Introduction: The exploration of pharmacological effect on Ayurvedic drugs are only possible through ani-mal experimentation. For the global acceptance of the Kasis Godanti Bhasma (KGB) - A herbo-mineral for-mulation of Ayurveda pharmaceutics, there is needs to revalidate the formulation on all aspects from its safety, efficacy, quality control and animal experimentation. Aims and Objectives: 1. To evaluate the effi-cacy of Kasis Godanti Bhasma 1st and 2nd in Pandu (Anemia). 2. To compare the effectiveness of Kasis Go-danti Bhasma 1st and Kasis Godanti Bhasma 2nd in Pandu (Anemia). Material and Methods: Anemia was induced by intra -peritoneal injection of Phenylhydrazine (PHZ) at 40 mg/kg for 2 days. Rats were divided in six groups of four rats each. The first group is the control group received distillated water. The second group is anemic control group received only Phenylhydrazine at 40 mg/kg for 2 days. Third and fourth groups received KGB 1st 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg respectively. While fifth and sixth groups received KGB 2nd 500 mg/kg and 1000 mg/kg respectively. The vehicle and the Bhasmas were administered from day 2 to day 15 after Phenylhydrazine administration. Blood samples were collected from the orbital vein on day 0 before Phenylhydrazine administration, and on day 2, 7, 15 after Phenylhydrazine injection. Re-sult and Conclusion: Experimental study of KGB-1 and KGB-2 shows satisfactory result. On comparing result of KGB-1 and KGB-2. KGB-2 with both doses of 500 mg and 1000 mg shows significant result in anti-anemic effect. While in KGB-1, only 500 mg dose shows the significant result in anti-anemic effect. On comparing dose of both the samples 500 mg dose of KGB-1 and KGB-2 shows satisfactory result.

Background The diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia is variable. Early diagnosis is important for reducing the mortality and morbidity rates. Aim This experimental study aims to investigate the diagnostic utility of D-dimer and neopterin as a marker for the early stage of acute mesenteric ischemia caused by occlusion of superior mesenteric artery. Methods The levels of D-dimer and neopterin were measured using an animal acute mesenteric ischemia model in 21 male rabbits. Superior mesenteric artery occlusion (Group 1, n = 14) and control (Group 2, n = 7) groups were identified. Blood samples at different times are collected from each rabbits. Blood samples from superior mesenteric artery occlusion group were taken 30 min after anesthesia but before laparotomy, 1, 2, and 3 h after superior mesenteric artery ligation. Blood samples from control group were taken 1 h before, 1 and 3 h after anesthesia and laparotomy. The D-dimer and neopterin levels of each blood sample were measured. Results The probability of acute mesenteric ischemia was found to be 36 times higher when the D-dimer level was over 0.125 ng/L, whereas the probability was 19.2 times higher when the neopterin level was over 1.25 nmol/L. Conclusions In this experimental study, the combined elevation of two significant markers, D-dimer and neopterin, may be helpful for the early diagnosis of acute mesenteric ischemia.

Abstract: Acute diarrhea causes loss of large amounts of water and electrolytes especially sodium and potassium, which if not replaced can cause dehydration. In 2006, WHO recommended ORS with osmolarity 245 mmol/l as the administration of acute diarrhea with mild to moderate dehydration. The research objective is to determine the effect of WHO ORS to plasma sodium and potassium levels in children with acute diarrheal dehydration.Pre-experimental study with pre-post test approach absence of a control group, was conducted from  November, 2012 until January, 2013 at Pediatric section RSUP.Prof.DR.RD.Kandou Manado. Sample 20 patients acute diarrhea mild to moderate dehydration. Pasien blood samples were taken to measure sodium and potassium plasma level before and after treatment with WHO ORS 75 cc/kg for three hours. Results electrolyte levels when dehydration 60% isonatremia and 85% isokalemia Electrolyte level when rehydration  70% isonatremia and 70% isokalemia. Sodium mean levels  when dehydration  136.1±5.2 mmol/l and when rehydration 136.1±3.45 mmol/l with p=0.5. Potassium mean levels when dehydration 3.99±0.78 mmol/l and when rehydration 3.84±0.85 mmol/l with p=0.183. Conclusions: Most electrolyte levels before and after rehydration isonatremia and isokalemia. There is no significant differences in plasma sodium and potassium levels before and after rehydration with WHO ORS. AbstractBackground Ascaris lumbricoides eggs had very thick walls consisted of three layers, they were albuminoid layer, hyaline layer and vitelin layer. These layers were impermeable causing the Ascaris lumbricoides eggs resistant to less supportive environmental factors. Formalin 10% was a preservative that was often used to preserve faeces containing parasites such as protozoa and worm eggs. However, without heating, formalin 10% was not effective to preserve the Ascaris lumbricoides eggs because they would keep developing to become infective (containing larvae). Objective This study aims to prove whether there is an effect of adding 10% formalin which is heated at 60 C, 70 C and 80 C to the development of Ascaris lumbricoides eggs. Methods The design of this research was an experimental study with The Randomized Posttest Control Group Design. Result The Ascaris lumbricoides eggs were still growing into infective eggs in faeces although they were heated by formalin 10% at 60C, 70C and 80C. conclusion Based on the results of the study, there was no effect of heating temperature of formalin 10% on the development of Ascaris lumbricoides egg. Keywords: Formalin 10%, Ascaris lumbricoides, Heating, Soil Transmitted Helminth

Spending colostrum in post-cesarean section mothers is difficult in the first week postpartum. Efforts to overcome colostrum disruption can use non-pharmacological methods, namely breast care and endorphin massage. This study aims to determine the expenditure of colostrum by giving breast care and endorphin massage to post-cesarean mothers. This research is a quasi-experimental study with a nonequivalent design posttest control group design. This research was carried out in the midwifery room of the second floor of Grand Medistra Lubuk Pakam Hospital during the June-July 2019 period. There were 48 participants selected using purposive sampling, with 18 assigned in breast care, endorphin massage and combination of breast care and endorphin massage. The time of spending colostrum expenditure is assessed every day while the amount of colostrum expenditure is assessed after intervening. Analysis of the data used is one-way Annova. The results showed that the combination of breast care and endorphin massage was the most effective action in the time of spending colostrum and the amount of colostrum with a value of p = 0,000. The combination of breast care and endorphin massage could be applied as an alternative therapy post-cesarean mothers

In recent years, serious games offer great opportunities for learning processes at schools. However, it is unclear whether this type of proposals can offer differentiated answers among the students according to their gender. In this context, the aim of this paper is to know the possible differences that occur in primary school classrooms according to gender, with serious games designed for the development of mathematical fluency, and to examine to what extent these games contribute to the overall school performance. We carried out a quasi-experimental study, including pretest and posttest, without control group and with several experimental groups, and the participation of 284 students from first to fourth grade. The results show that the software benefits boys and girls equally, compared to the previously followed methodology that benefited boys. A clear relation between the results achieved and the performance in the overall students’ grades has also been observed. The conclusions show the potential of serious games in school settings, and the opportunity to approach performance differences based on the gender.

Since the occurrence of swine salmonellosis has increased over time and control strategies other than biosecurity are highly recommended, the present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of vaccination with Salmonella Choleraesuis and Salmonella Typhimurium bacterins in pigs. Two experimental groups were formed: G1, animals immunized with two doses of a commercial vaccine (n = 20); G2, control group (n = 20). After vaccination, all pigs were orally challenged (D0) with 108 CFU of Salmonella Typhimurium and evaluated for 40 days. Every 10 days after D0, five piglets from each experimental group were euthanized and submitted to the necroscopic examination, when organ samples were collected. Blood samples and rectal swabs were collected before the first dose of the vaccine (D−42), before the second dose (D−21), before the challenge (D0), and thereafter, every three days until D39. Blood count, serum IgG measurement by ELISA, and the excretion of Salmonella Typhimurium in feces were evaluated. While the results from blood count and serum IgG concentration did not differ, the detection and excretion of Salmonella between G1 and G2 differed (p < 0.05). Therefore, it was observed that this vaccine partially protected the animals against experimental infection with Salmonella Typhimurium, reducing the excretion of bacteria in feces.

Abstract Background Activation of the inflammatory response in heart failure (HF) may initially serve as a compensatory mechanism. However, on the longer term, this physiological phenomenon can become disadvantageous. Temporal patterns of inflammatory proteins other than CRP have not yet been investigated in patients with stable HF. Purpose We aimed to evaluate the association of 17 serially measured cytokines and cytokine receptors with clinical outcome in patients with stable heart failure. Methods In 263 patients, 1984 serial, tri-monthly blood samples were collected during a median follow-up of 2.2 (IQR: 1.4–2.5) years. The primary endpoint (PE) composed of cardiovascular mortality, HF-hospitalization, heart transplantation, and LVAD. We selected baseline blood samples in all patients, as well as the two samples closest to the primary endpoint, and the last sample available in event-free patients. Thus, in 567 samples we measured 17 cytokines and cytokine receptors using the Olink Proteomics Cardiovascular III multiplex assay. Associations between biomarkers and PE were investigated by joint modelling. Results Median age was 68 (IQR: 59–76) years, with 72% men, 74% NYHA class I-II and a median ejection fraction of 30% (23–38%). 70 patients reached a PE. After adjustment for clinical characteristics (age, sex, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, NYHA class at baseline, diuretics and systolic blood pressure), 7 biomarkers were associated with the PE (Figure). Interleukin-1 receptor type 1 (IL1RT1) showed the strongest association: HR 2.65 [95% CI: 1.78–4.21]) per standard deviation change in level (NPX) at any point in time during follow-up, followed by Tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNF-R1): 2.25 [1.66–3.08], and C-X-C motif chemokine 16 (CXCL16): 2.18 [1.59–3.04]. After adjustment for baseline N-terminal pro–B-type natriuretic peptide, high-sensitive troponin T and C-reactive protein however, only IL1RT1 and TNF-R1 remained significantly associated with the PE. Conclusion Repeatedly measured levels of several cytokines and cytokine receptors are independently associated with clinical outcome in stable HF patients. These results suggest that repeated measurements of these biomarkers, in addition to established cardiac biomarkers, may contribute to personalized risk assessment and herewith better identify high-risk patients.
