Jasminum Subtriplinerve Blume (Oleaceae) is herbal plants widely a tea for weight loss, stimulates milk glands. Extract product it easy used yet had little research. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of extracting conditions such as water/material ratio, extraction temperature and extracting time on extracting yield, polyphenol content and antioxidant activity of J.subtriplinerve extract. The total phenolic compounds were determined according to the Folin–Ciocalteu method. Extraction yield (0.22g/100 g) was obtained at water/material ratio 15:1 (ml/g), 40°C and 4 hours extraction time. Under these optimized conditions, the polyphenol content of was 2640.4 μg/1g extract. And the extract can harvest 46.11 % of DPPH (30 μg/ mL) at 10 000 μg/ml concentration

This research aimed to optimize the total polyphenol content (TPC) extracted from soybean sprout powder under different experimental parameters, including ethanol concentration (60–100% v/v), extraction temperature (40–80 °C), extraction time (15–150 min), material:solvent ratio (1:4–1:10 g/mL), the number extraction cycles (1, 2 and 3 times), the age of sprout (0–7 days), and the used part of the sprout (cotyledon, hypocotyl, or radicle). The obtained results were used in response surface methodology, in combination with a central composite design, to model the total polyphenol content (TPC) with respect to three variables, including ethanol concentration, extraction temperature, and material:solvent ratio. The experimental conditions for optimal recovery of TPC consisted of ethanol concentration of 88% (v/v), extraction temperature of 59 °C, material:solvent ratio of 1:6.5 g/mL, extraction time of 60 min, and 2 cycles of maceration. In addition, for maximal TPC, the sprout should undergo the germination of 5 days and the radicle fraction should be used. Based on the suggested optimum conditions, the obtained and verified TPC was 19.801 mg genistein (GE)/g dry weight (d.w.). The obtained dried extract also exhibited low antioxidant activity.

Abstract Mimusops elengi L. fruit or known as Bakul fruit is believed to have a lot of benefit due to its flavonoid group compound that can have antioxidant effects. This study aimed to determine the effect of temperature and ratio between material and solvent in the extraction process on the antioxidant activity and content of phenolic compounds in Mimusops elengi L. fruit extract. This research used factorial completely randomized design with 2 factors : extraction temperature (45¼C, 60¼C, and 75¼C) and ratio of the material and solvent (1:4, 1:6, and 1:8) with 3 replications. The extraction yield, total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity of Mimusops elengi L. fruit extract were examined. Furthermore, the application of extraction temperature in 75¼C with ratio 1:8 material to solvent (w/v) has the highest extraction yield, total phenolic contents and antioxidant activity compared to others treatments.

A sterilized mixed herbal drink formula and process was developed for the mixed herbal extracts from Imperata cylindrical (L.) P. Beauv [IC], Murdannia loriformia (Hassk.) Rolla Rao et Kammathy [ML], Hedyotis corymbosa Lamk. [HC] and Orthosiphon aristatus Miq [OA]. Increasing extraction temperature and time decreased the antioxidant activity and increased the total potassium and phenolic compound contents of the herb infusions. Using response surface methodology (RSM), the appropriate extraction condition was 74.6°C for 41 minutes. The most acceptable formula contains a % weight ratio (w/w) of 14:35:27:17of IC: ML: HC: OA infusions to 7% (w/w) sucrose. Decreasing the sterilization temperature and increasing the F0-value reduced the antioxidant activity and total phenolic compounds. The appropriate sterilization temperature and F0 were 135°C and 3 minutes.

The herbal plant known as Tinospora crispa is reported to have many beneficial effects on health and has great potential in future to be developed as a health product either in the form of traditional medicine, food supplements or in pharmaceutical preparations. However, so far knowledge on processing procedures to produce quality standardized extracts of this plant to be used in product development has still not widely reported. Therefore, the objective of this study was to determine the optimal extraction conditions for producing a standardized T. crispa aqueos extract (STCAE) with high extraction yield and high syringin content. Experiments were conducted to determine the effects of various extraction conditions involving temperature (25–100 ° C), extraction time (0.5–6 hours) and liquid (water) to solid ratio (5: 1–25: 1 ml of solvent per g stem dry). Using optimized conditions obtained, the extract was standardized based on syringin and was further investigated on its antioxidant activity through DPPH, FRAP and TBA bioassays. Results revealed that the optimum extraction conditions were found to be 1 h extraction time and 15:1 ml g−1 liquid-to-solid ratio. For the extraction temperature, 60°C was found to be the best. STCAE was produced on the basis of the extract to contain with at least 0.4 wt% of syringin. STCAE was found to possess high antioxidant activities through DPPH, FRAP and TBA bioassays.

The objective of this study was to investigate the efficiency of phenolic extraction and antioxidant activity from sesame cake using water extraction method and to evaluate the possibility of employing microwave irradiation to improve the extraction yield. The result showed that extraction temperature had major influence on total phenolic content and antioxidant activities of the extracts, whereas extraction time was found to be insignificant. The optimum extraction condition recommended were 90oC for 30 min in this research. Furthermore, microwave pre-treatment at 120 s could have significantly positive influence on the overall extraction yield, especially the total phenolics and antioxidants based on FRAP assay. Therefore, the obtained results suggest that sesame aqueous extracts could be a source of antioxidants with more feasible applications in food as well as other industries.

The optimal process conditions when examining the antioxidant potential, total polyphenol content, and attribute liking in roasted rice germ flavored herbal tea were investigated using response surface methodology (RSM). The influence upon the extraction process of time and temperature was assessed using a full factorial design on three levels with two variables (32), involving five central point replicates. Extraction temperature (70 °C, 80 °C, and 90 °C) and extraction time (3 min, 4.5 min, and 6 min) served as independent variables, while the dependent variables were allocated to the regression equation to determine antioxidant activity (R2 = 0.941) along with total polyphenol content (R2 = 0.849), flavor liking score (R2 = 0.758), and overall liking score (R2 = 0.816). Following experimentation, it was determined that the optimal time and temperature conditions to maximize total polyphenol content, antioxidant activity, flavor, and overall liking score were in a range of 86 °C to 90 °C for 3.4 min to 5.9 min. When these conditions were imposed, the antioxidant potential, total polyphenol content, flavor, and overall liking score were >70% for DPPH scavenging activity, >75 mgGAE/g, >6.7 (like moderately), and >6.5 (like moderately), respectively.

This study expands the usage of Citrus madurensis ( Citrofortunella microcarpa), which is a good source of skin whitening and antioxidants activation in cosmetics. The goal of this study is to provide cosmeceutical activity data about the extraction yield and total polyphenol of calamondin orange by optimizing the focused high ultrasound (INEFU), ultrasound extraction (UE), and water extraction (WE) conditions. Under optimal extraction conditions, which consisted of 1800 W for 45 minutes (INEFU) and 500 W for 45 minutes (UE), 21.55% (w/w) and 13.27% (w/w) of the highest extractions yield and total polyphenol content was obtained. For the skin whitening activity, tyrosinase inhibitory activity was observed at 69.28% in the INEFU extracts, which was 69.24% higher than that of the UE extracts (58.82%). To reduce melanin production in Clone M-3 cells, 86.9% melanin production was observed following the addition of control, WE relative to the control without a sample, and 81.2% and 78.9% were found in the UE and INEFU conditions, respectively. The highest total phenol secretion was conclusively obtained under the optimal conditions and resulted in a significant improvement of the cosmetic activities of C. madurensis ( C. microcarpa)-based cosmeceutical ingredient.

Four strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium including L. plantarum 01, L. fermentum D13, L. rhamnosus B01725, and B. bifidum B7.5 exhibiting naringinase production were applied in grapefruit juice fermentation. All investigated strains grew well in grapefruit juice without nutrition supplementation. In all cases, cell counts were 108–109 CFU ml−1 after 24 hours of fermentation. The highest lactic acid and acetic acid productions were observed in the case of strain L. plantarum 01. The L. plantarum 01 and L. fermentum D13 strains prefer glucose over fructose and sucrose, whereas fructose was the most favoured sugar for L. rhamnosus B01725 and B. bifidum B7.5. At the end of the fermentation process, antioxidant activity and total polyphenol content of grapefruit juice decreased in all cases, but the changes were not significant. Significant decrease of naringin was observed in the case of L. plantarum 01, 28% naringin in grapefruit juice was removed after fermentation. This result is promising for development of technology for production of probiotic grapefruit juice.

Seaweed is consumed as nutritive food materials in many Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and China. In the present study, we analyzed proximate composition of two Korean seaweeds Sargassum horneri and Ecklonia cava. Crude protein content of S. horneri and E. cava were 8.57% and 9.11%, whereas 1.03% and 1.40% of total lipid was found from S. horneri and E. cava. We used supercritical carbon dioxide (SC-CO2) with ethanol, methanol, acetone and hexane for the extraction process. The highest extraction yield was obtained from E. cava by SC-CO2 with ethanol and the value was 1.52 g/100 g DW. Further, fatty acid composition of S. horneri and E. cava by SC-CO2 with ethanol were analyzed. The total unsaturated fatty acid of S. horneri and E. cava samples were 59.95% and 17.79%, respectively. Important PUFA such as EPA and DHA were present in both samples. Total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and antioxidant activity were found in both seaweed extracts with the highest concentration obtained from E. cava extracted by SC-CO2 with ethanol.

The extraction of phenolic compounds from olive leaves was optimized using three glycerol-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) with lysine, proline, and arginine. A three-level Box–Behnken design was used to examine the influence of the liquid/solid ratio, concentration of DESs, and extraction temperature on the yield of the extraction process. A second-order polynomial model was used for predicting the polyphenol extraction yield. The optimal predicted conditions were used for extractions and they provided the highest total phenol yields with the glycerol–lysine exhibiting the best performance. Quantification of tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol, oleuropein, luteolin-7-O-glucoside, and rutin in the extracts showed high content in tyrosol in all DESs, particularly with glycerol–lysine and relatively similar contents with other studies for the other phenolic compounds. Finally, a linear relationship between tyrosol content and the total phenolic content of the extracts was observed.
