AbstractSocial determinants of health frameworks are standard tools in public health. These frameworks for the most part omit a crucial factor: the family. Socioeconomic status moreover is a prominent social determinant of health. Insofar as family functioning is poorer in poor families and family structure and functioning are linked to health, it is critical to consider the pathways between these four constructs. In this correspondence, we reflect on how empirical studies of this conceptual nexus mirror two causal models. We conclude by reflecting on future directions for research in this field.

Background: Chronic liver disease (CLD) is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is accountable for a multifaceted disease encumbrance upsetting the psychological, physical, and economic health of not only the patients but also their caregivers. Objectives: The study purposes to cover the economic aspect of CLD to comprehend the financial burden imposed on the patients. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi, Pakistan. The CLD patients presenting in gastroenterology clinics were recruited, and their socio-demographic, financial, and disease-related information including Model for End-stage Liver Disease (MELD) score and Child Turcotte Pugh (CTP) scores were collected. Out of 190 CLD patients enrolled, 127 (67.2%) were males. The mean age was 50.09 years. Variables assessed include self-perceived social/economic status, self-perception of disease responsibility for worsening of social/economic situation, the impact of the disease on economic status due to medical expense, the impact of economic status on treatment compliance due to medical expenses, impact of severity of disease on socioeconomic status and treatment compliance, and impact of gender on disease status and treatment compliance. Results: Regardless of the disease duration, CLD significantly impacted a patient’s life, as 81% and 69% of the patients blamed their disease responsible for the worsening of social and economic conditions, respectively. In our study, 85% of patients had consumed all savings during their course of illness, and 67% had to borrow money for medical expenses. Nearly half of the patients had to leave or cut short their medicines, skip the physician's appointment, or defer their children's education. One-third of patients had unpaid medical and utility bills or even skipped their meals. The severity of disease affected the socioeconomic status significantly (89% in CTP class C vs. 40% in CTP class A). Patients with worsening socioeconomic status had significantly higher MELD scores as compared to those with stable socioeconomic status. Conclusions: Chronic liver disease imposes incredible socioeconomic encumbrance on patients and the family unit, and CLD associated expenditures influence the family unit’s everyday working and therapeutic compliance, which is directly linked to the severity of disease expressed in terms of CTP and MELD scores.

This study aimed at examining the differences between Chinese youths with hearing loss (HL) and with typical hearing (TH) in emotion understanding (EU), parental emotional expressivity, and the associations between EU and parental emotional expressivity. The participants were 282 youths with HL (14.58 ± 3.42 years old) and 350 youths with TH (11.69 ± 2.49 years old). EU was measured by four visual-mode tasks, of which two involve language comprehension while the others do not. Parents reported positive and negative emotional expressivity on the Self-Expressiveness in the Family Questionnaire. Covariates were controlled for including socioeconomic status, parent gender, youth gender, age, intelligence, and teacher-reported comprehension difficulties. Results showed that the four EU tasks were more challenging for the youths with HL than for the youths with TH. The interaction effect of the two groups × 4 tasks was not significant, suggesting that the differences between the two groups of youths in EU were generally similar across the four tasks. The parents of the youths with HL did not differ from the parents of the youths with TH in how often they displayed positive and negative emotional expressivity. Multigroup regression analyses revealed that negative emotional expressivity was negatively related to EU in the youths with HL but not in the youths with TH. However, these two regression coefficients were not significantly different. Positive emotional expressivity was not related to EU in either group. In conclusion, this study extends the knowledge about the EU of Chinese youths with HL and emotion-related socialization of the parents of these youths.

The present study explored factors correlated with family competence in families with paternal alcohol abuse ( N = 20). Family competence is measured by the Family Competence Scale in the Beavers Systems Model of Family Functioning. Based on a review of the literature, socioeconomic status, parents' psychological symptoms, and drinking behaviour were selected as possible correlates of family competence. The findings indicated that family competence was correlated with both parents' reports of psychological symptoms as measured by SCL–90. The strongest correlate of family competence was, however, the socioeconomic status of the family. The only aspect of drinking behaviour significantly correlated with family competence was severity of the fathers' alcohol abuse. These results indicate the importance of including individual factors, family factors, and socioeconomic measures in the assessment of families with paternal alcohol abuse.

Forty-one students from middle grades, some gifted and some not, some with experience with divorce in their families and some who were not, were administered a series of interviews, produced writing samples, and were given a subtest of the Defining Issues test. All groups saw the family as an important unit for them and its break up a serious matter regardless of whether they had personally experienced divorce. The most commonly reported theme in the stories was self blame, and there was hope that the separated parents would reunite. The gifted students gave longer stories and were able to take the perspective of adults as well as children in their stories. The gifted students also showed a stronger desire to want to understand the reasons for the dissolution of the marriage and, as might be expected, showed a more advanced level of moral reasoning. Additional variance, however, was contributed by the socioeconomic status of the family and the particular school attended making these findings merely suggestive and calling for more detailed investigation into the special coping skills against crisis demonstrated by gifted students.

For any instructive organization, understudies are generally significant. Colleges and schools have no an incentive without students. The instructive cycle is an incorporated interaction including the family, the school and the whole local area to arrive at viable yields. There are a number of factors that negatively affect at-risk students' retention in school and graduate such as socioeconomic status. Phenomenon of dropout where thousands of students dropped out is prevalent and constant in urban schools across the United States (Brown, 2015). This research is important for academic reason; it gives academic practitioners vital information that can be utilized to develop the education. The information was collected by interviews questions with students. The information collected were analyzed by using coding, theme and sub-nodes with Nvivo program. The research showed that the factors affect in Retention of secondary stage’s students in Al Ain.

Sanitation is intentional behavior in empowering clean life that has the purpose of preventing humans from being in direct contact with dirt and other hazardous waste materials in the hope of maintaining and improving human health. The use of latrines as a place to dispose of human waste is very necessary to avoid and reduce various types of environmental pollution and transmission of diseases, and can support the creation of a clean and healthy environment. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and socioeconomic status of the family head with ownership of family latrines in Gunung Agung Village, Argamakmur City, North Bengkulu. The design of this study uses analytical survey with Cross Sectional approach. The population taken was all family heads in Gunung Agung Village, Argamakmur City, North Bengkulu. Sampling in this study were 85 samples, using proportional random sampling technique, namely 66 samples that had family latrines and 19 samples that did not have family latrines. Data collection in this study uses primary and secondary data with data analysis techniques carried out by univariate and bivariate analysis with Chi-Square test through SPSS program. The results obtained: from 85 household head respondents, it can be seen that there are 66 families (77.6%) who have family latrines, there are 42 families (49.4%) have a sufficient level of knowledge, there are 56 households (65.9%) with the status of Prosperous    Family I. This study shows that there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and socioeconomic status of the head of the family with ownership of family latrines in Gunung Agung Village, Argamakmur City, North Bengkulu. Keywords: knowledge of family heads, ownership of family latrines, socio-economic status

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kontribusi 1) status sosial ekonomi keluarga terhadap prestasi belajar sejarah; 2) sikap kebangsaan siswa terhadap prestasi belajar sejarah; dan 3) status sosial ekonomi keluarga dan sikap kebangsaan secara bersama-sama terhadap prestasi belajar sejarah. Metode penelitian yang di-gunakan adalah metode survei dengan desain korelasional. Populasi penelitian 980 siswa. Sampel penelitian 245 siswa yang di-ambil dengan teknik random sampling. Pengumpulan data mengguna-kan tes dan kuesioner. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik korelasi dan regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) kontribusi positif dan signifikan status sosial ekonomi keluarga ter-hadap prestasi belajar sejarah; 2) kontribusi positif dan signifikan sikap kebangsaan terhadap prestasi belajar sejarah; 3) kontribusi positif dan signifikan status sosial ekonomi keluarga dan sikap kebangsaan terhadap prestasi belajar sejarah pada siswa SMU Muhammadiyah Kota Surakarta. Kata kunci: status sosial ekonomi, sikap kebangsaan, prestasi belajar sejarah ______________________________________________________________CONTRIBUTION OF FAMILY’S SOCIO-ECONOMIC STATUS AND NATIONALISM ATTITUDE TOWARD HISTORY LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT Abstract The study aims to determine: 1) family socioeconomic status on history learning achievement; 2) nationalism attitude toward students’ history learning achievement; and 3) family socio-economic status and nationalism attitude together towards achievement history. The research method used was a survey method with a correlational design. The study population was 980 students. 245 students sample were taken with random sampling technique. Data were collectied by using tests and questionnaires. The technique of data analysis used correlation and regression techniques. The results show that contribution of family socioeconomic status on history learning achievement was 9,02%. Contributions of nationalism attitudes toward achievement in learning history was 5.59% and the contribution of family socioeconomic status and attitudes nationalities together towards achievement history was 2.13%. From the result it can be concluded that there is a significant and positive contribution of 1) socio-economic status of the family; 2) nationalism attitudes; and3) socio-economic status of the family and national attitudes toward students learning history achievement at SMU Muhammadiyah Surakarta.Keywords: socioeconomic status, nationalitism attitude, history learning achievement

Background and Aim: Hearing loss can have disabling effects on all aspects of children’s life and demographic factors of families can have significant effects on children’s auditory deve­lopment. The main aim of the study was deter­mining the effects of socioeconomic and educa­tion level on auditory behaviors of hearing-impaired children. Methods: The study was cross sectional descrip­tive-analytic study and was conducted on 207 parents of children under age of four years with native Persian speaking parents with literacy skill. Their hearing impairment was identified before the first month of age. Early occurrence of hearing loss was considered to exclude any effe­cts of early exposure to normal auditory stimuli on the outcome measurements. The children had at least 3-month experience with the cochlear implant (CI) after best fitting and adaptation to their device at the time of the study. Samples were selected by convenience sampling method from available subjects. For determining socioeconomic level, Ghodratnama socioeco­nomic status (SES) questionnaire was used. Infa­nts and Toddlers Meaningful Auditory Integ­ration Scale (IT-MAIS) was selected for the auditory beha­viors study. Results: Socioeconomic and educational level of the family showed no significant effects on audi­tory behaviors. The age of receiving auditory ass­istive device had weak but statistically signifi­cant effect on the outcome. Conclusion: It seems that socioeconomic status and educational level of the family did not con­tribute to the auditory behaviors of children with cochlear implant. Objectives: Evidence regarding the possible influence of social factors on psychological resilience among maintenance hemodialysis patients is scarce. The aim of this study was to explore the relationship among socioeconomic status, family resilience, and social support, and psychological resilience among Chinese maintenance hemodialysis patients.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the hemodialysis centers of three comprehensive hospitals in China from September to December 2020 using convenience sampling. Two hundred fifty-eight patients receiving maintenance hemodialysis were investigated using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Chinese version of the Medical Outcomes Study-Social Support Survey (MOS-SSS), Chinese Family Resilience Assessment Scale (C-FRAS), and Chinese version of the Conner and Davidson resilience scale (CD-RISC).Results: Maintenance hemodialysis patients reported a low level of physical resilience, with a score of (58.92 ± 15.27). Hierarchical linear regression analysis showed that education level (β = 0.127, p = 0.018), maintenance of a positive outlook by the family (β = 0.269, p = 0.001), positive social interaction support from the family (β = 0.233, p = 0.002), and tangible support (β = −0.135, p = 0.037) were significantly associated with psychological resilience.Conclusion: SES, family resilience and social support may be potential predictive factors of psychological resilience. Interventions to improve the family resilience and social support may be beneficial to promote the psychological resilience of Chinese maintenance hemodialysis patients.
