Currently, the journals in the field of social sciences seem to emphasize the preference that authors submit for evaluation and publication manuscripts in the form of research articles with empirical data, following the model of exact sciences and, preferably, with the possibility of research replication. The scholarly publication based on reasoned logical argumentation seems to be increasingly relegated to the sidelines. This letter argues that questioning preconceived ideas and contributing to thinking is critical and that its publication, after the quality and relevance of personal argumentation is assessed, should take place even without respecting the replication of the research model.

The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data on learning achievement in Social Sciences on the position in the family. The study was conducted in Grade 2 of State Primary School 01, Morning School, in Cilandak Timur. The study applied active, creative, effective, and joyfull learning (PAKEM) approach. The subjects were Grade 2 students in the second semesterof 2008/2009 school year. As an action research, the spiral model or S cycle introduced by Kemmis and Mc Taggard was used. The steps included planning, acting, observing, reflecting, and evaluating, as the bases for the following cycle. The result of the study showed there is a significant learning achievement improvement of the students at the end of the second cycle. The study indicates PAKEM approach can be applied as one of the solution of improving the students’ learning achievement in Social Sciences particularly in Grade 2 of Primary School.

The way of learning and teaching has been improved and the term of learning is developed. Generally, many researchers try to identify the important factors that affect the usage of multimedia in teaching and learning. However, there are few studies in this area specifically in Kuwait. Therefore, this study comes to fill this gab and identify the factors that influence the usage of multimedia technologies in teaching English language in Kuwait. Consequently, a research model is developed. To evaluate the proposed model, questionnaire is developed and the empirical data is collected and analyzed. The results reveal that there are seven factors that have an impact in using multimedia in teaching English subject, which are: facilitation, motivation, performance, behavioral, social, pedagogical, and effort factors. Moreover, the study proves that instructors have positive perceptions of multimedia technologies, but still need more supplements and supports.

The present study analyses the research articles which focused on international students in China between 1998 and 2018. The data were retrieved from the Chinese Social Sciences Citation Index (CSSCI) database and visualized using Citespace 5.0.R7. This paper analyses the key authors, research institutes, disciplines, publishing agency, and co-citation keywords to trace emergent topics and new trends of the research on international students in China. The findings facilitate an in-depth understanding of the research hotspots over the past two decades. This paper has implications for further research on international students in China.

The conclusion section of the article is an essential part as it is the last chance and to conclude the article. But this very essential part of the article was usually considered a part of the Discussion section of a research article, the one exception being Yang and Allison's (2003) study of the final section where they found conclusion as part-genre. For current research, the researcher randomly chose 15 high impact factor research articles across three different disciplines from social sciences. All the conclusion sections were selected from high impact factor research articles, published between 2008 and 2013. A Four-move model adapted from Yang and Allison (2003) and Bunton (2005) models are used to analyze the selected corpus for the current research. The analysis shows that there is an agreement between both corpora in classifying the moves as obligatory or optional. While Move 1, summarizing, and Move 2, evaluating, are obligatory, Move 4, future research is conventional; however, there is a difference in Move 3. M3, practical implications are optional in social sciences research articles. However, there are also several variations between the conclusion section in the corpus and the suggested model of analysis. The study concludes that these variations between the conclusion and the proposed model indicate that writers should choose the moves that best serve their purposes rather than including all the moves.

Nguyen, Nguyen, Ho, Ho, and Vuong (2019) have recently published a chapter entitled “Scientific publishing: the point of no return” in the book edited by Vuong and Tran (2019). The work highlights the positive impact of Circular 08 on scientific research and publishing landscape in Vietnam. In particular, Circular 08 imposes more stringent requirements on doctoral qualifications, including having publications in ISI/Scopus-indexed journals or peer-reviewed international conferences. By using empirical data and social observations, the authors show several improvements in scientific research and publishing after the issue of Circular 8 and eventually, provide important projections for the future of scientific publishing in Vietnam.

Regardless of multiple efforts carried out across many countries to disseminate the ideas and the practice of open science, most scholars in the early 2020s do not self-archive their research articles and do not publish research papers in preprint form. Having received no education and training on open science, researchers are often puzzled on what to do, in practice, to start reaping the benefits of open science. This study offers a succinct vademecum on how to benefit from the open science approach to scholarly communication, no matter whether in natural or in humanistic and social sciences.

In the last five years the authors have studied applicability of citation analysis to the problem of detection of translated plagiarism. During these years we verified the efficiency of this method and carried out several applied studies. It enabled us to detect a number of illegal uses of borrowed foreign texts in several research areas. We showed that the method is more efficient in natural and exact sciences as compared to social sciences. Besides, it is more appropriate when analyzing research articles, reviews and reports as compared to other document types.

The article is devoted to the problem of the demarcation of social sciences from social philosophy. The author proposes to model the relations between these two disciplines as a continuum instead of binary opposition - a continuum in which certain authors and concepts are located depending on the nature of their statements (descriptive or prescriptive/evaluative) and the amount of empirical data involved. To illustrate a number of this continuum’s positions and features, the concept of the sacred is brought: emerging in Modern history as a cultural idea, in the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries in the works of French sociologists it becomes an empirical model that describes both the effect of social solidarity and the particular forms of religious existence. However, later, in the College of Sociology and in the works of such thinkers as G. Bataille, R. Caillois, etc., the concept acquires value meanings and becomes socio-philosophical. The absence of a clear boundary between the two statement formats, it makes possible both the “drifting” from one to another over time (M. Eliade) and the ambiguity of any critics of social science from social philosophy’s position and vice versa. At the same time, the historical “load” of the concept could be discarded in order to use it within the framework of “pure” social science or philosophy.
