Our Indian society is plagued with numerous social problems, such as illiteracy, dowry harassment, child abuse, female feticide, poor sanitation, malnutrition, casteism etc. From time immemorial many great philosophers, social reformers, activists and leaders have been trying to solve these social problems in their own perceived ways. Social Advertisements are a powerful tool for social change. Social advertising is about applying marketing and advertising principles to promote health and other social issues and bringing about positive behavioral change. Social advertising sells a behavioral change to a targeted group of individuals, making them accept a new behavior, reject a potential behavior, modify a current behavior and abandon an old behavior. In fact the state and central governments have been spending significant amounts of money on social advertising but the impact of such advertisements has not been studied in a systematic way. Hence a systematic study was undertaken across the length and breadth of Ananthapur district of Andhra Pradesh which included identifying target groups, distributing questionnaires, collecting data from the respondents and statistically analyzing the data to make the inference

Drawn upon field research in two peri-urban villages of Hanoi in 2014 and short re-visits recently, the research examines the widespread of gambling and other social issues in Hanoi’s urbanizing peri-urban communities which happened concurrently with the phenomenon of “land fever,” and at the time local villagers received compensation from land appropriation. The article aims to understand the impact of urbanization on these communities and the interface between urbanization and the increase of social problems. It argues that gambling, drug use, and other social problems have been existing in Vietnamese rural communities long before; however, when urbanization came, some people have higher chances to engage in these activities. Those are villagers who want to transform quickly into entrepreneurs or bosses by joining the “black credit” market and gambling. Together with middle-aged and old farmers who greatly relied on agricultural production and face difficulties in transforming their occupation, they formed the group of losers in the urbanization process. BACKGROUND Multiple sclerosis (MS) is one of the world’s most common neurologic disorders. Fatigue is one of most common symptoms that persons with MS experience, having significant impact on their quality of life and limiting their activity levels. Self-management strategies are used to support them in the care of their health. Mobile health (mHealth) solutions are a way to offer persons with chronic conditions tools to successfully manage their symptoms and problems. Gamification is a current trend among mHealth apps used to create engaging user experiences and is suggested to be effective for behavioral change. To be effective, mHealth solutions need to be designed to specifically meet the intended audience needs. User-centered design (UCD) is a design philosophy that proposes placing end users’ needs and characteristics in the center of design and development, involving users early in the different phases of the software life cycle. There is a current gap in mHealth apps for persons with MS, which presents an interesting area to explore. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to describe the design and evaluation process of a gamified mHealth solution for behavioral change in persons with MS using UCD. METHODS Building on previous work of our team where we identified needs, barriers, and facilitators for mHealth apps for persons with MS, we followed UCD to design and evaluate a mobile app prototype aimed to help persons with MS self-manage their fatigue. Design decisions were evidence-driven and guided by behavioral change models (BCM). Usability was assessed through inspection methods using Nielsen’s heuristic evaluation. RESULTS The mHealth solution More Stamina was designed. It is a task organization tool designed to help persons with MS manage their energy to minimize the impact of fatigue in their day-to-day life. The tool acts as a to-do list where users can input tasks in a simple manner and assign Stamina Credits, a representation of perceived effort, to the task to help energy management and energy profiling. The app also features personalization and positive feedback. The design process gave way to relevant lessons to the design of a gamified behavioral change mHealth app such as the importance of metaphors in concept design, negotiate requirements with the BCM constructs, and tailoring of gamified experiences among others. Several usability problems were discovered during heuristic evaluation and guided the iterative design of our solution. CONCLUSIONS In this paper, we designed an app targeted for helping persons with MS in their fatigue management needs. We illustrate how UCD can help in designing mHealth apps and the benefits and challenges that designers might face when using this approach. This paper provides insight into the design process of gamified behavioral change mHealth apps and the negotiation process implied in it.

The article considers social advertising as a communication resource of management. The interpretation of social advertising by Ukrainian and foreign scientists is given. The focus is on the differences between "social advertising" and "non-commercial advertising". It is noted that social advertising is used to more effectively manage and regulate social processes, disseminate important social and legal information, form the right public opinion and involve citizens in solving current problems in the social sphere of their lives. The article reveals the general problems of social advertising in Ukraine, reflects its reality and impact on modern Ukrainian society. Attention is focused on the fact that the current state of social advertising in Ukraine remains in its infancy, because there is no single governing body in the country, because there is a lack of experience, lack of information support and many other factors. Despite the publicity of the issue, demographic, economic, political and social issues, social advertising does not find significant support from the government and other bodies. Insufficient awareness of the specifics of the work and development of advertising has a negative impact on the mechanisms of improving existing problems in Ukrainian society, which in turn affects the lack of effective regulation of social processes. These trends emphasize the need to change the legal framework governing relations in the field of advertising, training of highly qualified professionals who will develop advertising, providing conditions to strengthen the impact of social advertising on the formation of high morals, ethical views in Ukrainian society. The analysis of the components of full-fledged social advertising is made and their content is revealed. Trends in the development and promotion of social advertising in Ukraine are revealed. It has been proven that the type of such advertising is needed in order to promote social ideas. In a developed society, social advertising is one of the tools to improve the management of various social spheres. In order to optimize the development of social advertising in Ukraine, the authors recommended to implement a number of organizational and legal measures. Conclusions from this study are made, suggestions for further development of this issue are given.

This chapter outlines the first four stages in the process of designing and delivering arts in health interventions. Using business models from industry, management, and health care, it provides a step-by-step guide to conceptualizing and planning effective arts in health interventions that meet a real need within health care. It shows how to scope national and local opportunities, identify specific challenges that the arts could address, select appropriate target groups, understand the needs of patients, public, and staff, undertake consultations, identify relevant research, develop initial ideas, plan for a pilot, and model the impact that the intervention could have. These steps will provide the foundation for a creative and novel intervention with the potential to have real impact and sustainability.

This chapter analyzes the impact on the population of the expansion of nightlife in Madrid from the 1880s on. More particularly, it studies public fears raised by alcoholism and flamenco that led to this music being identified with social disorder and immorality. The Fuencarral Street murder (1888), in which a flamenco aficionado was involved, shocked the public and triggered a campaign against flamenco and the culture associated with it, known as flamenquismo. Behind this campaign, however, was fear and hatred of rural immigrants from Andalusia, who transformed Madrid’s culture and elicited the opposition of the population most affected by the rise of hunger and deprivation in Madrid. At the turn of the twentieth century, this situation led to flamenquismo being used as a catchword to designate any social problems affecting Spain in the wake of the 1898 desastre.

This work reports the latest observations on the behavior of two Multigap Resistive Plate Chambers (MRPC) under wide high-luminosity exposures, which motivate the development and in-beam test of the sealed MRPC prototype assembled with low-resistive glass. The operation currently being monitored, together with previous simulation results, shows the impact of gas pollution caused by avalanches in gas gaps, and the necessity to shrink the gas-streaming volume. With the lateral edge of the detector sealed by a 3D-printed frame, a reduced gas-streaming volume of ~170 mL has been achieved for a direct gas flow to the active area. A high-rate test of the sealed MRPC prototype shows that, ensuring a 97% efficiency and 70 ps time resolution, the sealed design results in a stable operation current behavior at a counting rate of 3–5 kHz/cm2. The sealed MRPC will become a potential solution for future high luminosity applications.
