IMPROVED FEEDING VALUE OF SASKATCHEWAN-GROWN BARLEY FOR BROILER CHICKENS WITH DIETARY ENZYME SUPPLEMENTATION

Nine barley samples representative of cultivars grown throughout Saskatchewan were fed with dietary β-glucanase supplementation (Aspergillus niger) as mixed feed to broiler chickens. Experiment 1 compared barley diets with or without enzyme addition for broilers from 0 to 21 d, while exp. 2 involved comparison of broiler performance to market weight (0–42 d) when fed enzyme-supplemented barley diets or a wheat/corn-based diet. In exp. 1, chicks fed barley diets with the enzyme additive gained more weight and converted feed more efficiently than those given diets without the enzyme (P < 0.01). Variability among barley diets, as indicated by chick growth and feed efficiency, was reduced by the addition of the enzyme. In exp. 2, broilers consuming barley with dietary enzyme were lighter than their wheat/corn-fed counterparts at 21 and 42 d (P < 0.05). Body weight gain from 21 to 42 d was not significantly affected by dietary treatment. Feed-to-gain ratio was higher for barley-fed broilers (P < 0.05) in comparison to birds fed the wheat/corn diet, reflecting the lower nutrient density of the barley diets. The objective of the study was to evaluate feeding effect of microparticle protein derived from soybean meal and fish meal combined with Lactobacillus sp. at 1.2 mL on physiological condition of digestive tract and productivity of broiler. Total of 192 broiler, with initial body weight was 481.0 ± 67.2 g, given dietary treatment starting on day 21 until day 42. The experiment was assigned in a completely randomized design with 8 treatments and 4 replications. Dietary treatment were 21% intact protein (T0), 18% intact protein (T1), 21% microparticle protein (T2), 18% microparticle protein (T3), T0+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T4), T1+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T5), T2+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T6), T3+Lactobacillus sp.1.2 mL (T7). Parameters measured were total ileal lactic acid bacteria (LAB), Coliform and pH, rate of passage, daily body weight gain (DWG) and also carcass weight. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and followed by Duncan multiple range test (P<0.05). Experimental results showed that microparticle protein diet added with Lactobacillus sp. (P<0.05) increased total LAB and DWG, but decreased Coliform population, and slowed down the rate of passage. However, carcass weight was not significantly affected by treatments. Feeding microparticle protein (18%) with addition of Lactobacillus sp. (1.2 mL) can improve to be better condition of digestive tract based on higher LAB and lower Coliform populations, and increase daily body weight gain with the same carcass weight.

One hundred ninety-two male broiler chicks were dosed with monensin at concentrations of 0, 121, or 242 mg/kg feed throughout the normal growing period (50 days). Body weight gain and feed efficiency were determined weekly, and cardiac muscle was examined grossly and histologically at the end of the experiment. Livers also were weighed and examined grossly. Feed intake was determined daily, allowing continuous monitoring of drug intake. No depressing effects of the drug on growth rate and efficiency were observed until after four weeks, and then were evident only in the chicks receiving the 242 mg/kg diet. Subepicardial hemorrhage and congestion occurred in 40% of the hearts from the chickens fed the high monensin dose and were nonexistent in the other treatments. There appeared to be an inverse relationship between monensin dose and liver weight. The paralytic effects previously reported from acute dosing experiments were not observed. The results show that the heart and probably the liver are sensitive indicators of monensin toxicity and that the subchronic toxic dose is less than 18 mg/kg body weight per day.

The aim of this study was to determine the calcium requirements of broiler chickens in starter phase with the addition of phytase enzyme. This experiment used 1,200 broiler chickens (mixed sex) for 21 days rearing period in a closed house. The basal diets was corn and soybean meal which contained 0.097% Ca and 0.123% P-av. The treatments consisted of 6 diets treatment: P1 (basal diet with the addition of 0.42% non-phytate phosphorus (NPP), and then P2 to P6 were basal diet with the addition of 0.22% NPP and 1,000 FTU/kg phytase and the addition of calcium (Ca) at different levels: 0.82% (P2); 0.74% (P3); 0.66% (P4); 0.58% (P5) and 0.50% (P6). The growth performance, feed efficiency, and bone mineralization parameters were studied using Oneway ANOVA in a Completely Randomized Design. Duncan's new Multiple Ranges Test was used to separate means with significant differences. Results showed that 0.90% Ca supplementation without phytase and the reduction levels of Ca from 0.82% to 0.50% increased the amount of feed consumed by birds in all growth phases (P<0.05). The addition of phytase had beneficial effects on increasing body weight (P<0.05) and average of body weight gain (P<0.05), and decreased the value of FCR in 11 - 21 days and 1 - 21 days. The addition of phytase increased protein and energy consumption, followed by increased in the value of PER and  EER (P<0.05). When phytase was added in the diets, reduction levels of Ca in the diets up to 0.50% did not give any adverse effect on the tibia bone ash. It can be concluded that feeding with phytase can sustain growth performance, feed efficiency, and bone mineralization.

This study aims to prove the sauerkraut liquids in the drinking water of broiler chickens to weight gain, final weight, feed consumption, feed efficiency and the amount of lactic acid bacteria intestine of broilers. A total of 24 chickens broiler DOC with an average weight of 25-35 gr/tail. Broiler chickens were randomly divided into 4 groups.. Each group was given liquids sauerkraut 0 ml/L, 0.5 ml/L, 1.0 ml/L, and 1.5 ml/L in drinking water for 35 days. The results showed the treatment liquids concentration sauerkraut 1,5 ml/L in drinking water have a significant effect (P <0,05) on body weight gain, final weight, feed intake, feed efficiency and the amount of lactic acid bacteria intestines of broiler chickens. Average of body weight gain of broilers given liquids sauerkraut 1.5 ml/L in drinking water significantly (P <0.05) higher than the weight gain of broilers concentration 0 ml/L. Average of final weight of broilers given liquids sauerkraut 1,5 ml/L in drinking water significantly (P <0.05) higher than the final weight of broilers concentration 0 ml/L. Average of consumption of broiler chicken feed given liquids sauerkraut 1,5 ml/L significantly (P <0.05) lower than the consumption of broiler chicken feed concentration of 0 ml/L. Average of FCR of broilers given liquids sauerkraut 1,5 ml/L significantly (P <0.05) lower than the FCR of broilers concentration of 0 ml/L. The average amount of lactic acid bacteria intestines of broilers given liquids sauerkraut 1.5 ml/L significantly (P <0.05) higher than the amount of lactic acid bacteria intestines of broilers concentration of 0 ml/L. On the research that use of liquids sauerkraut in drinking water 1,5 ml/L can improve feed efficiency and amount of lactic acid bacteria broiler chicken intestines of 23.5%, and 19.4%.   Keywords: Broiler chickens, sauerkraut, feed efficiency, the amount of lactic acid bacteria

Performance of broilers fed diets containing potassium diformate to replace flavomycinABSTRACT. The aim of this research was to study the effect of potassium-diformate (PD) on broiler performance. One hundred and twenty old chicks of Cobb strain were divided into fifteen groups and feed one of five treatments, namely: P1 (control diet), P2 (P1 + 0,5%PD), P3(P1 + 1%PD), P4 (P1 + 1,5%PD) and P5 (P1 + antibiotic). Data from Completely Randomized Design were analyzed by ANOVA and any significant among them were used contrast orthogonal test. Treatments did not impact on feed consumption, mortality and percentage of viscera, but the groups treated with 1 and 1.5% PD and flavomicyne antibiotic had significant improvement on body weight gain (P0.169) and feed efficiency (P0.05). It is concluded that addition of 1-1.5% potassium-diformate in the broiler’s diet could improve feed efficiency and replace flavomycine antibiotic as growth promotors without influencing the performance of viscera.

Day-old male chicks were used to test the effects of a combination of formic and propionic acids (CFP) added to wheat- and barley-based diets on the performance and gut histomorphology of broilers. The CFP, containing formic and propionic acids based on an inorganic phyllo-silicate carrier, was added to starter and grower broiler diets of standard (NRC, 1994) or lower nutrient density (LND) using different levels of wheat and barley. Body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion ratio (FCR) of broiler chicks were significantly (P < 0.001) improved by CFP supplementation at 21 days of age regardless of nutrient density (ND). However, at 35 days of age CFP addition significantly (P < 0.001) increased BWG and FCR. Proventriculus weight was also significantly affected by the dietary treatments. Ileal viscosity was significantly (P < 0.05) affected by ND which was associated with wheat and barley contents, whereas feed viscosity was significantly (P < 0.05) affected by CFP supplementation. Villus height was significantly (P < 0.05) increased by the CFP supplementation. In the case of villus width, an interaction effect was observed: there was a significant (P < 0.05) decrease in the group fed the standard ND diet, but only a numerical decrease in the group fed the LND diet compared to control group. No significant effect of dietary treatment on the thickness of the lamina muscularis mucosae could be detected.

Background: The use of early nutrient-restriction programs in broilers can prevent complications such as increased body fat deposition and its consequences. However, feed restriction not always gives the expected results. Objective: To assess the effect of two levels of feed restriction followed by a re-alimentation period with five increasing nutrient levels on growth performance and immune response of broiler chickens. Methods: A total of 330 animals were used. The treatments were: 25 (T25) and 35% (T35) quantitative feed restriction during the starting period, and 0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10, and 15% increased energy and protein contents during the growing and finishing periods. Results: For all the T25 treatments, except for T25-0, feed intake (FI) and body weight gain (BWG) were higher, and feed conversion rate (FCR) was lower (p<0.05) compared to the control treatment. In that group, the response of FI and BWG to the increased nutrient density was mostly quadratic (p<0.001), whereas that of FCR was linear (p<0.001). The FI and BWG results were less homogeneous in the T35 treatments, but FCR was lower compared to the control treatment (p<0.05) in all of them. The FCR showed no differences (p>0.05) between treatments during the finishing period. Conclusion: Feeding a nutrient-dense diet after a period of mild feed restriction gives the best results, while increasing nutrient density after a more severe feed restriction does not improve productive results compared to a standard diet. Carcass traits and immune function were not affected by restriction level or nutrient density.

<p><em>This study aims to determine the effect of restricted feeding </em><em>rate on</em><em> the broiler chickens performance. The research was carried out in Tompe, Jirapan Village, Masaran Sub District, Sragen Distric for six weeks beginning from September 14<sup>th</sup> until October 26<sup>th</sup>, 2011. This study used 100 male broiler chickens New Lohmann strain. The </em><em>research design</em><em> used Complet</em><em>ely</em><em> Randomized Design (CRD) </em><em>one way trafic </em><em>with four treatments. The fourth treatment</em><em>s</em><em> are</em><em>:</em><em> P0 (full  feeding without fasting), P1 (6 days full </em><em>feeding </em><em>and 1 day fasting), P2 (5 days full feeding and 1 day fasting) and P3 (4 days full feed</em><em>ing </em><em>and 1 day fasting). Each treatment </em><em>consisted of</em><em> five replicates. Feed consisted of BR1 and BR2. </em><em>The Parameters o</em><em>bservedare Body Weights</em><em> Gain</em><em>, Feed Consumption, Feed Conversion,and Income Over Feed Cost. The results showed that the average of four treatment are P0, P1, P2 and P3 respectively for body weight gain </em><em>are</em><em> 81</em><em>.</em><em>37; 74</em><em>.</em><em>47; 72</em><em>.</em><em>65, and 72</em><em>.</em><em>50 grams / head / day, feed intake </em><em>are </em><em>137</em><em>.</em><em>94; 126</em><em>.</em><em>46; 124</em><em>.</em><em>06</em><em>;</em><em> and 119</em><em>.</em><em>11 g / head / day, feed conversion </em><em>are</em><em> 1.70</em><em>;</em><em> 1.70</em><em>;</em><em> 1.71, and 1.64, feed efficiency </em><em>are</em><em> 0.59; 0, 59; 0.59, and 0,61. The average of Income Over Feed Cost </em><em>are </em><em>Rp. 8.757,26; Rp. 8.014,98;Rp. 7.818,14</em><em>; </em><em>and Rp. 7.808,57. The analysis of variance</em><em> results</em><em> for body weight </em><em>gain and whole consumption</em><em> has significant effect (P&lt;0.01), conversionwas not </em><em>affected</em><em>. From these results it can be concluded that the rate of feeding restri</em><em>cteds is</em><em> significantly affect</em><em> on</em><em> body weight </em><em>gain and feed consumption</em><em> of Broiler </em><em>Males</em><em>. </em></p>
