The role of cultural heritage in the socio-economic development of regions and communities is shown in the paper, namely, its importance for potential development opportunities of the tourism and recreational industry. The model of using cultural heritage at the regional and local levels with the purpose of creation of tourist and recreational cluster "Nevitsky Castle" is proposed. The methodology of attracting internal investments in the form of remittances of migrant workers, budget assignments of all levels, and small business resources for the development of the territory has been elaborated. The current state and features of the territorial organization of Zakarpatska Oblast tourist potential are analyzed. Tourism is proven to be one of the most profitable sectors of the world economy, which is developing most dynamically and is among the most important factors of socio-cultural development that contribute to improving the level and quality of life of the population. That is why attention is paid to the priority of the tourism and recreational industry in the economy of the region. Specific proposals for the implementation of public-private partnership based on the example of the tourist and recreational cluster "Nevitsky Castle" are developed in such a way that everyone gets their own benefit – an investor does not need to buy the land, the state guarantees the permitting and documentary support, creates an infrastructure component, and participates in the restoration of a cultural heritage object, while a private partner invests his own money and entrepreneurial experience, effectively manages his own project, involves modern technology, creates jobs and fills the budget. The creation of appropriate conditions in the real sector of the economy for the return of migrant workers and productive use of their savings and for the implementation of the President of Ukraine initiative "Come back and stay" and the Government Program of micro and small business lending is scientifically substantiated. The systemic use of cultural heritage as an important factor for the social, economic, and cultural development of territories of different administrative levels is recommended.

All this determines the differentiation of the developing tourist activities by the reason and purpose of a tourist’s journey. The topic being high on the agenda, the article examines the current state and trends in the development of tourism types in Ukraine by the purpose of a tourist’s journey. In particular, grounding on the statistics of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, the author has assessed the dynamics of distributing tourists served by tour operators, travel agents who are legal entities, and travel agents who are individual entrepreneurs, by purpose of a tourist’s journey and by tourism types for the period 2011-2020. Taking research by domestic and foreign scientists on the tourism issue, the theoretical approaches are highlighted to classifying types of tourism and interpreting such types as business, educational, health, and sports tourism. Having analyzed the peculiarities of the tourism sector development in Ukraine in 2011–2020 as for the tourism types identified by the purpose of a tourist’s journey, the author has come to conclusion that most tourists prefer journeys organized for leisure and recreation. Regional distribution of tourists served by tour operators and travel agents who traveled for leisure and recreation during 2019-2020 is analyzed, and the regions of Ukraine that are characterized by the highest percentage of tourists traveling for leisure and recreation are identified. A study of the tourism development trends in view of tourism types by the purpose of a tourist’s journey will help to identify priority areas, strengths and weaknesses of the tourism market, problems, threats, and barriers to tourism development, as well as potential opportunities that will effectively position Ukraine in the tourism market.

Tourism is fundamental to the economy of Wales, and the government tourism plan 2020–2025 centres on sustainable development. This paper presents a quantitative analysis of research undertaken by the Next Tourism Generation Alliance (NTGA) project in Wales evidencing sustainability skills gaps. Survey data collected from five tourism sectors, accommodation, food and beverage, destination management, visitor attractions, travel agents and tour operators, show that the highest green and social skills gaps were identified in food and beverage businesses, whilst accommodation reported the lowest skills gaps. The effect of the type of tourism sector, business size and job level on green skills gaps perceptions was found to be insignificant, which indicates that training in sustainability skills is considered important regardless of these variables. The effect of type of tourism activity on perceptions of social skills gaps including personal and communication was significant. Addressing skills gaps is crucial given the significance of the industry in the national economy and the need for recovery from COVID-19. Tourism is one of the worst affected industries in the pandemic, and global market research and policy guidance highlight the importance of sustainable tourism development to ensure a resilient recovery.

Abstract This chapter details the development of elephant tourism in Thailand. Following a logging ban enacted by the government in 1989, in response to devastating floods and loss of life brought about by unsustainable logging practices, elephants used in logging and their mahouts suddenly found themselves unemployed. From positions of high esteem, some 2000 elephants and their mahouts were forced to resort to begging on the streets of Thailand, in order to survive. Seeing this as an opportunity, Thai entrepreneurs began to offer visits to old logging camps that had been turned into attractions for tourists, beginning the involvement of elephants in the tourism sector. The welfare of the elephants at this stage was at best a secondary concern for many of the camp owners and operators. The authors note however that this is now changing. Interestingly, for the elephants in Thailand, the improvements in their welfare resulted from the actions of travel trade associations such as ABTA (the Association of British Travel Agents), travel trade channel members, and specialist animal welfare and ethnic community NGOs.

The current state of the Moscow Metro station of the first priority that became operational in 1935 does not allow it to be called a cultural heritage site. This is due to the fact that lighting modernisation carried out by the Moscow Metro was based on fluorescent lamps. Such lamps are more energy efficient compared to incandescent lamps, which were used in original lighting devices specified in the Station Lighting Project developed by architects and designers. However, they significantly changed the station appearance, transforming the originally designed station with entire well visible architectural tectonics?1 from the standpoint of lighting into a simple, flat, unremarkable, and little loaded station of the Moscow Metro./br> This paper describes a method of lighting reconstruction at Krasnoselskaya station by means of original lighting devices that meet modern standards and requirements for cultural heritage sites. The historical analysis on the development of the station lighting environment was conducted during its operation in order to understand what kind of station was conceived by its architects, what changes occurred with its lighting over time, and how it influenced the station appearance and safety of passenger transportation.
