Analogy reasoning is the process of thinking logically and analytically in drawing conclusions based on the similarities between the two things being compared. The purpose of this study is to describe the analogy reasoning of students in solving mathematical problems in terms of high, medium, and low mathematical abilities. This research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out in class IX-H of SMP Negeri 5 Surabaya in the 2019/2020 school year by 33 students and each subject was selected for each category of mathematical ability. The results of the analysis of Problem Solving Tests and interviews show that students with high, medium, and low mathematical abilities mention information that is known and what is asked for logical reasons on the source and target problem, and explain the relations between the information. This indicates that each subject has an encoding process. Each subject also mentions and explains the concepts used to solve source problems, which means each subject has an inferring process. The difference is, subjects with high mathematical ability mention the same concepts between the source problem and the target problem and explain the concepts used to solve the target problem, then students can complete the target problem. This means that the subject is doing two other processes, namely mapping and applying. Subjects with medium mathematical abilities are mentioning the same concept between the source problem and the target problem but cannot explain the concept used in the target problem. However, the subject only did one of the two indicators in the mapping process, so the analogy reasoning process carried out by the subject was encoding and inferring. While students with low mathematical abilities are stopped in the encoding and inferring processes. Keywords: Analogy Reasoning, Mathematical Abilitiy

AbstractMath is very important to develop students' thinking skills and instill character education on students with abilities so that learners are expected to survive in an uncertain and competitive . However, to date most of the students do not like and even hate math because math is something they feel boring and intimidating . there is evidence of the general mathematical problems such as low national average NEM , low competitiveness in the international arena as well as the lack of interest in learning mathematics . Many efforts have been made by experts of mathematics education in Indonesia, even in developed countries also do a lot of innovations in education, especially in mathematics . Indonesia is in the midst popularized Realistic Mathematics EducationIndonesia or abbreviated PMRI. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method that will generate descriptive data in the form of words written or spoken of the subject being observed. Data collection techniques used is to use the method of observation , questionnaire , interview, and documentation . The results of this study that PMRI Developments in West Bandung West Java has not been fully developed as expected when first introduced in Indonesia PMRI . It can be seen that only a few PMRI apply themselves in school . At this present time LPTKs - LPTK already begun rarely held pelatiha / workshops , seminars and study also the theme PMRI . Then also supported that the lack of support from the government regarding PMRI . Thus, PMRI in its development as a whole has not spread in Bandung Raya .

Background. Student reasoning in learning mathematics contributes significantly to the achievement of student mathematics learning outcomes. The main objective of this study is to investigate the process of reversible reasoning in students for inverse problems, in the case of Adjie (Ad). The research method used to reveal the reversible reasoning in Adjie's case using descriptive qualitative research methods. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling technique where the research sample was selected based on reversible reasoning criteria. Retrieval research data uses the results of students' mathematical work, think aloud, interviews, and the components that cause reversible reasoning. The results of our study found that the process begins with an obstacle that causes Ad to be unable to continue the resolution process, resulting in a metacognition process by analyzing the problem again analytically and developing other heuristic strategies. Ad shows a change in perspective where he initially interpreted inverse as the act of swapping independent and dependent variables and switched to interpreting inverse as the opposite of a function process involving analogy and image representation. The contribution of this research provides knowledge that reversible reasoning can occur in understanding and solving mathematical problems in inverse material.

The success of students in taking mathematics lessons also greatly affects the factor of their initial mathematical abilities. Students' initial mathematical abilities are prerequisite abilities that students have before participating in the learning material that will be given. Therefore, students' initial knowledge is indeed an important part of students so that they have good abilities in solving a mathematical problem. (Depdiknas, 2005) states that students' initial knowledge is important for teachers to know before starting with their learning. In addition, students' initial mathematical abilities are also useful as a foothold in the beginning of each student's mathematics so that the teacher will find it easier determine a method or strategy that is suitable for use in the classroom so that the learning that is carried out will be more effective and efficient, (Fatimah, 2016: 13). The results of a preliminary study conducted on class VII teachers of SMPIT Ulil Albab Pematangsiantar shows that teachers have not identified students' initial mathematical abilities as a supporting factor for the success of learning mathematics. The same thing was expressed by (Suprapta, Suharta, & Irawan, 2016: 69) yang stated that most teachers tend to directly explain the subject matter to be discussed without wanting to know the ability of students' prior knowledge. Even though good learning provides opportunities for students to connect initial knowledge with new knowledge on the material being studied, train students' skills and abilities in the classroom.
