ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian ransum yang mengandung tepung daun ubi jalar (Ipomoea batatas) terhadap pertambahan berat badan, konsumsi ransum serta konversi ransum ayam broiler telah dilaksanakan di Fakultas Peternakan, Universitas Sam Ratulangi Manado selama lima minggu. Penelitian dilakukan dengan Rancangan Acak Lengkap menggunakan 100 DOC yang dibagi ke dalam 25 unit kandang. Perlakuan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penggantian sebagian ransum yang terdiri dari ransum yang tidak mengandung tepung daun ubi jalar (R0) dan ransum yang mengandung tepung daun ubi jalar 2% (R1), 4% (R2), 6% (R3) dan 8% (R4). Ransum dan air minum diberikan ad libitum. Masing-masing perlakuan diulang lima kali. Peubah yang diukur adalah pertambahan berat badan, konsumsi ransum dan konversi ransum ayam broiler. Data diuji dengan sidik ragam, yang selanjutnya dilakukan uji Duncan. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penggunaan daun ubi jalar dalam ransum sampai dengan 10% menghasilkan Pertambahan berat badan, konsumsi ransum dan konversi ransum setara dengan ransum kontrol.Kata Kunci:Daun ubi jalar, Pertambahan berat badan, Konsumsi ransum, Konversi ransum, Ayambroiler.ABSTRACTTHE EFFECT OF SUPPLEMENTA-TION SWEET POTATO LEAVES MEAL (Ipomea batatas) ON BROILER PERFORMANCE.The research to find out the response of broiler consuming sweet potato leaves meal (Ipomoea batatas) on body weight, consumption ration and convertion ration was conducted at Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Sam Ratulangi University for six weeks. The experiment design was a completely randomized using 100 day old chick. The birds were placed randomly into twenty five cages. The treatments were ration without sweet potato leaves meal (R0) and ration containing sweet potato leaves meal 2% (R1), 4% (R2), 6% (R3) and 8% (R4). The ration and water were given ad libitum. The data analyzed by analysis of variance and Duncan's multiple range test. The parameters were body weight, consumption ration, and convertion ratio. The result indicated that use of sweet potato leaves meal up to 8% had similar body weight, consumtion and convertion ration to those of control. Twenty goats were given a basal feed of Pennisetumpurpureum cv Mott (odot grass) and supplemented with protein-based feed ingredients namely calliandracalothyrsus and soybeanmeal (SBM). The proportion of calliandra feed substitution and soybeanmeal is T1 = odot grass (ad libitum) + 100% soybeanmeal; T2 = odot grass (ad libitum) + 25% calliandra + 75% soybeanmeal; T3 = odot grass (ad libitum) + 50% calliandra + 50% soybeanmeal; T4 = odot grass (ad libitum) + 75% calliandra + 25% soybeanmeal; and T5 = odot grass (ad libitum) + 100% calliandra. The amount of feed supplementation given is based on daily protein requirements (gram/DM) per day according to animal body weight. The feed given contained iso protein (CP) and iso energy (TDN) to determine the effect of substitution of soybeanmeal with calliandra The parameters observed were intake and nutrient digestibility of feed. Data obtained from the results of the study analyzed variance using a one-way analysis of variance, then if the results show significant differences, it will be analyzed further with Duncan's new multiple range test. The results showed that substitution of calliandra did not have a significant effect (P> 0.05) on nutrient intake (g/kg BB0,75/day), except for intake of ETN, it shows a significant effect (P< 0.05). Calliandra substitution had a significant effect (P<0.05) on feed nutrient digestibility, with the highest digestibility being T2 treatment (25% calliandra substitution).

Sweet potato leaf (Ipomoea Batatas) is a potential agricultural waste is used as animal feed to Goat crossbreed of Ettawa. Sweet potato leaf (Ipomoea Batatas) has a high enough protein content (> 20%), so it can be used as a source of protein goat crossbreed of Ettawa. This research aims to determine the effect of feeding of sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea Batatas) as feed on goat body weight of goat crossbreed of Ettawa. This research has been conducted in February to March 2015, located in Wonua Raya village, Toari district, Kolaka Regency. This research uses 12 goats crossbreed of Ettawa which is divided into 12 plots of cages. In this research, four levels of feeding treatment were applied: regular feed/Gamal leaf (R0), 90% Gamal leaves + 10% sweet potato leaves (R1), 85% Gamal leaves + 15% sweet potato leaves (R2), 80 % Leaf Gamal + 20% sweet potato leaves (R3). In aquaculture, fish health problems are often encountered which can lead to failure in cultivation activities. One of the efforts to overcome the problem of disease in cultivation is done by providing immunostimulants. Sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas) are plants that have a short harvest period, cheap and rich in vitamins and antioxidants so that it can be used as a source of immunstimulants. This research was conducted to determine the effect of adding sweet potato leaves (Ipomea batats) to tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) feed on total leukocytes, phagocytic activity, hematocrit, and survival rate. The study was conducted by experimental method using a completely randomized design, with 4 treatment doses of sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) used were 0%, 5%, 10% and 15%, which were formulated in fish feed and each treatment was repeated 3 times.. The results showed that giving 10% of sweet potato (Ipomea batatas) leaves in feed had a significant effect on the non-specific immune system of tilapia, which could increase the highest total leukocyte value by 6600 mm3 but did not have a significant effect on the phagocytosis index. 96.3%, 31% hematocrit with 93% survival.

Purple sweet potato leaves (Ipomea batatas Ver.) has been proven to have anti-lithiasis effects in vitro in treating kidney stone disease. This is due to the high content of potassium in the leaves. The study aimed to analyze the effect of purple sweet potato leaf extract on kidney stone decay in male white rats induced by ethylene glycol 0.75% and ammonium chloride 2% for 10 days. In this study, 24 mice were divided into 6 groups: normal or without induction group, positive control, negative control, dose group 300 mg/200-gram body weight, 400 mg/200-gram body weight, and 500 mg/200-gram body weight. The parameters observed were calcium levels in the urine tested using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry, oxalate levels in urine tested using UV VIS Spectrophotometer. The results of this study indicate that purple sweet potato leaf extract at a dose of 500 mg/200-gram body weight can increase the levels of calcium and oxalate in the urine of rats compared with negative controls.

THE EFFECT OF SWEET POTATO LEAVES (IPOMEA BATATAS) ON THE PERFORMANCE OF RABBIT. This study aims to examine the extent to which the use of sweet potato leaves on the performance of rabbit cattle include feed consumption, body weight gain and feed conversion. The study used 20 rabbits of New Zealand White rabbit aged 4-6 weeks with initial body weight 400-600 g / tail. The design of this study using Completely Randomized Design with 5 treatments and 4 replications with the level of sweet potato leaves in the feed that is R0: 0%, R1: 25%, R2: 50%, R3: 75%, R4: 100%. The data were tested by multiform analysis, if there is a real effect of further test using Test of Honest Significance Difference (HSD). Phytochemical-enriched edible greens, sweet potato leaves (Ipomoea batatas L.), have become popular due to potential health benefits. However, the phytochemical contents in sweet potato leaves and their subsequent change over harvest stages and growth condition are mostly unknown. In this study, the anthocyanin profile and content in leaves of four sweet potato cultivars, i.e., white-skinned and white-fleshed Bonita, red-skinned and orange-fleshed Beauregard, red-skinned and white-fleshed Murasaki and purple-skinned and purple-fleshed P40, were evaluated. Fourteen anthocyanins were isolated and identified by HPLC-MSI/MS. The most abundant was cyanidin 3-caffeoyl-p-hydroxybenzoyl sophoroside-5-glucoside, which comprised up to 20% of the total anthocyanins. Of the young leaves (1st and 2nd slip cuttings), Bonita contained the highest anthocyanin content followed by P40. Of the mature leaves (vine stage), Beauregard had the greatest anthocyanin (592.5 ± 86.4 mg/kg DW) and total phenolic (52.2 ± 3 mg GAE/g DW). It should be noted that the lowest anthocyanin and total phenolic content of shoots were found in P40, while tubers of P40 contain the highest content of each. Furthermore, the increase in leaf anthocyanin content over the growth stages that was observed in three of the cultivars but not in P40. No significant difference of anthocyanin content was found in Beauregard leaves grown in the high tunnels when compared with that in the open field. This study demonstrated for the first time that anthocyanin levels were significantly changed in response to various growth stages but not high tunnel condition, indicating that the effect of anthocyanin biosynthesis in sweet potato leaves is highly variable and genotype specific.

AbstractPlants perceive and respond to volatile signals in their environment. Herbivore-infested plants release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can initiate systemic defense reactions within the plant and contribute to plant-plant communication. Here, for Ipomoea batatas (sweet potato) leaves we show that among various herbivory-induced plant volatiles, (E)-4,8–dimethyl–1,3,7-nonatriene (DMNT) had the highest abundance of all emitted compounds. This homoterpene was found being sufficient for a volatile-mediated systemic induction of defensive Sporamin protease inhibitor activity in neighboring sweet potato plants. The systemic induction is jasmonate independent and does not need any priming-related challenge. Induced emission and responsiveness to DMNT is restricted to a herbivory-resistant cultivar (Tainong 57), while a susceptible cultivar, Tainong 66, neither emitted amounts comparable to Tainong 57, nor showed reaction to DMNT. This is consistent with the finding that Spodoptera larvae feeding on DMNT-exposed cultivars gain significantly less weight on Tainong 57 compared to Tainong 66. Our results indicate a highly specific, single volatile-mediated plant-plant communication in sweet potato.

This study aims to determine the effect of solvent types on antioxidant activity of white sweet potato leaf extract (Ipomoea batatas L) and to obtain the most appropriate type of solvent to produce white sweet potato leaf extract with high antioxidant activity. The experimental design uses in this research was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with the treatment of solvent types methanol 80%, acetone 80%, ethanol 80% and aquades. The treatment was repeated four times so obtain 16 units of the experimental. Data were analysis of variance and followed by Duncan test if the treatment has a significant effect on measured variable. The results showed that, type of solvent had an obvious effect on antioxidant activity of white sweet potato leaves. Methanol was the best solvent in extract white sweet potato leaves with followed by yield was 32.11%, total flavonoids was 226.45 mg QE / g, total tannin was 16.58 mg TAE / g, vitamin C was 119.42 mg AAE / g and antioxidant activity was 82.42%.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk menguji pengaruh pemberian kombinasi herbal dengan mineral zink dalam ransum broiler yang diinfeksi Escherichia coli (E. coli). Dua ratus ekor d.o.c (day old chick) dibagi secara acak ke dalam lima perlakuan, masing-masing perlakuan diulang empat kali sehingga terdapat 20 unit percobaan, setiap unit percobaan terdiri dari 10 ekor d.o.c. Anak ayam percobaan dipelihara selama 35 hari. Ransum perlakuan terdiri dari R1 = Pakan basal/ ayamsehat (kontrolnegatif); R2 = Pakan basal/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli (kontrolpositif); R3= Pakan basal + serbukkunyit 1.5% + ZnO 180 ppm/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli; R4 = Pakan basal + serbukbawangputih 2.5% + ZnO 180 ppm/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli; R5 = Pakan basal + antibiotik/ ayamdiinfeksiE.coli.Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap. Peubah yang diamati konsumsi ransum, pertambahan bobot badan, dan konversi ransum. The treatments were R1 (basal diet as a negative control/ healhty chickens), R2 (basal diet as a positive control/ Escherichia coli challenged), R3 (basal diet +1.5% turmeric powder + ZnO 180 ppm/ Escherichia coli challenged), R4 (basal diet + 2.5% garlic powder + ZnO 180 ppm/ Escherichia coli challenged), and R5 (basal diet + antibiotic/ Escherichia coli challenged). Data were collected during 35 days, diet and water were offered ad libitum. The results of this research indicated that chickens fed basal diet + 1.5% turmeric powder + ZnO 180 ppm/ challenged Escherichia coli and chickens fed basal diet + 2.5% garlic powder +ZnO 180 ppm/ challenged Escherichia coli showed performances better than control .Keywords: Sweet potato leaves, Body weight, Consumtion ration, Convertion ration, Broiler
