A language is a living tool that allows people to communicate. Human beings learn a foreign language while preserving their language to maintain their vitality. S/he teaches his/her language on one hand while s/he learns a foreign language. Teaching Turkish as a foreign language needs to be reconsidered in the light of new developments. In this study, while introducing the “science-based reading approach,” the contribution of this approach to students’ reading comprehension skills and its effect on academic achievement were examined. Experimental and control groups were formed, and pre-test and post-test were administered to these groups in this study. Microsoft Excel and SPSS-21 software programs were used in the analysis of the data obtained from the achievement tests. While there was no difference between the experimental and control groups in pre-tests, a significant difference was found in the post-test achievement test of the experimental and control groups in favor of the experimental group. Based on this result, it can be said that the science-based reading approach has a positive effect on students’ reading comprehension skills. It is expected from Turkish language teachers to conduct new researches with different groups to obtain more accurate results and to compare the results.

This research aimed to investigate the effect of employing the RAP as a strategy to develop the reading comprehension skills among seventh graders in Gaza governorates. For the purpose of the study, the quasi-experimental approach was used on a sample of (80) female students from Rafah Martyrs' Preparatory Girls' School divided into two equivalent groups. The experimental group included (44) female students, while the control one included (36) female students. The tools of data collection were a checklist of reading comprehension skills and reading comprehension test. To analyze the collected data, t-test was conducted. Furthermore, to examine the effectiveness of RAP strategy in developing reading comprehension skills, the effect size was measured. The results indicated that there were statistically significant differences at (0.05 ≥ (in the mean scores of the reading comprehension skills in favor of the experimental group. In light of these results, the researchers recommended that English teachers use RAP strategy to develop reading comprehension skills for students.

The aim of this study is to discover the effect of applying SQ3R method in reading comprehension. Experimental research design is used as the research method. This research took place at MTS AMIN DARUSSALAM MEDAN. There were 2 classes chosen as the sample with 32 students in each class. The classes were divided into two groups namely experimental and control group. The experimental group taught by using SQ3R method and the control group was taught by using conventional method. The instrument used to collect the data was a set of multiple choice tests, which divided as pre test and post test. The result of the research was analyzed by using t-test formula. The result showed that t-test was higher than t-table ( 3,93> 2,00 ) at the level of significant 0,05 with degree of freedom (df) 60. It means that hypothesis alternative (Ha) is accepted which shows that SQ3R method significantly improves the student’s reading comprehension.

Based on a mixed method research design, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of applying scaffolding strategies in enhancing reading comprehension skills of female students at King Abdulaziz University in the city of Jeddah in Saudi Arabia. The participants of the study were thirty-three female students at the preparatory year program (PYP) who were registered at the proficiency level 104 (B1/Threshold level on the Common European Framework of reference for language; CEFR). They were divided into two groups: Seventeen students in the control group and sixteen students in the experimental group. Both groups were exposed to the same reading lessons but with the experimental group exposed to scaffolding strategies. Prior to the treatment, a pretest was administered to both groups. Once the treatment was accomplished, a posttest was administered to investigate the effect of applying scaffolding strategies on developing reading comprehension skills. Furthermore, qualitative data was collected via open-ended questionnaire. The results of the study indicated that there was a statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest of the experimental group in favor of the posttest. Furthermore, students showed a positive attitude to the scaffolding technique as a motivation factor to their learning. Conclusions and recommendations for further research are given at the end of this study.

This study was conducted as an attempt to discover the effect of applying skimming technique on Grade XI students’ reading comprehension. It was an experimental research. The subject was students of Grade XI, Private Senior High School (Sekolah Menengah Atas Swasta: SMA) Methodist-7, which consisted of 60 students. The research was divided into two groups: experimental and control groups. The instrument used to collect the data was reading comprehension test. To obtain the reliability of the test, the writer applied Kuder Richardson 21 formula. The result of the reliability was 0.89. The data were analyzed by using t-test formula. The analyze showed that the scores of the students in the experimental group were significantly higher than the scores of the students in the control group at the level of significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom (df) 60 , t-observed value 3.71 > t-table value 2.00. Based on the reliability of the test, it was found that the test was reliable. The findings indicated that using Skimming Technique significantly affected the students’ reading comprehension. So, English teachers are suggested to use Skimming Technique in order to improve students’ reading comprehension.   Keywords: Skimming Technique, Reading Comprehension, Experimental Research.

The current study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of PQ4R Strategy in developing reading comprehension skills of the English Language Course among second intermediate grade students. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design employing two groups (experimental and control). The design included an independent variable (PQ4R Strategy) and a dependent variable (reading comprehension skills). The sample of the study consisted of 2nd Intermediate Grade Students from schools in Al kamel (N=47). The students were divided into two groups experimental and control. The experimental group (N=23) was taught the reading comprehension texts of the super Goal 3 book through PQ4R Strategy. The control group (N=24) was taught the same texts through the traditional method. To achieve the goal of the research, a guide was prepared for the teacher to implement the strategy and reading comprehension test designed by the researcher. Results revealed that PQ4R Strategy had a positive effect on the students' reading comprehension. In light of the study results, the researcher recommended the following: using PQ4R Strategy for developing reading comprehension skills of English language students’.
