US television network ABC developed their "Thank God It's Thursday" (TGIT) programming block in 2014 as a prime-time schedule composed of three back-to-back dramas produced by well-known TV showrunner Shonda Rhimes. From its initial development, ABC intended TGIT to be a three-hour live viewing event, encouraged by a multipronged #TGIT Twitter campaign. I consider the industrial and cultural significance of marketing the TGIT block of programming together as a cohesive block of social TV in order to encourage and structure audience participation in live television viewing. #TGIT's form of social television developed as a result of the rise of multicultural market research. The reemergence of serialized melodrama on network television functions culturally to commodify Black femininity in order to appeal to a transracial upscale female audience.

Background and Aim: The purpose of this article is to examine the barriers and challenges for female spectators in Iranian stadiums and to provide facilitating strategies. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study with an overview of the prevailing conditions of society as well as reviewing Iranian law and referring to sports legal and legal texts. The researcher examines the fatwas of Shia authorities and the historical background of Iranian sports from 1970 to 2019, and the presence of women in stadiums in the past, and examines the conditions for collecting relevant material in this field. Results: Women were free to attend Iranian stadiums in the pre-revolutionary years, and Iranian women could freely watch national and club games, but in the post-revolutionary years, in line with the Islamic Republic's policies on the separation of women and men and the views of authorities. Shi'a imitation and religious rulings and religious issues were limited. As part of the country's overall policies on women, sport was also affected by these policies, and it seems that removing these barriers should be seen in a broader theoretical framework. Conclusion: By examining the current state of the country and examining Iranian law and referring to Iranian history from 1970 to 2019, the researcher has concluded that we do not have a law prohibiting women from entering the stadium, which is a public place. They are there to watch the matches and cheer on their favorite teamn

Georgy Vasilievich Baev had a great influence on the socio-political and economic development of the Terek region in the early 20th century, therefore, thorough study of his creative heritage seems to be very relevant. From My Life , the first autobiographical essay Baev published, contains new information about his activities as the mayor of Vladikavkaz, as well as about Baevs fate after he emigrated (his cultural and educational activities in Constantinople, moving to Prague, etc.). From the essay, it becomes obvious that Baev participated actively at all stages of work on the OssetianRussian-German dictionary. Moreover, the dictionary project had long been archived and the decision to publish it was made on the initiative of Baev, who had already been exiled by that time. His translation of the Bible into Ossetian is well known, but only from the essay do we learn how much effort and labor it actually took. In 1926 Baev launched a course of lectures on the Ossetian language within the framework of the Berlin seminar on oriental languages, commonly known as the Ossetian Docenture. Baev calls its foundation an event of great cultural significance, which contributed to the awakening of interest in the Ossetian language among European scholars. Baev complites the essay with an expression of gratitude to his elder relatives, referring to his activities in Germany as the pinnacle of the great cultural work that his grandfather, father and uncle had engaged in before him. The list of relatives on the paternal and maternal lines provides data that are not available in other sources. The auto-biographical essay of Georgy Baev contains a lot of interesting information, and its publication can contribute to the further study of the life and work of this outstanding representative of the Ossetian intellectuals.

As a combination of television viewing and social media use, social TV epitomizes the intersection of mass communication and interpersonal communication. However, it remains unknown how such a novel format of media experience influences the agenda-setting effects. A lab experiment ( N = 120) examined (a) how user-to-user interactions in social TV (i.e. real-time comments from virtual co-viewers) affect the agenda-setting process and (b) how such effect is moderated by different interface types (e.g. all-in-one screen vs a second screen). Results suggest that participants who watched a news clip that featured many (vs few) comments from virtual co-viewers perceived the issue to be more important, but such effect was at work only when user comments were viewed on the second screen. In addition, exposure to many (vs few) comments decreased participants’ satisfaction with social TV and their intention to use social TV in the future.

In a time series analysis of prime time network television viewing data a weekly trigonometric regression model is used to predict the total network viewing for specific times on specific days of the year. These predictions are very accurate. Four network share models, each based on different assumptions about how the activity of television viewing interacts with nonviewing activities and the strength of program loyalties, are used to allocate the total network prediction to specific program predictions. The predictions of the network share model are compared with the highly accurate published predictions of an expert who explained his predictions on the basis of demographic and program content considerations. The predictions of the network share models, which do not utilize demographic or program content information, compare reasonably well with the expert judgment predictions. The authors suggest how demographic, program content, and competitive bridging information would be incorporated within the framework provided by the time series models to produce advanced network scheduling models.

Until recently, television viewing was perceived as a passive experience that aimed in satisfying a person’s or a group’s need for entertainment, information and, in some cases, education. However, the development of Interactive Digital Television (iDTV) and the significant change of society’s expectations due to the appearance of the World Wide Web brought new dynamics on the medium. To that end, nowadays, iDTV adopts a more social role (Social TV) in order to satisfy the individuals’ request for active participation, communication and (virtual) community formulation. This chapter aims at describing the characteristics of Social TV, while providing information about its systems and business applications. Similarly, the present study attempts to explain if and how Social TV can become a new setting for virtual communities and what are the potential implications for its viewers.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation ( (2002–2015) CBS, Alliance Atlantis Communications, CBS Paramount Network Television, Jerry Bruckheimer Television.) marks a paradigm shift in the post-9/11 forensic visual culture, ostensibly presenting physical evidence as a system of surveillance and control; the team of criminalists as ideologically complicit with state power; and high-tech forensic gadgetry as infallible and conducive to the culprit. In the melodramatic narrative strands, sophisticated plotlines, and spectacular performances of forensic science, CSI heavily rests on a novel and meticulously elaborated aesthetics that redefines the conception of gaze and camera shot in the weaving of episodes across the different seasons. A more nuanced comprehension of CSI’s visual forensic discourse is, therefore, necessitated to fully understand the cultural significance of these offerings. To this end, extending the work of Kress and Van Leuween on the systems of gaze and social distance in light of the Foucauldian and post-panoptic views on power and control, the article introduces fine-grained taxonomies of the forensic gaze and camera shot as fundamental aesthetics closely tied to post-9/11 extensive surveillance discourse. Resituating CSI in the broader context of the post-panopticon, the study argues that the drama series operates in a hybrid surveillance mode that surpasses conventional readings of panopticism, straddling the line between the physical and the digital in the contemporary age.

The subject of this research is the criteria for the effectiveness of social reportage. The goal of this work consists in development of an algorithm for assessing social journalism materials. The article examines the concepts of “effectiveness” and “social TV reportage”, as well as the key criteria for assessing social live broadcast on regional television. Quality assessment criteria for live TV broadcast include the following: topic selection, choice of interlocutors and locations; staginess (content of questions, their wording, composition of reportage), work on camera (freedom of behavior of the reporter; language and style of presentation: speech technique, speech culture, sense of screen time). The criteria for the effectiveness of social live television broadcast include solution of the discussed problem ; a promise given by the parties responsible for its solution; a promise to think the problem over; full or partial admission of the problem by the competent persons; rejection of the fact that the problem exists. An attempt to develop the algorithm for assessing social live television broadcasts and its testing would allow improving forms of presentation of the materials and increasing the interest of mass media target audience, which defines the scientific novelty and relevance of this work. The research consists of several stages: the first stage is an attempt to develop the algorithm for assessing effectiveness of social live television broadcasting; the second stage marks their classification by the type social problems; the last stage implies analysis of the quality of social reportage. Conclusions are formulated on the algorithm for analysis of social live television broadcasts.
