This study aims to find sufi values in the poems of Ahmad Kamal Abdullah (Kemala), a modern Malaysian poet. In this study, the writer uses sufi literary theory to analyse poems by Kemala. The poems are taken from three collections of Kemala's poems, namely Ziarah Tanah Kudup (2006), Syurga ke Sembilan (2009), and Dhikr Serenades; Titir Zikir (2010). This study of sufi elements is the poems of Kemala employs the theory of Seyyed Hossein Nasr and concerns three major elements of tasawwuf (sufi mysticism), that is, the Divine, Mankind and spiritual wellbeing. The conclusion that can be drawn from this study is that the poems of Kemala are inseparable from sufism. The Divine is, in Kemala's poems, an aim in mankind's life journey. The Divine in this case is personified as light or "Nur". Mankind, in Kemala's poems, is depicted as the Salik or traveller in search of an end to his journey, which is the Divine Himself. While spiritual wellbeing is about the search and contemplation of human life.

Edward Muybridge was an Anglo-American photographer, well known for his pioneering contributions in photography and his invention of the “zoopraxiscope,” a forerunner of motion pictures. However, this 19th-century genius, with two original patents in photographic technology, made outstanding contributions in art and neurology alike, the latter being seldom acknowledged. A head injury that he sustained changed his behavior and artistic expression. The shift of his interests from animal motion photography to human locomotion and gait remains a pivotal milestone in our understanding of patterns in biomechanics and clinical neurology, while his own behavioral patterns, owing to an injury to the orbitofrontal cortex, remain a mystery even for cognitive neurologists. The behavioral changes he exhibited and the legal conundrum that followed, including a murder of which he was acquitted, all depict the complexities of his personality and impact of frontal lobe injuries. This article highlights the life journey of Muybridge, drawing parallels with Phineas Gage, whose penetrating head injury has been studied widely. The wide sojourn of Muybridge also illustrates the strong connections that he maintained with Stanford and Pennsylvania universities, which were later considered pinnacles of higher education on the two coasts of the United States.

Sociologically, literature is a reflection of culture environment and as a dialectical text between the author and his social condition. Due to this fact, to understand and interpret literary works, we not only need to know the literary theory but also the external problems, such as, those of religion, society, and politics. In other words, it can be said that a literary work is a very complicated work because basically it is the reflection of human life with various dimensions that influence it.

Manâzilus-Sâ`irîn ilâ al-Haqqil-Mubîn is a literary work of tasawuf which contains 100 steps of climbing to the pleasure of Allah which must be passed by man to seek His pleasure. The 100 maqâmât is divided into ten levels, each level there are ten maqam, and each maqam has their own meanings and functions. For the purposes of this study, only 20 ladders were studied due to space and time constraints. The problem in this research is how the researchers interpret and analyze the 20 steps of climbing based on the perspective of Sufism. The theory used in this research is the Islamic literary theory Taufiq Al-Hakim model that says that Islamic literature comes from Allah, dimension of worship, and mission of Islamic da'wah. Islamic literature comes from God because God is the source of all sources. The method of analysis used in this research is tasawuf method and moral method. The tasawuf method is directed at how the reader expresses the elements of the formal object contained in material objects to hone and educate the human soul and heart in worshiping God and in associating with fellow human beings. The moral method is oriented on how literature regulates human experience and assesses the extent to which experience affects its activities, namely the literary activity that produces Islamic literary works containing contents of Sufism that are suitable for the guidance of human life. The superiority of this book is also seen in the unique writing techniques because the author is able to integrate the verses of the Qur'an with his imagination so that this book of tasawuf looks strong from the way of processing the substance and from the side of the moral message. Thus, the teachings of Sufism in this book become more practical and easier to understand by the reader

The article argues that classical concepts in literary theory such as “motif” and “theme” have been undertheorized in recent decades. They have been taken for granted as “ordinary language”-vocabulary in no need of conceptual clarification. But the dimension of content in a literary text cannot be sufficiently theorized without precise definitions of “motif” and “theme”. The article claims that the theme is always an abstract concept, an idea, extrapolated from the text by its interpreter, whereas the motif presents itself in the text as an observable constellation between mimetic elements from the human life world that can be traced with variations through multiple texts or other fictional modes. The motif can be more or less specified and will always be located somewhere on a continuum between the abstract theme and the individual text. The article then tries to enrich this understanding of the motif by confronting it with the textual theories of Paul Ricoeur and James Phelan. It is furthermore discussed whether the critique of ideology in the Marxist years played a role in the marginalization of the motif. The relevance of the reconstructed concept is finally demonstrated in an outline of an analytical approach to three novels (The “Hvium”-trilogy) by the Danish author Ida Jessen and it is concluded that this type of approach enables observations that would have been less obvious entering the textual universes on higher or lower levels than the motif being always in between the theme and the text.

Carbon is one of the major elements by which organic compounds cannot be imagined. Its compounds are very useful in human life as well as for nature. For example, carbon dioxide is used during photosynthesis in plants and CFCs is used in manufacturing of aerosol sprays and as refrigerants. In contrast, serious harmful effects are seen with over exposure or with increasing in level of its compounds. Use of carbon compounds awareness is necessary for its use in different purposes. Carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide released by the complete combustion of fossils and by automobile exhaust causes carbon pollution along with other various causes. Reuse and recycling of carbon compounds minimizes its pollution. Carboxy hemoglobin formed by combination of carbon monoxide with red blood cell is also more fatal. As we know, different gases formed due to the combination of carbon with other elements causes various changes like climate change, destruction of heritage goods (acid rain), different human risk, flooding etc. So, pollution of carbon should be managed before it causes any huge harmful effects. Finally, carbon related pollution leads to global warming, greenhouse effects, ozone layer depletion, ocean acidification, acid rain, climate  change and also fatal to human beings.

Abstract Introduction: The article aims to provide information on the Kawa Model and its application in occupational therapy. The model uses the metaphor of a river to depict a human life journey. Particular constructs connected with a river such as water, river side walls, driftwood or rocks represent elements of individuals′ social environment as well as their resources and limitations. Case study: The application of the Kawa Model in occupational therapy makes it possible to recognize and interpret the state of a patient taking into account social and cultural contexts. It also helps to structure an individual’s narration. Description: The situation of a patient diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia is analysed according to the presented model and shown in both graphic and descriptive versions. Conclusions: As well as analysing theoretical aspects of implementing the Kawa Model, the present study shows elements of practical applications of this concept when working with a schizophrenic patient.

Spiritual wellbeing harmonises several dimensions of human life and is essential for coping with diseases. Acute coronary syndromes (ACS) cause crisis in physical, psychological aspects and spiritual dimensions of patients’ lives. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of spiritual wellbeing and its dimensions in patients with ACS. For this, a cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted. For data collection, Paloutzian and Ellison’s Spiritual Wellbeing Self-report Questionnaire was filled in by 364 patients with ACS. Patients referred to the cardiac wards of five teaching hospitals in Tehran between August 2011 and April 2012 were recruited using the convenience sampling method. The data were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that the majority of patients (97.9%) benefited from moderate spiritual wellbeing, although religious wellbeing was higher than existential wellbeing in the patients. It is concluded that nurses are required to improve their cultural and contextual knowledge of patients’ spiritual wellbeing to meet patients’ needs in nursing care. Spiritual beliefs can influence coping with diseases, help patients to find meaning and purpose in life to deal with problems resulting from physical and mental illnesses. These findings can be used to suggest the incorporation of religious aspects of spirituality into care programmes designed to improve the quality of life of patients with ACS.
