scholarly journals Anthropometric Profile of UPSI Athletes During Masum 2018

This study aimed to determine the anthropometrics of athletes representing Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) during the Malaysian Inter-varsity Sports (MASUM) tournament, 2018. In this study, 50 athletes consisted of 15 hockey players, 12 netball players, 13 volleyball players and 10 volleyball players were recruited as participants. Percentage of body fat was measured using formula by Jackson, Pollock and Ward (1980) while somatotype were determine using the scale by Heath and Carter. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The results of the anthropometric profile indicate that almost all teams have an endo-meso (more muscular) body, but the results of the relationship showed that significant relationship between the anthropometric profile and the performance were only found in the bowling team, r = 0.13, p = 0.14, p < 0.05. For hockey, netball, and volleyball teams did not show significant relationship (r = 0.15, p = 0.74, p> 0.05), (r = 0.12, r = 0.64, p> 0.05), (r = 10, p = 0.71, p> 0.05) respectively. In conclusion, the overall anthropometric profile cannot be indicated as determinant of a team's performance at the MASUM 2018 tournament

Abstract. The aim of this work was to describe and study the relationship between anthropometric and conditional factors of under-21 high-performance beach volleyball players according to playing position. The sample consisted of 5 male teams (5 blockers and 5 defenders) belonging to Spanish men’s national beach volleyball team or participants in international tournaments. Anthropometric profile was assessed following the guidelines proposed by ISAK. The tests performed to assess conditional factors were: vertical jump (SJ, CMJ and ABK), 5- and 10-m sprint (S5m and S10m), agility test (AT) and overhead medicine ball throw in a standing position (OTSP) and on knees position (OTKP). Mann-Whitney U test was applied to compare blockers and defenders and Pearson correlation coefficient (r) was used to determine the relationships between anthropometric and conditional variables. The results showed that U21 Spanish beach volleyball players had lower values for height and body weight than international players of the same category. Regarding playing position, blockers showed higher values of height, weight, muscle mass and bone weight than defenders (p<0.05). The somatotype for blockers and defenders were classified as ecto-mesomorph. Relationships have been found between anthropometric variables (height, weight, bone, muscle and fat) and conditional factors. The conditional tests did not show significant differences between blockers and defenders except those which required to mobilize an external weight, in which case blockers showed a better performance.

The aim of this study is to examine player-coach relationships and its relevance to motivational processes. The participants of the study were 93 players who played in the matches qualifying for Turkish 1st Women’s Volleyball League in 2018. The study used Player-Coach Relationship Inventory and Motivation in Sports Scale as the data collection instruments. The data obtained were analyzed by using SPSS 20 software, descriptive statistics and Pearson Correlation analysis. The findings of the study revealed no statistically meaningful relationship between player-coach relationship and external motivation and amotivation. However, there was a meaningful relationship between player-coach relationship and internal motivation (r=, 246). Similarly, a meaningful relationship was found between “the duration of player-coach relationship” and the sub dimensions of player-coach relationship, which are “commitment” (r=, 293), “closeness” (r=, 325) and “complementarity” (r=, 325). In short, it can be concluded that as the relationship between players and the coach improves, motivation increases, and as the duration of this relationship increases, player-coach relationship is affected positively.
