New time challenges cause new contradictions that are peculiar for educational environment in Russia and they require instant solutions. We have identified the contradictions which defined our target to determine the techniques and methods of distance education for students of pedagogical specializations based on practice-oriented approach, implementation of media educational technologies into the preparation of university students aimed at the development of knowledge, competencies and skills in distance learning in different types of educational institutions. Media educational technologies are conditioned by general pedagogical and didactic principles and the choice of pedagogical methods directly depends on the content of educational discipline, conditions of its implementation and other factors. Media educational technologies used for the completion of social-pedagogical disciplines for university students consist of creative and game tasks. Using them it is essential to consider special features of various media and the target of the lesson. Practice is another relevant purpose in the process of distance learning. We believe that this problem will be dominating in the nearest future as practice in distance learning is focused on by higher education institutions. In this article some techniques and types of this practical training are presented being shaped by the format of distance learning. During various practices the students of pedagogical specializations will be able not only to prepare for their future work but also to assist subject teachers, social pedagogues in schools and to make considerable contributions in this work.

AbstractNowadays, medical simulators and computer simulation programs are used to train various skills required in medicine. The development of medicine, including orthopedics and rehabilitation, has meant that resident physicians, within a much shorter period of time, must acquire the knowledge and skills that their older colleagues gained over years, learning as they operated on patients. For this reason, simulation very often helps the doctor and others engaged in health care train some techniques necessary during the work before they start working in a clinical environment. They have a chance of fine-tuning certain skills under nonclinical environment. On the other hand, simulation techniques are used in medical scientific research to know and explain the different biological processes that can be used for better patient treatment in the future. In this paper (Part I), the authors focused on the presentation of different types of simulators for the following purposes: test (conducted under laboratory conditions), training (incorporated into school, universities syllabus), diagnostic and therapeutic (within the hospital, clinics, private medical practice).

The article focuses on the ecosystem of the family as the basic socializing environment of the child. However, this is not another definitional approach, but rather a synthesis of knowledge necessary to determine the background constituting the fundamental issues of family environment. This study is centered around the consequences of growing up in the families involved in crises and its consequences for the further functioning in adulthood. Today, more and more attention is paid not only to adults with an adult child of an alcoholic syndrome (DDA), but also more broadly – on an adult child of a dysfunctional family (DDD), thereby making it clear that children who grew up in the wrong, dysfunctional environment, design disturbed behaviour on their own life partner, family and social surroundings.

A national survey of teachers of deaf and hard-of-hearing students was conducted to determine the incidence and characteristics of dysfunctional family background among deaf and hard-of-hearing students with mild additional disabilities. The results of the survey indicated that there is a higher incidence of dysfunctional family environment among deaf and hard-of-hearing students with mild additional disabilities than among deaf and hard-of-hearing students in general. The results of the survey suggest several challenges with regard to teacher preparation and service delivery for deaf and hard-of-hearing students with mild additional disabilities who come from dysfunctional families.

Evaluating the success of instruments which aim at reducing local government debt is a highly relevant issue in the light of existing debt problems at the local level in Germany and insufficient research into them. However, adequate empirical analysis is to some extent confronted with the challenge of a small number of observations and ambiguous cause–effect relations. This quantitative study takes the causal effects of austerity commissioners, financial aid programmes and debt brakes on local government debt into account by using different types of synthetic control methods. Its findings do not confirm that these instruments have a consistently positive effect, but that the success of the instruments seems to be highly context-specific.

Teachers encounter many ambiguous situations in their every-day practice. They have to deal with pupils with various disabilities, personality and background diversity. The aim of this study is to examine pre-service teachers' ambiguity tolerance and perceived knowledge and skills for work with various types of diversity in the classroom. Pre-service teachers (N = 176) self-assessed their knowledge and teaching skills for 20 different types of children with special educational and social needs. The Multiple Stimulus Types Ambiguity Tolerance Scale-II was used to assess their ambiguity tolerance. Pre-service teachers' ambiguity tolerance appeared to be moderate. There was no significant difference across years of study and only weak or slight relationship between ambiguity tolerance and self-reported inclusive competences.

AbstractObjective:The aim of this study was to clarify, using a nationwide survey, what is perceived as necessary knowledge and skills for psychologists involved in cancer palliative care in Japan, the expectations of medical staff members, and the degree to which these expectations are met.Method:We conducted a questionnaire survey of psychologists involved in cancer palliative care. A total of 419 psychologists from 403 facilities were asked to fill out the questionnaire and return it anonymously. Some 401 psychologists (89 males, 310 females, and 2 unspecified; mean age, 37.2  ±  9.5 years) responded about necessary knowledge and skills for psychologists working in cancer palliative care, the necessity for training, expectations at their current workplace, and the degree to which expectations are met. Results:More than 90% of participants responded that many kinds of knowledge and skills related to the field of cancer palliative care are necessary. Over 80% of participants indicated a necessity for training related to these knowledge and skills. Although more than 50% (range, 50.1–85.8%) of participants responded that such services as “cooperation with medical staff within a hospital,” “handling patients for whom psychological support would be beneficial,” and “assessment of patients' mental state” were expected at their workplace, fewer than 60% (31.4–56.9%) responded that they actually performed these roles.Significance of Results:Our results show that many psychologists in cancer palliative care feel unable to respond to the expectations at their current workplace and that they require more adequate knowledge and skills related to cancer palliative care to work effectively. No other nationwide surveys have generated this type of information in Japan, so we believe that the results of our study are uniquely important.
