This chapter analyzes two types of women entrepreneurship in rural México. The first type seeks to determine the successes and failures undertaken by women at a rural business financed by a state program and the second type seeks to reflect the importance of social capital in the establishment and growth of cooperatives in Mexico, specifically the cooperative Las Chiquihuitecas, producer of cochineal insect (Dactylopius coccus Costa). The research method used in both cases was totally qualitative applying the documentary analysis and the interview in depth as an instrument for the collection of the information. It is obtained that social capital has been the key element in the formation and development of women businesses. The study concludes that the practical knowledge of the entrepreneurs and the lack of social capital in these cases are not sufficient to direct the businesses to success, and that the lack of structured knowledge and adequate scientific support for this project strongly directed towards the non-permanence on the market.

This study aims to examine the local wisdom of the community as social capital in the management of natural disasters to obtain a full picture of the substantive meaning of the community, local wisdom and management of natural disasters. The research method used is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The formation of a community is inseparable from the individual's need to be in a sense of security and to have a defense mechanism when facing a dangerous situation. The community develops a knowledge to understand how nature works, and then follows it, and seeks to avoid what can threaten safety. Local wisdom should be interpreted as community knowledge about local conditions, or local wisdom, namely knowledge that answers the local situation, which is not available elsewhere. A management of natural disasters needs to clarify the position of the community, and provide space for the community to use all the main capital they have, namely themselves (the community) and their wisdom.

Teachers' Opinions on Occupational Prestige and Social CapitalPhysical Education teachers have a special role in the community but sometimes their fellow citizens may not be conscious of it. This paper is based on research which was conducted in order to study P.E. teachers' opinions about the relationship between social capital and their employment in the different sectors. Another objective of this article is to find out how P.E. teachers perceive themselves in relation to other occupations and whether they are satisfied with their position in the Cypriot labour market. The methods applied for this research were documentary analysis and survey method, but it is essential to remark that this paper is based on a larger investigation. Two sub-samples were created in order to compare their opinions towards the three objectives of this study. Results indicate that according to P.E. teachers; medical doctors have the highest prestige in Cyprus. They also believe that social capital has a great influence on their employment at the Cypriot Sport Organization but it is important to note that the majority of them are satisfied with their position in the labour market. This paper provides some evidence about the opinions and feelings of Cypriot P.E. teachers.

Action research (AR) as a research method has been recommended in the process of educating foreign language (FL) teachers as well as developing their teaching skills for decades. Many teacher education experts, including Elliott (1991) are of the opinion that the method contributes to teachers’ professional develpoment as they can extend their theoretical knowledge of the processes of learning and teaching through gaining the practical knowledge. Moreover, action research evokes the need for reflection upon one’s teaching activities. One may wonder whether FL teacher-practitoners apply AR in their teaching and how, if at all, it influences their classroom teaching. In order to learn about it, the author of the article conducted a questionnaire which provides interesting information about FL teachers’ attitude towards AR. The article aims at promoting AR as well as encouraging FL teachers and teacher-trainees to use the method in their work.
