The emphasis is on dynamic processes and actualization of specific models and means of word formation in the modern Ukrainian language. The concept of neosemantization is described, which reflects a wide range of methods for updating nominative units, as well as hyponyms: internal (introspective) word formation, secondary nomination, semantic derivation, lexico-semantic way of word formation. The reasons for the quantitative and qualitative modification in the terminological system of the publishing and printing sphere are outlined: the development of the editorial specialty, the tendency of increasing the volume of Ukrainian-language scientific, popular science, educational, periodical professional literature, the growth of the number of Ukrainian translations of foreign-language professional literature. It is proved that the characteristic feature of term creation at the present stage of the development of the printing and publishing sphere is intensive scientific work in the field of national lexicography, the search for optimal models of terminology, taking into account the peculiarities of the Ukrainian resource of terminological systems. For this purpose, the types of semantic derivation are analyzed on the examples of lexemes represented in the terminological dictionaries of the public-polygraphic sphere and scientific and educational works that represent the particular branch of scientific knowledge (aparat, blok, liniika, korydor, khvist, spusk, holovka, vhaniaty, vyhaniannia etc.). Various methods of verbalization of concepts about processes and phenomena of this branch, optimal ways of termination taking into account features of the Ukrainian language resource of terminological systems on the basis of the theory of G. Paul about varieties of semantic changes are considered: 1) narrowing; 2) amplification and 3) the transfer of the value of the already existing word to another object of the nomination, metaphorization of its available values. A comparative analysis of semantic changes was made based on academic general dictionaries (Dictionary of the Ukrainian language in 11 volumes (1970-1980) and Dictionary of the Ukrainian language in 11 volumes. Additional volume in two books (2017) and the edition “Norms of the Ukrainian Scientific and Technical Language. Interpretative Dictionary of Terms in the Publishing, Printing and Packaging Sector” edited by P. Talanchuk etc. (2006). The active development of the modern Ukrainian publishing and printing terminology system is demonstrated, as evidenced by the emergence of new terms-the generic notions of this sphere of Ukrainian society, as well as the creation of new terms-hyponyms to clarify already known concepts. It is shown that the verbalization of such new concepts is carried out based on both specific and borrowed resources of the nomination. In this area, we observe a system of external, inter-systemic and intra-system polysemy, different types of semantic derivation, the consequences of which are the termination or secondary termination of the studied words, intra-language migration of terms. The multidisciplinary nature of the printing industry is generalized and the necessity of determining the semantic content of the defined terms and their standardization within the limits of the studied terminology system is generalized.

The paper analyzes the features of the disclosure of the Hutsul Republic, having existed as a Ukrainian state in 1918-19 on the territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now Transcarpathia), in the publicist works of Vasyl Grendzha-Donsky and Mykhailo Gafia Traysta. The attention of both publicists to this topic is not accidental. It was especially relevant for Vasyl Grendzha-Donsky, a contemporary of the period under study, to glorify the heroism of the Ukrainian people in the struggle for their rights in connection with the awakening of the national consciousness of Ukrainians in Transcarpathia and the struggle for the formation of Carpathian Ukraine in the 20-30s of the twentieth century. The publications of the modern author Mykhailo Hafia Traysta, dedicated to the events of the Hutsul Republic at this difficult time, activate the theme of selfless struggle of Ukrainians, the patriotism, the restoration of historical memory in the conditions of information and military aggression by the Russian Federation. For both authors, as representatives of different historical epochs, the events came from accordingly available sources. For V. Grendzha-Donsky, it is communication with the direct participants of the events, recording of legends, testimonies, impressions, memories, use of official materials, information, messages, etc. For M. Traysta – popular science works, publications of authoritative modern scientists, etc. The texts under analysis are full of specific historical facts of 1918-1919 period, highlight the figures of famous leaders of national liberation struggles. The publications of both authors with their pathos and emotional charge convey the public mood of that significant epoch. The specificity of the facts, the logic of presentation, the style of writing mobilize the reader's attention, arouse both general and scientific interest of a wide range of readers to important events of their own history. This provides the prospect of further study of the topic in Ukrainian journalism. The article clarifies the main contextual and semantic accents, factual arsenal, ideological charge and stylistic devices in the publications of both authors. The works are characterized by the public acuity and journalistic pathos of the topic.

The study of the Ukrainian terminology of management shows that one of the sources of its formation is morphological word-formation. Formation of terms occurs mainly on the same word-building models and with the help of the very word-formation affixes, which also create the words of the general literary language, but there are some specific features inherent only in the terminological word-formation. The suffixal method is noted for high productivity, in particular, the foreign language suffix – аці/j/- and the Ukrainian -нн-. Word formulation refers to the productive methods of term creation. Great performance in the terms of management, which are formed by word-building, has a noun manager. High activity in the processes of nomination of concepts, processes, phenomena, etc., of management, reveals the basic formulation. The most productive are complicated adjective phrases, which are structurally morphologically divided into four species. Abbreviation is an active terminology in the analyzed terminology. The peculiarity of the studied terminology system is the use in the professional literature of abbreviations-anglicisms, recorded mostly in Latin graphics, rarely – in Ukrainian.

Abstract The COVID-19 epidemic caused not only an unprecedented crisis in our lives but also changes in our language use and word formation habits: this new disease and its cures have naturally led to the emergence of new concepts and names. In 2020, more and more words or phrases related to the COVID-19 epidemic appeared in the public sphere as a result of COVID-related publications issued by the World Health Organization, regulations issued by the authorities of the countries, news in the press, and endless debates in the social media. This study examines the lexicalization processes and semantic shifts generated by the COVID epidemic, as we aim to examine professional and colloquial developments in pandemic-inspired terminology. We analyse the changes that have taken place in the Hungarian and Romanian language environment, while also taking into account the English language elements as a background reference. Among the most notable lexico-semantic phenomena, we have identified word coinages, changes of meaning, and varied word formation techniques which have fostered the processes of lexicalization and neologism creation, revealing an impressive linguistic dynamic at the level of public discourse.

AbstractPneumatically activated systems enable myriad types of highly functional inflatables employing a wide range of architectural approaches affecting their form and function, making systematic conceptual design difficult. A new architectural class of pneumatically activated systems, constrained layer inflatable systems, consists of hierarchically architected flat layers of thin airtight bladders that are internally and/or externally constrained to generate a variety of functionalities. The highly hierarchical architectural structure of constrained layer inflatable systems coincides with the hierarchy of produced functions, providing an opportunity for the development of a functional architectural decomposition, capturing the inherent relationship between architectural and functional hierarchies. The basis of the approach is conveyed through the design of an example constrained layer inflatable system. This approach empowers the systematic understanding of the interrelated architectural and functional breakdown of constrained layer inflatable systems, enabling designers to iteratively analyze, synthesize, and re-synthesize the components of the system improving existing designs and exploring new concepts.

AbstractPublic opinion can affect the adoption of genome editing technologies. In food production, genome editing can be applied to a wide range of applications, in different species and with different purposes. This study analyzed how the public responds to five different applications of genome editing, varying the species involved and the proposed purpose of the modification. Three of the applications described the introduction of disease resistance within different species (human, plant, animal), and two targeted product quality and quantity in cattle. Online surveys in Canada, the US, Austria, Germany and Italy were carried out with a total sample size of 3698 participants. Using a between-subject design, participants were confronted with one of the five applications and asked to decide whether they considered it right or wrong. Perceived risks, benefits, and the perception of the technology as tampering with nature were surveyed and were complemented with socio-demographics and a measure of the participants’ moral foundations. In all countries, participants evaluated the application of disease resistance in humans as most right to do, followed by disease resistance in plants, and then in animals, and considered changes in product quality and quantity in cattle as least right to do. However, US and Italian participants were generally more positive toward all scenarios, and German and Austrian participants more negative. Cluster analyses identified four groups of participants: ‘strong supporters’ who saw only benefits and little risks, ‘slight supporters’ who perceived risks and valued benefits, ‘neutrals’ who showed no pronounced opinion, and ‘opponents’ who perceived higher risks and lower benefits. This research contributes to understanding public response to applications of genome editing, revealing differences that can help guide decisions related to adoption of these technologies.

The public health implications of the Covid-19 pandemic have caused unprecedented and unexpected challenges for veterinary schools worldwide. They are grappling with a wide range of issues to ensure that students can be trained and assessed appropriately, despite the international, national, and local restrictions placed on them. Moving the delivery of knowledge content largely online will have had a positive and/or negative impact on veterinary student learning gain which is yet to be clarified. Workplace learning is particularly problematic in the current climate, which is concerning for graduates who need to develop, and then demonstrate, practical core competences. Means to optimise the learning outcomes in a hybrid model of curriculum delivery are suggested. Specific approaches could include the use of video, group discussion, simulation and role play, peer to peer and interprofessional education.
