Around 40.9 million Indonesians live in landslide prone areas. In the Ponorogo regency of the East Java province, there are 9 sub-districts that have been designated as landslide prone areas with the mild to severe category. One of the villages has experienced landslides in 2017, Banaran village of Pulung district, which 28 villagers became victim and 23 houses buried. Children are virtually one of the most vulnerable groups to being affected by disasters. The vulnerability of children to disasters is triggered by a limited risk understanding which results in a lack of preparedness in facing disasters. Achieving school preparedness is very important considering that Indonesia is a country with a high risk of disasters. It is very important to raise awareness of disasters as early as possible to minimize the impact of disaster risks. The preparedness of the school component is still below expectations, the regulations formed by providing education and simulations to students about disaster response and the impact of disasters are able to reduce disaster risk considering that children are one of the vulnerable groups. We counseled students of SDN Bekiring in Ponorogo to instill their understanding about landslide disaster mitigation. Sekitar 40,9 juta penduduk Indonesia tinggal di daerah rawan longsor. Di Kabupaten Ponorogo Provinsi Jawa Timur, terdapat 9 kecamatan yang telah ditetapkan sebagai daerah rawan longsor dengan kategori ringan sampai berat. Salah satu desa yang pernah mengalami longsor pada tahun 2017 adalah Desa Banaran Kecamatan Pulung yang mengakibatkan 28 warga menjadi korban dan 23 rumah tertimbun. Anak-anak sebenarnya merupakan salah satu kelompok yang paling rentan terkena bencana. Kerentanan anak terhadap bencana dipicu oleh pemahaman risiko yang terbatas yang berakibat pada kurangnya kesiapsiagaan dalam menghadapi bencana. Mewujudkan kesiapsiagaan sekolah menjadi sangat penting mengingat Indonesia merupakan negara dengan risiko bencana yang tinggi. Sangat penting untuk meningkatkan kesadaran bencana sedini mungkin untuk meminimalkan dampak risiko bencana. Kesiapsiagaan komponen sekolah masih dibawah ekspektasi, regulasi yang dibentuk dengan memberikan edukasi dan simulasi kepada siswa tentang tanggap bencana dan dampak bencana mampu mengurangi risiko bencana mengingat anak merupakan salah satu kelompok rentan. Kami mendampingi siswa SDN Bekiring di Ponorogo untuk menanamkan pemahaman tentang mitigasi bencana longsor.

Abstract: Disasters threaten the safety of vulnerable groups such the eldery, children and women. Based on the case of natural disasters that occurred in Indonesia, the need for a pragmatic strategy in forming the Indonesian people are aware of the dangers of natural disasters. One strategic step that taken is through the education sector. This research aims to create a disaster mitigation curriculum that has been formulated to produce disaster responsive learners. This research uses R&D (research and development method) by Borg and Gall (2003), in the stages of research and information, planning and initial product development. While for curriculum development used the Tyler model with the infusion method and block method. Data collection techniques used namely interviews, observation, and documentation. The findings of this research are based curriculum products to the stages of disaster mitigation include, 1) the concept of disaster mitigation curriculum, 2) The concept of the learning process (Intrakurikuler), 3) The concept of training process (Extracurricular, and 4) The concept of the assessment process (Evaluation). These results indicate curriculum products are made to increase disaster response capabilities of students through intracurricular and extracurricular activities as well as minimizing the impact of the disaster victims and improve disaster response capabilities for students in Indonesia.   Keywords: Curriculum, Disaster Mitigation, Tyler's Model.

Abstract Background: Exceptional children, like other children, have the right to be educated in a safe environment. Disasters are considered as serious issues regarding safety and security of educational environments. Following disasters, vulnerable groups, especially children with handicaps and disabilities are more likely to be seriously injured. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate the safety and disaster risk assessment of exceptional schools in Tehran, Iran. Method: The cross-sectional study was conducted in exceptional schools in Tehran, 2018. First, 55 exceptional schools in all grades were selected based on census sampling method and evaluated by using a checklist designed by Tehran Disaster Mitigation and Management Organization (TDMMO) and Ministry of Education in 2015. The data were analyzed using Excel software and statistical descriptive tests. Result: Based on the results, school facilities are worn and have unsafe elevators (least safety: 7.69%), yards (least safety: 9.52%), laboratories (least safety: 16.67%), libraries (least safety: 24.24%), fire extinguishing systems (least safety: 28.99%), and storage rooms and kitchens (least safety: 33.33%) which require immediate considerations. In total, the safety of exceptional schools in this study was 70.13%, which suggests medium-risk level. Conclusion: The educational settings must be reconsidered, along with identifying the risk and safety at school. In addition, a standard should be established for evaluating safety, especially in exceptional schools.

ABSTRACTIndonesia is an area prone to landslides. The occurrence of this landslide disaster can cause a large impact such as damage and loss both material and non-material. The availability of complete and accurate information in controlling land use in landslide prone areas in the development of an area becomes very important in minimizing the loss of life and losses, both physical, social and economic. This information must be disseminated to the community as an early warning system in disaster mitigation efforts. Identification of the characteristics of landslide prone areas requires a risk mapping of landslide prone areas in efforts to mitigate disasters can be done using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The results in this study indicate the need to identify disaster risk in detail because basically, an area threatened by disaster does not necessarily mean that each community has the same level of disaster risk. Mapping can be done by clustering or by identifying each building in a vulnerable area based on the level of risk of landslides. Tersedianya informasi yang lengkap dan akurat dalam pengendalian pemanfaatan lahan di kawasan rawan bencana longsor dalam pengembangan suatu wilayah menjadi hal yang sangat penting dalam meminimalisir adanya korban jiwa dan kerugian-kerugian baik fisik, sosial maupun ekonomi. Informasi tersebut harus disebarkan kepada masyarakat sebagai sistem peringatan dini dalam upaya mitigasi bencana. Identifikasi karakteristik daerah rawan longsor diperlukan sebuah pemetaan risiko kawasan rawan longsor dalam upaya mitigasi bencana dapat dilakukan menggunakan Sistem Informasi Geografis (SIG). Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan perlunya identifikasi risiko bencana secara detail karena pada dasarnya, suatu kawasan yang terancam bencana belum tentu tiap masyarakatnya mempunyai tingkat risiko bencana yang sama. Pemetaan dapat dilakukan dengan pengklusteran maupun dengan identifikasi setiap bangunan dalam kawasan rawan berdasarkan tingkat risiko terhadap bencana tanah longsor.Kata Kunci: analisis risiko, tanah longsor, mitigasi bencana, GIS

The tsunami which devastated Japan in 2011 highlighted the consequences of natural disasters on an area considered to be "best prepared" for such an event. Learning from the direct environmental, social and economic impacts and temporally and spatially displaced indirect global impacts, is important. When seeking to identify and mitigate the impact of proposed developments the process is carried out from two distinct perspectives: "before" and "after" implementation with environmental impact assessment and environmental management the main "instruments" on either side. Drawing on examples from financial institutions and disaster response agencies, this paper explores the theory that coupling the two "instruments" can aid disaster risk reduction and management. It concludes that there is no simple answer and that further research is needed to inform practice.

Background: Disease outbreaks such as the COVID-19 pandemic give rise to high levels of psychological distress in people worldwide. Since this is the first pandemic of its kind, the best available evidence is needed on what psychological needs could be expected during and after the pandemic. Objectives: In this scoping review existing research on traumatogenic events is examined in order to identify the potential impact on mental health of the COVID pandemic. The research findings are organized using the the phases of disaster response model. Results: A total of 34 longitudinal studies, 2 studies with multiple waves of data collection and 92 cross-sectional studies met the inclusion criteria. The studies included in this scoping review could be classified as: 87 studies on COVID-19, 2 on SARS, 19 on wars, 19 on terrorist attacks and 1 on a nuclear accident. Results indicate that stress, anxiety, depressive symptoms, insomnia, denial, anger, grief and fear can be anticipated as common reactions. The longer a pandemic continues, the higher the psychological strain is expected to be. Conclusions: The phases of response to disaster model offers a valid frame to unravel the impact of the pandemic on mental health over time. Specific attention must be given to vulnerable groups, whereby specific risk factors include age, gender, pre-existing mental health problems, healthcare profession, migration background, isolation and low socio economic status. However, these may change over time, and a delayed manifestation of psychosocial problems needs to be considered too. Mental health governance is, therefore, warranted throughout and even up to 6 months after the pandemic.

Cilacap Regency is the region that has the highest Disaster Risk Index in the Central Java Province, this area has the risk of floods, water robes, landslides, droughts, tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. Data from the Indonesian Disaster Risk Index (IRBI) in 2016 shows the level of disaster risk in Cilacap Regency occupying the 17th position nationally and first from 35 regencies/cities in the Central Java Province with a score of 132 (high hazard class). Under these conditions, a Disaster Mitigation Policy is needed. Legally, the Mitigation Policy in Cilacap Regency has been regulated in Regional Regulation Number 1 of 2012 concerning Violation of disaster management, especially in article 43 which includes several activities, namely: (1) Spatial planning implementation (2) Arrangement of infrastructure development, governance buildings, (3) Organizing education, counseling, and training, both conventional and modern, so that regional governments are expected to be able to develop disaster information, disaster databases, and maps in order to minimize the impact of disasters. Therefore, in this study, trying to describe the analysis of the implementation of disaster mitigation policies in Cilacap Regency. The research method used is a qualitative research method by looking at phenomena in the implementation of disaster mitigation and the factors that support and inhibit them. The community plays a role according to the direction of the BPBD. The community continues to coordinate, communicate and cooperate in carrying out its role. The non-technical role is carried out through socialization, education, advocacy to the community in the flood disaster area. Abstract According to information of areas at high risk of drought provided by Central Java disaster risk assessment in 2016 - 2020, Klaten Regency is in the top ten at high risk of drought in Central Java. Drought is an annual disaster in this region, which usually occurs during the dry season. The impact of the drought has caused some areas to experience a lack of clean water. For the purpose of disaster mitigation in anticipating and minimizing drought disasters losses, it is necessary to analyze the level of drought with a decision-making system by comparing two methods, namely the AHP with TOPSIS. Both methods are decision-making methods that are composed of various criteria to obtain an alternative sequence of choices. Both the AHP and TOPSIS methods produces weight values and a positive ideal solution value, respectively. These are used as input data in the mapping of drought vulnerability analysis with Geographical Information Systems (GIS). The results of the analysis are visualized with a map that shows the level of drought vulnerability. AHP and TOPSIS method decision making generates the order of the drought classes in predicting the distribution of areas experiencing drought. To validate the model, the authors compare the results of the analysis of drought vulnerability of the two methods with drought data from BPBD (Local Agency for Disaster Prevention) and DPUPR (Public Works and Public Housing Department). The results show that AHP provides better results than TOPSIS based on results validation with BPBD and DPUPR data. By comparing the two models with BPBD data, the results show that the percentage of AHP suitability is higher than TOPSIS at 47,619% and 19,048% respectively.

Palu City is the city that suffered the most damage and many casualties, effect from event Palu-Donggala earthquake on September 28, 2018. This earthquake triggered a tsunami, liquifaction and landslides which caused difficulties in determining a closest safe location for the temporary evacuation site in location affected disaster. The aftershocks that occurred after the main earthquake caused unrest for refugees and village government officials, because it was feared that the location to be used as a temporary evacuation site would run into the impact of an earthquake similar to other severe locations. To determine a safe location around the impact area destructive earthquake, information about the map of the minimum isoseismal distribution is very important. This study aims to map Minimum Isoseismal Distribution as the place that has the smallest disaster risk in areas affected by the earthquake, tsunami, liquefaction and landslides. The research methodology that be done are plotting and interpolate data from macroseismic surveys then were verified using satellite citra data and photo documentation of survey. The results showed that a minimum isoseismal distribution was found in 8 areas, located in the village: Kabonena, Lere, Kamonji, Siranindi, between Boyaoge and Nunu, Tawanjuka, Palupi and Tinggede.

Since 1950, the need for global economy related to natural disasters has increased 14 fold. The natural disaster that occured in 2018, put Indonesia into the country with the highest number of victims in the world, which was caused by three rare phenomena. This study discusses about the Desa Tangguh Bencana program as a strategic step for community-based disaster risk reduction in the Pandeglang Regency, which is one of the areas that has the impact of damage and casualties from the tsunami phenomenon in the Sunda Strait. This study aims to obtain information about the activity steps and communication strategies of the program which refers to the concept of disaster mitigation according to George D. Haddow and Kim S. Haddow in 2014. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with an interpretive paradigm. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews and other supporting documents, which were analyzed using the Miles & Huberman method and tested for credibility by triangulation of sources. The results showed that community participation in this program is the main key as a planning initiator to the implementing activities. These disaster risk reduction efforts are carried out by identifying community risks, determining action plans, funding, involving opinion leaders as parties raised by the community, forming messages, to the communication channel mechanism.

Karang Tengah Village is one of the villages that are vulnerable to landslides that located on the topography of the ridge to the hills in the eastern region of Bantul Regency. Based on the map of landslides incident from the Regional Disaster Management Agency in 2011, Karang Tengah Village has steep slopes, so it has a high potential for landslides. One way to mitigate landslide disaster is to assess and analyze the risk of landslide disaster in detail. This study aims to identify the homes of residents who are in the landslide threat zone, be it a high or medium threat zone. The method used in this research is descriptive method with qualitative approach combined with a quantitative method used to give a clear picture of the number of houses in each zonation. Sources of data used are primary and secondary data sources through interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that 1) the number of households in the high-risk zone is 63 houses, in the yellow risk zone is 59 houses. 2) The village of Karang Tengah has a high threat, medium to high vulnerability, and medium capacity, which means having a medium to high risk. 3) Recommended infrastructure.
