Case material is presented from two patients suffering from addictive sexual behavior. The term addiction is used because of the intense, driven quality of the behavior and because of its mood-elevating effects. Psychodynamically, the patients’ sexual acts helped to undo feelings of rejection at the hands of their mothers and to enhance feelings of lovability and of self-esteem. The behavior also helped to neutralize powerful feelings of rage toward the mother. In one patient, the acts also helped to ease inner turmoil related to an underlying attention deficit disorder. I speculate that some adults with addictive sexual behavior may have underlying attention deficit disorders. In both my patients, the sexual behaviors served the self-regulatory function of alleviating inner feelings of anhedonia and depression. When they decreased their sexual activities during the course of the treatment, they required adjunctive antidepressant medication. The underlying meaning of the medication and countertransference attitudes toward such patients are explored.

Premarital sex is a growing social issue in Indonesia. The number of adolescents who conduct premarital sex has increased over the years. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of premarital sex behavior among adolescents in Indonesia. The study used secondary data from the 2017 Indonesian Demographic Health Survey (IDHS) with a total of 22,583 adolescent participants. The chi-square and multiple logistic regression were performed to assess the association of premarital sex behavior with socio-demographic status, tobacco, alcohol, and drug use. The results revealed that premarital sex was associated with sex, age, education level, smoking status, alcohol consumption, and drug use. Adolescents who had drunk alcohol were almost twenty times more likely (AOR = 19,888; 95% CI = 16,124-24,531) to have premarital sexual intercourse compared to adolescents who had not. The results found that premarital sex was strongly correlated with addictive substance use. Therefore, the government should formulate integrated health intervention programs to prevent risky health behaviors among adolescents. These can include integrating education on the dangers of smoking, alcohol consumption, and drugs into the Generation Planning or Generasi Berencana (GENRE) program, or Pusat Informasi dan Konseling Remaja (PIK R) or Youth Information and Counseling Center, which focuses on reproductive health in one package.

Based on the 2017 IDHS survey, most adolescent women (80%) and men (84%) reported dating. The 15-17 years is the age group when adolescents start dating. Teenage dating activities lead to sexual behavior, such as holding hands, hugging, kissing lips, touching sensitive parts, and having sex. This study aims to determine the influence of the background characteristics of adolescents (age, area of residence, level of education) and social patterns (having friends having premarital sex, having the urge because of friends, influencing friends to have premarital sex, considering virginity important) on the incidence of premarital sex in Central Kalimantan 2017. Secondary data were obtained from the 2017 IDHS survey. Data analysis was performed by univariate, bivariate (Spearman rho test), and multivariate (logistic regression test). The results showed that 88% of respondents had sexual behavior orientation, and 12% did not. The correlation analysis explains a significant relationship between premarital sexual behavior and the area of residence. Respondents who live in cities are 3.47 times more likely to commit premarital sexual behavior (α<0,05 = 0,021; OR = 3.47). In addition, there is sufficient evidence to suggest a relationship between premarital sexual behavior and education level, respondents who attend high school and above are 2.71 times more likely to have premarital sexual behavior (α<0,10 = 0,066; OR = 2.71). Meanwhile, other variables from background characteristics and social patterns have no significant relationship/do not influence premarital sexual behavior. So it can be concluded that the background characteristics in the area of residence (Sig Wald <0.0) have a significant partial effect on adolescents' incidence of premarital sexual behavior in Central Kalimantan.
