Hospital procedures, such as infusions, are often associated with pain. Preschool-aged children who are hospitalized for infusions will often exhibit a strong fearful response because their concept of body integrity has not fully developed. One way to reduce the fear of infusion pain is by using stories as a distraction technique. The purpose of this study was to identify differences in the scale of pain between members of an intervention group, to which the distraction technique was applied, and a control group, to which it was not applied. The study used quasi-experimental methods, with intervention and control groups. The study was conducted on 46 preschool aged respondents (3-6 years old), divided into a 34 member intervention group and a 12 member control group and ran from September to December 2017 in one of the private hospitals in the East Bekasi. The research employed a questionnaire to collect demographic data and used the Wong-Baker Faces Pain Scale to assess pain levels. The data analysis technique used was the independent t-test. The results showed there was a difference of pain response between the intervention and control groups with P value < 0.05. Pediatric nurses are advised to use storytelling therapy as an option for providing atraumatic care intervention.  Keywords: Distraction Technique, Infusion installation, Pain, Stories, Preschool Abstrak Teknik Distraksi: Bercerita Menurunkan Nyeri Pada Anak Usia Pra Sekolah Selama Penggunaan Infus.

The aim of the study was to determine the effects of a multi-component community-based health promotion intervention on body mass index (BMI) z-scores and waist circumference (WC) in three- to eight-year-old children. A quasi-experimental design was adopted to evaluate the effects of the SoL intervention involving three intervention and three control communities. The 19-month intervention was based on the supersetting approach and was designed to promote healthier eating and physical activity among children and their families. BMI z-scores and WC were measured at baseline and follow-up. At baseline, 238 (54%) and 214 (51%) of all eligible children were measured from intervention and control, respectively. The change over time in the BMI z-scores of children from the intervention group was significantly different from that of the control group (p = 0.001). BMI z-scores increased over time in the intervention group in contrast to the control group, whose BMI z-scores decreased (difference in change between groups 0.19 z-scores 95% CI 0.08, 0.30). No significant differences were observed for WC. The results showed no favourable effects of the intervention of Project SoL on BMI z-scores and WC in children. Further studies based on a larger sample size and a longer intervention duration are needed.

Project GREEN (Garden Resources for Environmental Education Now!) is an educational tool to assist in the teaching of environmental education at the elementary school level. Project GREEN is different from many current educational practices because its major goal is to provide an interdisciplinary approach to environmental education by infusing activities centered around a hands-on tool, “the garden.” The main goal of this project included evaluating whether students participating in Project GREEN were developing positive environmental attitudes. Three schools throughout Texas participated in the study. Approximately 200 students were evaluated; 100 participants served as the experimental group and 100 non-participants served as the control group. Students were evaluated using the Children's Environmental Response Inventory (CERI), which measures students' attitudes about nature and human dominance over nature. This questionnaire also contained a section for biographical information. Comparisons were made between the experimental and control groups, as well as between gender, age, ethnicity, and time in the garden. Results examine the relationship between the garden program and environmental attitudes for both control and experimental groups.
