kg. Rats’ urine was collected before and after treatment for 4 weeks. Level of F2-isoprostane was examined by using an 8-iso-PGF2α enzyme immuno assay kit. The comparative analysis of the pretest groups showed that there was no difference between the average levels of F2-isoprostane in both groups (5.45±0.62 ng/mL in P0 group vs 5.42±0.64 ng/mL in P1 group) (P > 0.05). Meanwhile, after treatment for 4 weeks, the average level of F2-isoprostane in the P0 group was significantly different from the P1 group (6.61±0.93 ng/mL vs 3.79±0.48 ng/mL) (P < 0.01). Analysis of the treatment effect showed a significant increase of F2-isoprostane level in the P0 group, and a significant decrease in the P1 group (P < 0.01). Kelompok pertama (P0) ialah kelompok kontrol, diberikan tartrazine 75 mg/kg BB dan 2 jam setelahnya diberikan plasebo berupa aquadest 2 ml. Kelompok kedua (P1) ialah kelompok perlakuan, diberikan tartrazine 75 mg/kg BB dan 2 jam setelahnya diberikan resveratrol 20 mg/kg BB. Saat sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan selama 4 minggu, urin tikus dikoleksi untuk pemeriksaan kadar F2-isoprostan menggunakan 8-iso-PGF2α enzyme immuno assay kit. Analisis komparasi sebelum perlakuan (pretest) menunjukkan rerata kadar F2-isoprostan pada kedua kelompok tidak berbeda nyata (5,45±0,62 ng/mL vs 5,42±0,64 ng/mL) (P > 0,05). Setelah perlakuan selama 4 minggu, rerata kadar F2-isoprostan pada kelompok P0 berbeda nyata dibandingkan kelompok P1 (6,61±0,93 ng/mL vs 3,79±0,48 ng/mL) (P < 0,01). Analisis efek perlakuan menunjukkan terjadi peningkatan kadar F2-isoprostan pada kelompok P0 dan penurunan bermakna pada kelompok P1 (P < 0,01). Simpulan: Pemberian resveratrol oral dapat mencegah peningkatan F2-isoprostan urin tikus (Rattus norvegicus) Wistar jantan yang dipapar tartrazine.Kata kunci: tartrazine, resveratrol, F2-isoprostan, urin

<p>ABSTRACT</p><p>Background: Hypercholesterolemia is a main risk factor of cardiovascular disease that remains the higher cause of deaths in the world. Black soy bean containing protein, fiber, vitamin, isoflavon, and flavonoid can decrease serum cholesterol level. Yoghurt contains lactic acid bacteria that decrease total and LDL cholesterol, triglyceride, and increase the HDL cholesterol. Processing of black soy bean into black soyghurt can increase its isoflavon’s activity by forming aglicone, which has higher activity to decrease cholesterol.</p><p>Objectives: To know the effect of black soyghurt feeding to LDL, HDL, and HDL ratio of hypercholesterolemic rats.</p><p>Methods: This research was true-experimental using post test only with control group design. Subjects were 20 male Sprague dawley rats, 2 months old, inducted hypercholesterolemia, given black soyghurt diet using 2 mL, 3 mL, and 4 mL dosage for 21 days. Serum lipid profile were measured by CHOD-PAP<br />and GPO-PAP methods respectively. Normality of the data were tested by Shapiro Wilks test. Data were analyzed by paired t test and Anova continued by LSD test using computer program.</p><p>Results: The study revealed that black soyghurt 4 mL/day decreased LDL (p=0.02) at the most significant level. The other doses did not significantly influence the levels of LDL (p&gt;0.05 ). There was also no effect of black soyghurt feeding on serum HDL cholesterol levels (p=0.11) and the ratio of LDL /HDL (p=0.087).</p><p>Conclusions: The feeding of black soyghurt at the dosage of 4 mL/day to hypercholesterolemic rats could decrease the serum LDL, but could decrease the ratio of LDL / HDL significantly.</p><p>KEYWORDS: black soyghurt, LDL/HDL ratio, hypercholesterolemic</p><p>ABSTRAK</p><p>Latar belakang: Hiperkolesterolemia merupakan faktor risiko penyakit kardiovaskuler yang menjadi penyebab kematian utama di dunia. Kedelai hitam mengandung protein, vitamin, serat, isoflavon, dan flavonoid yang mampu menurunkan kadar kolesterol. Yoghurt mengandung bakteri asam laktat yang mampu menurunkan kadar kolesterol total, LDL, dan trigliserida serta meningkatkan HDL. Pengolahan kedelai hitam menjadi black soyghurt meningkatkan aktivitas isoflavon dalam kedelai hitam menjadi aglikon yang lebih tinggi aktivitasnya dalam menurunkan kolesterol.</p><p>Tujuan: Untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian yoghurt kedelai hitam terhadap kadar LDL, HDL, dan rasio LDL/HDL pada tikus hiperkolesterolemia.</p><p>Metode: Jenis penelitian ini adalah true-experimental dengan post test only with control group design. Subjek penelitian adalah 20 tikus Sprague dawley jantan berusia 2 bulan, diinduksi hiperkolesterolemia, diberi black soyghurt dosis 2 mL, 3 mL, dan 4 mL selama 21 hari. Profil lipid diperiksa dengan metode cholesterol oxidase-peroxidase aminoantipyrine phenol (CHOD-PAP). Normalitas data diuji dengan Shapiro Wilks. Data dianalisis dengan uji t berpasangan dan Anova, dilanjutkan uji least significant difference (LSD) menggunakan program komputer. </p><p>Hasil: Pemberian black soyghurt dosis 4 mL/hari mampu menurunkan kadar LDL (p=0,002) paling signfikan. Dosis pemberian lain tidak berpengaruh secara signifikan terhadap kadar LDL (p&gt;0,05). Pemberian pakan tersebut juga tidak berpengaruh terhadap kadar kolesterol HDL serum hewan coba (p=0,11), dan rasio LDL/HDL (p=0,087).</p><p>Kesimpulan: Diet mengandung black soyghurt dosis 4 mL/hari dapat menurunkan LDL, tetapi tidak mampu menurunkan rasio LDL/HDL secara signifikan.</p><p>KATA KUNCI: black soyghurt, rasio LDL/HDL, hiperkolesterolemia</p>

Abstract: This study was aimed to prove that administration of black cincau (Mesona palustris BL) leaf extract increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels of overtraining-induced male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). This was a true experimental study using the randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Subjects were 16 male rats (Rattus norvegicus), 6-month old, Wistar strain, weighing 180-200 g, SOD level <39.3 U/mL (normal SOD level), divided into two groups: the control group (P0) and the treatment group (P1). The P0 group was given excessive physical training and aquadest for 14 days, while the P1 group was given excessive physical training and black cincau leaf extract of 54 mg/200 g BW daily for 14 days. The results showed that the mean SOD level before treatment (pretest) in the P0 group was 30.63±2.26 U/mL while in the P1 group was 31.31±2.52 U/mL (P >0.05). After 14-day treatment (posttest), the mean SOD level in the P0 group was 29.36±2.83 U/mL while in the P1 group was 41.31±2.35 U/mL (P <0.01). Further analysis showed that there was no change of SOD levels in the P0 group (P > 0.05), but in the P1 group there was a significant increase of SOD levels from 31.31±2.52U/mL to 41.31±2.35U/mL (P <0.01). Conclusion: Administration of black cincau leaf extract of 54 mg per 200 g of body weight increased SOD level of overtraining-induced male Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus).Keywords: black cincau leaves, SOD, excessive physical activityAbstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuktikan bahwa pemberian ekstrak daun cincau (Mesona palustris BL) dapat meningkatkan kadar superoksida dismutase (SOD) tikus Wistar (Rattus norvegicus) jantan yang diinduksi pelatihan fisik berlebih. Jenis penelitian ialah eksperimental murni menggunakan randomized pretest-posttest control group design. Subjek penelitian ialah 16 ekor tikus putih jantan (Rattus norvegicus) galur Wistar berumur 6 bulan, sehat, berat badan 180-200 gr, dan kadar SOD <39,3 U/mL (kadar SOD normal), yang dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, yaitu kelompok kontrol (P0) dan kelompok perlakuan (P1), masing-masing berjumlah 8 ekor tikus. Kelompok P0 diberikan pelatihan fisik berlebih dan akuades secara sonde selama 14 hari, dan kelompok P1 diberikan pelatihan fisik berlebih dan ekstrak daun cincau dosis 54 mg/200 gr BB tikus selama 14 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rerata kadar SOD sebelum perlakuan (pretest) pada kelompok P0 ialah 30,63±2,26 U/mL, sedangkan pada kelompok P1 ialah 31,31±2,52 U/mL (P >0,05). Setelah perlakuan selama 14 hari (posttest), rerata kadar SOD pada kelompok P0 ialah 29,36±2,83 U/mL, dan pada kelompok P1 ialah 41,31±2,35 U/mL (P <0,01). Hasil analisis efek perlakuan menunjukkan bahwa pada kelompok P0 tidak terjadi perubahan kadar SOD (P >0,05), namun pada kelompok P1 terjadi peningkatan bermakna kadar SOD dari 31,31±2,52 U/mL menjadi 41,31±2,35U/mL (P <0,01).
