Haemorrhoids are dilated veins within the anal canal in the subepithelial region formed by radicles of superior, middle and inferior rectal veins. It is a common ano-rectal disease. Thrombosed hemorrhoid is a painful swelling in the anal tissues caused by a clot in one or more small veins in the anal canal. According to modern science, there are many operative and non-operative procedures for the management of haemorrhoids. Most of the operative pro- cedures are not patient friendly, cause high economic burden and associated with complications like pain, bleeding and recurrence. Acharya Vagbhata defines Arsas (haemorrhoids) as an abnormal growth which obstructs the anal canal and troubles continuously like an enemy. Shalyatantra deals with Sastra karma (surgical procedures), Anusas- tra karma (parasurgical procedures) and conservative management in the different types of diseases. Jaluka is con- sidered as best among Anusastra. Acharya Vagbhata indicates Jalukavacharana in haemorrhoids when they are hard and swollen. The present article deals with Jalukavacharana in two patients having thrombosed haemorrhoids attended in outpatient department of VPSV Ayurveda College Kottakkal. Application of Jaluka (leech) provided improvement in features like pain, edema, tenderness and discoloration of mass. Keywords: Thrombosed haemorrhoids, Arsha, Raktamokshana, Jalukavacharana.

Asphyxia is most commonly appearing as a major cause of unnatural deaths. Scattered references can be reviewed in ancient literature regarding asphyxial death. Description of various signs of asphyxial death is given briefly in ancient texts and it is worthwhile to study them with the help of modern science. In ancient literature these asphyxial deaths are described briefly as Kanthapeedan, Dhoomopahat and Udakahat. In modern literature asphyxial deaths are described as hanging, strangulation, suffocation and drowning which occur in homicidal or suicidal purpose or accidental. Viewing these references, asphyxial deaths are studied comprehensively with the object of highlighting it with the help of modern knowledge. Thus present article deals with exploration of ancient references of asphyxial death with the help of contemporary science.

Panchakarma is a fruitful measure and its extensive efficacies are classified in different dimensions to cure different types of complicated diseases. Vamana, Virechana, Niruha, Anuvasana and Nasya are the five procedures and subsequently even Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Rakta Mokshana are broadly termed as Panchakarma in day to day practices. The new diseases are evolving with intense gravity and therefore to combat those, Panchakarma is a very effective measure. In present era competition and advancement have led to hectic and stressful life, man has eventually forgotten the absolute enjoyment and solitary affection of nature and as a result is facing many health problems. Gridhrasi is no exception, it is correlated to sciatica in modern science where low back ache radiating to toes in the lateral aspect of the thigh associated with stiffness is the main complaint.

Hypothesizing after the results are known, or HARKing, occurs when researchers check their research results and then add or remove hypotheses on the basis of those results without acknowledging this process in their research report ( Kerr, 1998 ). In the present article, I discuss 3 forms of HARKing: (a) using current results to construct post hoc hypotheses that are then reported as if they were a priori hypotheses; (b) retrieving hypotheses from a post hoc literature search and reporting them as a priori hypotheses; and (c) failing to report a priori hypotheses that are unsupported by the current results. These 3 types of HARKing are often characterized as being bad for science and a potential cause of the current replication crisis. In the present article, I use insights from the philosophy of science to present a more nuanced view. Specifically, I identify the conditions under which each of these 3 types of HARKing is most and least likely to be bad for science. I conclude with a brief discussion about the ethics of each type of HARKing.

The object of study in the present article is birds, more precisely the sounds of birds as they are represented in Estonian nature writing. The evolutionary and structural parallels of bird song with human language are reviewed. Human interpretation of bird sounds raises the question, whether it is possible to transmit or “translate” signals between the Umwelts of different species. The intentions of the sender of the signal may remain unknown, but the signification process within human Umwelt can still be traced and analysed. By approaching the excerpts of nature writing using semiotic methodology, I attempt to demonstrate how bird sounds can function as different types of signs, as outlined by Thomas A. Sebeok. It is argued that the zoosemiotic treatment of nature writing opens up a number of interesting perspectives that would otherwise remain beyond the scope of traditional literary analysis.

Foreign body ingestion is a regular medical referral. Patients present with different objects such as chicken bones, nails, coins, and fishbones. It is usually managed in causality and passes without any intervention. However, occasionally, we come across fishbone complications requiring intervention. We discuss the course and management of two case reports of fishbone injuries in different abdominal regions.

Work related fall from height many a times causes fatal injuries and death amongst working in various construction sites. It leads to different types of fatal bodily injuries including spinal injuries causing economic burden to the family. Although, they have been provided with protective gears and proper training for its use; it has been observed that workers are not using these in a proper ways. They eventually met with accidents which can easily be prevented. Accidental compression of neck by safety harness following fall from height has rarely been described leading to death of the individual. A case was brought for autopsy following accidental compression of neck structure causing fracture of cervical spine and transaction of spinal cord. In this paper, the case has been described with its autopsy findings.

Background. Abnormally invasive placentation (AIP) is a clinical term that describes situation when placenta does not separate spontaneously after delivery and its manual removal causes excessive bleeding (1). Historically, the treatment of choice for this condition is hysterectomy. Lately, the new treatment option, conservative management of the AIP, has proven itself an effective alternative to hysterectomy in carefully selected patients (2). However, the use of conservative AIP management is limited in many countries, the reasoning being the lack of doctors’ experience in this procedure and concerns regarding a high postpartum infection rate. Case reports. We present the first two cases of conservative management of AIP in Latvia. Most of prenatally diagnosed AIP cases country-wide are referred to the Paul Stradinš University Hospital, which is a tertiary referral hospital. The annual rate of AIP in the hospital varies from five to ten cases. Two pregnant women were diagnosed with AIP prenatally, both of them refused hysterectomy and therefore went for the conservative management of AIP. During Caesarean section operation, placentas were left in situ after delivery of the baby. During the follow-up period of 12 and 14 weeks, both women developed infection complications, but complete placental tissue resolution was diagnosed in the end. Conclusion. These two cases demonstrate that conservative management of AIP can be safely applied in small countries/areas with small AIP rate and management experience.

Human Computer Interaction is an emerging technology which refers to a vast number of algorithms and different types of techniques to enhance the interaction process. Eye gaze technology is one of the most significant techniques of modern science and can be used in many areas like security, typing, information tracking etc. The need of the system for physically disable people motivated many researchers to develop systems which can be used only using the eye gaze and blinking. In this paper, we are going to represent the development of a virtual keyboard which work by detecting eye gaze and eye blinking. It involves building a system that capture video directly from PC camera and detects human face, eyes. To detect face accurately we will follow a simple rule as the eyes and lips are always in the sample place as image, which will make the eye detection process much easier. To do this we are going to use an approach that involves the 68 points of face which is specific and must exist in every face as- the eye area, top of the chin, eyebrow, nose, outside edge of face etc. It also detect eye gaze as left, right to select keyboard portion and eye blinking to select the desired key from the virtual keyboard on the board. The goal of this system is to type without using finger or hands. Such types of application are really important and blessings for those people who completely lost the control of their limbs. The methodology is described including flow-charts for each stage of the system and then implementation results has described.

As we know Shukra dhatu is a most essential end product of the rest of all 6 dhatus of sharira. So, an analytical comparative research study has been made on infertility(bandhatva) patients. In this study, we explain tenets of shukra dhatu and different types of shukra doshas according to Acharya Charaka and Sushruta. According to doshas 8 types of Shukra doshas explaind by acharya and 9 types of semen abnormality by modern science. An attempt has been made to correlate these shukra doshas with an abnormality of semen according to modern medical science, on the basis of clinical features, physical appearance, and laboratory examination of semen. For the study 20 patient suffering from any kind of infertility has been selected from O.P.D. of Shalya Tantra department of Arogyashala rugnalaya, Nashik. On observation, the result showed out of 20 patients , 10 patients suffering from vatapittaj, 6 from shukra kshaya, 2 from vataj and 2 from pittaj shukra dosha according to ayurvedic point of view. Simultaneously we correlate it with different clinical conditions of semen and we found Out of 20 patients, 8 suffering from Oligoasthenospermia, 6 from Oligospermia, 2 from Asthenozoospermia, 2 from Tetratazospermia, 2 from Infective semen.

The present article presents the art of memory of the sixteenth-century philosopherGiordano Bruno by taking into consideration the mythological figure of Proteus.Bruno’s comparison of the metaphysical Monad – aim of his philosophical quest – withProteus sheds a light on the mnemonic practice. Although Bruno is often presented as aherald of modern science, the description of the Monad as Protheus, always subject tonew metamorphoses, and the importance of Ovidius’ Metamorphoses show him ratheras a representative of the Pythagorean tradition. An echo of Ovidius is also indicated inBruno’s Cena de le ceneri showing that the Pythagorean influence is also present in hiscosmological view on the motion of the earth.
