Nanocomposite Ni-Al2O3 thin film containing nanosized Al2O3 particles had been grown on steel substrate by ultrasonic-electrodeposited technology. The optimum technological parameters of nanocomposite Ni-Al2O3 thin films were obtained by experiments and analysis. X-ray diffraction analysis was utilized to detect the crystalline and amorphous characteristics of Ni-Al2O3 thin films. The surface morphology and metallurgical structure were analysed by high resolution transmission electron microscope, and scanning electron microscope. The test results showed that nanocomposite Ni-Al2O3 thin films prepared by proper ultrasonic-electrodeposited method consist of nanometer-sized Al2O3 particles and nickel grains. And the Al2O3 nanoparticles and Ni grains diameters in thin films are about 40nm and 80nm, respectively.

AbstractHighly (100) textured pseudo-cubic Pb(ScTa)1−xTixO3 (x=0-0.3) (PSTT) thin films were grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on LaNiO3 (LNO) electrode buffered Si substrates at 650 °C. The microstructure and chemical uniformity were studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and nanoprobe X-ray energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The temperature dependence of dielectric properties and P-E behavior were measured. A shift of Curie temperature of these PST-based thin films due to Ti addition was demonstrated, Furthermore, the pyroelectric properties of these thin films were estimated.

Si/C multilayer thin films were prepared by magnetron sputtering and post-annealing in N2 atmosphere at 1100 for 1h. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman scattering and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) were applied to study the microstructures of the thin films. For the case of Si/C modulation ratio smaller than 1,interlayer diffusion is evident, which promotes the formation of α-SiC during thermal annealing. If the modulation ratio is larger than 1, the Si sublayers are partially crystallized, and the thicker the Si sublayers are, the crystallinity increases. To be excited, brick-shaped nc-Si is directly observed by HRTEM. The brick-shaped nc-Si appears to be more regular near the Si (100) substrate but with twin defects. The results are instructive in the application of solar cells.

This study investigated the applicability of magnetite Fe3O4 nanoparticles coated with chitosan (CMNs) for the removal of some toxic heavy metals from simulated wastewater. Magnetic nanomaterials were synthesized using the co-precipitation method and characterized by transmission electron microscope, scanning electron microscope, X-ray diffraction, and Fourier transformer infrared spectroscopy. The magnetic properties of the prepared magnetic nanoparticles were determined by a vibrating-sample magnetometer. Batch experiments were carried out to determine the adsorption kinetics of Cr(VI) and Cd(II) by magnetic nanoparticles. It is noteworthy that CMNs show a highly efficient adsorption capacity for low concentration Cr(VI) and Cd(II) ions solution, which can reach 98% within 10 min.

AbstractNano nitrocellulose/cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine (NC/HMX) composite particles were precipitated from their co-solutions by the spray drying method. The nano composite samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope and X-ray diffraction. Impact sensitivity and thermal decomposition properties of nano composites were also measured and analyzed. Results show that the product particles are close to spherical in shape and range from 0.5 μm to 5 μm in size. In the product particles, β-HMX particles with size ranging from 50 nm to 100 nm are uniformly and discretely dispersed in NC binders. The drop height of nano NC/HMX composite particles (66.1 cm) is more than triple as high as that of raw HMX (21.6 cm), exhibiting considerably low impact sensitivity. Moreover, nano composite particles are easier to decompose and decomposed more rapidly than do raw HMX under the thermal stimulus due to the lower peak temperature and activation energy and higher reaction rate. Therefore, nano composites are expected to be candidates filled in high burning rate propellants.

Ba(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3 thin films were prepared by a sol-gel process involving the reaction of barium isopropoxide, tantalum ethoxide, and magnesium acetate in 2-methoxyethanol and subsequently hydrolysis, spin-coating, and heat treatment. Transmission electron microscopy, x-ray diffraction, and Raman spectroscopy were used for the characterization of the thin films. It was shown that the thin films tend to crystallize with small grains sized below 100 nm. Crystalline phase with cubic (disordered) perovskite structure was formed in the samples annealed at a very low temperature (below 500 °C), and well-crystallized thin films were obtained at 700 °C. Although disordered perovskite is dominant in the thin films annealed below 1000 °C, a low volume fraction of 1 : 2 ordering domains was found in the samples and grows with an increase of annealing temperature.

The present work reported the preparation of TiC/Fe-based composite by the synthesis reaction from Ti, C and Fe. The sintered composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope. TiC, Fe3C and α-Fe were detected by X-ray diffraction analysis. The scanning and transmission electron micrographs revealed the morphology and distribution of the reinforcements, the microstructure of Fe matrix, the interfacial structure of TiC particle-to-Fe matrix. Moreover, the formation reason of the voids in composite was also discussed.

The lamellar nanostructured yttrium films on α-Al2O3 substrates were successfully synthesized by electroless deposition using the lyotropic liquid crystalline templating strategy. The reaction of hydrazine hydrate and Y3+ dissolved within the aqueous domains of the lyotropic liquid crystalline phase produced the nanostructured yttrium films. The low-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) indicated that the as-resulted films possessed lamellar regular array of nanochannels with periodicity of 6 nm. With well-defined nanochannels and higher surface areas, the nanostructured films may find applications in the field of electronic materials.

Single phase TiO2 thin films of anatase structure have been prepared by reactive electron beam evaporation. Epitaxial (012)- and (001)-oriented anatase films were successfully obtained on (110)- and (100)-oriented SrTiO3 substrates, respectively. X-ray diffraction and cross section transmission electron microscopy investigations revealed a good epitaxial quality of the anatase films grown on the SrTiO3 substrates.

Nanometer Ni-AlN composite layers were prepared by electrodeposited technology. The optimum technological parameters of nanometer Ni-AlN composite layers were obtained by experiments and analysis. We observed surface morphology and metallurgical structure of composite layers with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and high respective transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The test results showed that the nanometer Ni-AlN composite layers prepared by proper ultrasonic-electrodeposited technology have better wear resistance and corrosion resistance. And the composite layers consist of AlN particles and nickel grains both nanometer-sized.

This work deals with Al-Cu thin films, deposited onto glass substrates by RF (13.56MHz) magnetron sputtering, and annealed at 773K. The film thickness was approximately the same 3-4µm. They are characterized with respect to microstructure, grain size, microstrain, dislocation density and resistivity versus copper content. Al (Cu) deposits containing 1.8, 7.21, 86.17 and 92.5at%Cu have been investigated. The use of X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy lead to the characterization of different structural features of films deposited at room temperature (< 400K) and after annealing (773K). The resistivity of the films was measured using the four-point probe method. The microstrain profile obtained from XRD thanks to the Williamson-Hall method shows an increase with increasing copper content.
